Haven't seen any picture or mention of supporting phones/tablets this big, and I'm worried the extending arms on the lens don't go that far out.
I'm waiting to see what the image quality of these lenses is like, but if it's decent enough, I may sell my Samsung NX20 and lenses for one or both and have some money left over.
Unfortunately, the answer is no, this phone is too wider, xz and xz1 compatible with that camera.

Actually it work with the XZU, but can't be attached on the phone. Just can hope sony make an adaptator for the XZU. It can be use with many android devices (some test show it working on galaxy s3/4 and htc one)

In this youtube review they say that a Note 2 is too wide for the mechanism that attaches the QX10/0 to the smartphone.

Not EXACTLY fitting the discussion here .........
Juts received my DSC-QX100 3 hours ago. Setting it up is just a matter of minutes. Adapter does NOT fit the ZU (but will on Z1 which should be delivered tomorrow).
I will use it mainly professionally (medical recording) and for this - after the first some test pics - this cam is phenomenal.
Actually I wonder if I would attach it at all to a phone since the freedom to position the cam anywhere but still have full control via ZU is a complete new photo-taking experience. I will report more once I have some days of experience .........
( I am NO professional photographer, so my expectancy is to get quickly and easy super-sharp photos for teaching reasons, a superfast autofocus and a perfect zoom to the focus of interest, and so far DSC-QX100 seems to fulfill this task perfectly)

I'm a lil bit worried about the lag due to the wireless connectivity... please post about how long thr delay is..
Also, how much is it and where did you buy it? I'm really interested on this camera.. :sly:
"Sent from my refrigerator"
Sony Xperia Z ultra n Sony QX10
I have both the QX10 and Szu.
The camera can't attach to the phone as the attaching mechanism is not wide enough. I got a small mini tripod on ebay which has the camera on. So I just point and shoot away with the phone. Only nag I have about the camera is lack of manually being able to focus.but the Qx10. Addresses this issue. still the QX10 gets pretty good pictures and the video quality is good as well. If u are the type that makes YouTube videos, I sure recommend this camera. The amount of freedom and flexibility it gives you when you shoot videos is really nice.as being able to set ur phone or tablet down as a viewfinder makes recording a doodle.
Concerning lag on the ZU display:
There is certainly some lag caused by WiFi-transferral as I experienced in my tests yesterday evening, especially when the QX100 is moved very fast. I was afraid that this could harm the photo quality, but this is not the case. When QX100 is held constant there is (almost) no lag.
Pictures are ultrasharp even in very low light ( for tests and for my tasks to take medical pictures I set the QX100 to take pix at max res (20mpx))
I have some test pix (5MB each) taken at very low light at dawn yesterday evening. I attached them as .zips here (original shots)

Yes, the NFC makes it a breeze to startup.

You have to get QX 100 ! QX 10 is just a lens comparable to Z1´s integrated cam ! (which is also VERY impressive, got my Z1 just yesterday evening, still installing apps)
I am hoping Sony will come out with a case for the Z ultra similar to the SPA-ACX1/B for the Z.

Saw several test and the QX10 is above the Z1. You can compare them only for the sensor, but actually the lens is far above Z1 quality and the JPEG compression as well. On the Z1 there is so much JPEG artifacts that doesn't exist with the QX10 and the luminosity gained with the QX10 make pictures look better. For the price of the QX100 I would take a compact Sony camera that give better results than it.

