Lcd + Digitizer replacement question - HTC Droid DNA

Cracked my screen and after doing some research realized I'm better off purchasing both the lcd and Digitizer together rather than just the Digitizer.
My question is, if I am replacing them together do I need to disassemble the entire device? Most of the videos I've found show the Digitizer being removed.

You will have to take off the back which is pretty easy but will probably damage the yellow seal. Everything inside, motherboard, bottom board which has the LCD ribbon underneath it and the top board which has the digitizer ribbon underneath. Got to be careful with the top power button un-stick first. Then your just left with the middle housing take off the screen assembly get rid of the double sided take apply new and be careful getting the top digitizer cable in as once i pulled down the cable too much and the cable got folded in half and didn't turn on. Wait a few hours to see if the digitizer is nicely stuck down and doesn't pop out again as i had to apply tape to the top of the digitizer as will as it just would stick down, the bottom was fine. Remember the old screen assembly has the plastic strip at the bottom for the lights just attach to the new screen.

Thanks for the advice, the parts will be in tomorrow, I'll update with my experience.

cracked but working screen repair

So I bought a Vibrant in excellent condition on craigslist for $40 ... Except the screen glass is cracked.. the phone operates and touch input works just like it should just the glass on the front is broke and spiderwebbed most on the left side and some of the bottom.. I could use it as is and be somewhat satisfied but I noticed on Ebay you can get a new glass lens for $8.00 shipped.. these are from china. Just wanted to get some feedback on difficulty to replace and if anyone here has done this? I watched a vid on youtube but they are assuming the lcd/digitizer/glass needs replacing.. not just the glass. Anyway.. here's the link>>>
http://www.ebay.com/itm/All-New-Out...ultDomain_0&hash=item3a7148fb99#ht_2104wt_905
To replace just the glass its actually slightly harder than just replacing the digitizer. The steps are the same for the most part. You basically have to go through the extra step of detaching the lens using a heat gun and then attaching the new lens and reassembling everything.

cool.. if you could find it that'd be great.. the lens is gonna be here on tuesday.
removing glass.
I too, ordered the glass.I took apart my vibe and it's damned near impossible to remove the broken glass. I tried using a hairdryer ,but i didn't want to get it so hot that the digitizer gets roasted.Isn't there something that you can spray on,s it loosens it?
I have cracked working display too

Hi , I read your posts and I am hoping you may have found the vid that shows how to remove and separate the glass from the LCD, I have read a couple of posts elswhere stating that it can't be done, but I don't believe that is true. Any help or advice would be great. I have already replaced the SIM/MicroSD Card module so I have taken it apart and put it back together and it is pretty easy to do. But the separating of the glass/LCD has me wondering what I need to know as I have no idea what is in there, such as: glass, digitizer, LCD etc. is the digitizer a separate part from glass and LCD? geez I am wondering if I should have spent $90 on the assembly (don't have it at this time, I on disability and am broke so I thought I could try the glass only route) Well, if you could give me some direction or advice I'd appreciate it.:fingers-crossed:
DO NOT REMOVE JUST THE SCREEN. Me and my father did a lot of research on it because my screen is cracked. the company that assembles the glass has a special matching to put the glass and digitizer together. A digitizer pack is around 90 dollars and that is the easiest and safest way to replace the broken screen without harming the digitizer

Fixing my S3....

So basically whilst trying to change the track while walking home my Galaxy S3 had a coming together with the pavement, Now the top left corner of the glass is smashed, there's cracks going along the glass but the screen is in one piece and the digitizer still works perfectly, I was wondering what I'm looking at for fixing it? Is it possible to just get the glass covering the screen and replace that or will I have to replace the whole screen itself despite the fact that's in fine shape?
I want my beautiful screen back basically! Thanks for any help you can provide
Search is your friend........
Bummer about your screen.

