Hi Guys,
As the title suggests I have replaced my glass on my Galaxy S3 and I am now experiencing a really annoying issue, some of the time I notice (mainly when typing) some of the keys don't react to my touch. It seems mainly the outer edges of the phone which are experiencing the problem, when typing the can usually be 'o,i,l,p' keys.
When I did the job I heated the glass and removed the glue I had a load of residue left on the screen itself, I then used a combination of nail varnish remover and electrical contact spray with cotton buds to get this crap off. Once I was happy it was all gone I laid the new adhesive on the back of the new glass and pressed it down on to the phone, heated gently and tried to make sure the whole thing was stuck down.
Now since this problem is intermittent it makes me think the digitizer may not be damaged (not sure how it would have got damaged, I used a hair dryer) but maybe the fact the glass isn't stuck down enough, especially if the outer keys are lacking sensitivity, maybe the adhesive is raising the glass to high away from the digitizer??
Has anyone else had this problem and if so have you resolved it? If not any suggestions appreciated, I'm tempted to lift the glass again and take the new adhesive sticky back off and try and reuse the original glue to see if this improves responsiveness to touch.
Any help appreciated
Joe

The light of the bottom 4 keys always turned on whenever i touch the screen during the time of reading at night. It made the eyes very uncomfortable. I can not find how to setup to take it off. Is there any way to do so? My rom is gingerbread clone final R2 by Great Eugene.
My English is not good,sorry!
Thank you for any help and comments.
Last night I took my vibration apart to mod the buttons to blue dots, but there's a piece of plastic that holds the mic and other chips glued or pressure fit over the glass from the back. Anyone have any luck accessing the glass? I may take the leap and pry the plastic out when I get some time. Grr.

Thank you very much for the answer, fit333. It looks like that it is not a trouble bothering only me. I believe it could be fixed by some soft setup. I frankly do not dare to pry something out.
Get some electrical tape to cover it during the night time!
Sounds good. It is a rigid, not soft solution.

Firstly, a warm greeting to the xda community for all your wonderful contributions to the push for education about these amazing devices we've come to know as smart phones. Truly learned so much through this site. However, I came to this page not eagerly seeking new info on the latest phone or newfound wisdom on my own, but heartbroken. At only four days old, the beauty of my newly purchased Vibrant has been marred by a small but deep scratch in the middle of the amoled. The means by which the scratch came about are, well, surprising to me even still. Was using the phone night before last, pinched in to zoom on a link while browsing the net. Apparently I had a bit of a hangnail on my thumb which literally dug in and carved out a scratch in the screen in front of my eyes. Now, I've perused this site and others thoroughly looking for a solution & am well aware of the flag-wavers for Corner and their gorilla glass technology. I'm not here to start a war or debase the company, simply looking for a viable solution to a problem which has really impaired use of this new phone outside of replacing the entire screen, something I cannot afford. Thanks in advance to anyone who's taken to time to read this tangent and actually respond, regards
lol a hangnail scratched it? sounds crazy. anyways i read somewhere that it can be polished out. not sure how true that is.
If you have access to a dremel you might be able to polish it out using some sort of scratch remover. You may have to do some digging but a while back another member on here wrote a very detailed thread on removing a scratch. Good luck.
Damn man.. a buddy I work with and I have literally tried to scratch it with keys.. even a friggin razorblade, NO JOKE! A hangnail.. you must be kidding, right? If you aren't, and you bought it legit, make sure it is under warranty and break it in a way that should work. I would be able to break mine happily if a razorblade didn't scratch it, but a hangnail did, lol!
But seriously, this is the first phone I don't have a screenprotector on, and I leave it in my pocket with things that should have tore it up, yet it is still as new looking as the day I got it. Hell, you may be able to return it just because that sounds like a defect.

Heres a link to the thread I was referring to!! Hope it helps!
I was gonna ask why you are posting at 2:30AM but then I saw your name....
Good luck with the scratch.
Can you feel the scratch?
Once I thought I had messed my screen up pretty bad. I saw several light "scratches" and tryed to rub them out thinking maybe they were streaks. Nothing worked, until I put a Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipe to it and they came right out.
I don't use screen protectors, I use my phone every day, it's scratch free. I'm also a guitar player with long nails... just sayin.
Do you have a screen protector?
It really seems unlikely that you scratched the glass with a fingernail.
Are you sure that there isn't a screen protector on, and you scratched that?

