Good luck everyone this forums is lucky to have Gary here I recommend you take advantage if you need help I will be leaving the forums and no longer bothering anyone I am returning mine for a refund.
Refund confirmed hopefully Asus gets everything straightened out
PS Big thanks to Gary Key he knows how to get stuff done and be helpful forums should be grateful to have him here.
Same story here.
No lockup issues here before or after.
and unfortunately I called this very scenario playing out like this because this is what happens when you try to make firmware compatible with different hardware variables which it's clearly obvious the Primes have and if I had gun to head I would put my life on the processors. They should have only made 1.13 for the people having the ICS lockup issues if they want to take the half assing it shortcut route. The real way to clean up their mess is a mass recall which clearly they are not willing to do.
Feel like I should speak up because we only hear the negative
Have never really had issues with my prime other than mediocre wifi range, obviously no GPS, and before the update an occasional reboot (like once a week and I use it a lot) .
As far as I can tell this update has neither improved nor broke anything .haven't had random reboot yet. Usually dock it when I'm not using it, so I can not attest to any battery life changes but it doesn't appear worse (but my battery life has never been as great as I had hoped, ever since I got it but its a non issue)

Are you saying your prime occasionally reboots on it's own and you don't think that's a problem? maybe not for you but that's now how the device is supposed to function.
... I shall not make posts in the future when I am angry about something entirely unrelated ...

I am simply stating that before the update it had locked up and rebooted ...maybe a total of 3 times since I got it in early January. Yea I don't like it, but it happened so infrequently that I, personally, didn't mind (I am not at all complaining to the people complaining about random reboots, just sharing my story) and was planning on installing a custom rom anyway once the bootloader is unlocked and roms are developed.
Also, I've only had the update for a day or 2, so there is not enough evidence for me to come to any solid conclusion, but I can not tell a difference in performance for better or worse, and it at least hasn't locked up and rebooted yet.
Can you describe the "lock up " issue everyone is having? Its frequency too. Maybe I have it and am just too dumb to notice.
Not all Primes are the same, as we can clearly tell. Perhaps I was gifted with a Prime with marginally fewer problems. Who knows?
Had Reboots and Lockups before.
No Reboots and Lockups after .13 Update.
Wi-Fi now showing +5-10dBm after update.
PLUS, GPS can now lock on and maintain lock inside moving vehicle (Used it in trips up and down Houston all day yesterday with Google Nav and Sygic Nav).
BUT, now seems to have battery drain issues. Am still checking on what could be causing this. I'm not one who easily jumps to conclusions and blame the update just because even if the only change was the update.
I'll initiate a factory reset during the weekend with just base unit test and full re-install of apps. There has to be more to this issue than meets the eye.

Sorry if I came off rude I am just fed up with Asus and wish I could have my money back. anyway lockup issue is when whatever is currently on your screen will lockup and freeze in place for about 10 seconds and then the Prime will proceed to reboot itself if yours did this it has the "lockup issue with ICS " and believe it or not most Primes did not have this problem at all.

