I can accept failure but I can't accept not trying.

Get used to it man! That's Verizon quality control for you when it comes to CLNR's!

Overheating to the point the phone shuts off?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app

Exactly the reason why I'd rather overlook an issue (like pinkish capacitive buttons or some light leakage) and stick with the one I got new rather than ask for a refurb. Any issues I may have w a new device hopefully show up in first 30 days of purchase so I can still request another new one. Had very bad luck myself with droid 2 clnrs. Sort to hear about your troubles, hope the next one will be solid.

Oh man, I'm getting my 2nd one today and I'm starting to regret it already...hopefully we'll all magically get perfect phones from now on.

You'd figure vzw could save itself some cash by ensuring clnrs are actually "like new". It doesnt matter what device it is, quality control on the refurbs seems to suck bad.

I'm pretty sure they don't lose too much money from the clnr's and shipping. I mean the casing for the phone doesn't cost much and all the internals are refurbished generally. Plus they have a shipping agreement with Fedex and use ground now for return shipping as opposed to 2 day. If they were losing considerable money from the CLNR program they probably would be much more stringent about how many devices they hand out.

I'm on my third.
1st one randomly lost ability to connect to CDMA networks.
2nd one was stolen.
3rd (current) one heats up a lot, but I'm not going to return it unless it becomes an issue.

Got my one-and-only before that. Black Friday sale @ Costco online... ZERO issues.

Got my 3rd today....top of the screen is loose, no data (3g or 4g), and proximity sensor doesn't work. I'm not holding my breath for #4 to be up to par. I don't like being jerked around...

I'm on my 4th Rez.
My 1st was a CLN to replace a series of Droid Charges that had all sorts of problems (Which was a replacement to cover my LG revolutions that would brick themselves in the middle of the night while charging).
That developed issues with charging port
2nd replacement had bad screen.
3rd replacement was fine, but it dropped and screen cracked.
Replacement for that had a non functioning compass.
This one seems to be fine. Everything works and GPS is with 9 feet when I'm outside. Hopefully this is my last Rezound.

I think I've had 7. Still on number 2 though because it has far less issues than any of the other ones did. I had a camera problem that doesn't appear to exist anymore, and my speaker is a tad weaker than some of the other ones I've gotten. But no issues otherwise. Never gets hot either. Light bleeding is also less on this one than any others I've gotten.
My replacements ranged from dead pixels to screen burn (or some kind of shadowing under the display), borked proximity sensors, hot pink keys, over heating and shutting off on the charger... Basically a fail all around. Shame shame. I'm still not sure what I'm going to have them do for me, they've given me 2 months of service for almost nothing with me asking for or accepting it... That was a nice surprise lol. I know now though to be more thorough about inspecting my phone when I get it so I get brand new replacements and not clnrs. Of course this is the only phone I've ever had a problem with other than my first blackberry curve glitching out. And I had a really old Nokia phone that the keys wore out on after a few months (it was a cheap one though, one of the first flip phones with 2 displays) Lol.

Got my #4 and it works but the screen is loose on the top (again!) so that messes with the proximity sensor..
I also had a lot of drama returning my 3rd one today. I left out the package for the mailman (apartment complex with a gated front door). I walked to get some coffee and when I got back the box was ripped open phone gone! Long story short-ish...I got the phone back from a neighbor that took it. I'm really starting to lose faith in humanity..

All was well for 22 days....

Yep, all was well for 22 days. No glitches on updates, WIFI was not exceptional but on par with my Droid X, GPS worked pretty good. Tiny little bit of light bleed under the virtual home and menu buttons area, but nothing that was bothersome. But, that all changed tonight when I noticed a big light bleed at the top and then I noticed the screen separating from the top of tablet for a good 3 inches or so. The tablet shipped on the 27th and I got it on the 4th. So, I called Best Buy and they said the 30 day return window would begin on the 4th. So I get to go return this thing tomorrow and hope the store agrees to the return window. I know this could be a fluke, but I am really leary of getting another Prime now.
Edit...really tired... I meant 25 days.....