Nope you need to replace the whole unit since you cannot separate the parts - at least not without damaging them.
It's around 250€

I believe that means separating the digitizer from the screen, not for the faint hearted. Full unit replacement is far easier but more costly. There are plenty of posts regarding this matter.

yea pulling that screen off is going to be a bugger......you will need heat and time. i dont see problem with the pulling OFF the screen, but i wonder how you would re-adhear the screen once it is pulled. are they going to send you special glue.
thats where i would just replace the whole screen and digitizer. it seems risky to get the screen and pull it off......and just be stuck with a makeshift way to stick them back together.

menu return flex cable broken

I have been replacing the glass screen on my S3 it came off nicely and the lcd if fine. Then i realised i had cut through the cable for the menu and return button. I see there are replacemnt on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-G...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2a1ebb05f7
I have not put the new glass screen on yet
can i repair thiss ? and should i keep the screen off till i can ?
please help time is an issue
Check if the part you see on ebay can be removed from the screen you have. On the SII, this part was sandwiched between the plastic mounting and the screen - I smashed my screen trying to separate the two.
it was attached to the glass screen then went into the body of the phone, I have already removed the glass screen to replace it but cut through the cable. I could attach a new one between the phone and the glass. screen but unsure how i would get the rest of it through the phone.
You could always just install a ROM with on-screen buttons instead.
I gave up and put the new screen on t he buttons for menu and back don't work. As far as I van see he ribbon was attached to the back of the LCD and I ws not removing that. So I'll have to get a new expensive screen replacement . Pity cos the rest is perfect. Can I get these buttons or gestures on my phone without a new Rom ?

Update. Ok so I got my screen replaced. But they gave me the old one attached to the case-chasse. I had sent for a replacement button Cable like that one above. I heated it up carefully and removed the g lass. With some very delicate surgery I was able to replaced.fix the ribbon. It worked. I replaced the adhesive strip and now I have a spare screen that works well. I used lens cleaner and a cloth you get with a screen protector. There is some very slight dust but unnoticeable in use. I should probably sell it but not sure how to describe it on eBay . Could I sell it as home refurbished.

If yo need to replace your menu cable. First unplug the cable from the gap in the back of the plate. Use small a littlenpressure to lift the chip near it of the silver insulating tape beneath. Then I pulled out the ld cable and gently uwhed the new one the right way up through the gap at the front with a blunt pin. You may need small non tooth forceps to pull it through and push new nd or ribbon into female connector. Remove sticky tape on button and apply to clean screen.

That actually worked with the LCD still glued to the frame? I would think the LEDs themselves would break while pushing it through. Anyone else try this or have another method?

S3 Flex ribbon cable replacement success
Do a Youtube search for "Galaxy S3 menu return flex cable repair 2013 May 3" for a little more info on the general idea behind the repair. Below is what I did to get it to work.
I got this fix to work successfully with part V1.0 even though the original was V3.0. I heated up a mini flathead screwdriver, and used it like a scraper to remove enough plastic to open the channel on the left side of the recess (looking at the phone from the front). I bent 2 pins at about a 90 degree angle and gently slid them in on the backside(inside) of the phone. They should be alongside the ribbon cable on either side. GENTLY pull them down to provide the last bit of leverage to slide out the old cable. New one wriggled in same way with a little help from mini pliers/tweezers to pull it the rest of the way through. Wanted to do a video, but not really set up for it. Got pics though.
Cheers!

Samsung galaxy mega glass replacement

Well I did one last week that was successful but I was practicing on one with a broken digitizer so it was no good anyway. I broke it. This one seemed more hard to separate from the lcd. I don't know why. The lcd lifted from the housing and I didnt use much heat at all. But I'll post pictures for anyone who would like to attempt this. You can see on the pic with the tool how thin the glass is and where the lcd lifted from the housing.

I was looking for a thread to post this in, this may be the right place as you may have an idea, since you just installed a mega screen.
I cracked my mega screen last night, originally the phone was still working. In about half an hour the screen wasn't registering swipes, so I can't even unlock the screen. I dropped the phone in the rain so I'm not sure if it's simply the screen or if water has gotten in to the cracks?
Anyways, I am trying to make a decision on wether to sell my broken phone to Mazuma mobile and get around $120 back, or wether it's worth trying to get fixed. I'm not confident fixing phones, so ordering in the screen and attempting it is not an option. What I want to know, is what are the chances of a local repair shop being able to source a mega screen, and fix it, for a decent cost that would make getting it fixed the better option? Since you have just installed a screen I figure you at least know how much the part is
You can buy the lcd screen + digitizer which comes all pre-assembled and all you have to do it swap the whole screen + digitizer out as one unit..this way no fear of breaking anything..i see one on ebay for $158.00 US for the mega 6.3 i9200..but i think it will also work on the other 6.3 mega models..as they must all be the same that way...but i am not 100% sure on that. :good:

Good tutorial how to fix it
There is some kind of double side transparent adhesive between LCD and digitizer. So good luck
Opened front glass
Hi, I opened front glass of Mega 5.8 to clean the dust inside it. When I put it back, the touch is not working. Earlier it was working perfectly, I did not remove any cables. Also that I cleaned it with dry cloth while the phone was on.

