I was thinking about picking this device up. Short of the bootloader unlock and recovery development is nil. That has me worried a bit. I might be spoiled as I am coming from a nexus and a sammy. Not asking for ETA's or anything jest wondering what you guys think is in store development wise.

Since most devs probably still haven't got their hands on one it's expected...
Only last week we've seen a major growth in G2 US owners (which are the first ones to get devices similar to the international version) and this month we'll see Europe-based people (including most devs, it seems) get their handful of G2 goodness.
This device will be very similar to the upcoming Nexus 5 (most internals are probably the same) so, if the Optimus G is any indication (and that one was underrated like hell), development will be great.
I'm not a (Android at least) dev though, so I can't really speak for them. Just my 2 cents.
Need AOSP ROMs
I am very concerned as well. If this phone doesn't get a a stock AOSP ROM with 4.3 and then 4.4 soon, I will probably sell it for the Nexus 5. There is just too much BS on the phone thanks to LG and AT&T.
The Messenger App and the Dialer App both very bad compared to stock Android. The Menu Button is horrible, and the fixes available only make the problem worse since they hide the menu button.
Also, 4.2.2 is nearly a year old now, and after 4.4 is released in a couple weeks, the G2 will be two major releases behind the Nexus Line.
My Verizon Galaxy Nexus has been running AOSP 4.3 since July.
Now of course LG has added some cool features, but unfortunately they over did it and ruined the messenger app and the dialer, the Google Now, the multitasking, the menu button, the lockscreen with bad apps on it.
I bought the Nexus One and the Galaxy Nexus the day they came out so I guess I am spoiled.
I love the hardware on the G2, but it needs stock ROMs bad!

I completely understand what you're saying, and as someone coming from a GNex myself I have enjoyed seemingly endless options for roms and kernels throughout its life. That said, it wasn't ever the best hardware, and in the end I decided that's what was most important to me as long as I could root the phone and modify what I wanted to on my own. I agree about the slide aside multitasking, messaging app, and menu button...but all of those are solved with not a whole lot of effort if you're rooted. I just got rid of the bloat (and bunch of LG's gestures), put the CM 10.1.3 mms apk that I themed black onto, and am running LMT in full-screen mode. There's still the white SystemUI and Settings stuff, but that doesn't bother me enough to spend the time to change it. Other than that I've got my G2 looking just like my GNex did, except it's running 10x faster, isn't running out of ram, is 200% better at holding onto LTE, and the battery...well, you know.
New versions of android won't come as fast, but I do think they'll come eventually. I was't even running 4.3 on my GNex b/c of all APN/signal issues it had. I want my phone to work more than anything.

I'll do some research on how to install the CM mms apk app, not really sure how to do that, but the LG one is driving me nuts. What the heck was LG thinking, when you are in messaging you can barely see the messages, they are all covered up by a huge text box and the keyboard, and wasted space. Also you have to hit back a bunch of times and reopen messaging to get back to the messaging home to text somebody else. And then half the time it opens at the top of the thread and you have to scroooooooolll down. It's a total nightmare.
What do you mean by LMT in full-screen?
Thanks.
Download 8sms from play store its the CM messaging app for all devices. Everything works. I personally just wanted root and the black statusbar and im happy.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I agree. It's awful and was driving me nuts for the same reasons so it was the first thing to go. I like sliding messaging as well, but it's a little heavier and still has quite a few bugs with regards to MMS that I didn't feel like waiting for them to fix.
I've attached the blacked-out one that I've been theming and using all along with 4.2.x It's just the latest CM 10.1.3 one that has the quick-reply feature, group messaging, emoji, etc. If you prefer white, then just pull it from a VZW-based (so it has the proper mms_config.xml) rom image...like the toro build. It needs to be installed to system. I odexed it as well, but that isn't necessary.
LMT is one of the more inventive and useful pieces of software I've used since I started with Android. Here's the thread to read up on it. It's the pie/gesture launcher that started it all (before PA, etc) and is far more powerful than any of the others. I use that and get rid of the softkey navigation bars at the bottom, so I have a lot more screen real estate.
Edit: attached Mms install requirements

Your sarcasm still burns deep
The perceived lack of developers could be solved if those complaining either learned a new hobby (developing) or donated phones or cash to those selfless developers we have.
So agree it comments above regarding root and roms. Coming from Galaxy Nexus too, I miss all the tinkering and trying out new roms too.
For now I just have to be satisfy with root and nova launcher, configuring the phone to look just like my old nexus.
The screen the cpu and the battery life of this phone runs circle around my nexus. Now if we have stock roms and timely update this will be the best device ever!
-LG G2
Dev here. Waiting for his G2. I would'nt worry about dev support too early on. I have said this before and Ill say it again as it is relevant. G2 is SnapDragon 800 just like the Z1, Note III, S4 I9505 - A and the Nexus 5 are also 800. Meaning our developer support can merge into theirs if needed.
Bump on my nav bar multi task question. Someone posted a screen shot of it.... How did you do it?