Can understand why you'd assume I'm making some obvious misconception. Sadly, no, there was no screen protector on. The scratch is deep, the pixels inside it are reflected, giving a distracting warped look to them against any solid color other than black & it can be felt when running your finger across the screen. Though it seems unlikely, I saw it happen. If anything, hope this thread is another supporting opinion towards putting a screen protector on your phone asap. Gorilla Glass is Not impervious, my phone is physical proof. Thank very much for the suggestions and link, after further research it appears that a dremel, quality glass polish & some elbow grease is the only option I have. Hoping it works!
Please do not polish as someone else suggested.
You will make matters worse, and cause swirl marks, and a complete mess.
JUST LEAVE IT ALONE.
There was a thread somewhere with pics of someone polishing and repairing their scarted screen, it looked scarry. Don't even attempt it.
I have heard of using toothpaste and non abrasive cloth may work. I have lots of scratches on my camera lens, which is worse.
I also have scratches all over the screen (bought mine used on Craigs). This may sound stupid, but I put a screen protector on, and the scratches are harder to see.
Side note - most people with screen protectors on put up with much worse visibility as the protector gets used more. Most of the discomfort with the scratch is mental. Put on a protector and put in your mind it's the protector scratched up, and you will feel better. I know this from experience with the same phone.

Do NOT use toothpaste on your screen. It will only cause more MICRO scratches which will annoy the heck out of you outside in the sun or in bright lighting.
Trust me, I tried that. (But I got a replacement due to a malfunctioning earpiece.)

I opened my Prime to try and improve my wifi, and now there's a gap between the glass and outer shell, right near the power button. When I put it back together, I made sure I started at the top, and worked my way around the rest of the glass. Any suggestions on how Ican get rid of the gap?

Oh, my bad. I thought I did post it in this section. Brain cramp.
You have to make sure the top edge is really snug before closing it up. It has a tendency to open up if not correctly pushed in.
When mine came back from RMA it was like that.
It can also be that the glass is coming away from its backing and the seal slides back and under the glass creating the illusion of a gap. Again this was present when mine returned from RMA. To fix this you need to push the glass back down to force the seal forward and closing up the gap. Then carefully heat the top edge of the screen with a hairdryer or heat gun. I think the ideal temperature is 70c. Then apply pressure to the screen edge until it has cooled. This fixed mine perfectly.

I took a real good look at the clip that's in the spot where it's separated, and it has a crack in it, so that's why it won't clip.
Hi guys, I hope this section is the right one for my kind of question, this would be all hardware issues mostly.
I just replaced a screen for the samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100M, screen is looking good, everything works fine, however, since I did a screen swap from another phone, I did not have any of the double sided glue to, I guess, hold it in place. As of now, my screen is slowly popping out from one corner ever so slightly that I can see light bleeding through the gap it makes with the frame. I just want to confirm is this is only due to just me not having double sided glue alone the back that the screen is placed on. I ordered some d.s tape as I thought it would help me, should be coming later.
Secondly, I noticed that just sometimes the screen wouldn't be as responsive, sometimes touches won't register unless I press just a bit. Would this be because the top glass is a little loose? (due to no tape?). I was wondering if someone can explain to me how the touch inputs actually works. Do you only need to the glass or does the glass have to be close to the LCD for it to register as a touch input. Because if that's the case, then I suppose having the d.s tape can solve all my problems.
Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks a lot. I'm repairing a phone for a friend and its a surprise. : )
Hi Guys,
I have an S3 i9305, that I have replaced the screen (I purchased a complete screen & frame), Geniuine Samsung part where the screen and frame are already bonded together with double side tape. (did this after I cracked my original screen,). IT was pretty easy to replace..
Unfortunately, the double sided tape that attaches the glass screen to the frame is starting to come apart at the home button end.
Does anyone know any way to try and fix this.. its coming apart about 1-2mm, where I keep pushing it back down, but it's lost its stick.
If you've ever repaired one, you would know its practically impossible to remove the screen from the frame without Cracking it.
I've considered dropping a tiny bit of super glue just around the home button.. but worried I might stuff the mic/home button..
Any helpful suggestions on how to repair?
One thing I have just thought of is a case that pushes the screen down / clamps together in two parts that click together (like otterbox etc).. ie, where the case pushes the screen against the body..least this will stop the screen coming away.
Thanks for any help.
