This is the third time in the month that I have had my Optimus G, either turn off in my pocket or the power button wont cause any reaction to waking my phone. Im not sure if its frozen and restarts but I have to hold the power button like 10-15 seconds before it boots up again. Anyone else have this issue? I am using a swipe to unlock so maybe the powerbutton is turning it on in my pocket and swiping to turn off my phone? Im not sure. Anyone else have this problem or is there a solution?:crying:
yes. there are other posts on this same topic. i've yet to see a solution.

My phone has done this twice. Each time, it restarted after I plugged it in and then held the power button for 30 sec (and I mean a legit 30 sec).
When mine does it I plug it in ten second power then press again to start thing up. May have to repeat to get it to work. I think the system is on but the screen and buttons are dead. Really trippy
the best phone ever
I Have Had 3 O.G. and They All Did This
I have had 3 LG E970's since the date it came out. The first one suffered from this problem and the back capacitive button stopped working so i swapped it for another. This one had horrible battery life and the random shut off happened weekly. Now I have gotten my third O.G. and this has happened twice in the week that I have had it. I tried calling my phone when it has done this and the power button wouldnt wake the phone and it rang twice then went to voicemail. So when the phone is in this "unwakable sleep" it cant recieve calls or alarms wont go off. I dont know if the phone shuts off or falls into a coma. If this happens and I am late for work or anything because this phone shuts off I will return it to ATT and hopefully if I ***** at them enough maybe swap it for a Galaxy note 2 even though it has been over the 15 day return period.

This seems to be known amongst the Android community as the "Sleep of Death" (SoD)
Your phone is actually on. It's sleeping. It refuses to wake.
Other phones have had this issue as well, and people have discovered various causes:
WiFi bugs in the kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1707521)
Other bugs in the kernel/ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Nexus_One/TexasICS/Installing_Guide#Sleep_of_Death)
SD card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31327743&postcount=6)
Installed apps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33536381&postcount=1)
and resolutions:
Turn off WiFi completely or use another kernel
Use another kernel
Repartition SD card and reformat
Remove apps
Various "anti Sleep of Death" apps (which, to my eyes, just seem to prevent the phone from going into deep sleep).
No one has yet found the cause or solution to this issue happening with the LG.
I've tried tip #2 form the first link (Try setting WiFi Sleep Policy to off in Settings > Wireless and Networks > Wifi Settings > Menu button > Advanced) and this didn't work.
I do have Jonasl's famous Fast Dormancy Toggle app installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021248). I'm starting to wonder if LG knew this was a potential issue and set the fast dormancy in a way to ensure the phone doesn't go (or rarely goes) into deep sleep. So my next step is to set this back to normal and see what happens there. If this fails, maybe I'll try the original SD card (I have a SanDisk 64Gb Micro SDXC card in there at the moment). If not that, maybe disabling WiFi completely. Then relocking/unrooting, then... well I have no idea.
I have no idea really where to start, as I have no idea of a cause. Luckily (I guess?) for me this seems to happen roughly every 2 weeks. I got this phone on Dec 2nd. First SoD happened 17 days later on Dec 19. Second was 8 days later on Dec 27. Then, 12 days later on Jan 8 and again tonight, 16 days later. Given these long times between comas, this could take a loooooooooooooooooooong time to test and get to the bottom of.
I deleted the fast dormancy Toggle because my phone does the SOD 2-3 times a week. After it worked great for 2 days it did it again twice in one dY. AT&T said they would give me another upgrade and pay for another phone, but I don't want a Gnote2 cause of the size. The Only other quad core phone is the OneX+ but it has 1gb ram. Then I'm left with having to find a buyer for my "defective phone." this is a serious issue I have had 3 OGs and they all did this

I've had it happen to me a couple of times. This is very similar to what happened with my transformer, but very much less frequency. Basically when it goes on standby and locks the screen, and you move to a different location, it won't wake back up. You have to hold the button for 30 seconds to shut it down and power it back up. This isn't a major problem and will probably be fixed with future updates. I am worry about my other problems, GPS, sluggishness, and wifi signal is still really week. When it's good it's really fast, but when I'm in an area of my house (the toilet) weak ass signal!