Wow I finally got my third one last week and it seems fine right now. I hope that doesn't happen to me. Such a great tablet when it works.
Well, I don't know what will happen. I am a reward zone member. It is past the 14 days, but at 25 days the screen starts to seperate from the back and now is almost seperated all the way across the top with the glass actually bent slightly as if 3/4 of the glue did not hold. I have never dropped it, always keep in the case when not in use, and no one else has touched thing.
I noticed it last night as I finished up a session of GTA 3 when the screen had a big light bleed at the top all of sudden. As I went to investigate, I heard the screen creak, then I see the gap. I called Best Buy and they said I could take it back to a store today and get another....I have my doubts...but it's worth a shot.
I don't want to RMA it as I have not heard good things about the process and I sure as hell don't want a repaired tablet either. I think they need to replace it. But, I have a sinking feeling that I will be mailing the thing to a service center today. I taken all kinds of pictures of it.
Has anyone who sent theirs in and had to pay the postage, gotten the postage refunded it if turned out to be a product defect? I think paying for postage for a defective product it bull****. That's like buying a car, having the door or wheel fall of a month later and then having to pay the towing bill. I can understand paying upfront, but I think you should get reimbursed if the issue is due to a product defect.
Can you post a picture of where the screen is "separating"? Mine is doing that too but it's only at a very sharp angle I even notice. Like 170* angle

I have this same problem not as extream as the OP but its there i can feel the screen depress back into place when i put my finger on the spot. I talked to support they are going to ship it out and fix it (got them to pay). Not sure if it will ever get worse but i'd rather take care of it before it gets as bad as the OP. I am sending mine out next friday. I hope i have better experience then that one guy. I took plenty of pics with dates and stuff so hopefully in the event of any problem i'm covered.
Yeah, I obviously took pics too after seeing the smashed prime thread. I just don't get it either....one minute its fine, and then boom, it's seperating. No gradual seperating, just all of a sudden.
Could it be that the battery inside is bulging up/expanding which is causing the two halves to seperate?

That's exactly what I was thinking when I look at the pictures, weirf it would seperate in the middle and not an edge.

Well, you may be right, but since I am trying to get it fixed and not void the warranty, I'm not going to investigate it too much by trying to get better view inside. I never noticed it being hot during use or charging though. Though I will say the batter did start declining much more rapidly the last couple of days.
Do you not have any consumer protection laws in your country? In the UK, this would be the store's issue to fix.

Not so in the US. Best Buy washes their hands of tablet issues after 14 days. Then you have to the manufacturer. Some retailers have different policies but this is pretty much the norm. I am hopeful ASUS will replace the whole tablet. I don't have warm fuzzies about a repaired unit, but we will have to see. I will be sending it off in about an hour. Shame, because I really liked using it.
Holy crap dude! Mine isn't anywhere near that bad! In fact, mine is on the underside of the screen!! Wow, I'd be pissed if mine was doing that!

T-Mobile guys...have a question

so, im on my second amaze (first one had a dead pixel) and i need to take this one back now too because i have these 3 bright spots under the cap keys where light is leaking thru that is pretty bad and that i never noticed on their display model or the first one i owned.
since ive only been with tmo about 2-3 weeks, im not really sure how often i can return a phone for being defective (still within remorse period). do they flag your account for too many returns? is there a limit to the amount of phones they will exchange? should i try and return this phone to a different store?
i feel like for the money i paid for this phone it should be flawless and at the same time its both a burden on me and tmo that i keep having to return this phone. thoughts? experiences? thanks
the three bright spot are on all models, its a known issue with the phone, they may take it back, but you will get an other one with the same issues.

i dont think it matters how many you physically return but if your requesting them from insurance they do because a lot of people scam insurance and just sell their devices.
Although, the capacitive lights at the bottom do leak, a lot. this is a well known issue and its highly likely that the next Amaze you get will have the same issue. If I were you, I'd at least root, and download adjbrightness from the market and just turn em off. It saved me some battery and got rid of all the light leakage hope I helped bro
if it is a deal breaker for ya, just get the GSII, its a good one too

I never noticed these on my phone until last night when I was watching a show on my phone. Kind of annoying, and I'm hoping they don't get worse. I don't know how they would, but I've had the phone for two months and never noticed it till now.
For sure exchange though, I doubt they flag your account for having phone hardware issues. I only had 4 mytouch4gs in a year, but I was annoyed enough to get a free amaze out of it. They're good with exchanges. Wish they didn't have to be and the phones worked, but oh well.

