AT&T HTC One - Warranty transferable? (Blown speakers) - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I bought a "like new" HTC One off of eBay. At first it seemed great and really did look like new.
Unfortunately I've come to realize the speakers are blown. Any audio above 50% volume crackles/buzzes. Sounds HORRIBLE at 90% volume +
Does anyone know if HTC or AT&T will cover their phones under warranty if you're not the original owner? I know with Apple the warranty is tied to the phone, I could buy a iPhone 5 off of eBay today, and if next week it starts acting up I could take it into Apple and they would replace it.
I contacted HTC support and at first of course they said "lets see if its a software problem, reset the phone blah blah" did the factory reset and of course it didn't help. Even when the phone boots up the AT&T jingle is distorted and buzzes. I told them the factory reset didn't fix the problem and the reply I got was something like:
"We are always updating the software to fix bugs. Be on the lookout for updates for your device to see if it fixes your problem."
...so a software update is going to magically repair the hardware of the speakers? Awesome. Anyway, even if they do ask me to send it in for repair do you guys know if it would be covered under warranty since I'm not the original owner?
Or would I be able to walk into AT&T and ask them to repair or replace it? Thanks.

Just call ATT, Tell them the speakers are not working. You have done a hard reset and they still dont work.
Say nothing more. And nothing less. Pay the 15 bucks for 2 day shipping.

I got mine off Ebay as well.. Did they check the s/n, imei, or need a receipt?

I would also like an answer. I bought a used htc one recently and the top speaker is crackling like mad when the volume is about 3/4 the way up.
I know the phone has a one year warranty through htc. Anybody have any luck getting a replacement from htc or at&t?
Does the warranty transfer over to a second owner?
thanks!

Speakers are defective but screen has small crack? Warranty valid?
My phone has the same issue, but it has a very small crack on the screen.
Is the Warranty still valid? Is it true that if the screen is cracked the warranty is invalid?

I have my HTC One for a few months and the motherboard crapped out. I'm on the ATT Go phone plan, would I be able to call ATT and request a replacement as well?

I'm curious how you made out...did they replace the phone?

I literally just got off the phone with att. They did want to do a reset, but I told them I already did that. The lady, asked how I did it. So say you went into backup/restore. And tried restoring that way. She also asked about the water sensor under the phones flash. If there was any red in it. After that it was address verification, and telling me I'm the best part of att. No 15$ fee, no nothing.

As the title states, I discovered one red pixel. I hate it. So I'm looking for suggestions to get this repaired.
I'm trying software solutions for now. But can someone recommended a reputable service company that could repair/replace the screen?
I'm good with that sort of stuff and wouldn't mind repairing or replacing the screen myself.
Please and thank you! I found this discovery to be quite devastating and am the type to do whatever it takes to get the device to where I want. Thanks, again.

Damn that sucks lol I'm ocd when it comes to a dead pixle or lint on a screen protector . There is a guide on here to replace ur screen also ebay has new screens pretty cheap . You also could have Sprint fix it if you bring your own part maybe . I would do it my self if I didn't have insurance on it.
you might be able to find an app or video that flashes a bunch of colors a lot, I did that with an ipod that had a stuck pixel and it fixed it for me
I know I fixed one on a monitor by putting pressure wth my finger and turning the monitor off and on. Not sure if the touch screen stops that front being a solution.

If you are going to send it to the insurance anyway, get everything you want out, then crack it.... i mean literally just drop it till the screen brakes, then take it to the insurance for a cracked screen, or sink it! ...not prove it was ever rooted!...it might work...what you think?

Worked for my evo 4g...I stuck it in a cup of water... Then turned it on and put it in the freezer
If you want to do it the "free" way pull battery... Insert into microwave for 10th seconds... And try to turn it on.... If it doesn't turn on go to sprint and say "it got warm on the charger and won't turn on"
If it does turn on try the microwave again (not long enough to melt anything just enough to fry the motherboard)
*note*
People have been doing this since the G1 days and has worked for people...don't blame me if it doesn't tho

You get a new phone from insurance.
If you got the phone within the past 14 days, they will swap it out for you with a new one free of charge.
You can also return it and get another phone like the ET4G.
If it's been over 14 days but within 30 days, you can still get the Sprint TEP insurance which replaces it with a new one. Pull battery during a flash and then it won't boot up. Give it to them and tell them it stopped working. They will replace it with a new one.
Even if it's been over 30 days, you can call and (politely) complain about how you bought the phone new and it had a dead pixel. They will send you a new one free of charge (you will have to send yours back but they will send you a new one)
These will all work with an unlocked bootloader since they don't check. If you want to be more safe, you can run 'fastboot oem lock' in a terminal while in bootloader, but it will say ***RELOCKED*** at the top and you won't be able to unlock it again.
That is called insurance fraud and is illegal .