I'm with you, I haven't really had any problems either. It's obvious to me that there is small but percentage of primes that was sent out with problems. I can't think of any reason why a company would send out a recall for a small percentage of problems. It would be easier to just wait for those people to call in so they can fix it, which is what ASUS has always been willing to do. Instead it appears as though there are some people on this forum who just like to sit with their expensive toy that doesn't work and not do anything about it.
Mine has problems too
Just started after this damn .13 update, never had a single problem before but now every time the tab sleeps for more than a few min it wont come back unless I hold the power button for 10+ secconds. This is so anoying and I think Asus really needs to step up the customer support and get out a real update that fixes more than it breaks, and while they are at it recall the primes and replace them because they obviously werent ready for market and just were rushed to get sales before christmas. Please fix!!!!! I love my tablet but would just like it to work, I dont want to have to buy an iPad just to get a half decent producy that is 98% stable.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...... returned my old Prime because it had lockup issue with ICS got a new one and have been happily using it for a month with no issues and now since 1.13 I have the random lockup reboot issue and to top it off my battery life is much worse. So basically Asus decided to test the new patch on the Primes with lockup issue but amazingly( or maybe not so amazing since this is Asus) they forgot to test it with Primes that didn't have the lockup issues.
I think Gary misplaced his notes for the patch and just made it sound good.
9.4.2.13 Release Notes -
1. Fix Random Reboot / Lockup Problem (100% success in regression testing with returned units, hopefully the same in the community) Truth: Fixed the random reboot issue on those that had it while causing the ones that did not have the problem to now randomly reboot and freeze.
2. who cares
3. General Performance Enhancements. Truth: severe performance degradation including battery and sleep issues.
4. New WiFi Firmware (there might be improvements in WiFi performance or lock capabilities, still working on the WiFi/BT dropout fix that will not be assisted by the WiFi/GPS Truth: We are blowing smoke up everyone's ass on this issue there will be no fix unless you want to design your own backplate for the Prime.

I love how a lot of you are refusing to realize the fact that asus is working with new hardware... hardware that is currently unavailable in any other device. So Asus isn't hitting the sweet spot yet with all of these updates, welcome to owning brand new technology. Who knows what problems other manufacturers will run into with these new processors. The big things that I see here are;
1) someone from Asus is actually taking time to listen to the community, do their darnedest to assist where possible, and actually give us some type of update as to what is going on (whereas I have not heard of reps from other companies doing the same, hell, even giving us an idea as to what to expect in the next update)
2) we've gotten 4 updates in the past 2 months, which goes to show that Asus is actively trying to fix what's wrong. I know for a fact, that after 3 months, htc finally released an update that supposedly fixed random reboots for one of their devices (I know, I know, getting updates past a carrier is a pain, but still, I'm used to an update every 3 or so months, not every 2 weeks)
This is a HELL of a lot more that Asus is doing for their customers than quite a few other android manufacturers out there. Cut them a bit of slack, let them do their job and fix their devices, and in no time, we will all be happy with functioning tablets. For those of you who can't understand this and want to return their tablets, I wish I could say that I'm sad to say this, but go ahead. I, personally am gonna wait it out, see what can be accomplished, and I'll laugh at you guys when my prime is working as it should (which mine does, albeit a reboot here and there).
Things take time, not everything works right on the first few tries, but I'm sure that as they send out these updates, they're at least ruling out culprits for the issues.
Welcome to owning a technologically advanced chunk of metal, glass, and plastic, enjoy your stay or gtfo ^_^

Well put. I agree. Never seen this many updates so fast. Plus people forgetting we were the first tablet on ICS. The old xoom is just now, after s long time since release, getting ICS like a week ago or so.

And how do you propose having firmware changes just for people with issues be handled? How would general updates after that be implemented? The over simplified statement of only fixing the broken ones has a lot more ramifications than you could possibly imagine. It would make maintenance of the system a complete mess...

If it was free and I was a tester I'd understand. Honestly though, when they had all the dumb beta testers, didn't one of them notice there was no gps signal or did they notice it and ignore it? Baffled by this and I lose sleep at night.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I think that the worst part about all this is that they claim they tested the update, when it is clear that they haven't. This is TF201 launch all over again where they sent devices to the market that didn't get any testing.
Just when I didn't think all this could get any worse, it has.
I will vote in this poll about 3 days or more after receiving my update (not available for WW-devices yet..), I say 3 days because I want to monitor the tablet and see how how it reacts to the new update before jumping to conclusions.
My primary concern is that it of course actually fixes my random rebooting issue.. which it looks like it does when I check the forum for people who used to have the issue before.
I can imagine that the battery drain can be just for the first 24 hours or so, because the tablet has to get used to the changes or something like that
Alright so, here's where I'm at.
I've been watching the development thread for the prime here on xda, and I am really anxious to start using custom ROMs.
However, I have been waiting patiently for ASUS to do something like they've claimed they are about to- order replacement parts to fix many of the issues (wifi, gps, etc) users are reporting. I've never had strong complaints about the prime in any aspect, but that would be awesome if there was widespread improvement in primes with these replacement parts.
Is there anyone else waiting to unlock their bootloader to see if these parts show significant improvement in the prime? Should I continue waiting or dive right into those tempting ROMs? All opinions are welcome, but I am not interested in hearing anything regarding ipads (or other devices).