cool thanks.
This is exactly what I came here looking for. Mine arrived this morning and worked fine all day and now it won't wake up... Since I've had it for less than 12 hours, I wasn't entirely happy, but at least I'm not the only one with the issue and I'm sure Asus will correct it... at least I hope so, lol
+1 on this issue.
while sleeping it shuts down. It can be turned back on by holding the power button, but at that point it has to start back up again, not just come out of sleep mode.
2 days ago, I woke up, this happened to tablet - it was off. I am on ICS mind you. It was not battery as when I restarted, it had 44%.
I was a little freaked out as I had to hold down the power button for longer than normal it seemed to get it to come on.
Very strange.
I had this happen for the first time yesterday. I used the reset hole with a paper clip. The reset hole is the one on the left side under the SD card slot, not the hole on the top near the camera.
my email to Gary Key:
Is the 9.4.2.13 update expected to fix the shutdown issue that is
separate from crash/restart issue?
I do not experience crashes but my unit will read as an empty battery
when it is sleeping and shutdown. When started back up the battery
level is fine.
His response:
It should also address this problem. We had two units returned with
this problem and the update cured both of the units. I cannot 100%
guarantee it at this point until we collect additional data but
hopefully it will work fine for you. Ensure you are on AC when the .13
update is started. After the completion of the update. Please shutdown
the unit and do a full power on cycle.
I am still having the sleep/shutdown issues after updating to 9.4.2.13.
GK requested I do a full system reset (dont know if its different from factory reset in the settings but they sent instructions that takes you to the cold boot menu with the wipe data icon and then you wipe data) and update the included apps.
if this doesnt work, will have to send it in.
I can still return as well, but everything else is working (including GPS) so I hate to return it. And as of now amazon is only refund anyway so Id have to find a replacement elsewhere.
Love the smell of napalm in the morning.
after the .14 update, I am still getting shutdowns.
I downloaded the update, then cold booted, then installed, then cold booted again.
anybody else still experiencing this??
Had no problems what so ever with my software until i updated to .21, ( others had flickers, signal problems and stuff like that. ).
How ever the last update seem to have given my tablet the "sleep of death" issue, so it seems to be called atleast, after putting it into sleep it wont wake up unless i hold the power button and let it turn off and then power it back up, happen twice and i just recently updated to .21.

A soft reset is needed just to get the thing working again... It happens again after that, so no, it doesn't really solve anything.

soft reset doesn't mean you have to reinstall everything again. that's a hard/factory reset. soft reset you just stick a paper clip in the little hole underneath the memory card slot.
I don't have that issue at all. I think 2-3 people reported it or from what I've seen so far.

Is this the problem where the screen goes black like usual and when you tap power it doesn't come back on no matter how many times you press power?
This started happening to me after the update, but all I had to do was tap the volume button and then the power button would start responding again.
Hope the fix is that simple for all of you.

It happened to me again and the volume trick didn't work this time. Holding power for about 10 seconds to restart still worked though. Are all Android tablets this unstable? As much as I love the whole idea of Android, the minor to serious kinks I regularly encounter with this thing are pretty aggravating.
It happended twice to me after the upgrade. Had to keep pushing power for like 10 seconds.

its just a software issue introduced with the latest patch and sins it wasent there before the patch its hopefully removed within the next update.
*edit* - it have happen a couple of times now for me and i tried spaming the crap out of the buttons with no result so the only working method is to hold the power button to it goes off or the soft reset button...
I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd put it here also in case the other one is too far down. This is working for me.
I've been having this since the latest update as well. It happens whether it's on the charger or not. So far I haven't had it out of the dock long enough to know if being docked has anything to do with it, but I do know that removing it from the dock once it happens doesn't clear the issue. However, I did notice that if I go under Settings > ASUS Customized Setting > BATTERY SAVING and uncheck MobileDock Battery saving mode, it doesn't seem to happen. After I did that it didn't happen for about 36 hours, but as soon as I re-checked it to test, it happened the first time it went to sleep. Maybe a coincidence, but prior to that I couldn't make it more than a couple of hours without it happening. Might be worth a try as a work around if you're having this issue. After it happened to me again, I unchecked the setting above again and have had no SoD since.
This has happened to me 3 times now since the update and the only way to get any response on is by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Mine has always been docked and plugged into the charger when this happened.