Once you take the phone out of the box and turn it on, it is "used". Not sure why people feel they are entitled to a brand new phone to replace a used one. Sprint will give you a new one under warranty for the first 30 days if you have problems. Otherwise, you get a refurbished one to replace your used one.
You get a new phone from insurance.

No you don't. 80% of the time you will get a refurbished one.

Once again insurance fraud is illegal.
If the OP has had the phone less than a year, a dead pixel is covered by the factory warranty through sprint. Just unroot and take into a corporate sprint store, they will either fix the screen, or give you a replacement for free. Insurance is not needed if you are within one year from the purchase date. Insurance is only for losing/breaking/stealing your phone.
These will all work with an unlocked bootloader since they don't check.

Every corporate sprint location will check if your device is rooted. If it is, they will just ask you to unroot it, so he might as well just unroot before going in.
Thanks to a few of you.

Insurance

Does any one know how long after buying can we still add Insurance?
I dropped mine yesterday and the screen is just black and there is a very miniscule crack at the bottom right corner. The screen doesn't turn on though so I am stuck. I bought mine on June 23rd and received it on June 25th.
I had it in an Incepio case but it obviusly didn't help, it was first time I ever dropped it. It wasn't even that bad of a drop just from table to floor.
I am wondering if I can add insurance and get it replaced after that.

Assuming you mean insurance (warranty is something you get for free and doesn't cover this sort of problem)... Whatever the duration is, I'm sure you're still within the window. But they probably will need to see the device first, since you would probably not be the first person to break their phone within that window. Verizon is a bunch of morons, but when it comes to money-making, they're not going to people do that.
I think your best bet would probably be to try to get third-party insurance, like what is offered by SquareTrade... http://www.squaretrade.com/android-landing1.
Keep in mind, whichever insurance you have, you'll still have to pay a deductible to get a new phone (or get your phone fixed). For squaretrade, it's $99.
EDIT: Ensquared seems to have a cheaper option. Both the up-front cost of the plan as well as the deductible are less expensive: http://www.ensquared.com/catalog/phone-insurance/1-year-phone-insurance-smartphone

I even asked if it would be refurbished or not and lade at Assurion said most likely new since it is so new. Now i have to wait and see.

ALL WIND MOBILE USER - Get in here

Sent my phone for repair since they don't replace phones on the spot anymore.
Been at repair for 1-2 weeks. Stock ROM
Get a call today saying that a repair would be ~$600, and if I didn't want a repair, that I'd have to pay a mandatory $25 fee just for the analysis since "the software is different" and the mainboard was tampered because apparently I opened it up and played with it. Wtf do I do? This is ****ing ridiculous?
I've never opened up my phone EVER... this just put me in the worst mood. The headphone jack not working was obviously because the headphone jack is broken from not being able to put up with constant usage, not because I tampered with it.
EDIT: I will never purchase another phone from WIND, and will probably cancel my plan with them once I finish off my Tab. Rogers may charge you more per month but all my family members have had warranty issues dealt with immediately and without this kind of bull****
post this in the Howard Forums, you will get more responses there.
Did you ***** them out? I've found *****ing fixes 99.9% of problems between you and big business.
That's terrible though, good luck with that
That effing sucks big time. A close friend of mine sent his WIND Mobile Amaze for repairs to an HTC Authorized service center and had it fixed within two days. I'm planning on doing that instead of giving it to WIND considering the BS you're dealing with now.
I also recommend you post this exact thing on HowardForums or on the MobileSyrup forums for more attention. Good luck.