Hey Guys,
I got my Note about 2 weeks ago and have noticed that the camera and pictures are unusually grainy/noisy and the auto focus is subpar which results in blurry pictures. I have messed with the ISO settings changing it to 100 and 200.. which seems to help some, but its still noticeable as well as the settings dont save. I have tried 3rd party apps as well, still the problem persists. I've also compared my camera and photos to a buddy's Sprint Note 2 and his are far superior. My next step is to go to Verizon, but i just wanted to see if anyone else was having issues. I have heard that it could probably be the Drivers and that it might be fixed with an update, hopefully so, because of now, im highly disappointed.
any input or advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh
That doesn't sound right, I get great pics from mine.
Obviously they are not as good as my EOS 1D Canon DSLR but they are amazing for a camera phone IMHO.
Here is a shot I took in a very dimly lit room where I wasn't even sure the pics would come out:
http://s361.beta.photobucket.com/user/jmorton10_photo/media/Camera-ZOOM_zpsbafd9ff2.jpg.html
I took over 100 shots and they all came out great. I printed an 8"x10" pic from this and nobody can believe it's from my phone.
I have used Camera ZoomFX or Camera FV-5 (to save RAW images) in my last 3-4 phones.
it's definitely not right.
to get even a decent picture, i have to manually set the ISO to 100 or 200, then focus (because the auto focus is terrible as well) and then if i move even the slightest, the picture comes out blurry.

You have anti shake on?
Like most phones I find pics pretty bad if im not in bright light...or using flash..
And manually setting the iso at 100 in dark conditions is obviously gonna blur..youre better off using the flash and turning the exposure down a bit

well when setting the ISO to lower levels, Anti Shake is greyed out.
and everything in low light is gonna blur, yeah.. but im talking about all the time. regardless of light. I can get somewhat better pictures when I adjust the settings, but, that is somewhat time consuming when wanting to take a quick picture, especially since it doesnt save the settings I choose.
I am having the same problem. No solution yet.
Is your camera lense dirty? Wipe it with a microfiber cloth or something.
I'm having problems with blurry pictures as well. Seems like the camera is not "fast" enough trying to capture kids who move around while you're trying to take a picture. I've got it set to single shot, highest resolution, auto iso and auto exposure and still get some noisy pics and blurry faces. Not sure what it is....

Yeah exactly. I have the same exact issues.
Could it be a Verizon Note issue?
I just did some testing, seems anti shake adds an enormous amount of noise to images, as does auto contrast.

LOL, no big surprise there.
Some real digital cameras are going to have that problem..
I don't think its the anti shake as I have mine turned off. I have my flash set to off but maybe because the room I'm in isn't bright enough so it's pumping up the iso to capture the shot and thus its grainier..
But I've still notice that it's hard to get a good picture of moving subjects like kids oe dogs as it doesn't seem to focus on the right place or the focus point moves to easily.

These are some of the main reasons people buy DSLRs. NO little dc is going to be fast enough for any kind of action shots.
I have done pro photography for years. When I want to take any kind of action (especially in lower light like you typically find inside your house), I grab my DSLR with a fast lens. That camera will shoot 8 frames per second, all in perfect focus, stops all action and will do it easily in lower light conditions.
The camera phone however works great if you give it half a chance. If you are taking a posed shot (like the one I posted where the girls were not moving) and have enough light (use the flash if necessary) then the phone and its tiny little lens and sensor will give very decent results.
I have been playing with the camera a ton in the last couple days using this app:
http://www.camerafv5.com/
The more I practice with it, the more impressed I am with this device.
If you understand basic photography, FV-5 gives you tons of ways to very quickly/easily make a fast settings change with one fast click to change things like the auto focus point, white balance setting etc to give really outstanding results within the limitations of the actual hardware.
Posters talk about an update like that will magically cure why they can't take a decent picture. No update is going to fix blurry pics when the cause of that is user error (and reading some of these posts it is obvious to me that is the case).
Posters are expecting results that are way beyond the capabilities of a device that is a phone first and also happens to also take snapshots. Expecting it to capture perfectly focused, sharp images of your kid or dog running around the yard is ridiculous. That is the job of a DSLR, even some of the better dedicated DCs will struggle with those kind of shots.
There are two basic settings that apply to any picture taken, F stop (how much light the lens lets in) and shutter speed (how long the shutter stays open while snapping the picture). Both these settings are adjustable on the better quality digital cameras. The faster the shutter speed, the better it is for stopping action. If you shoot at say 1/1000 of a second, you can shoot a clear pic of a race car. On the other hand, 1/15 of a second is so slow that even a slight twitch on the photographers part will result in a blurry image.
With the phone cameras, you don't have the luxury of altering these settings much (if there is any adjustment at all). With the tiny lens of the N2 (or ANY camera phone) you cannot alter the F stop setting at all, it is what's called a fixed aperature and is not adjustable. That only leaves the shutter speed to change to get the correct exposure for any particular shot.
Using Camera FV-5, you can get a small amount of manual control to make that shutter speed faster (better to stop movement) but it doesn't help all that much because if you pick a really fast/short shutter speed the image will usually come out way too dark as it is not letting in enough light to properly expose the image. With a good quality DC, you would open up the F stop more to compensate for this, but you can't do that with the fixed aperature phone camera lens (which is so tiny it doesn't let in much light to begin with)
Camera FV-5 gives you more control than the stock camera app which gives you no control al all, but the tiny lens/sensor etc can only do just so much. I have simplified a lot of this info to make it easier to understand, but the same basic principles apply to any camera all the way back to film cameras.
To take better pics with the N2, try to...
1: hold the camera as still as possible, brace it against something to help with this if possible
2: provide as much light as possible. Either add more ambient light or use the flash (or both)
3: don't expect results that equal a good quality digital camera, the N2 works great for basically posed snapshots etc. If you're trying to shhot your kids Varsity Basketball league or your 2 year old chasing the dog around the back yard get yourself a basic DSLR.
Well for me... I do know how to use a camera.. I've set all the settings, I know basic photography. I know its a phone camera, but my thunderbolt took better pictures than this. To me it seems like a phone issue... NOT a user issue. Thanks for the lesson though. Appreciate it. :good:

I'm hoping so. It really seems more grainy than it should be. I still need to go to Verizon and check another Note 2.

I'm not talking about kids running around but rather them sitting still long a full 2-3s so I can snap a good picture without them moving their head. I don't have problems with my gnex camera at all in the same location. I seem to be having similar focus or grainy images that the op is seeing.

The problem is that your last phone was an htc. Im coming from a Rezound and that camera was way better than this one. Never really even mess with the settings on the Rezound and the pictures always came out crisp and detailed.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here at all, but I don't agree with this.
I still have two Rezounds and I rarely used the cameras because even though I kept reading how awesome the Rezound camera was I was never overly impressed with mine. I recently compared identical shots from one of the Rezounds with my N2. I left both on full auto so it was a fair comparison.
All the shots from the N2 came out perfect while the shots from the Rezound varied considerably. Some of the Rezound shots where too dark and others missed the focus point.
I really think some of you guys may have defective N2s and should go back to verizon and compare yours to another unit to compare results. My N2 is the first phone camera that works so well for me that I don't feel the need to carry an extra small P&S camera with me along with the phone.
I took over 100 shots of a Christmas party for my 12 year old daughters soccer team. I sent them to all the parents of the girls and they are thrilled with the shots. I took them inside where the light was not that great and most other phone cameras would have produced disastrous results. The shots are all perfectly exposed and it only missed the AF point on a couple shots.
The parents have all seen me shooting with my Canon EOS 1D DSLR over the years and naturally assumed that was what I was using to take the shots. When I told them the shots all came from my phone they where astounded. I printed a few 8"x10" shots for some of the parents and they can't believe it was possible to get a shot of that quality from a phone.
One of them told me yesterday they had framed the shot and hung it in their family room. Now, granted I have been doing photography professionally for years and I will always take better pictures in most situations without even thinking about it but I don't think that's the case here. I had my wife take some shots with the note to make sure that it wasn't just me. Her results where not as good as mine, but they where just fine as far as the camera performance.
After using my new Xperia Z Ultra for a full day here's what I think.... (BTW I've come from Note 1 Note 2 and a 10.1 tablet)
Forget all the negative stuff you read, this is a stonking good phone.
Speed - Amazing - No lag and everything opens and runs FAST!
Sound - Very good (most of the time I have it turned down as it's loud)
Screen - Awesome - More natural than the Galaxy screens and much better in direct sunlight (Good for Australia)
Camera - Not so good, I've loaded Camera Zoom fx and the improvement is huge. Close to the Note 2
Battery - Good - Sitting at 25% after 9.5 hours. This is only the first full charge so I'm hoping battery life could get better. Take in to account that being the first use I have been loading apps, updating data plus playing games, vids and a lot of surfing.
All in all I'd give it a 10/10 and it beats the Note 2 hands down, and having had a quick play with a Note 3 I'm glad I went the Sony road.
I don't understand all the negative reviews on this phone unless the reviewers are either Samsung fan boys (and girls) or had pre-production handsets.
Hope this helps anyone who's mot sure which way to go with their next handset purchase.