It really sucks having blue lines in the LCD. Since I am not far from Chicago, the cold weather here I believe is triggering the issue. I am going to keep exchanging until HTC gets it right and T-Mobile sends me a good phone lol.
Exchange it man! Don't be shy. You deserve what you pay for and tmo needs to be held responsible for providing that. Guarantees are only useful if you use them! If they overcharged you for some service would you just pay it because you don't want to burden them? I do agree it can be a pain to bring it in, I would go so far as to request a discount on your service. Never forget, they are there to serve you!
P.S. I also never lock myself into contracts, just so I have the option to quit. You would be amazed how much better service you get from the "customer retention center."

Under the cap buttons? Really? I guess I will have to see the picture when u post it. The known light bleed issue is 3 white spots above the cap buttons... More so in between each cap button... But on the screen. It's noticeable when the screen has a black background. If that's not what you're talking about, then u may have a faulty device

I don't have any blue lines or dead pixels on my Amaze, but so have the very common light bleed onto a dark screen, which was annoying.
I downloaded an app called screen filter off the market and it shuts the lights off on the soft keys. It was god sent! Didn't have to root my device either.
Not sure what you are talking about. Honestly don't want to as it may bother me if I see it on mine because of your picture, lol!

ok guys, just got back exchanging my 2nd device at a different store and wait for it...wait for it...this thing is flawless (so far)!!!! very, very minimal light bleed and absolutely zero light coming from in between the cap buttons...
the store i bought the first 2 units from admitted to me that they sold very few amazes so i figured i must have been getting old stock. well it turns out, the other store i went to today had gotten burglarized a few weeks ago and had all completely new inventory. looks like the newer units have maybe addressed our concerns? not sure, but at this point im very happy!!
now that i got a good unit, you guys are stuck with me here for awhile! LOL
That's cool man. Glad to hear you got a good Amaze.
It was funny after reading this thread, I kept looking for those spots you were talking about, which I do get, but bleeds into the screen and that app took care of that problem. But having it outside in the sun, I noticed those blue lines. It is faint, but there. Looks like a grid. I assume these are on all of the devices? I can't see it much unless outside and the sun beating on it at a certain angle.
Kind of how my Kindle Fire is as well.

[Q] Small Defect, Worth Replacing?

Hey guys, so it seems I have a near perfect HTC One, where I even don't have that gap at the top, but I do however have on the left side near the top left corner a small manufacturing defect that leaves about 2-3mm of the LCD edging out a bit making it feel as if brushing against a sharp ruler on that spot. I rarely have my hand there to really feel that defect through natural use of the phone and certainly not visible unless specifically looking for the LCD edge line very very closely, my concern is if I go in and swap the phone that the swapped phone will have other things wrong with it.
Should I bother replacing? I have no experience replacing/exchanging the same exact phone for a better build quality so this is why I ask.
It's a roll of the dice..
My original pre-order was almost mint but had a similar / minor flaw. I called AT&T and they sent me a replacement..
The replacement they sent had a more brown'ish looking screen and the backlit buttons were very dim. It also had a small gap on the top.
I kept the original and sent back the replacement that had just arrived.
I then went to an AT&T store and the replacement he brought out had some flaw where the backlit buttons would only turn on if it was pitch dark. I refused that replacement and still have my original pre-order One.
If you have one that's close to mint and it only has a minor flaw, I'd keep it..

I don't think it's any secret that HTC has a few QC problems to correct..
The normal user would probably never notice to be honest. We are the 1% that are hardcore users and notice everything.
Most people open the box, turn it on, and don't even arrange their icons never mind tinker..
None of the 3 I had were serious flaws that a normal user would even notice..