Hey, I am in the same boat as you, sent my amaze in on the tuesday after Thanksgiving just got it back on Nov 2nd , 3 weeks.
Same excuse I was given as you - off warrenty mainboard tampered etc. 600.00 to fix my phone yea right, the phone wasnt even that much when I got it. I was on stock rom, s-on not rooted. The 25.00 fee was waved cause I wasnt going to pay it and my full 80.00 was refunded.
Now I have an electronic brick and I swear I am done with Wind and HTC I will never get an HTC phone again Samsung all the way for me. I wont ever get a device from Wind they dont even have a phone protection plan for situatuions like this. Not to mention the bluetooth on the Amaze is beyond terrible HTC should recall this phone.
It just gets me though that I got the same excuse as you did mainboard tampered etc.
It is like they don't know what is wrong with the phone so they pull an excuse outta there ... so they dont have to replace it.
I have to agree I am gonna call and make a fuss I refuse to have this tab either they wipe it or replace my phone. When I was with Rogers my device was delt with even off warrenty and that was when I did root it. Rogers may charge more but hey I guess the saying is right you get what you pay for, lesson learned!

I am getting the run around big time.
At the store I was told "we are just the middle man" call customer service and ask for retention.
I call, the person who answers, as we have come to expect from Wind does not speak English very well and
also has absolutely no idea what anything is. They have no business working in customer service.
I asked to speak to retention I am told oh sorry I can not transfer you to retention unless you are going to cancel your
service. I asked to speak to supervisor and I was hung up on 3 times, never got a supervisor on the line.
I absolutely officially HATE HATE HATE Wind mobile.
I went to a different Wind store to ask them to call for me and I am told oh
you have to go to the warranty store you went to and they can help you, even though the person at the warranty store told me "we are just the middle man" so again worthless Wind employees. I am just very frustrated and pissed off.
I didn't pay the $25 fee because I said no, 3 weeks and it isn't fixed and you think I am gonna pay, nope.
So it was waved.
My next and last step is to speak to the store again and have them call (as I wait) who ever needs to be called so I can file a complaint.
I know I didn't break my phone and I am not gonna be stuck with a tab for it.
Go make friends at a corporate service store.. My guys in oshawa mall have been great!

[Q] Sprint phone replacement without insurance?

Lately my phone has been having what seems to be a hardware problem. The microphone barely works anymore. When talking on the phone, people are always telling me they can barely hear me, it sounds like I'm really far away, etc, even though I'm practically yelling into the phone. Sometimes it works fine and other times it won't pick up my voice at all. Also it cuts in and out in the middle of conversations.
To rule out the possibility of a software issue, I've tried the following:
Flash MeanROM, problem still persists
Flash CM10, problem still persists
Updated HBOOT to 1.19 (S-OFF) and RUU, problem still persits
Thus, I have concluded that it's a hardware issue with the microphone. The phone is only six months old, and the problem/defect has appeared through no fault of my own (always kept in case, never abused, never got wet). Yesterday, I took it to a local Sprint store to see if they would give me a replacement, and being that I do *not* have insurance on this phone, the employee wanted to charge me $35 to look at the phone and then maybe issue me a refurb if they did not find any sign of water damage, etc.
What experiences have others had regarding defective phones and no insurance? Threads on other forums suggest that some have gotten free replacements while others did not. What's Sprint's official policy on this? I do not think I should be held responsible for any fees considering it's a hardware defect. The employee said I can send the phone directly to HTC for the manufacturer warranty but it would take 15-20 days that I'd be phoneless, and my phone is S-OFF, so I'm a little hesitant about doing that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I think sprints "official" policy would be no insurance=no replacement. Since it is rooted I would imagine your bootloader is unlocked which means u voided your warranty with HTC. My suggestion is it doesn't hurt to try but don't get pissed at sprint if u don't get it.
One workaround would be to get another phone and activate it online chat and ask to get insurance on it. Once u do that wait a day or two and swap back to your evo. The insurance will stay on the line. Then u can take it in and get it looked at for free if it is a hardware defect u should het a free replacement

You had the option for Warranty replacement but that could (not sure) very well be gone if you used their unlocking tool & S-OFF.

Can I make it S-ON again? I assume HTC would still be able to detect that I had done this, am I right?
That's a possibility, I'd make the effort to do so. Flash a fully stock Rom (RUU) before it goes back. If it fails, the worse that can happen is that they send it back.
Just be sure to photograph quality photos of the phone (front, back, sides & top) before packaging & sending it off when dealing with warranty exchanges.