Well, wait until you run into the bugs (worst is SOD). The screen have yellow tint ( some does, some dont). Not sure about camera quality but the picture saved to compress ( bad quality). Its been out for 2/3 month and still no fix for the bugs. For a "flagship" device Im pretty disapointed.

I agree with the camera being poor comment but then if u wanted an amazing camera u should have gone for the Z1 or other phone with better optics.
This phone is great for speed and quality of build...

reviews are always going to be subjective. They have their likes and dislikes about devices... But I specifically loved how every single review I watched on the Ultra, moaned about how its too big for one handed operation. Thats like reviewing a car and then saying' "but you have to sit down to drive it..."

Coming from a Note, and S4, I really don't miss the OLED screen. I didn't realise how 'over done' Samsung screens were until I saw the ultra.
As far as Sony's updates go, they are still better than other manufacturers. e.g: The octa-core S4 still hasn't got real 8 cores working properly yet. And its been almost 12 months!

The sensor is actually quite good (for a 8mp). Its all about image compression. 1-2 mb per image is pathetic! There is no way a raw camera jpeg can have good quality being that small. Sony need to sort that out... but in the mean time 3rd party apps do make a difference.
OMG just tried Camera zoom FX and YES i can clearly see the difference ! Now i can enjoy taking photos :good:
And thanks for the info i did not know that the default app compress that much, hope it will be fixed in the next update ...

check out this thread. I think you'll find it even more helpful

Right.....
So thanks to @Style68 and his ingenuity (See thread) there is a simple method to creating your own case for the Xperia Z Ultra that fits the QX10/100... EXCELLENT!!
But what I'm wondering is will you buy a lens now knowing you can have a case that fits the lens?? (I'm guessing yes.. )
But more importantly, which lens will you buy?? So here's what we know...
Even though the QX100 has a sensor that is 4 times bigger than the QX10, and would take great photos in almost any lighting condition, it wont take RAW images.. so I can't really see it bing used as it was intended. And that price!!
- is this massive price increase something you would still consider??
For me I instantly want the best... however for a prosumer camera, I would still use my DSLR for those great images. So I think i'll still go for the QX10.. What will you do?
Similarly if you own either the Q10 or Q100 let us know what you've purchased, and how its worked out. Hopefully this thread will help us out as what to buy...
Thanks hamdogg. I was wondering about the RAW image format. Is it possible for Sony to update it's firmaware or software to support RAW?

Thanks for your post buddy!! Its gonna help a lot of us out.
Yeah I don't see Sony doing that. a single RAW image would take 10-20mb of space, and transferring that to the device after taking a snap would take too long. I think thats what Sony are considering.
Novice users probably wouldn't use RAW, so I'd still love to see Sony have the option...
QX10 sensor is the same as Z1, correct? I'm thinking of getting QX10 as well, since I already have the RX100.

The Z1 has a 27mm equivalent fixed lens, a fast aperture of F2, 20.7 megapixel 1/2.3-type Exmor RS image sensor.
The QX10 has a 35mm, 10x zoom lens, faster aperture of F3.3 20.7 megapixel 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS image sensor.
So while they have the same Exmor RS sensor, the QX10 has more lens diameter, better aperture for low light / colour depth / reduced noise.