yea, saw this in the other post and tried it to, havent worked for me tho, :/, im gonna undock the tablet this night and ill see if it happens again this morning without the dock, so far it have happpen every morning with and without the charger plugged in, and even while it was a sleep in my bag at work, ( while in the dock ).
I had this happen for the first time today.
I lost about an hour of productivity as it took me ages to work out I had to hold the power button for just over 10 seconds to get it to force a shutdown.
I'm guessing everyone here has a dock who is getting this issue.
Lastnight I enabled the network deep sleeep and dock sleep in asus custom settings.
Anyone using the same? and getting the issue.
First off, I'm rooted and have already patched my Omate TrueSmart Developer Edition with Lokifish Marz's security patch.
Device: 1900 1/8 TrueSmart Dev Edition
ROM/Firmware version: Latest
Changes made to stock firmware (if any): A few Xposed mods
Issue: See below, freeze, drain, screen not functioning.
Steps Taken: Restart, antivirus check
One day I turned my TrueSmart on (while off my wrist), went back about 15 minutes later to it and the screen wouldn't turn on. I though "Ahh, that's strange. I thought I turned this on." I pressed the power button multiple times to try to turn it on. It was already on, but the display would not turn on. The battery was charged already and at about 85%. I held the power button and felt the haptic feedback - no screen on.
Earlier that week, I'd noticed that the TrueSmart's battery was draining a bit faster than usual on WiFi alone, no SIM or GPS on. When the screen wouldn't work, I held down the power button for about 10-16 seconds (some Android Devices will restart, but not all, so I gave that a shot). - Nothing. I then left it alone for a day (didn't feel like playing with it after a long and busy work day). I tried to turn on the screen - nothing. I still got haptic feedback so I knew it was on. "Crap - now I have to void the warranty by doing a battery pull." Removed the screws, found the crappy water seal, did a battery pull, and turned the device back on. Screen worked - phew. The past two days it had been draining rather fast and the watch was overheating even though I kept it in about room temperature conditions.
I thought something was up so I ran avast! Anti-virus (I'm not playing the Linux OS' don't need antivirus software game - so let's not go there.) and the definitions/database took over two minutes to update (usually just 15 seconds) on a strong WiFi connection - strange. I ran the scan - nothing showed up but the scan mysteriously kept going away and I had to restart the scan a few times. Finally it worked even though I had to turn my WiFi on the watch off.
My question is - am I being completely paranoid or has my watch been hacked? Fast battery drain, connection issues, screen not responding, overheating - those are signs of spying and wiretapping, am I wrong? For the time being I removed the battery so that way if I am being spied on or hacked, the watch can't be powered on.
I've had the watch for only a few weeks, never installed any strange apps - all legit stuff. Am I crazy :silly: or is this something to be worried about?

As long as the apps that you have installed are legit, you should be fine.
I guess my only concern would be...how long did you use the device before installing Loki's patch? Did you connect to any network prior? It's your BT on? Is it set correctly?
As far as the overheating and other issues...I had the same. When I went to the latest Operative 20140318v2, most of the issues fixed themselves. Now, the overheating happens only if I am on a call for more than 10min.
Battery issues have become almost not existent when I patched up. However, I did find that of you upgrade to SL PRO...the juice seems to run out quicker....
I would install a good battery app that monitors ALL processes and hardware using power. I was able to solve a few issues this way.
But, overall, I really don't think you're being watched.
Good luck....

