Just flash Philz recovery , copy supernexus+gapps to sd card and wipe data/factory reset (thru recovery) then install from SD card , the whole process takes less than 5 mins

Philz recovery imho is the best. If SuperNexus needs you to avoid a certain recovery, I would suggest perhaps that SuperNexus needs to be avoided instead
Edit> I cant see the first page of that thread saying anything about Philz. Link to post please.

Eh 1st page in red writing just after the screenshots,i can't post links yet,and i'm sure the dev would be happy that you are suggesting to avoid his rom.
Ive run that rom on a S2 for months not one problem, only recently moved to S3 to find out it has issues with sod and such like i'm just trying to be safe and not kill the phone.
Choice use the rom and follow the devs instructions .
Use Philz and ignore the instructions.
Use Philz with a different rom .

I don't care. If a dev suggests you avoid the work of another dev, I believe this makes him fair game for me to suggest avoiding his work. Although I am yet to see any proof that he does suggest avoiding Philz recovery anyway

Just checked the link and you are correct no mention to avoid,on the S2 thread it mentions can have problems when flashing aosp roms, not just specific to supernexus.
Anyway thanks for your time and help on this matter.
OK. Philz is a great recovery. Its subjective, but to my mind - the best

Hi guys
I tried to root my cousins sgs2, i tried the odin method where you flash the cf-root kernel which is the same as the one which your phone is already running, but it keeps failing :S hes on ics through kies, his kernel version is [email protected] 151 #3. model number is GT-I9100 and the android version is 4.0.3.
like i said this did not work, its the official Tmobile UK ICS update i think, and it kept failing. i then tried the root method without kernel it flashed CWM but it kept resetting every time i tried to choose 'flash zip from internal sd card' :S
i would say im pretty experiened with android rooting, ive owned a t mobile pulse, SGS1, and ive also flashed my friends HTC DesireHD all successfully
Anyone have any suggestions? or could i downgrade his firmware back to gingerbread then root that way?
thanks
When you say resetting, what does that mean.
Because when you get that touch cwm, you have to flash the busy box installer, and after that you are rooted. But you don't have cwm left for further use.

Why dont you use superoneclick? I used it and it worked and its easier.

Hi thanks for the responses guys. To clarify a little bit o attempted the cf kernel method via odin bit it kept failing even.with both varieties of the correct kernel. I then attempted to do the recovery mode root whereby i flashed CWM which worked but when i scrolled down to flash a zip sd the power button would not select the.option. And every 3-5 seconds the CWM would return back to the start screen of CWM recovery in a loop every 3-5 seconds, so i was unable to flash superuser and busybox
The final option i believe is to try superoneclick but apparently it does not work for ics :/

its noted that on both LPB kernels there are problems .
In which case i would try LP7 .
Or flash a different Samsung stock rom to LPB .

i would say im pretty experiened with android rooting!
The way you're trying to root your cousins phone using CWM & SU.zip is just fine, "BUT" the reason your power button isn't selecting your zip files from your sd -card & keeps resettling CWM, is because that particular temporary CWM recovery is "TOUCH" & not BUTTON control! Try using your finger on the screen to select stuff rather than the volume & power bottons! & lastly, don't forget to put your CWM.zip & SU.zip files on an External SD-CARD & not your internal, otherwise CWM won't see them on your internal & it won't work

I download LCD Modder from the market to change my screen resolution to play Tap tap and of course I really [email protected]#$% Up. I CAN access download mode but I cannot access recovery mode. Is there a way to restore everything back to normal via odin I believe?

Strange that you cannot access recovery. It should work. However, as a last resort you can flash a stock build using ODIN and then wipe data off
just flash cf root and recovery again should reinstate it with Odin, then you won't lose anything hopefully

I should have said that everytime when I boot up my phone it goes into a black screen. Unless I go into download mode, which in my case still works. So I just flash a stock rom using odin?
Flashing a stock Rom will fix it too, but back everything up as you will lose it all, but if you were rooted then just flash the cf root in Odin, that will give you your recovery image back (remember on the s3 recovery image is separate to kernel)

I think all you need to do (if you haven't solved it yet) is to get into recovery mode by pushing volume up + home + power, is a common issue after flashing... once you get there, perform a wipe cache, and wipe/factory reset, and you should good to go

No need to do that. Just flash Siyah v4 (.tar) via ODIN (I use ODIN3 v1.85) in PDA section. This will give you root, CWM manager app and CWM recovery. This is the single best way to prep your phone for root and custom roms etc.
Its also customary (and tbh common sense) to provide relevant information like your current rom version as this can help in sometimes the supply of more accurate info/steps and saves time.

1) Downloaded the latest nightly (cm10.1), odin3, GS3 usb drivers installed, and siyah (.tar)...
2) backupd all my contacts and messages,
3) put the phone in download mode.. connect usb,.. flash siyah kernel via odin.,
4) remove usb cable, put the phone in recovery mode.,
5) do a wipe, clear cache, system reset(internal)..,
6) install zip from sd .. flash the cm10 nightly, then again the gapps.
7) reboot.
am i going correct?? should i proceed.
besides if someone would let me know their views on cm10.1 , as its mentioned tha " graphics: bad performance, lags " is that something really to be botherd about..?

Thanks, atleast answer this, is the chainfire root v6.4 safe from sudden death issue,..? i really screwd my s2 last time due to that bug and dont want s3 to share the same fate.. little help would be appreciated.
You are better using auto root and then flashing a recovery like Phil's that includes the fix, but I'm not sure if Chainfire updated the old cf root, if he did then it should be fine, check his thread to see if he updated it with the fix

see .. if i flash siyah.. i get root + recovery.. and after flashing cyanogenmod 10.1 the kernel would be replaced by cm kernel, which is free from that issue ( acc to some thread),and i guess siyah's recovery is protected as he has mentioned it in the changelog..

2) BASEBAND VERSION-I9300DDEMG2
3) KERNEL VERSION-3.0.31-1292854 [email protected]*1
4) BUILD NUMBER-JZ054K.I9300XXEMG5
I've recently roote my phone via odin and have the latest CWM recovery installed
My questions are:-
1) while downloading roms should i go for roms which are based on my android version ie 4.1.2 or can i flash any roms based on any android version?
2) Which GAPPS are available for SGS3GT I9300? should i go for GAPPS for my android version 4.1.2 or any GAPPS?
3) I today tried to flash AVATAR rom "avatar-nightly_3.1-636-20130823-NIGHTLY-i9300" and gapps-jb-20121011-signed and followed the entire procedure of wiping dalvik cache and all but on rebooting got a message that AVATAR ROM HAS DETECTED A CRASH and SET WIZARD HAS FAILED.Please tell me what did i do wrong?
Thanks to so many tutorials by xda members i had already backed up my previous rom so i'm safe but i want to flash a new rom, kindly help

Ask in the roms thread but usual is user not following the instructions .
Which GAPPS are available for SGS3GT I9300? should i go for GAPPS for my android version
GApps are for specific roms not something you flash unless instructed to .
Again you are sadly lacking in basic understanding . To avoid bricking your phone read and understand the faqs and guides first .