I think you've gotten a bit confused -
Focal Length
The Z1 has a 27mm fixed lens which means it is a wider angle lens than the QX10's 35mm. In English this means it will have a wider viewing angle allowing you to fit more people into your shot when you take photos indoors in small spaces.
Winner: Z1
Low Light Performance
The Z1 has a f2.0 lens which means it allows more light through to the sensor than the QX10's f3.3 lens.
I presume that the ISO settings are pretty much the same but the QX10 may have a slight advantage. But based on the aperture of the lens alone the Z1 has the advantage.
Winner: Z1
Composure Flexibility
The key advantage of the QX10 is the 10x optical zoom lens. This allows you to zoom in and out to get the right composure without having to move your feet. It also allows you to get in close to the action where it may not be physically possible to reach with the Z1.
Winner: QX10
I'm definitely not saying the Z1 is better than the QX10 as my gut feeling is that the QX10 has better optics (lenses) than the Z1. The Z1 does have 'G' quality glass lenses which I believe is Sony's pro-grade camera lens - perhaps equivalent to Canon's L-series (I'm not sure on this though). It would be great to see side by side comparisons of the photos from both of these devices to really know what's better. But for us Xperia Z Ultra users our choices to improve our photo taking ability are limited. Personally I've bought a wifi SD card for my digital cameras to allow me to use a real camera to take photos and then transfer them wirelessly to my phone. I'm waiting on my card to be delivered but will let you know how it goes once I get it.
I'd rather save for a Fuji X100s if I'm gonna be carrying a separate camera. Because let's face it the QX is a separate camera with no viewfinder or lcd screen shaped like a lens.

It's all about size. I can stick the QX100 in my jacket pocket and not worry about using a carrying case. Any phone that equals in quality is too big to just stick in your pocket. I don't care that it takes a little time to get it ready because I usually take it with me when it is planned that I will take pictures.

You have a point. However there are other better alternative though like the Ricoh GR, or X10, or RX100. At least those alternatives taken better pictures than the QX.

Made a case based on Style68's thread. Pretty easy to make, and now I just need my Ultra back.
Being held up in customs, but they shouldn't charge me import tax as its being sent as a replacement...
Anyway... here is the video on how to make a case for the Ultra and QX10

Great video!!
I think the G2 still has the best camera by quite a margin if you know how to use it, and I haven't even tried 4k or other camera improvement mods. The only thing the HTC phones have on it is low light pictures, which I don't think most people do anyway.
The OIS helps a hell of a lot for someone like me that has a hand tremor that's really bad at times.
What's your opinion on the camera? I'd rather have my phone than a $200 point and shoot as long as I don't need to zoom.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
it's good under a lot of conditions, but very, very slow. Until you mod it. Then it's all around slick.
I've compared it to a Samsung Galaxy S4 and Lenovo Vibe Z camera (with f/1.8 lens) and both were less precise by a wide margin and frequently had pictures ruined by hand shaking.
The OIS doesn't just counteract the visible shaking; it reduces micro-shakes that blur your pictures without you noticing them. As a result the accuracy of this camera is about 3 megapixels higher than normal (my estimate).
All this being said, it's still a cellphone camera, so it has major flaws. It has only an f/2.4 aperture, which is mediocre for a high-end phone (though OIS counters it a bit by reducing subject-motion blur). Movement and low-light photos get ruined often. And I disagree that these aren't common conditions.
here's a quick demonstration and proof of the sharpness difference between Samsung Galaxy S4 and LG G2:

LG G2
the top pic is what the S4's pic looked like when it did NOT get blurred by hand shaking. most pictures turned out worse than that.
Didn't the OIS not only kick in for videos? Just saying... Sounds like placebo to me. I don't shake much usually, but I get a lot of blur pics...

The stock camera is pretty good but I tried out Jishnu's cam mod and its great 4k is really beautiful though the 720p 120fps is very pixelated and imo not really usable. There's some features that are supposed to be included like HFR mode for front camera but I don't seem to have it for some reason.

I find it to be significantly better at low light than my Samsung phones were. HTC is definitely better at night but terrible at day. Sam used to black out completely when the light got even slightly dim. On my g2 it at least tries to get somewhat of a picture without relying on flash which makes pictures an ugly blue.

