format it, try a different one, flash a stock ROM. if none of that helps, replace the sdcard slot

I think I would hv to visit samsung care as it is in guarantee period
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

yeah, but make sure it's a hardware issue first

Your SD is crap, try another or use Perseus (It have timeout increased)

change the rom, if your SD is crap, remove it and buy a high performance one, change rom to stock to see the diffrence if the problem persists...

Hope its solved!

well, this has happened to me after I dropped the phone - so I swapped the slot. so it might be hardware after all, the chance is small though

What card are you using and is it backed up. This may just be a one off, but it could be a sign that your card is on the verge of failing, classic sign of failure with SanDisk cards, whatever back it up and hope.

Cm7 Sd card mount problem?

Sorry If this has been asked already.believe me i have tried searching. My phone is on official cm7 rc1 and works fine except at random times, about twice a day, it says sd card is safe to remove. It won't let me use any application on my sd card after this and it won't let me remount it again. How can i fix this? Is it a kernel problem? Thanks a lot!

Do you mean only use 2g instead of 3g?

First of all, instead of creating a new thread for such a query, you could have simply asked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211969
Secondly, what is the class of your SD Card?
Not sure.it's the one that came with my phone. 2g that's all i know

Strange bug in about every custom roms

Hello everyone, this is not utterly important but I was wondering if anyone else have this bug, let me explain :
It's random but happens almost everytime. When i plug or unplug the phone for battery charging, the clock screen pops up (not the one for alarm settings, the other one which is pretty much like the unlock screen). From that precise moment, loud speaker activates automatically for any call I make or receive... rebooting the phone fixes it so it's no big deal... yet i'm curious, can anyone confirm or is it just me ?
Happens with any Cm9 or Cm10 I think, well... in my case at least. Thought it could be related to the broken offline charging thing in Cm9 and later versions but i dunno.

Strange issue.. never occurred to me with any gb or ics rom!!
Must be hardware related then. Tried most of the roms and kernels I found on this forum since lupohirp's first ics build. Thanks anyway, not a big issue.

Use a proper stable recovery.. wipe everything except sdcard. Everything. Then try flashing a new rom.
Same thing with Cwm and Amonra. Now using Twr and no changes. Not sure if I repartitioned my sd since the first time I encountered this issue but I don't think it could be related to this. Of course I wipe cache, dalvik and system partition everytime I flash a new rom and I wipe data as well most of the time. Thanks anyway
Never to me. I think the blame is you kernel!
cm-9.1.4-GENETICS
Try this rom cm-9.1.4-GENETICS-HEPHAPPY-p500

This is the best CM9 ROM ever.

Can be the reason. Remove partitions.. format your complete sdcard in fat32.
Even if you dont have partitions.. do it.
Were you using any app2sd type script??

HELP! S3 touchscreen not responding.

Since yesterday I am facing this problem.
Last evening the touchscreen of my phone just stopped responding. It happened so: all of the sudden the touch wouldn't respond. Pressing the power button to switch of the screen for sleep mode was not happening. The last thing I had done was pull down the notification bar so that so it was stuck there. I pressed and held the power button to restart and it worked fine. After a few hours again it happened. Restarted again. Worked. But now everytime its happening. It stops responding. I restart then it works for 2-3 minutes and stops responding and again Ihave to restart and again it stops after a couple of minutes.
I tried going into recovery mode and download mode and it enter and it charges properly also.
Also, last night I switched the phone off and I left it on charge annotd today morning when I switched it on the problem is still there.
please help me out
My galaxy s3 is rooted and its running on stock rom 4.1.2 and siryah kernel.
Is it a hardware problem or software? What can be done?
Another thing just happened now. It stopped responding while I was watching a video on youtube. The screen didnt respond but the video was working and after a while the video stopped but the audio was still playing!

Its not 4.2 It's 4.1.2 Using the official one. And I have been using the siyah kernel for over a month now. Never seemed to cause a problem and never updated anything.
And no I didnt take out the battery. I just kept it switched off. Anyway I will do that too now.

Okay....so you did nothing? Perhaps you're stressing the cpu/gpu too much and kernel does not totally support 4.2.x yet....try flashing perseus kernel also, it cant hurt...

Should I flash stock firmwire then try rooting it again and then flash the kernel?
The thing is I used to use my phone while on charge. A friend says the circuits must have gone haywire but this doesn't seems like a hardware problem.

If u use your phone while on charge that only harms the battery (it will make it last less...but it is inevitable anyways who dooesnt use phone whike on charge)...
What would be the very best option would be to factory reset through recovery (u have clockworkmod right?) (U can save apps with titanium backup) and flash a new rom and THEN a new kernel.
If you flash foxhound it comes with kernel already backed.
BUT before doing this (nobody likes to start off fresh) just try flashing another kernel first(or try and get an updated version of siyah kernel, maybe you got the s2 variant, which has a higher build version than the s3, making it look obsolete).