Thanks for sharing your experience, definitely going to stick with this one then considering the hassle and very low probability of finding that "perfect" One.
Also, I want to clarify that the phone is absolutely stunning every time I pick it up and am impressed and excited by it just as I was when watching videos or reviews for it before its release while waiting for my preorder. I've had it since the 18th and certainly not bored with it, which goes to show for something I think. These minor QC issues aren't even noticed by the larger majority, as said in previous post.
Thanks guys/gals, my nerves are calmed about exchanging it

HTC One poor quality control

Hey all,
I'm just posting to see how many people have noticed HTC's poor quality control for the One. I went through 4 of these before finally giving in and just returning. I visited three different best buys in order to try to find a decent One. I love the phone, the way it looks, the way it sounds. My first phone had crackling coming through the speakers and gaps all around the edges, so I returned that. My second had glue coming out around the sides of the phone and a few stuck pixels. I also want to throw in that none of the One's I saw had the top of the display glass level with the phone. It was always sticking up and my finger would run against it when pulling the notification slide down. My third had a bunch of stuck pixels and I noticed that the screen was slightly yellow. I don't know if that comes from HTC using two different suppliers for their phone displays, but I'd imagine that was the case. Final One had one stuck pixel up top in the status bar. I was okay with that stuck pixel though, it wasn't in a very noticeable area so I decided to let it go. This phone still had crackling coming through the speakers but only on youtube with beats audio turned on. I'm guessing that is just a software issue as all my Ones had experienced that. I went to watch YouTube a few days after I got the phone and during the black loading screen before a video I noticed a few more pixels had become stuck.
I downloaded a pixel test and fixer app and tested with the black screen. My One had developed at least 10 stuck pixels all over the display. I consider that a sign of the display failing. Running the stuck pixel fixer did nothing to help. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The One is the nicest, most unique idea for a phone I've ever seen. I really want a good one but I haven't been able to find a single one without issues. At bestbuy for the third one, the mobile specialist even opened their entire stock for me looking at each phone and was flabbergasted by all the issues we were finding with the phones.
So has anyone else had as many issues as I have? My builds were all from mid to late April in their build numbers. I'm just so disappointed, I want the One but am not going to pay for something that I feel isn't up the standards that it should be. I may go with the Galaxy but I just know I'll always be disappointed that I didn't get the One. I've tested the Galaxy, the speakers are obviously worse, the headphone sound isn't as crisp and the screen isn't as nice.
TL; DR: I returned four HTC Ones all due to different issues and am wondering if anyone else has had any of the same issues. I'm not trolling, I'm honestly disappointed.

Yes. People should know that HTC can not make high quality phones. Gap riddled "gapless" phones. Capacitive buttons that don't work half the time (like the Nexus One.. they didn't learn? wtf..). Too much glue? Glass that isn't flush??
At best this is a $100 phone. Shame on HTC trying to charge for the junk they produce. Flagship phones should be flawless at this price point. Yes, the oddball phone will sneak through QC, but it's ridiculous already.
That being said, the insides are awesome. I absolutely looooove the battery life I get from this phone. Front facing speakers are a no brainer, and I can't believe no one did it yet.

Were you able to find a phone with no blatant flaws? If so I'm extremely jealous...

The top of my phone's screen is not flush with the speaker grill. Not a huge issue. I live with it. I can probably sell this phone used for $400 when the nexus 5 comes out and get that.

my only issue is that the top of the phone there is a gap between the aluminum and the plastic, gapless my a$$ still love the phone though, came from iPhone 5, had iPhone since day 1
Yea I bought a black 32gb last week and it's literally flawless. Zero gaps and no dead pixels.

