Can anyone confirm that the kernels we get pre bundled on cyanogenmod nightlies are not always the same ?
Also if i flash a kernel and after 2 days i flash the latest nightly does it mean my previous kernel has been overwritten ?

The kernels are generally built from the same source code and not much would have changed in 2 days. Yes your kernel will be overwritten but this in no way affects the performance of the phone or whatever you are worried about. Always remember to wipe dalvik cache and normal cache before flashing a new nightly.

Hi
Im currently running on CM9 Nightlies on Samsung Galaxy S II I9100. I have seen people saying the Siyah Kernel is one of the best out there and many people across forums like it.
My question is if I flash this KERNEL what happens when I flash the next nightlies ?? would the Siyah kernel be over written with the nightly default kernel or would remain as is ?

It will be overwritten. You could try deleting boot.img from the Nightly before flashing (open the .zip and delete, don't extract it), although it might not work - I haven't looked at the script.
no it's fine to flash siyah kernel and if you flash any new room you have to format system and clean delvic cache so it's no problem
Just flash CM9 and then kernel again.
But if CM9 is secondary ROM, then the kernel will remain without changes.

Not true. You do NOT need to format system or clean DALVIK cache before flashing a nightly over a nightly. Get your facts straight.
What's a room?
Thanx for shedding the light...!! I gues will just stick with Nightlies i find they are more matured these days and im better off with them in the long run..!!

Normal for dual-core.
i have just updated to the lastest cm10.1 nightly update today and when i re-flash siyah 1.8.6 all sorts of problems breaks loose.
the cyanogen bootup logo was extremely slow and when the phone eventually booted up it was unusably lagging.
i has to restore from a backup and when i tried to reinstall siyah again, the same thing happens. I think i am correct to assume that it is the kernel that is causing the problems.
i am now using the stock cm kernal but i am missing the fact i can overclock my beast
anyone else having this issue and will it be fixed on further cm updates or will it be a siyah updating issue??
Thanks

Have you installed 1st or 2nd rom ?
Have you tried the new update ? (Siyah 1.8.7)
Problem verifyed with: Yank.555 1.4, Siyah 1.8.6
Do not install these kernels with the latest CM10.1 nightly (13. jan) - use stock or Siyah 1.8.7 instead
This is quite strange because I use the Rom ReVolt 3.3.3 available here.
It uses Android 4.2.1 and I have Siyah Kernel 1.8.6.
So there might be a sort of compatibility ...
I have upgraded to the 1.8.7 and its fixed the problem ;]

So with the 1.8.7 you can use the kernel on cm 10.1 ?

But Gokhanmoral's website says "cm10.1 is now supported in dual-boot configurations" with the latest 1.8.7 build.
Has anyone tried the CM 10.2 nightlies yet? I'm running 10.1 with AJK 4.3 and I'm leary about trying 10.2 until AJK is compatible, mostly because I like the audio boost from using STweaks. Just wanted to see what other's experience has been. Thanks!

Yeah I just installed in a min ago. Seemed to work fine but then I went back into recovery and tried installing STI kernel and now I'm stuck at boot.
...lame. I cant post in the development forum so I guess I'll just be waiting.... CM 10.2 worked fine, its just the custom kernel. I tried every way I know. I used jivys kernel cleaning script and wiped everything. still no luck.

That's what I wanted to find out. I know it works with 4.2.2 but I'm assuming not with 4.3? But I was trying to install STI 2.34... I think the latest is 2.39 so maybe the newer version might work? or am I still wrong??
I flashed the 10.2 nightly from the most recent 10.1 nightly. Works great. Wiped cache + dalvik. Also flashed the 4.3 gapps.
You may want to wait a few days for any initial bugs to be squashed.
Infected's i9100 CM10.2
I too tried the CM10.2 official nightly by wiping cache+dalvik from Infected's i9100 CM10.1 Linaro builds. I then installed AJK not knowing it didn't support 4.3 yet and so was stuck at boot logo.
I don't care so much about the custom kernel. How else can I run a ROM from the i9100 thread but use the i777 CM10.2 kernel? If anybody can just step me through the libs and keylayout changing process that'd be awesome!

PM me a link to the ROM you are talking about and I may see if it works with my alpha AJK with CM10.2 support.
So right now I'm running Task650s AOKP with Siyah Kernel, but an old version, thats still Android 4.0.4. In addition, I only have CWM 5. A lot of the KK ROM threads say that CWM 6 is required (and some JB ones imply the same thing, or tha I need JB bootloaders), but the one I want to flash (PACMan) doesn't have such a warning, but I'm still a bit apprehensive. Will I be fine if I just wipe, flash PACMan + GApps and reboot? Or is there an intermediary step I need like flashing a new kernel, and if so which one do I need?
Thanks guys

Well pacman isn't based on kitkat so I think you're good to go, the newest nightlies for that are still based on jellybean right? Or has it changed? I haven't downloaded one in a like two weeks.

Yes, you will be fine, as long as you install a JB kernel first (either STI or AJK 4.9 AOSP). I would suggest you install Milestone 1 (the download link is labeled PAC Release), instead of the nightly. Nightlies have a reputation for being finicky at times, so if you want stability you'd be better off sticking with known stable releases.
And don't forget to flash the gapps either, or you'll run into other problems.

Alright, sounds great. Thanks for the help, I'm downloading now.
Hi, I'm running CyanogenMod 11 nightlies (currently running the 1/6 build) for the i605 and have had a few charging and battery issues. I'm running the stock kernel and the but heard that devil kernel will maybe fix this. I've never flashed a kernel so I have a few questions:
-Where can I find a link to the version of devil that will work with cm11 on i605?
-Should I dirty flash a newer nightly cm 11 build along with the kernel?
-Should I clear the cache before I flash the kernel. What should I make sure to do before flashing?
Thanks, any help will be appreciated.

Here is where you will find the correct Devil Kernel. You want to download the file called "Devil2-2.3.2-t0lte-DUAL-20140102.zip"
If you choose to flash a newer nightly, do so before you flash the kernel. Each time you flash a nightly it will overwrite the kernel.
As always, make a backup first if you are unsure, just to be safe. Flash the nightly update (or don't, your choice). Clear cache/dalvik, reboot, let the ROM initialize and settle. Then reboot to recovery and flash Devil, clear cache/dalvik, reboot. You will need to flash the kernel every time you flash a new nightly.