Hi,
I've never worked on one of these before but I have repaired many GS3, GS4, Note 2 with no problems. You successfully repaired one so my question is, is the optical adhesive like the GS3 where it rubs off with your finger? I've noticed a difference in GS3 & GS4 adhesive the GS4 is more difficult to clean off digitizer.
That yellow flex cable in your pic looks like a Digitizer flex. The layers are LCD (bottom) / Digitizer (sits on top of LCD so center) / Glass (top which is what our finger touches).
I have a Mega coming in tomorrow and the customer bought just the glass online. I'll see if I can separate. If you have any questions let me know I have repaired many a phones.
Did you get it?

Hey,
No good. The LCD was lifting off the frame which is a guarantee to break on such a large device. Also the adhesive is not the same as the GS3, it doesn't separate as easy. I stopped after I noticed the optical adhesive was not the same so do not attempt to "Lift Separate"
The best way to remove this digitizer is with a hot plate & (.10mm) molybdenum wire and slowly drag the wire between the LCD & Digi while face down on hotplate.

I knew that was the only way to do it, with hot plate and fishing pole string. I'm sure it's a slow process. I'll have to invest in a good hot plate.

No huge investment needed, I use a standard electric pancake griddle which can be bought for around $20. Good, even heat. I've never tried the fishing line method but a pair of business cards does the job very well. I get it started with a dull razor blade in the corner and as soon as I see the glass separating, I slide a business card in behind it. Do the same for the other side. On these big screens, slide the cards down a bit, lay it down on heat, repeat. The trick to not busting the LCD is to keep the heat on it and take your time.
My temperature is set to 200 farenheit. Not sure off hand what that converts to in celsius. Ideally, you don't want the surface to pass 120 celsius. If in doubt, start low and increase temp slowly until the glue softens enough.
The glue we're taking about is LOCA[liquid optically clear adhesive] and is UV activated. It can be bought online pretty cheap. If you're going to replace the glass, go ahead and use the LOCA when putting the new glass on. I've seen sensitivity issues on glass that doesn't have the glue between it and the LCD. If you use the glue be sure to remove EVERYTHING from the frame including cameras, speakers, buttons and mics as it can get messy and go pretty much everywhere. To activate the glue you can literally take it outside on a sunny day and it will cure fairly quickly, about 5 mins or so. To remove it from unwanted areas just use a toothpick, toothbrush, and some rubbing alcohol. I've done it dozens of times this way and it always comes out looking factory fresh

So today I dropped my lg g2 while it was in the quick window cover or smartcover or whatever it's called and the screen got shattered literally

that I need my LCD and digitizer and gorilla glass replaced ? Or just the digitizer and gorilla glass ? Or gorilla glass only ? Since the screen responds somehow to some touches
The display has no problems in black areas or dead pixels or sth
And what is front housing ? I found it on eBay but didn't get it

the digitizer is in between the screen and the lcd.
I would not try to split the screen/digitizer from the lcd. Even if you accomplish this you are going to have to be extremely careful not to get anything in between the new screen/digitizer and lcd when you repair it. you would also need to make sure that you create a complete seal so that no dust/lint/foriegn bodies get in between them after. It is so much easier to get one already pre-assembled (screen/digitizer/lcd)
you can pick up a new screen/digitizer/lcd off amazon for about 120-180, mine came with an install kit as well ( no adhesive but all the tools necessary to dismantle the phone).
Then youtube "LG G2 screen replacement" Its fairly easy and simple to do.
If you decide to go this route vice sending it in I would watch the video() a couple times and then follow along with it as you perform the repair yourself.

That's not what I meant
I meant why he says digitizer is broken when I can still touch the screen and make it work....

Just trust you need to buy the lcd digitizer assembled. The fact that your asking if it's broken shows you probably don't have the skills necessary to simply replace one part. Its actually extremely tricky to do. I fix phones for a company but i hate replacing just onr half of the assembly.

The digitizer is a part of the screen. It's the zero gap technology that LG boasts about and while it's awesome I general, it's a pain if your screen cracks. You won't be able to find a digitizer alone or a lcd alone for the g2 these come together

Okay so this is the back of a g2 digitizer and if yours is cracked right throughout the middle that means that somewhere around the silver/black lines it broke and the touch can't fully communicate with the cable that connects to the phone at the top/bottom