I think you misunderstood the replacement part incident.
It's only for the few unit with Wifi/BT problem and is on a case by case situation, not all Unit will get the fix, and it's not new hardware either.
There is no fix for the GPS, nor will there be replacement, and there is nothing about a new back case or now wifi hardware modification.
"the actual fix is just ensuring that the hardware utilized in current units is performing to tested standards. Basically to ensure this level of compliance we are replacing components within the WiFi subsystem on an as needed basis and then testing the units before shipment."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537260
Has anyone said what "tested standards" are? I'm just curious to see if how I perceive my prime is within standards or defective. I ask this because I'm being cautious to unlock and flash custom roms as well. I feel that my wifi is weak at times and I would appreciate a semi-functional gps... I don't intend to use the device for navigation or anything.
honestly, i have voted not to unlock.
Considering the somewhat spotty quality control issues many are finidng and how if you have any issues your on your own after unlocking, i dont think its worth the risk.
If the tablet was a samsung, which i have faith using Odin i can unbrick nearly anything, i'd say have at er no problem, however Asus has had some issues dealing with the GPS fallout, various wifi bluetooth issues, and after opening a prime myself and seeing first hand how simple oversights can cause big issues, no thanks.
At this point the development community does not seem large enough and does not offer enough rewards to risk me losing my manufacturer warrenty.
Perhaps in a few months that will change, but for now im sticking with locked.

No idea, but my guess, able to get wifi signal 30 feet from source, and GPS, able to see any Sat = Working

Right, I read Gary's post, and he does say the repair departments will be getting shipments of hardware. Whether or not that hardware is different from what was originally shipped with the primes has not been stated. He only said they were getting parts to fix the problem. My prime does show a significant dropout in wifi when connected to bluetooth, and that is one of the areas ASUS is working to fix. GPS is just a hopeful.
There is also so much variation with each prime, it is difficult to tell whether or not many of them are performing to expected standards.
I have avoided anything that will potentially prevent the RMA process, but will probably unlock, root and load a custom ROM when I've exhausted all the other avenues. Or when the warranty expires, which every comes first.
I've been waiting for all the details to be worked out. Looks like the best case is what Gary is setting up at the repair centers.
I just, today, send my data into the service center for the repair or possible replacement. I use my Prime every day and will actually have to change my work process for every day the unit is gone. I have come dependent on it
I would lean toward not unlocking at this time... giving your Prime more time to display any flaws.
This is from someone who has already unlocked and loaded a very nice custom ROM. I am quite happy with my Prime. I have never even tried wi-fi with bluetooth on, so that could very well be an issue for me. I may get lucky, but, then again, my Prime could start acting up tomorrow, and I would be out of luck.
A custom ROM will make your Prime operate a little more smoothly and faster. But, the Prime is a pretty high-powered machine and runs rather smoothly from the factory and is also quite fast. I do not think the extra speed is worth giving up your warranty so early.
Also, I'm pretty sure that us unlockers will get no help from Asus with future fixes, should they come around. I knew that going in.
Why did I unlock already? Well, I got into the excitement of unlocking and loading a custom ROM ... that kind of stuff is an absolute blast for me. Also, I would not lose much sleep, even if my Prime went belly-up tomorrow. I'd get another device (probably the TF300 when they come out) and move on ... maybe even getting a cheap little $200 tablet to tide me over in the mean time. I'm not normally a huge risk taker, but once in a while, I just have to go for it.
My general advice would be: If you are asking if you should unlock, don't!!!
(P.S.) The following made me laugh (thanks for that):