Yeah, for apps that don't have an overflow button, the menu button will appear at the bottom, above the normal navigation buttons. Most apps tend to have the action overflow though.

Might want to do a bit of research next time in the Android Development threads for your carrier. All the questions you have posed so far about development support could have been answered.
The phone has just been released a few weeks ago and development started a few days after the Verizon and ATT variants were released. So if this is not enough evidence for you that there will be developer support for this phone, then you are probably better off with the Nexus 5.

Exactly. With new phones coming out so often it gets very expensive to keep buying them. Donations after the fact don't come close to covering the full price of the phone, hosting, etc. I give the people that are still developing a load of credit because it isn't easy, it takes time away from more important things and the users can be a pain.

This video has been around in the other Note forum for a while.
Frankly, it's a tease. There's something about Smasung's promises that are worth just about nothing.
For all we know, they may discontinue this product before we see anything.
I have had the Note for ages, and be the time they release anything it will be obsolete.
Heck, in Smasung's mindset, things are obsolete even BEFORE they're released

So you come from an iPhone to the Note and you automatically know everything about Samsung devices? Hmmm.
In my experience with the Captivate and Infuse, Samsung may be slow to release stuff, but they eventually get around to it. The Captivate started on 2.1, and they eventually got it to 2.2 and 2.3. The Infuse started with 2.2 and had 2.3 for a while, but they pulled it due to some issues; it will be back eventually. And that's just official updates. Samsung phones have great developer support her, my Captivate has ICS running on it, and the Infuse does now too. Premium Suite will come out when they release the official Samsung ICS for the International Note. And how can you say they are making the Note obsolete before it came out? It's still arguably the best device out there right now. And the ATT Note has been out for what, 2 months, yet we already have a stable ICS leak? Ok. I would say that's pretty damn good due to the fact that most phones don't have ICS yet, and the Note was in development before ICS was officially released anyways....therefore of course it's going to have GB when it was released.
I love how previous iPhone users think that they have the best support...One phone a year...one 'major' software upgrade a year. And no fragmentation? Hah. Bold faced lie. If there was truly no fragmentation, all iPhones, all the way back to the original, would be able to run the latest iOS in some shape or form...yet that's not the case.
When I had the iPhone 3g, it was severely crippled by iOS 4. My old Captivate now has ICS on it, and is over two years old now. Hmmm. Weird.
Not trying to bicker and fight, just pointing out that Samsung does support their devices fairly well.
I didn't mention an iPhone. Did you perhaps search my previous posts form two months ago?
And I don't think I mentioned anything about Apple support or whatever.
Samsung is a shifting entity. They are now supposedly pulling the Galaxy tab 10" and the 10" note to make changes. Thing is, this seems somewhat disorganized. It may be a good move, or not. It isn't a stable timetable.
So when they say such and such is going to happen, I'm not going to hold my breath.
Yeah, I suppose I did search it to see where you were coming from, as in my experience I have been really satisfied with Samsung products, so I get curious as to why people have complaints against Samsung. Sorry. Haha. And my reference to Apple's support came from you being on an iPhone previously, therefore that is what you're familiar with, so I compared it to my experience with both Samsung and Apple products.
Sorry if I came off a bit harsh, going on 4 hours of sleep in the last two and a half days, it's wearing on me.
Np problem, I do that also (it's fun to sneak around and check on people )
I'm just pissed that i'm stuck with the S -memo. I bought the Note for the pen really, as it's an ideal note-taker (or should I say, it COULD be ideal )
And I was waiting for the 10" and now it's all up in the Air. I'm pissed.
So I rant on, to no avail i'm afraid
Cmon now...Samsung isnt THAT bad. Honestly, if you always have to have the lastest software, the Nexus line is the best way to go. Its not like HTC, Motorola, LG updates all of their devices quickly. No brand is perfect. I would much rather have to wait a little while and get a completed update than a fast update thats buggy and half assed. And besides, most people love to flash ROMS and tons of customizations. Thats what makes us Android users and not iOS. Last week I used the iphone again and thought to myself..."this $#&@ is Boring! Unlock screen, swipe left, swipe right....all I see is bunched up icons on that never changing 3.5" screen...thats it?!?
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I was one of the many who came from an iPhone. Actually, I have had every iPhone since it's inception. From time to time, I would jump and try another phone and would always go back to the iPhone. This is the first time that I switch out the iPhone and can still say It was a great choice. One of the many things that sold me was samsung's premium suite coming out. I have changed so many things on my note that I could never do on the iPhone. I guess it is just personal preference and what it is your looking for in a phone. I wanted a productivity monster that would do everything I needed or wanted and the notes does just that
Bring on premium, I am waiting impatiently
Coming from someone who had a phone made by Dell last, I would say that Samsung is LIGHTNING fast with updates, lol...

