[Q] From CM10.1 To CM 9 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
What is the easy way to come back from CM10.1 to CM9?
Is there a way to do it without full wipe/factory reset?
Thanks

The battery life was insane with cm9, the only reason I use jellybean is because of Google now and to a lesser extent the new improvements in how it handles notification. I do not care for daydream and project butter

Yes man Go ahead, franco's kernal is the best.. no issues, as always do a nand backup in case anything goes wrong
one of the best kernel ,have u installed custom recovery ..

Yes there would be an option once you start to install the kernel
After flashing recovery with rommanger,You have to boot into recovery, There are options in the list for wiping cache and battery status.

thanks guys flashed successfully first kernel on my phone now where can i find oveclock settings???
Wipe cache & dalvik cache from custom recovery and then flash kernel. That's all.
For battery stats:
- charge your phone
- when it's fully charged keep the charger plugged and boot into recovery
- with the charger still plugged wipe battery stats and reboot
- pull out your charger only after the system boots completly
To overclock install SetCPU (find it on the forum)

Charge your cell to 100% then clear battery stats ,that will give you more power i think ,or try battery calibrator ,it also does the same thing.

I tried wiping battery status before and after ROM install..never had any issues with that.
Battery stats have no influence whatsoever on phone crashes

Just wipe the battery when 100%
its just a standard thing.. If you don't believe us.
Don't blame the dev and us for making your battery died faster.

Switching from CN to CM9
I am running CN ICS v3 and want to flash CM9 A2. Can I just wipe dalvik, cache and factory reset and flash the zip from CWM or do I have to do a complete uninstall and then install because of the different kernals? Thanks

I think you can just CWM the new CM9 A2 over your current ICS install. It will overwrite your current kernel.
Just make sure you do full wipe, cache and Dalvik cache wipe before you do the flash within CWM.
I just flashed mine from CM9 A.6 and so far so good... Have not tested the Netflix but it seems nice so far and no SODs for the last 4 hours since the flash... I hope never but will see...

Did you have Classicnerd loaded? I heard that if you don't do an uninstall it will leave parts of the kernal. I was hoping to do a very good wipe, wipe, wipe and wipe... and wipe some more. Or I can wait for CN to catch up. I do like Leo and the gang.
Thanks for your help.

I just did
Wipe factory data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache each twice. Reboot. Wipe again. Then flash
Do not restore data inky case, YouTube does not work when I tried to restore from CWM. Restore from TB selectively.
Sound seems to be broken. I get no sound from keyboard and the volume rocker cannot control volume. The volume is either mute or maximum.

Never mind, a reboot fix the sound problem.

Do a full wipe then flash uImage remover zip found on classic nerd site, under ics betas folder, then flash cm9 and gapps.
That is exactly what I did and it works great. I wiped three time of each Dalvik, cache and factory reset, flashed the moboot kernal remover, flashed CM9 v2, gapps and rebooted. Went very smooth. From what I understand is that if you don't get rid if the old kernals and you flash over them they cause problems and that is why you flash the moboot kernal remover.
After I logged in I used TB to reinstall my apps and all is well. Very well. The CM team did an outstanding job.
Thank you all for your advice.

[Q] Help...

Hi,
I tried to port a Sense "Zero" ROM to my ACE, and hard bricked it.
Those at Samsung changed the motherboard for mine for FREE (My dad took it to service and he didn't tell the staff there that it was rooted so warranty not "voided" yet)
Now here's the situation.
Before bricking the ACE, I can normally flash ICS roms without wiping data/factory reset when finished flashing it.
But after that, I have trouble .For example, the CM9 Galaxyics by Maclaw's team Rom. I need to do a wipe after flashing to boot it normally. But for AOKP, it got stuck at whitescreen practically FOREVER.(I wiped already). Should I try to flash a new bootloader and stock ROM from sammobile.com again or do something else?
Thx for ur advice.
Hopefully I don't need to buy a new one, or fix my HTC Desire's motherboard which keeps rebooting after 5 mins and cost about $150
why dont u go to download and install fresh firmware, sorry if i mistaken
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
Hey .. before u flash the AOKP rom must do reset factory data, wipe cache n also dalvik cache .. After u flash the rom, u need to do reset factory, wipe cache n wipe dalvik cache again . AOKP has different way to install
The Desire reboot problem.....ahh good times
Ace-ing all tests.

Downgrade from cm10 to cm9

I install twrp which did not work well, i would do a backup but could not load any of them. So went back to cwm. I wanted to go back to cm9 cause cm10 is just not good for a daily tab, i don't get the reboots anymore but the battery life is worse then my cell phone! I tried doing a clean install of cm9 and it gets stuck on the boot animation....i tried a few time doing different wipes, ect with no luck....anyone else had this problem or and thoughts? Thanks
Sent from my SH-06DNERV using xda premium
Which boot animation are you getting stuck with and is it bootlooping? It could possibly be kernel related.
cyanogen Cm9 (tried all versions) boot animation, just keeps going as if everything is fine but never stops. If i then load any version of nt cm10 it boots like normal. I read some other cm10 related forums about batt drain and said change cpu to hotplug. I tried on the nt and i no longer have bad batt drain. So maybe i can stay on cm10 but would still like to know why i can't go back? Also reboot to recovery doesn't work, have to get in cyanoboot to enter recovery.
Thanks for the response

How long are you waiting at the boot animation? The first boot can take a pretty long time.

That's what I was getting at, to try a new kernel.
Full wipe/factory reset won't touch your microSD card contents or your /mnt/media data.

Haha yikes.
I let it sit 20 the last time I tried just to be super safe and sure it was not working. Now that the battery drain and sod issues have been fixed I am quite happy with cm10.....hotplug was the key!

Can't flash ROM past 4.1.2

I'm pretty sure flashing a stock ROM will fix this but as my download of the huge stock ROM failed after over an hour I thought I would ask.
So I have been running stock CM10.1 for a long time and thought I would update to kitkat, really want to try ART.
But any ROM I flash that is over 4.1.2 does not boot, tried twrp and clockwork. Done a complete format from recovery of all partitions, and waited over 5 mins for it to boot first time.
But when I flash CM10.1 phone works fine.... Really annoying me now.
Any ideas before I start downloading the epic Samsung files again?

Try this.
May be it will work
Flash kk compatible kernel first
Don't reboot the system
Boot into recovery
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Format system
Wipe data
Install required zips
Reboot

Humm..... Will try flashing a KK kernel first and see. Didn't think of that, normally there included with roms but it can't hurt thanks!

Bugger also just noticed I put this in S2 not S3! Sorry guys! Still going to try KK kernel first though.