Ha I'm glad I could provide you with a laugh. Some days those can be sparse. A few years back, I unlocked my Nexus One the day i got it and never regretted it for a second. I know it is different with the prime, but I very much enjoy the options that become available after unlocking. I'll probably end up just leaving it since it is (like you said) already pretty darn fast to begin with. And, if I ever need it, I always have the option to overclock this baby to 1.6gHz on performance mode (since root doesn't require unlock).
I am not unlocking the Prime.
At this very moment, stock and custom roms do not differ that much. Running stock is smooth and stable. Custom roms do not offer anything that I must have that is not offered by stock.
My Galaxy S has been running ICS since I forgot when. Stock is still what? 2.3? Not sure and not care. If the prime is in a similar scenario it will be unlocked the second I can.
So, for now, no. I will not unlock the device.
Just wondering if anyone is actually happy with their replacement phone. I've been dealing with minor issues where my side buttons stick sometimes and don't always work properly. Apparently this is common on Sammy.
I love my phone to death and can deal with it if it means getting a junk refurb. But I'm still under the manufacturers warranty, so I'm kind of torn on what to do.

I actually recently just got a replacement a week ago. Bottom left portion of the screen was cracked and I dealt with it for a couple months and was undecided about wanting to get a refurb but I decided to. The replacement came and it didn't say it was a refurb anywhere and has been working perfectly, able to overclock and everything. Have no issues with it whatsoever, maybe I'm just lucky but I'd say go for it. You get to keep your battery from your old one so that's a plus but my zero lemon is plenty. Haha it's your call
I got a warranty replacement due to my phone stopped charging. I don't have any issues with it. No defects in appearance, no weird problems, able to "jailbreak" first try. Also, as a few select people love to claim that there are issues with the headphone jack on every warranty replacement, not mine.
I will say that things do happen and there is a chance you might get a bad one. Then you just have them send you another. Just don't be like the weirdo that kept sending them in and was up to like 35 or something like that.

Got mine replaced twice, both replacements have been fine other than the glass seems to be really weak.
The refurbs I have got with past devices have been fine, like new.

Im on my 7th since april and finally happy lol. Any minor defect I don't play with, I paid way too much for this phone
worked for me
A couple of months ago I had mine replaced. The phone wasn't charging and when plugged in it seemed kinda loose. Whether it was my fault or not they sent me a refurbished one and I've had zero issues with it. This one even seems to have a better grip of the plug than my brand new one. If you can get it replaced, do it. I've always been someone who makes excuses for not calling verizon to fix the problem and I always end up paying for it. Literally
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I know worst case scenario is I have to sent it back again, but I certainly don't want to have to do it multiple times. Which is the reason I'm holding off in the first place. It's really only the power button that is giving me the most problems. But again thanks for the input at least I'll have a little piece of mind if I do decide to send it back.
I have gotten 5+ refurbs from Verizon and have Never had an issue. They all come looking 100% new and don't have any cracks/blemushes/scratches. I probably got lucky to get so many perfect ones but that is just my experience.
I recently had to warranty my phone because of a bad head phone jack. The first replacement I got couldn't keep track of time properly so I had to send it back. The next one worked perfectly.

There is no reason that the d6708 should be in the Z3 area of XDA, other than to be a marker of mislabeling. From what I've gathered, the Z3v has a chipset similar to the Z2, but with the camera and power of a Z3, which in theory sounds pretty nice since the added camera button really makes this phone great for photographers. When I purchased the phone, I loved it... Over time, however, I noticed that the overheating really took a toll on the experience. Then things stopped working. I've read where people completely lost function of their camera... I lost GPS. The locked bootloader means that the phone is stuck in the past. The community has been able to root the phone and even go so far as to load a custom recovery, but it stops there. There are no new ROMs... No updates after 5.1...this phone is already pretty much dead in the water because neither Sony, Verizon, nor any developer will take ownership to give life back to this phone with so much potential. XDA needs to move this phone to its own device thread... Hopefully someone will make the separation and put some development into this device.