It's believed to be in the new leak being released soon. I'm sure it will get incorporated in all the ICS ROM's very quickly.

Your rant aside, that's actually a good point on iOS. Never thought about it that way. They are always quick to attack fragmentation as a benefit to being on iOS (which they feel they are immune too). I believe this picture sums it up

Been using the leaked "S Note" app on my AT&T Note and am learning to like it alot. BUT it definitely (at least for me) takes some learning and practice.
It has basically replaced the "S Memo" app.
Nice feature in "Settings" is the ability to use pen only...meaning your palm won't end up leaving marks on your note.

As a preface, I want to state I like AOSP and have always appreciated choices with Android. The fact we have choices and options with Android has always been the biggest draw for me with this OS. Generally speaking, I've always felt AOSP always gave the best experience with Android and for the most part, I've always thought skins crippled the potential of most skinned Android phones. I'm somewhat shocked to state that I am finding that I now prefer TouchWiz over AOSP. I really can't imagine using AOSP with this device. First of all, unless our fine dev's can find a way to incorporate some of the features and functionality we enjoy with this device in AOSP, I can't see the need to use AOSP. Secondly, AOSP has usually equated to better performance with a device over the historically bogged down skins. This really isn't the case with this device.
So, I'm finding myself in uncharted territory here. It seems like, for me at least, there's finally no need for AOSP on this device. Anybody else feel the same way?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I agree with you man, Touchwiz/S-Pen functionality is great and this phone is amazing. Plus my battery lasts with 6+ hours of screen on time.
aosp will shine when the device quits recieving carrier updates....i do agree that touchwiz is awsome on this device...same with the s3.
Things I like about TouchWiz:
Notification toggles / brightness control
"Clear All" in recent apps
Multi Window feature
S Pen functionality (mainly hovering, screenshot taking and snipping)
Water sounds/lockscreen (idc what people say, I enjoy the sounds)
You stated that TouchWiz doesn't bog this device down like other skins do to other phones, while I agree I think that it's mainly because of how much power this phone packs (quad core processor coupled with 2GB RAM), not that TouchWiz is heavily optimized, I.e. I think stock AOSP would have a lighter footprint than TouchWiz, but this is mainly due to added functionality in TW.
Now, if someone could incorporate these features of TouchWiz Into AOKP, that's a truly magnificent ROM bordering on perfect.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I completely agree. I came from my s3 and took touchwiz off the 2nd day I got the phone and went to aosp. I love the whole look of it. When the note 2 came and I realized we would be losing features such as the spen which is huge for me and I use daily. To me its not worth it to lose the features. Right now im running beanstown build 3 and couldn't he happier. I have features that I wasnt able to have because they are native to touchwiz. I prefer the ics blue icons in the statusbar and a black statusbar and I have all that. I believe that im where I want to be as of right now with my phone, although im always willing to flash new things

I never had a problem with manufacturer skins.
People said they slowed down the device, blah blah blah.
I didn't notice any performance issues using blur, tw, or sense.
I think a lot of that had to do with people following the masses.
I feel the same way about those who complain about the verizon logo on the home button, and the wifi notification in the pulldown menu.
Some people have a difficult time accepting change, others are just sheep.