Well I already know you're crazy but...
Even with Ensec or Operative the firmware is still unstable. I randomly get greatly increased battery drain yet even when connected to WiFi with full packet logging nothing stands out as odd. The screen not waking up happens from time to time as well as soft locks are being caused by some apps. I suggest you install a system monitor app and see if a particular app is to blame. On one TS, G+ randomly sits there and updates the feed for hours without ever actually updating. One another, it's weather, then on yet another, no issues at all yet all three are on the same firmware and same patch version and option.
The probability that your TS is hacked is fairly low and I suggest looking at the more likely causes first.
Perfectly normal behavior of Android device
BTW - force (hard) restart on many Android device is vol up + power.
Vol down + power will take screen shot.
Of course, there's many Android devices so maybe that combo also works...
TS is half finished device and we are all lucky we have Loki here...
If we were depending on Omate that wouldn't be good...
I'm still waiting my October 2100 1/8 release and I'm quite sure I won't even open it...

Absolutely another smartwatch...
I was really patient with Omate but this is too much...
If I have to wait almost eight months for Xperia Z2 I would f***ed them off and that's device that will work fantastic from the box.
But to wait something eight months to have 30% finished device (in a hardware and software way) - naaah...I'm (probably) out...
That's too bad, I really liked that idea and specifications but, if anyone wants to be honest - it just don't worth all that "hype"...
To completely relay on XDA devs to fix tethering and paring, to patch their incapacities and mistakes...to found their company and then wait for them while they are selling watch (newer and better) for a months...
Way tooooo much for me...
Sorry guys for spamming thread

Haha, we all are a bit crazy. Could make sense.
@mghtymse007 - I used it for a few days before the patch but I should do a factory reset and try to re-patch just to be extra safe.
Anyone have anything to report yet?
Not a major issue yet!
I got a bad pixel, the I am waiting on to return for. No root, rom, or lollipop..... other than all that, so far so good.
Sent from my ghost white Z3!
Seems a little slow with cellular data at times.
Just random force reboots. I'm sure it's all because of the bloatware and hopefully Lollipop will fix it.
Some times mms message get stuck at unable to download, have to reboot to resolve
Not a single issue, forced reboot, glitch, or lag since day one for me.
Few problems
Stamina mode causing texts to send late or freeze, SMS and MMS.
On stock messaging notification mark as read button doesn't respond, must be tapped twice.
With Hangouts dialer installed and u choose to call from Maps or other apps the default choice doesn't stick, it asks which dialer every time over and over, had to uninstall hangouts dialer very annoying that your choice isn't saved.
Battery takes forever to charge, from 0-100 it took 3 1/2 to 4 hours. That's horrible.
1 freeze where the screen stayed black and could not reboot, had to remove Sim card to fix.
Slow on data at times, not as good signal as Samsung or Motorola.
On YouTube no option for 1080p, 720p is highest, Z2 had 1080 option. If you disagree and before you comment try these out yourself and tell me if you're having the same problems.
I'm a little disappointed in the charging rate as well. I had read a handful of spec sheets that listed this as having something similar to quick charge. Having had the droid turbo and Note 4 I loved this setup. I know I didn't have the same feature verbatim but it did have some kind of fast charge feature mentioned. I thought it might be due to not having the correct cord similar issue with the one M8 but, a msg pops up at 90% on my wifes note 4 charger telling me its incompatible with that charger.