I understand your frustration, but I disagree with your intentions of where the community should move to. When this phone hit the news about coming to Verizon, and once it did, it only remained as a few threads within the Z3 General forum. Owners of this phone and browsing customers of this phone would be entirely misguided by the threads of the actual Z3 when it happened. It was thanks to the people back then to help move the Z3v into its own subforum so a community could be formed in working directly with other people who has the Z3v. If you move it all back, it would be all for wasted efforts and the Z3v will just completely be buried without anyone to know its existence. The subforums should remain as is so it would help anyone else grab a still great phone.
Also, your gathered summary about the Z3v should be flipped. The phone has the chipset of the Z3, but everything else physically is a customized Z2 variant. The camera button is still nonetheless ultra useful as I do miss it on my Galaxy S7 Edge. The other issues I've had with my S7 Edge that I've never seen on the Z3v are lag issues, before and after root. I just rooted my S7 Edge and there are lots of bugs and kinks that had to be worked out, bu the Z3v never encountered such problems when it achieved root. Also, be glad you have custom recovery on the Z3v since custom recovery is not yet achieved for the Z3v. Just my 2 cents.
I have to say that I often come and check and see if there is any news about the z3v getting an update but it is starting to look more and more grimm. Which is sad because this is an amazing phone and verizon should of stuck with it. To bad for them I did fall in love with the sony phone line and since they don't really offer a sony phone anymore and att has moved into the area I have thought about changing over and buying a sony phone unlocked and hooking it up that way. Plus being a DirecTV customer I can get unlimited data for them. Now that is starting to look rather nice I must say. Thanks all.
Sony makes good phones, in fact in a recently released phone stats states the Sony line was the one that had the least restarts from crashing of any other phone.
If we didn't have the data package we have we would go to a GSM carrier and buy a newer Sony to use, great phones.
Sony has great build quality into their products, in my experience. My bro's S7 Edge had its LCD damaged (in a bulk case too) even though the phone looks perfectly fine without any cracks or water damage. I've dropped my Z3v dozens of time with the totally plain and simple case from Verizon, but no hardware damages done to it ever since.
My only contrast with both companies is that Samsung has excellent customer support by fixing his S7 Edge with no charge and completed the phone in a single day, being shipped back on its way anytime now. Sony requires all these paperwork and documents that doesn't even allow me to send my accessories to have them repaired, and I heard it takes weeks for them to do a repair too. Can't win them all, I guess.
I'm not sure if this is even allowed here but, I can't use the phone for phone calls AND 1 other "over the air service" such as GPS or WIFI hotspot or even wifi - if I do the calls get broken up with the poor audio routing of the blue tooth adapter--it's almost like the phone doesn't have enough resources to run cell phone call AND GPS or cell phone call AND blue tooth music or cell phone call AND wifi/hotspot service....any eon one service used at one time works flawlessly but with a cell phone you want to use ALL the wireless services at once and have them work.
AND, the phone shuts itself off when it's in my pocket and charge to 95-100%?? I miss phone calls from work all the time, I am constantly checking the phone to make sure it is still turn on. What a pain the behind.
I call Google - so sorry it's Huawei's problem, I call Huawei - so sorry its Googles problem. In the meantime I bought this phone from google and it worked well for 1.5(purchased 06-16-2016) years (besides the shutdown issue) then poof gone - it is now a piece of crap - 3 months outside of the one year warranty and I need a new phone!
So, my question to these two companies ( and I know they have lurkers in these forums all the time - that's why I am posting this here after speaking with BOTH of them) is: How in all honesty can you expect me and every single person I talk to about this to ever purchase another phone from either one of you?
Because I do talk, to everyone who will listen, about this; I see a LOT of people everyday, different jobs sites all over eastern Ontario. I tell them that as a technician for the past 30 years and knowing how technology works and also knowing that BOTH of these companies are probably to blame each in their own way and that NEITHER of these companies are thinking about their customers on this issue and only about their own bottom line I couldn't possibly recommend either one of them for anything.
Without exception these people I meet ask me which brand they think I SHOULD buy. I tell them this: "If you want a phone that just works and you aren't a customizer get an iPhone. If you are a customizer get a Razer Phone, an LG if you want cheap or a Samsung, Samsung being my preferred choice - but whatever you do, DO NOT buy a google phone or any phone made by Huawei because BOTH of these companies have proven to not be trust worthy, over this debacle, to their customers and if this is the case now then why would you think any future incidents of this nature would be any different?
Good bye to Google and Huawei, hello to Samsung again.
Thanks for letting me rant/rage here.
I have to say, I'm also disappointed on my nexus 6p. One day it just went nuts, shutdown itself and then bam! bootloop occurred and from that day on I can't install roms including stock, yes including stock, without applying a 4-core mod (forces my device to use only 4-cores to work and boot). Some say it's a hardware failure or something, idk. And even before that i have been having issues with my battery, i only get 4h sot average. I cant believe i spent so much for this crap. Dont get me wrong though, i love this camera very much and the stock google experience (and custom roms) but everything else is sh*t. So yeah, +1 for this "dissatisfaction"