I can't speak to Blur or Sense, but I did notice a big difference in battery performance and UI fluidity on my Fascinate when going to AOSP. I had similar experiences with my DROID Charge.
I do agree with you regarding the Verizon logo and some of the other hangups people complain about especially some of the minor things with the version of TouchWiz we are using currently.
I also agree that the draw of AOSP is somewhat based upon following the masses; however, as a person who operated soley on AOSP for a year with a Nexus, AOSP does have its strengths and its place. It was a good experience for me, and I understand this draw. That being said, TouchWiz has its draw too, and this thread was about being pleased that it does.

Accepting change?? Really? So you like how Verizon has crippled our phone that NONE of the other variants had problems with? You like having a nagging notification in your pulldown and the status bar telling you to turn on wifi when we are paying for data? And lastly, the Verizon logo is not that bad but your telling me that you actually like to be like a city bus is... A poster-board & advertising for Verizon whom which we already pay enough money to each and every year...? I for one am NOT a walking billboard and yes, I did cover the home button with a sleek carbon fiber sticker to match my Ringke slim black case that covers the other part of their billboard. I don't think that's being a "sheep", like you say, but it is freedom from letting a company tell you how your device HAS to look if you want to be on their network... If you have flashed a custom rom then you know that most of those things are gone now and Hallelujah!! If we let companies "own" us then soon we will be required to wear Verizon t-shirts when we want to use our phones! LOL
As far as ASOP... I have a Nexus 4 for that so you won't see AOSP on this beast!
I will never go full on AOSP with this phone, unless by some magical developer craziness they are able to make the S Pen work 100% the same as it does now on TouchWiz ROM's.
Performance:
The phone has such an insane engine under the hood that any perceived performance improvements going from TouchWiz to AOSP would be non-existent. It's just that powerful that even if the TouchWiz UI was "bogging it down" then we couldn't tell the difference since it's already vsync capped and running beautifully.
Bloat:
Jelly'Beans' is already trimmed down greatly. I came from a Thunderbolt where stock Sense software packages were about 400-500MB. CyanogenMod 7.2 weighed in at a measly 90MB. This was great and all, and it shows how much debloated AOSP is vs OEM firmware, but Jelly'Beans' is already at 50% debloat over the stock firmware. 1,600MB vs 800MB. That's amazing. And it somehow still retains the awesome functionality we demand from this device.
Appearance:
Some people can't stand the look of OEM skins, they want that pure Android look and feel. Well here's what a TouchWiz ROM can look like with the right setup:

I don't know about you guys, but that looks pretty freaking AOSP Android 4.1.1 to me. And I'm happy with it.
At the end of the day everyone's different. Some people don't even care that this phone has an S Pen, they never use. That's fine and dandy. If they don't use it then it doesn't hurt to use AOSP ROM's, as another poster above said you will be able to keep the phone up to date long past when the carrier's think it shouldn't be updated anymore. And I foresee this phone lasting a looooong time on AOSP.
Android is an amazing thing. We should be happy we even have these options. But for me personally, and many others, there's just no reason to butcher this phone and lose all that functionality. It does it all right from the start.
Android is about choices, so yes, there is a need for AOSP. I'm sure once we get a stable build of CM, many more devs will start to support this device. CM is usually the first rom on every device and most of the time, the development won't take off until then.
Plus, we gotta remember that it is the Holiday season and the unlock is only a few weeks old. Most devs probably won't be working on their roms so we just gotta be patient.

I don't think it is appropriate to say people prefer AOSP simply because they are going along with popular opinion. Having owned and rooted many Android phones, it was a fact (until very recently) that phones with manufacturer skins ran slower/less efficiently than AOSP. I believe this is why most people prefer AOSP, because from past experience they have seen how much better it runs on their phones.
However, as technology has advanced so has the performance of phones even with manufacrurer skins. So is AOSP necessary the way it used to be? No, I think not. But as has been stated, Android is all about options/choice. Some prefer the simple look and slimmed down style to AOSP and some like the look/features of manufacturer skins. To each his own.

Some people have a difficult time accepting change, others are just sheep.

youre nuts, droid x with blur was hideous.
I'm also in the new situation of actually not minding TW and liking the integration of the s-pen. I'm still looking forward to trying out the AOSP ROM's when they're a little more polished since I think I'll always prefer AOSP and I don't use the s-pen/TW functionality THAT often.

I for one am NOT a walking billboard and yes, I did cover the home button with a sleek carbon fiber sticker to match my Ringke slim black case

We didn't even get the first note and that was a bummer at the time. My bootloader is unlocked, is yours? You can kill the Wifi notification process. The Verizon logo on the front matches every other Verizon phone I've had. The rest is just software that can can be fixed. The big advantage this phone has over all the other variants is that it we ill work on all the other carriers.