The g2 has a terrible camera. On a sunny day it works great but on an overcast day. Or around 6/7 pm when the sun is going down it's pure garbage. This camera take in almost no light. There's no reason why in my kitchen with my light on lets say a 5/10 brightness should pictures be almost black. On my lumia and iPhone 5s, hell even my iPhone 3gs the view finders were all still lit bright and pictures were taken basically how my eye saw them.
LG really screwed up on the camera . this phone would have been perfect if it wasn't for the poor view finder lag/low light . there should be no noise on a photo in reasonable light and there is no reason why an ISO of 200 produces a dark image indoors with dim lighting when my ancient iPhone 3gs takes a beter low light indoor shot . I hope the g3 is a better camera or I'm jumping back to Nokia and wp8.1

You really don't know nothing you're talking about. Fire up intelligent Auto mode and stop set iso to 200. G2 knows better what ISO it should make picture in. It has Snapdragon 800 under the hood which one is supposedly x1000 much smarter and x1000 times faster than your s****d brain

well, I see your point, you want stock camera to point-and-shoot and make descent pix. and I want stock player to play Adobe flash w/o any hassles. and someone want G2 to play music loud in stereo with BoomSound. That's why xda exists, there was not made a phone to be perfect from the box. maybe you may want to try some 3rd party cameras like http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.hdr_plus

The camera is pretty much identical to the Mate 9, but it does have the new portrait functions (that may come to the Mate 9 in a future update).
It's a nice phone, but one complaint is that with the phone being so thin, you can easily grip the phone in such a way that you can't use the on-screen shutter to take a photo. It doesn't discount any other touches on the screen, so I've had many moments where I missed a shot because my thumb was EVER SO slightly touching the edge of the screen.

Great shots. On your iPhone have you or did you try using Nightcap Pro?
P10 is still using a BSI CMOS but the night shots were really not bad. It'd be better if it upgraded to Stacked CMOS like Exmor RS.
Is it good with moving subjects? I have an OP3 and the camera has major difficulties in handling kids and babies, especially indoors, even with decent light.

Would be interested in this as well. I have an OP3T and can't shoot my dog and nephew indoors.
I managed to test the P10 out in the store, and EXIF showed, that it uses faster shutter than the 3T indoors. Did not manage to shoot any people tough :/
I have it for 4 days now and its camera is MUCH MUCH better than OP3. Better results than iphone 7, just the colors a bit more fake, sometimes. Fast camera, shocking fast fingerprint reader, charging speed and battery feels a bit better on OP3, not big differences.
Screen is dirtier than most phones though. I'm getting used to it. Also, headphones volume a bit thin.
But camera... I hated Op3 camera, my baby photos were always blurry. Not the case anymore.

The IMX286 used as the color sensor in the P10 is listed as a Exmor rs sensor on the Wiki. Also in the mate 9 review on GSM arena. They wrote, that the phone is benefitting from the light input of both the sensors. So the f:2.2 apeture is actually f:1.7.
I don't own the phone. But I'm considering buying it as a replacement for my HTC One M8. When i bought that, the camera wasn't a priority. But that is changed for my next purchase.

Unfortunately no. My OP3 had a lot of dust on the lens, inside (i had a lot of phones, this never happened with any...). So I sent it to the Service Center and... DHL lost it.
Anyway. I remember in auto mode OP3 was always 1/17 with ISO from 1000 to 3000+. Any movement turned into blur usually. Very annoying. Then they made some update and it was using 1/20 and lower ISO. Still blurry. Manual shots were slightly better, sometimes.
With P10, same living room, it does 1/17 to 1/25, ISO from 200 to 640. BUT no blur anymore, so most likely OP3 problem is the damn postprocessing. In manual mode, you can really catch the action. Outside, ISO goes to 50 in good light. Interesting, sometimes indoors the picture looks brighter than the reality in auto mode, but in a good way ☺
Greens are slightly fake sometime.

Hello Sebastian
This is a quote from the review on GSMArena:
"You'd argue that the f/2.2 aperture is quite dim by today's standards, to which Leica replies that you have two of those, so double the light. In effect that makes the aperture f/1.6 (2.2 divided by the square root of 2)."

Also the arpeture on the plus model is still better, but not much

Love the photos. Have you used an older Huawei or Honor phone previously to the P10 Plus?
