It's my first time trying to root here and yes I'm new. But anyways, I'm stuck very early on in the process, not having even unlocked the bootloader yet, simply because whenever I launch the bootloader, I hear the 'connect/disconnect' windows sound, from then on it just says 'error: device not found'. This happens even though I've had the usb connected from before loading into the bootloader.
I've tried countless things for around 3 hours and nothing seems to work! I'd also like to add that I'm using Hasoon2000's all in one kit if that makes a difference.
I've done the obvious things like turned on usb debugging, installed htc drivers so many times, installed htc sync manager, uninstalled, reinstalled again. Tried using different usb ports, tried two different PCs. Checked all over the internet, can't seem to find anything.
Basically, my phone seems to disconnect or decide 'not to exist' as soon as the bootloader starts up not allowing me to do anything on it.
Any help would be appreciated, I know it's nowhere as bad as bricking your phone but I'd love to root my phone so thanks!

It does say fastboot USB all the time it's conneceted but still isn't found by the PC. Also installed the drivers and plug/unplug while on the bootloader.
I've had problems with the sync manager many times in the past, not being able to detect the phone, would that be a problem? If so I was thinking if resetting the phone and trying again would be an option, thanks
Make sure you're not using winodws 8, coz its not supported and the ADB drivers are not included in the sync manager.
So try it on windows 7.

One of the PCs was windows 7, the other was windows xp, so I'm having a feeling it's the phone itself
It's easier to do with Linux.
Do you have the option to try with it?

Not at the moment though, could set it up on a PC but I was really hoping it wouldn't take me to install a new OS just to root my phone :/ I'll try resetting the phone, if that doesn't work, I'll try with Linux

-Go to bootloader, have ur phone connected with ur PC.
-Open device manager on ur PC, If u see "Android Phone" exand it, if u see My HTC then...
-Right click, update driver software, browse my computer..., let me pick... next, ok
Hope it works... it worked for me.

My problem is that my phone rooted with Revolutionary Hboot 1.4 stopped being recognized by my computers on multiple ROMs and stock kernel along with Chads #9....when I connect it no audible noise sayings its connected, doesent show up in device manager, no notifications on pull down on the phone nothing....I cant connect adb cause it doesnt recognize the phone even when I go into fastboot etc I get nothing. Ive searched and searched and found people with similar problems with no real solution but Ive tried it all from removing reinstalling drivers changing ROMS wiping SD card and formatting phone until eyes bleed and 4 different usb cords. Once during several hours I did get the pop up asking what I wanted to do but it wouldnt connect or give the audible warning. Could it be a hardware problem? Should I try going to stock?
Are u possibly on MeanRom maybe 3.7 or so and anthrax Rls 8 beta 2 or 3.
If so; you may have chad0989's "fast charge" script on & preventing usb stuff from working. One of my last 10th posts in MeanRom has details on what to change or u could move to Mr 3.92 where the script is disabled by default.
Edit: I must be tired and didn't read your post correctly & doubt this is your issue. Is usb debugging enabled? (shouldnt matter with fasrboot). Did u uninstall all the HTC drivers/sync etc, & reinstall just the driver (see revolutionary.io for just the driver).

No I havent.....How would that affect it if it wont mount when the phone is booted? I cant get it to connect in fastboot either.....is it possible that the data pins where its plugged in could be bad? Isnt it like 2 are for charging and other 2 are for data or something?
Have you tried mounting it when in recovery?
Have you tried using a different port, or a different computer?
I would try flashing a different recovery (twrp or 4ext) and try mounting the USB device through the recovery options, if that doesn't work, I would say it could be a bad port.
A recovery can effect if your able to connect to your pc. But if your trying to get your issue solved try flashing a different recovery to see if will help.

4. If that still doesn't work, try PDAnet http://junefabrics.com/android/ Once you have that installed, click "all programs", click (or right click depending on your OS) "Install Legacy USB drivers". Then plug your phone in to complete installation.
5. From the thread here:

The other is that the phone may be setup for the diagnostic modem mode
that store technicians use to triage the phone. You can access the menu to
change this by typing ##8778# in the dialer.
The top "UART" setting should be on MODEM, and the bottom "USB" setting
should be on "PDA" for regular operation. As technicians we normally change
this setting back, but there is always a chance someone forgot it when
finishing up a phone.
6. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic145884.html#post875300 THIS JUST SAVED ME! My transform said it was connected but my computer didn't "see" it. After doing this, just reconnect. If you have any questions about this method, just ask me.
7. If all this fails, try another computer, os, usb port, or usb cord.
If you cannot get the phone to connect, you can use adb to push, pull, etc. files. For example, to push, you would install the sdk and set it up (google it). Then put a file, such as browser.apk in the platform-tools directory. Click run, type cmd. Cd to your platform-tools directory. Type adb devices to see your phone plugged in. Then type "adb push browser.apk /sdcard" to put the apk on your sd card. I think there is a adb wireless app somewhere too so you can even skip the cable.
Here is a list of compatible usb cords that have been shown to work:

Well I've tried the 8778 which I guess doesn't work but I only found 3282 & 3424 diagnostic codes and didn't see anything there in regards to that post. I tried the other app but it was a no go. I am going to flash another recover later tonight and see how that goes. It's just weird that NOTHING connects in any mode and can't do adb. it sounds almost impossible to do anything to your since tgeres no way of getting you computer to recognize your evo. Phone hardware does go bad eventually. This is most likely a hardware issue and no debugging or command typing is going to fix it. Your only options are to go have it serviced. Not though sprint of course. They won't even touch it. If you know somebody you could take it to them and have it looked at to see what's going on and find a fix with it. I had a fairly similar problem with my acer tablet, Couldnt get data to mount, tried all the solutions with no success. Then I tried typing commands to rewrite the data table nodes associated with the data partition. With no success either. The partition was bad. Back to my point, hardware does go bad. Hopefully you can get someone to fix it.

Did you get it to work? I am having the same issue.. I'm running Shostock2..
I never had any issues but then again its much easier on windows 7 than older windows versions. Here's what I do.
A) connect computer to phone without USB debugging enabled. Let it do whatever it wants to do.
B) disconnect and enable USB debugging. Reconnect. Let it do its thing.
C) disconnect. Reboot into recovery. Connect. Let it do its thing. Disconnect.
D) boot onto android operating system, connect (with USB debugging enabled) and it should give an option on status bar to chose what ya wanna do. That of course is like first time set up type thing. Just what works for me.

I can't tell if you're serious. In OP's other thread, you discouraged handholding. *is genuinely confused
To OP: I would try once more for a clean install of USB drivers. So from Control Panel -> uninstall a program (that's for Win7, something similar for other versions) -> uninstall SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones. Also uninstall any versions of Kies/Kies Mini, etc.
Reboot computer.
Download Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones, v.1.4.8.0 or later, though 1.4.8.0 seems to work for most people. If you can't find it, PM me with an e-mail and I'll e-mail it to you (too big to add to this post, if someone has a place they can host it let me know). Install it, let it do its thing.
Reboot computer again.
Plug in phone and leave it be. Let it do its thing. It may take awhile, but be patient, it *should* eventually install all necessary drivers and get everything working again.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.
Two different questions. This problem is one that I believe is unique to his phone / PC. The other thread isn't.

try uninstalling kies and clean its leftovers, then install first drivers then Kies. see if your device is connected, if not change pc or Windows ur running.
Hope this helps !
Follow this guide
You do not need to uninstal kies just Uninstall drivers
1. Uninstall any previous instance of USB driver
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (the problem is with the latest drivers not pc)
4. REBOOT IF REQUIRED
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install USB drivers downloaded in steps 3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection.
I've connected my S3 to the PC several times, I've also rebooted twice and I've never lost connection again. while of course everything works as expected.

If having difficalty finding driver then download SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 QCOM TOOLKIT V2.3 install go to directory where installed. Find driver folder and install driver from there. Make sure drivers are 1.4.6.0.
You can then save the driver exe file and unistall the toolkit. No need to run toolkit or use toolkit.

Just realized something.. My Computer doesnt recognize my phone while it's in fastboot mode.. Is this normal? I don't think I have a recovery. My phone still works fine. Don't have a usb otg

Something weird for sure in Win 8.1, I too went all night last night playing around, and then today, nothing. Same thing, if I open cmd and check adb devices it list's it fine, but I can't run any commands, it just says waiting for device.
Reboot and recognize. I do believe there is a fix in the international forums, going to have to pursue. Seems to me nothing really works right in 8.1 though.
I got it, if you have just updated or changed something you must go through and redo usb debugging, I changed from 4.3 ATT to Brightstar 4.3 Dev Edition, and had to go through the whole setup process, enable developer options, enable USB debugging and checked through cmd, adb devices, and viola, it's there again. Not sure if that helps you, but it did me I still stand that 8.1 is a PITA!
I have the same problem as you! I do not know what to do. Please help! Will it work if I install windows XP?

good to here, lol typo or wrong commands will get you every time
hey there. So I have an AT&T X+ and I'm currently on Elegancia 5.2 I believe. I was wondering if I should just go back to stock and wait for the OTA 4.2.2 update, or flash the newest Elegancia ROM? But, I kinda have a handicap:
My phone doesn't connect to my PC or any PC at all. So if I'm going to flash a Rom I gotta put it on drop box and transfer it etc. I will NOT be able to flash a boot.img because of this either. I've tried the app Flashify, and it says it isn't compatible with my device. So if any of these roms have a custom boot.img I probably won't be able to use it.
Another thing. I feel like I know what the problem is with my device. It says that USB storage is unavailable at all times. Even when it is plugged in. If anyone knows a fix for this please don't be afraid to speak up.
Thanks guys!

Did u try Installing proper drivers and android-sdk-windows........????
To start with the Latest drivers and the ADB setup should be proper and even after that if that doesn't show then....
Open device Manager in Windows an see whether atleast it has been shown as Unknown device or something there.....
I tried all that and nothing. I've had this problem for the past month and every bit of troubleshooting I've done with ATT, HTC and xda hasn't worked. In the photo attached, my phone is plugged in to the PC and it still says usb storage unavailable.