Even when they do come out with nice polished aosp roms you'll be able to use apps like gmd spen control. It gives you all the functions of the spen basically. I use it now and I still have a touchwiz rom
Doin' big thangs from my Note Deuce
I'll admit that tw is better opp on this phone than on my wife's stratosphere but I still don't really like it. The big one for me is paranoid androids custom DPI per app. The whole reason I got this phone was to have more room on the screen for more info not just to have the large print edition of android but changing the DPI for the whole ROM creates a few issues and pa fixes that. Those are the kind of things you only see with AOSP. Mind you Samsung beat them to the punch with multi-window.
Hello, My wife and I are about to sign up for a family plan with Verizon. I am coming from T-mobile and even though I have learned the nuances over time with Verizon and previously hated their practices, it is still better then T-mobiles lackluster coverage in my area.
Years ago i used to have an HTC droid Eris. Now i am coming from a T-mobile Galaxy SII.
Anyway, I was wondering since i have a 50 dollar budget to throw away on a new phone until the Moto X arrives, is it worth getting a new Droid DNA? meaning will i be able to root it, unlock it, and put a stock android rom on it such as Cyanogenmod or AOKP?
Or should i just get a Galaxy SIII? i love my galaxy SII but its showing it's age hardware and performance wise and i would like a nice cheap upgrade. HTC's 1080p screen and S4 cpu has me going but i am really paranoid that this phone will be too slow and locked down.
your input is greatly appreciated.

For $50 you can't go wrong with the DNA. Yes, you can root, unlock bootloader and put on custom ROM's with the DNA. The process to root, unlock, S-Off is extremely easy thanks to Moonshine and then it's just a matter of downloading Goomanager from the Google Play and flashing TWRP recovery. There are a lot of ROM's to choose from as this phone still has great developer support. The screen resolution and battery are far better on the DNA than the Galaxy S3. Hell, I would take the DNA over the S4 to be honest with you.

Thanks for your input. and yes i forgot to mention the battery life. my S2's battery life is lackluster as well, and i have been reading and viewing material around the web saying the DNA's battery is almost as horrible. I was hoping a clean and sense-less rom would fix that.

I've found underclocking on a aosp Rom gives the best battery life. It will last you through the day with light to moderate use regardless. Battery life is pretty bad for a heavy user tho

Non-Sense ROMs are all based on the CM10.1 work that is in progress. It is perfect for some users and unusable for others because not everything is working. If CyanogenMod/aokp is important to you, look in the original development thread to understand if it will currently work for you.
Have used both the galaxy s3 and s4 and to me the dNA is the best phone out currently as long as the 16gb of storage is enough for you. The sense 5 roms are awesome and it's easy to root etc with moonshine. Sense 5 roms are much better then the aosp aokp roms. Sense 5 is the best interface I have ever seen on a phone
Battery life is great. I get well over 4 hours screen time and it lasts all day easily.

im a light user, but after flashing beaups kernel on NOS M7, my phone has been on for 34 hours and i have 20% left lol
I came from the s3 to the dna through a warranty replacement and I do not regret it. Snappy phone even stock add viper rom and you will drool with this device.
My dad has an S3 and my DNA absolutely blows it out of the water. If you are wanting to keep it for the next two years, I'd go with the One as long you don't mind the slightly smaller screen. The reasons being: Boomsound if you listen to a lot of music, more storage, and more support from HTC/Verizon since its the current flagship. The One is only SLIGHTLY faster performance wise. Not enough to really detect a difference. The DNA is a great device, and I haven't regretted owning it for a minute. THE ONLY device I consider superior to the DNA is the Butterfly S, but it's not even available in the US.
In shorter words, Get the One or the DNA. Whichever suits you best.

Yep dNa and the butterfly are the best phones out. I agree
Thanks a lot guys I guess i'll be giving it a shot. If i don't like it, like i said, I will get a Moto X. I drive a lot for my job so mostly i'll be using maps and maybe bluethtoothing some music once in a while. Having a nice big phone that can handle navigating and not constantly dropping gps/data service will be nice. Hopefully all that stuff works with a decent rom.

i have a dna and if i was you id get a gs4, everyone and their grandmother is going to have or already has this phone and the development is going to be far far beyond the dna, just like every galaxy before it, they already have every option available, while the dna is only losing popularity, im sure someone will dispute what ive said, but thats what the internet it all about.