Mine has been flawless
Mines flawless. Instead of hollering about it on a forum I would take it back to att and have a Congo line of new ones and check every one of them till I see one I like

Mines flawless also.No gaps or dead pixels
Do you guys know the odds of getting 4 bad ones in a row are.
Not,saying it didnt happen, but, the stars wouldve had to align against you , to recieve 4 bad phones in a row,
Mine is excellent except for the left side glass isn't as flush as the right. I only notice it once in a while when dragging from the top so I can live with it.
Im curious,
After the 4 bad Ones, did you end up with a new phone

I seriously think the stars did align against me with that phone. I just read on the forum that the black version isn't seeing as many defects as the silver? Does anyone know if this is true? I originally purchased the phone from Best Buy and they did bring out every silver One they had and the sales rep and I did find defects with all except one. That one had the stuck pixel that turned into more. So I ended up returning and going to AT&T yesterday. I asked them about the one and said I've been having problems with the quality on my last few. They said unfortunately they would only be able to open one for me and I would only be able to exchange it once if there were problems. That line kind of sounded like BS to me, especially since I saw a woman come in with a smashed iPhone and no insurance she got earlier that day that they were willing to commit insurance fraud for...So I ended up getting the S4 for now. I still think the one is a better phone and I know I'm going to regret not getting it. If the issue is truly more with the silver version I'd gladly pay the restocking fee to exchange for the One.
What really bums me out is that I wasn't even going to upgrade my phone until I saw the One. I had the S3 and was ok with it, other than my battery life being garbage. When I saw the one and started messing around with it I loved it so I got it. Then the issues came and now I have the S4, which is a good phone. Its just not very different from the S3. My girlfriend actually picked up the S3 and handed it to me as we were going to bed last night thinking it was my new phone.
Sounds like OP is trolling.
4 defective phones?
You must be looking for problems. 4 straight screens with dead pixels?
Pics, or it didn't happen.
That is to bad
We have both the HTC one and a galaxy s4 in our household.we just switched to At&t from T-Mobile, she actually started out on s3, which died after 3 days
My wife now has the s4, and I have the One, she wishes she had got one instead.
So I have got to use both pretty extensively, and I greatly prefer the One over the S4.

I'm pretty sure you're getting screwed because exchanges are usually refurbs that haven't actually been fixed to eliminate defects
You're just getting other people's defective devices.

My 6P arrived defective today :( *UPDATE* perfect replacement received < 24 hrs later

*UPDATE*
Google overnighted a replacement unit i received yesterday and all is good. was just one of the unlucky ones!
The screen was not installed correctly. it is pushed too far to the bottom leaving a large gap in between the top of the black plastic and the metal frame. at the bottom the screen is pushed up over the metal lip and no flush with the device.
now i wait until next week to get my replacement...hopefully
That's a real bummer [emoji20]

It happens with every manufacturer. My wife had her MacBook sent in 4 times until they finally just replaced practically everything, and now her power button on her iPhone is unresponsive.
Sent from a phone that is not a 128GB Frost Nexus 6P
total bummer.
Not good.
First batch devices always suck.
Sorry to see that after such a long wait
Gutted. Unlucky.
That's a bummer! Hope there QC improved for the rest of us!

Not true bro, there's always a finite number of devices in every release that have had issues. Happens every time. Even after the initial batches.
Got my Nexus 6P and starting to think that there is somthing wrong with the colour? like the top half is more pinkish and the bottom half is white...
attached a picture, not sure its the greatest example
Yeah, I agree with the first/early batch statements. My Nexus 6 was a fi3st batch and had burn in issues and my LG G4 is a first batch and has the infamous touchscreen issues.
I promised myself to fight off impatience and never buy a phone on release again. I'll wait a month or two so they can work out any possible kinks.
First batches can be more problematic than later ones, but it's not always the case (as Tony_stark said earlier). In my 1st day Nexus experience:
N4 (x2 16gb), perfect;
N5 (x5, 16gb & 32gb) 4 perfect, 1 with dodgy charger, replacement perfect (and no button issues on any, although the lower volume than later ones was noticeable, errrrm... later, once they were released);
N7 (x1 16gb) faulty with screen lift like yours, the replacement the same, 2nd replacement perfect.
N7 (2013, x1 16gb) perfect.
Early adopters are guinea pigs, and our issues and feedback do add to the later device. It doesn't mean the first batches are bad, just more likely to show issues, in part due to the relatively small numbers of very focused buyers.
Still, it's always unsettling to receive one that's not perfect. Hope your replacement is perfect!