Pull the battery or use thr Power Off button in TWRP. Then put your micro Sd card in your laptop and drag and drop the rom. Then put it back in your card and go.
You are supposed to check the MD5sum EVERY SINGLE TIME! If you arent going to check the MD5sum then you don't need to flash any roms to your phone, you can seriously mess up and hard brick your phone.

Usually they will have a fake card in them to keep the slot from getting dust in it. If you truly don't have one you can pick up a USB SD card reader from walmart for cheap. If you want dont want to go that route then ADB would probably be the fastest way of doing it.

That's always been my experience also but recall quite a few help threads that started with someone flashing a rom and then the phone hard bricking upon reboot. Every single time in those threads where all that had been done was a simple rom flash the only thing we could come up with was the MD5 was bad and every time it was checked it was bad. If I recall it was only 2 roms doing that and both were AOSP roms. I dont know why but that was always what it was traced back to with those 2 certain roms and no one could figure out why it wasn't simply failing instead of flashing and hard bricking the phone.

We're also going off what they say in the thread. We can't prove that is what did it. I'm trying to be nice, but most of those "oh shhh" panic threads are due to user error.
I've flashed so many ROMs over the years and I never check MD5. I also religiously dirty-flash. I've bricked phones half-asleep (putting my kid to sleep) and recovered them in the morning. It all boils down to the user. I'm not saying for people to be reckless, but blaming not checking an MD5 on a brick is fear-mongering.
If it doesn't flash the first time? Check to see if your recovery has an update. Redownload ROM. Try again. Fail twice? Wasn't meant to be, this is not the ROM you are looking for.

Agreed, as that would be the easiest fix. Worst case scenario for this approach is that you may need to buy a usb reader for micro sd cards.

Very true, I was just going off of my experience in the S3 threads and that was my first true experience with a truly bootloader unlocked phone, even though I had been flashing Motorola phones for years but that isn't the same, and from what me and a couple other people could put together on the S3 forums was that 2 AOSP roms were responsible for the hard bricks.
Like you said though it is very hard to tell if they even flashed the rom. Hell it could be that they were just lying because they were embarrassed. Nonetheless it is still for the best for people to check MD5s especially on radios and recoveries and it doesn't hurt to check it on roms. I check the MD5 of every rom that I flash or that I plan on flashing in the future just because of that happening in the S3 forums when I was helping there.
I had never really thought about them lying about it but that is a definite possibility..... It's still funny that it was one of 2 AOSP roms every time someone claimed to get bricked after only flashing a rom......

[Q] How to apply fix for SGS3 'sudden death'

I have just posted a couple of hours ago asking why my new Cyanogenmod 10.2 rom would be freezing, and I think the problem is to do with my eMMC chip. I have one that suffers from the 'sudden death' problem.. So I've posted this in a new thread as it's kinda a different question..
Anyway, Samsung have released a fix, but I can't find any instructions ANYWHERE on how to apply it.
I've found this on the cyanogenmod wiki http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/EMMC_Bugs, but that simply links me to a github repo of the code, with no instructions on how to apply the fix.
Could someone direct me to some instructions, or talk me through how to apply the fix?
Thanks,
Luke
Firstly, Title is misleading. Second. Its not the sudden death chip tat gives u lag. I have the sds chip too and when I ran cm 10.2 I have NO LAG.

It's hard to say exactly when, but it was after having my phone sent off.. I had found that a way to fix it was to reduce the amount of free space on my internal sd card, so I got a dummy file generator app, that nearly filled the sd card, which seemed to stop the problem.. However I am not able to do that now, because the phone freezes before I'm able to search the play store..
I would ring optus (my phone carrier), however now that I've flashed a custom rom, my warranty is void, so they're not going to do anything to help me..

I don't think they will be interested in that though, as I've rooted the phone, and installed a custom rom.. Also, I've had the phone for over 12 months..

Ok cool, I will have a look at that..
I managed to get into the play store and download the eMMC Brickbug Check app, and it's telling me that it's still a problem, so Cyanogenmod 10.2 doesn't have the fix incorporated into it..
I would still like to find how to apply this kernel patch, as I reckon it will definitely help..
CM 10.2 does indeed have the fix incorporated, the checker only checks if you have the chip that's affected and nothing more. It will not tell you if you have a fix applied

I see.. Then that's a bit more concerning that my phone is still freezing. It doesn't do it as much now though, it seems to have 'settled', and now only freezes every now and then.. But if the fix has been applied, I don't see a reason why my phone would freeze at all :/