I don't believe this phone is losing popularity it wasn't popular to begin with. That being said those of us who use phones based on sheer performance and overall design would definitely agree that The DNA is better than the gs4.. yes the gs4 will have a ton more development and it's aosp will be more functional than the DNA because it has a aosp version supported by Google.. though the phone it's not that appealing and it's just a updated gs3 in every since... I have had all phones on Verizon. The DNA is the best at the moment though I am planning to jump ship once the motorla x is available next month...
Let me add the DNA has pretty good development for a not so popular older brother of the HTC one.

I am about to get this phone tomorrow, and i was also wondering if i'm going to unlock (or s-off in the htc world?) this phone and flash AOKP or other stock android roms, should i not accept any incoming OTA updates once i open it up and turn it on? based from what i have read it seems like the latest update makes it impossible to unlock or s-off or whatever and install custom roms on the device. I'm gonna make sure the unit will be fresh and un-opened.
Also, I was planning on getting the Moto X because to me its verizons answer to a nexus. I prefer stock android and personally i think sense ui is awful. If this phone proves to be fast and reliable i will keep it for the time being, otherwise its a quick 49 dollar 1080p phone.

The one thing I would keep in mind, since you said you use GPS, is the extra step to get it working on the CM based ROMs. It isn't hard and just took me a few minutes but going on a trip with my GPS not working. At least we had my wife's phone!

Hi all,
This is a thread where we can chat "all things Ultra" without going off topic in other threads. I'm an expert in going off topic (especially in the dev section), and i'm getting fairly sick of my own behavior, so i thought, why not create a casual thread where we can chat about every aspect of the Ultra without crashing a thread?
Rules:
- Stay on topic
- Talk about whatever you want as long as it is about your device. Rooting, flashing, questions etc.
So, i rooted my ZU yesterday and i'm very happy with it. I installed Xposed Frameworks and changed some DPIs around (i wanted Chrome in tablet mode etc.). Have you rooted your Ultra, or are you waiting? Or something totally different?
Rooted mine the day I bought it
Waiting for a recovery for .532, also a deodexed rom of this firmware. :3

Have you tried ParanoidAndroid or CM? I haven't yet, but i guess i'll flash one or both of them fairly soon, but i'm actually very pleased with the Sony ROM. It's stable (if we ignore the few bugs in it), i like the launcher, i love the Movie, Gallery and Music app (never ever thought that would be the case), and it's not heavily skinned like TW or the other trainwreck that is also known as LG.

Also, I couldn't agree more. Sony's UI is very pleasing indeed. To say, even my friends with S3s and S4s have flashed the ROMs with Sony's launcher.
I actually flashed the Sony launcher on my Note, but that felt.. wrong? So i went straight back to CM It's a different story now though! Did you get the dock bundled with your Ultra btw? What do you think of it? I wish it was a little heavier so i could just pull the Ultra out of it, but it's so light that i have to hold the dock when i pull it now. I guess i could open it and stuff it with something heavy (like lead?).

I installed Nova three days ago. I have Prime, so i want to get my money's worth, but it doesn't look quite right? The app drawer looks normal, but the screen of the Ultra is so big, and the resolution is so high that the default app grid is set to 6x7 or something, which looks kind of ridiculous IMO. SO many icons! I changed it to something more normal like 5x6, but that looked absolutely ridiculous. I will choose Nova in the end, but i'm perfectly comfortable with Sony's launcher at this time, so i won't change it yet.

I guess marble would work too, yes. It would've been easy if i had marble floors, and had a piece left some place, but i have hardwood floors, and that won't cut it. I do however have a "piece" of lead, so that might work. I won't start with project Lead Dock today though, since i've had a couple of beers, and i've learned that it's not the smartest thing to start with a new project while having alcohol in my blood "Hey dude, that 1080 on roller skates looks easy! Hold my beer!"
Luvin the Ultra!! Had prime also but went back to stock. I had rooted it earlier on but went back.just waiting for a Rom that has some options for music. Had note 2 with Jedi x and was using voodoo sound..awesome app..i can get the volume up with headphones and keep it clear. hoping eventually something similar.