Theyll fix ur phone for 35$ if they detect wayer damage, but if they see your phone is rooted they wont fix it, and give ur phone back to you a.s.a.p

Just flash it all back to stock, and take it in. Sprint provides the 1 year warranty. So they will check it out, if it fails for them you'll get a refurb. Don't need insurance for factory defect.

Right now it is back to stock, but the bootloader is still unlocked. I used the utility to make the bootloader look "stock" though, as it says *** LOCKED *** and S-ON however it is really S-OFF. A Sprint employee may not notice this but an HTC tech certainly will. Anyways, the sprint employee must have been misinformed or something. They said I would need to go through the manufacturer for the warranty and not Sprint. I'm going to go back and try to talk to a different employee and see if I can get a different result. Thanks.
What your looking at is the $35 service fee that Sprint charges you. Its basically a convince fee to save you the time of not having to deal with the manufacturer.
Id take advantage of the "advanced exchange program" pay the 35 bucks and take a refurb device. I did this last month. My original unit had a very loose headset jack.
I paid the 35 bucks and got a replacement. 4 days into the replacement the RF died on it. No signal what so ever. Took it back and they immediately replaced that too. BUT i lucked out. They only had white refurbs in stock. I said Nope. mine is black i want black. So i got a new in box unit. That normally isnt the case but with the 35 dollar refurb units, they still warranty that for 30 days..
after that its back to another 35 bucks for a replacement. I think its fair, afterall your not returning a brand new phone to them. Its a device thats been used and in your case rooted and flashed a few times.
I also think there could be gunk or something in the mic port. Wonder if they checked that.
Did you try to use a wired headset to see if that corrected the issue. If so then its definitely a mic issue.
Anyway, the 35 bucks is for the convinces of not having to wait while HTC works on it..

AT&T HTC One warranty claim = $200+ free....

So... hear me out haha. This is all based on what they told me on the phone but they may tell you something else if you call them.
If you have a 32gb HTC One and file a warranty claim (you get one year free of it through AT&T), they will send you a "like new" device for free, then you have to send yours back to them within ten days.
What they told me on the phone though when I talked to them was that if I don't send my phone back, I have to pay them $210 for my "defective" unit. In reality, the only defect my unit has is that the battery doesn't last all day, I only get about 10 hours out of it.
If you don't want to send them the phone you have back, just keep it and take the charge, then sell your phone or the phone they send you on eBay for $500 and you're pocketing almost $300...
I will say again, I only heard them mention the $210 fee and didn't ask at all about that. If you currently have a HTC One on AT&T and you're having some problems maybe with it, try this out and see if it works.
Thought I would let you guys know. Don't hate haha.
In just guessing but that may result in a bad ESN or what ever it's called for not sending it in??? Maybe not idk but seems like they would be smarter than that...

i honestly don't know. personally, i'm sending mine back cause i can't afford losing a potential $200, but if anyone is having troubles with their device and can risk it, go for it.
NOTE: i did not tell you guys this for anyone to try to scam att... they aren't losing any money in this if it works. just thought i would let you all know. thanks.
I stop reading when you said your only problem is "the battery doesn't last all day"

You would be charged the full value, ie $599.99, if you don't return it. He/she gave you bad information.
Either way this is super fraud no matter how you look at it

They black list the device that doesn't get sent back for this exact reason.

I was told that my warranty exchange would cost $609 if I didn't return it. I got a 64GB One. $200 sounds like an insurance claim. Regardless, it's definitely fraud.

Exactly what sliderocket said, $609 was what I was told as well, the rep even stated that it was the most expensive he had ever seen. 64 GB as well.
Exchanging my 32gb, and it's $545 if I don't send current model back
I was told full price on my Nokia, but my one was bought new off ebay for $450...... So warranty is invalid..
Yea you were definitely given bad info. Fraud aspect aside, they have always charged around full retail for any warranty claim device that isn't returned within 10 days.

That's not fraud if your phone is really broken. If they instruct you to send it back when you receive your replacement or pay $200 then you have the option of sending it back or paying $200. However, it would be fraud if your phone works perfectly fine and you are trying to get a replacement you aren't entitled to just to sell your working phone.
Anyone using an AT&T One on a different network able to get a warranty exchange from AT&T? It was bought third party via CL and the Mic doesn't work in calls (but works on speakerphone during calls...Any idea there?).

You'll have a hard time if you don't have an AT&T account. Might want to go through HTC directly.