Well I have no idea what carrier you use but if I was you I'd "accidentally drop" or "lose" my phone and file an insurance claim- I know Verizon told me if I end up breaking or losing my 6p they would either give me a Pixel 2 or 2XL so maybe that's something to look into?

Personal experience is the complete opposite. Phone was nearly 2 years old (1 year warranty in the UK) and started shutting down. Online chat with Google and confirmed I had done the basic fault fixes like factory reset and they immediately send out a refurb to replace it.
They had no legal requirement to do so but also did this for a lot of people who bought their phone through the play store. Its more complex if it was bought through a carrier as the warranty / contract is then with the carrier or Huawei and those experiences appear to be less straight forward.
Everyone has different experiences, I wouldn't touch Samsung with a barge pole due to personal problems I had with them and the number of faults our organisation has with their phones. Had an LG phone that had the reboot issue and they wouldn't do anything as it was outside of the 12 month warranty.
Warranties have an end date that you sign up to, they may give a goodwill gesture outside of this, or you can fight them to say the fault was inherent.
What have you done to diagnose the issue on your phone?
It could be as simple as the battery needs replacing. It can have all sorts of symptoms including shutting down or failing services when there is high demand and a power spike which the dying battery can't provide. Have you run something like Accubattery to check the battery state?

I'm in the UK. I bought mine from Playstore but the warranty card states the handset had a 2 year warranty?
I agree with you on LG though. I bought two LG G4's. One had the well documented bootloop within warranty and they repaired it. The second started to bootloop two weeks out of warranty...LG didn't want to know.

Had the same issue. The phone was practically useless for calls due to its secondary mic issue. The battery aged really well for me, though
When I contacted Google - they were pretty responsive. I really appreciate Google for this. After a year they had no obligation to even entertain me. But that's about it - they gave me standard replies like factory reset - to which I laughed. Rooting and disabling the secondary mic would have probably solved the issue but then the payment options would'nt have worked for me. Google had acknowledged the mic and the battery issue in North America but here in India they went the factory reset route. I shared the bug id as well. Nothing helped. They asked me to visit the Huawei service center. They changed mic - issue still persisted - asked me to contact Google.
I eventually got myself a Samsung N8. Had been with Google for 3 generations. The Pixel 2 XL couldn't convince me this time. Customer lost.