After 2 days on Sony Rom I was pleasantly surprised (had sgs3 gt9300 before xzu) Now on PA and for a 1st beta its very smooth and stable. One thing I will say is though, I cant shake the feeling that sound (eg music thru headphones) is not a sharp/clear on PA and the display isnt as crisp on PA either . Ive backed up my TA partition stuff so will go back and check at some stage.

As in a situation in which a business' products or services can succeed by being sold to a particular kind or group of people (which in this case is us), or the short version "a specialized market". The Galaxy Note started out as a niche product, and now it's "mainstream".

Thank god for that! Also Kali checks in now and then, FXP is present, and there are the ones over at the Z1 section.

Seeing the development forum and the original I come to the conclusion that its to difficult or this device is not popular with devs. I coming from Samsung s4 and there the custom roms are many and updated each month.

I'm making a ROM at the moment. Its 98% finished and should be up soon. I'm learning, and the "updater-script" has two status 7 errors that me and my testers are trying to solve. Its just a very slow process as my ultra is away so thats making the cooking/testing process so damn slow... and my unit take a month to get it fixed!
I hate living so bloody far away from the world!
Hopefully will see kernels that allow us to optimize the camera increase the sensitivity of the touchscreen.

I'm boarding a plane as we speak, and will be back possibly tomorrow/ more than likely Sunday after debreif and all the paperwork.. So will have to wait until im back.
yeah the forum for z ultra is the most boring one ever, as its not 1% active as the samsung devices forums.
I respect all devs who try their best here, maybe there is not room for improvement on it that devs can add on
i miss the amazing themes i used to see on samsung devices while here we don't have themes we have wallpapers and such. At samsung i used to have themes that give me a feeling i own a new device whenever i change themes
devs at samsung forums are really very very engaged in dev and modding and everyday there is something new.
Flashing mods and roms was piece of cake at samsung while here we have to look at unlocking our boot loader which sucks, also I don't see any modded kernels and the huge dev as in samsung forums
I miss samsung if only i could sell the z ultra without losing money i would go back in a second to a samsung device
No offense dude, but stow it. Every single post you make, you're complaining about something, and it's invariably your fault for being disappointed. If you want themes, go check the Themes and Apps forum, there are plenty of different designs there. Or, just get the Themer app that's come out recently for one-touch theming.
Furthermore, complaining about unlocked your bootloader is ridiculous. It takes literally, all of 30 seconds once you get the email with your unlock code in it. Just do it, and quit whining. Or don't. Just quit whining, because the ability is there. We've got a very good Paranoid Android ROM, we've got 4.3 Carbon (which I have used a lot on my Nexus 4; it's good), we've got CyanogenMod 10.2, we've got PAC-Man ROM, we've even got a rapidly-improving AOSP 4.4 ROM. What more do you want? I guess if you don't like AOSP it sucks, but even then, we have two stock 4.2.2 ROMs if you just can't deal with vanilla Android for some reason.
Bottom line: there's not as much development for the XZU as for a company that has sold more than 100 MILLION DEVICES. Are you surprised? If so, it's your fault. Seriously, if you dropped $700 on this phone without knowing a single thing about it, I really have to question your general life skills.
Does this answer your question? The solution is not to buy yet another Samsung device. The solution is to support a different OEM, so Samsung doesn't rape the market even more.

Yeah that's right, just ignore everything I said. It makes you look real good.
Please continue indiscriminately buying phones without knowing anything about them, but don't blame other people for your stupid mistakes.

You're exactly 3 seconds away from being reported. Why don't you just give the Ultra back to your dad and ask him if you can get the Note 3 for christmas or something? Or even better, get a job as a paperboy and save up some money

Theme? Don't know why but imho, Sony UI doesn't need any other theme. I bet you i never got bored whenever Sony's UI is on. On the other hand, Android stock theme will get boring over time. So the ability to choose theme is a must for them. Samsung TouchWiz? Yuck, no wonder you need to change the theme If you insist, there's always an aftermarket launcher so no excuse to say the theme selection is too limited.
Every exploit comes with a root so if Samsung phones are easier to root, CMIIW but it is prone to be attacked by hacker. So that's two sides of coin actually.. When you're able to get root, you can question the security of the device. So it is a great progression and care by Sony to patch the software even though you have to compromise for no root. But you do insist to have root don't you? well unlocking bootloader is the way then.
Just checked his previous threads and the conclusion is that he's that guy. You know, the whiner. He even whined in the Note 2, and S3 section. He's just an intolerant, sad and bored individual.