If it freezes again just push the small button in the SIM card area, just bellow the SIM card, will reboot.
When in navigation GPS Icon clogs notification area...Why Verizon why? All other variants put it next to 4g signal and not as a notification. Verizon sure knows how to mess up a good phone, there's no compatibility to Sony PC companion either...Verizon's doing...
Having an issue with a boot loop since Verizon update
I got the update from Verizon, it threw my phone into a boot loop. I let it run for like a half hour with no luck. During my entire ordeal, it would usually only make it to the Sony wave screen. It would make it to the Verizon screen on occasion, but would always loop back to the beginning. I would get two vibrations followed by a red notification light. I figured out the button combination for recovery mode. I tried to boot into Safe Mode. It once again went into a boot loop. I put it back into recovery mode and did a factory reset. It did the reset and went directly into a boot loop again. I ended up doing three factory resets in a row to see if it was an issue with the factory reset process. After three resets and a half hour boot loop, it did fully boot up. I went through the entire setup process, emails, wifi, bt, widgets, apps. During that process, it did a force reboot and went back into a boot loop. I went through the entire process listed above again. Safe Mode and three Factory Resets. I have once again gone through the setup process once again with no force reboot...yet. This could happen at any point any this is getting pretty aggravating. Any suggestions?
Bad unit
I think I had bad hardware on mine. I was experienceing randon screen freezes, that forced reboot. Got it replaced and new one is flawless so far.
Urgent: Stuck
Looks like I'm currently experiencing a problem. I was playing Asphalt 8, and as I was exiting the game, the phone froze. I hold the power button, and it just rings my text message ringtone. I hold the camera shutter, it plays the camera sound, but same screen. I call it, it will play my ringtone but I can't answer it.
With a day's worth of battery life, I can't just wait for it to die. What do I do??
EDIT: So what I had to do with a last resort is access my phone with Google Android Device Manager and erase my phone and factory reset. I hope to never experience this again. If only this was a Samsung, removing the battery and putting it back is the easiest hard reset to do. :\
I believe that there is a button inside the sim compartment that simulates a battery pull.

If you would have hit the reset button you probably wouldn't be complaining right now. Learn you device before comparing it to Samsung crap.

Ha, hilarious. We both know what our phones are capable of, but I've never ever knew there was such a handy device.
Ah well, you live and you learn.

Yeah that's my only gripe with this phone. I have no issues. I came from a nexus 5 on ATT. Didn't get ATT in my new house. Glad I made the jump. I charge this phone with my old nexus wireless charger and the thing takes forever to charge.
You're complaining about a limitation of qi charging, not this phone. Compare the output limits of a qi charger and the power block to your phone. If you want the phone to charge faster, it will always be faster with a wire than wireless.

Trust me I knew that already. My nexus 5 did the same thing. I just like the wireless charger in my room. Just easier to grab when you grab the phone in mid sleep. Lol
I do agree with the convenience of qi charging. I just didn't want someone to think that qi would do rapid charging of some sort.
Well, I tried searching for this answer, but couldn't find it, so I apologize if it's somewhere out there. I'm VERY new to all this smart phone technology, so please bear with me. I bought this phone because it looked very similar to a tablet I currently use and figured it couldn't be THAT hard to figure out. I have figured out about 90% of it, but there are some issues that I just can't find an answer to; i.e. how to answer the phone using the swipe option. Sometimes it will work very simply an other times I can swipe til I turn blue in the face and nothing happens. VERY frustrating and I end up missing the call. Is there an alternate way to answer? Next question is what apps can I safely stopped that came factory installed? My battery is draining BIG time, as in, the phone can sit on the counter and be 100% charged and I can pick it up 2 hours later and it's at 80%. I stopped the daydream application and turned off the location option, as well, but I simply don't know what else I can turn off. I have installed a 16 mb external SD card so that I can have my photos sent to it instead of internal storage in the hopes that that conserves battery power, and have only two or three applications installed on the phone, as I mainly want it as a PHONE not as a game playing tablet, which I already have. When I click on "battery" it states that it's collecting data on usage and to please wait. After 10 minutes of waiting and nothing happening, I gave up on that option. And not to throw a dozen questions at you, but the phone also seems to be slower in changing screens. I also had it plugged into my car charger on the way to work and a call came through, but the phone didn't light up so I missed the call b/c nothing I did would make the answer screen appear! I have closed all running applications after using them to conserve battery power (by holding the button between the back button and the menu option button) and I'm at a loss for what else to do or what may be the problem. I don't know what rooting the phone is, or if that will even help. I don't know what mobile data storage is, but mine is turned on. The phone is only a couple of weeks old, so I find it hard to believe the battery itself could be the problem. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated! Sorry if I sound like a moron, but up to this point, I was using a Samsung slide with no games/internet/etc., so this is kind of like culture shock to me!
