About G2 development... - G2 General

Hi, i have noticed that the available aosp roms are pretty stable and they came super quick to the device.
My question is; how and why is it like this, is the G2 developer-friendly or are they just "cheating" or bypassing something i dont know about?
I also wonder how the G2 is compared to the N5 regarding development of roms and such..thanks in advance.

The G2 smokes the N5 regarding development of ROMs and such... Because there are NO ROMs for the N5!!!???
And they're totally cheating. That's why they're developers. Why ask how or why and just hit the thanks and DONATE.

Hello mr. obvious, fyi. i have donated several times to different devs (you could have asked first) and i ask because i am curious (duh!)

Wait...first we have threads asking why there is no development or ROMS available, folks threatening to return their phones if they don't see ROMs
&
then we have ROMs and folks are asking why we have ROMs? Wait, whut?! LMAO

I understand your question and from what i know is that phones utilizing qualcom chips are easier to develop for because the sources are available unlike exynos.

There is no cheating if developers find the correct drivers and sources they can port ROMs easily. Nexus 5 just came I'm sure in a few weeks it will be flooded with ROM and Kernels.

threads like this are useless. For two reasons. A) we already have fully functional ics releases. With less bloat than the official ics will have. And b) use Google search. U can check the status of ics for our device yourself. And grab news about possible release dates.

This thread is useful for two reasons.
1. Samsung hasn't officially released a date yet and there really hasn't been a word on a Google search as to whether or not ICS has been released for the AT&T Galaxy S2.
2. Not everyone prefers the modified versions of the ROM, and though there is bloat on the AT&T versions, not everyone's incredibly satisfied with the custom ROM's (I am personally, but yeah, not everyone's down for the custom ROM's).
3. If the official ICS did come out, it can provide something or another to make the current custom ROM's better, such as the ability to get Google Wallet (or ISIS) working, for example.
I appreciate that this is a forum for developers, but that still doesn't allow us to flame every new thread that comes on here that's not created by one of the elite or something or another >.>

Dude. When ICS hits it hits. And if u can't find anything on Google about ics release dates or possible release dates u aren't searching right. Either way when it does drop u go right ahead and flash that buggy bloated OS. I'll stick with my AOKP.
Edit: I sound like a douche in this post. So no more arguing. Hope we get official ics too sometime soon. But odds are I won't flash it anyway ;-p

Oh you're right about this being a developers forum but you're completely wrong about the assumptions that only "elite" members can post. You're about as wrong as humanly possible. We only yell at people for threads like these because it does NOT help any developer in any way and this question gets asked over and over again all in separate threads which bog down the forums an leave less room for the more legitimate questions/ posts. And once you've been on here a while you usually know when you should post a thread or when you shouldn't. I've created a total of 2 threads and only one of them was a thread asking a question (the other was for a pair of cm7 themes) and I made sure it hadn't been asked before. Understand a little better?

I am with you on how this i777 should behave and tone down but you list 3 reasons that I think useless, or should I say "non-productive", here's why
1. If you google/search and find nothing, you MUST think, I mean automatically think, that it is either NOT NOW or NEVER happen. Just like when you search a word and it isn't in the dictionary, you should automatically know that the word is not exist or not being defined yet.
2. custom ROM is for who love to flash, if ones don't want to flash, why would they come here in first place? Moreover, if AT&T decide to release their OFFICIAL ICS for this i777, the owners would get the update automatically, right? Then why stop here anyway
3. If the official ICS did come out? if so, then search/google in step one already yield some results.

How can someone add developers to a phone? Xda isn't a company that has developers that get paid to make custom roms and kernels. Developers here are all volunteers. They don't get paid for what they do. They develop for phones they have.

you will have to wait its still a new phone even unlocking the phones sim lock hasnt been out long and is only possible through SETools.
give it a while and once ICS is out and the devs get hold of the phone it will happen, altho we have to wait for ICS 1st!!! lol
Once it has ICS you may see more devs. Problem is the phone isnt widely available for free on all carriers and it isnt the flagship model. Most lowend phones receive less dev support.

I'd say that it has to do primarily with sales, not with the status of the phone as high or low end. The Xperia Play was a mid-high end when it came out, and it didn't have a huge community since it sold poorly. The HTC Wildfire and Xperia X8 were thought as mid-low end or low end models and they still have a following: they sold decently well. One has to take into account other factors as well: whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked (this basically blows Motorola out of the water), whether the company is overall hostile or friendly towards devs (Sony has made huge strides to please them, which has shown nice results), the difficulty of making ROMs themselves (Chinese companies have tablets which are easily hackable, but they tend not to publish source code)...

Help Roms Samsung Lalaxy Ace GT-5839i

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a good custom rom for my girl GT-5839i.-
Looking for ICS ou JB, preferably CM rom.
Can someone help me with some lights.
I'm quite experiente with Huawei phones but I'm finding a bit complicated dealing with this Samsung especially because of the fórum organization and afraid to mess the phone due to compatibility issues.
Thanks in advance.
Actually, there is no ICS/JB rom for our ace-i, but you can try CyanogenMod 7.2 rom of biel, which you can find here..
And if you want to see all the rom, search in development section.
Thanks a lot.
It's a shame no real dev work being done for this phone
Actually, it's not easy, because we don't have gpu sources, however there is a CM9.1 rom, but very laggy.

How will you define real development work?
This has been said several times that instead of bashing and saying someone sucks, you should see how hard it is and mostly people aren't paid for doing this. You should be grateful to have this much, many devices don't even have this much development.

threads like this will always keep coming, best is to report it.
Here is how it is: the device is new, as always with new devices it takes time before enough people have the device to work with it. The htc one has been around for some time and enough devs have it to have "3 builders".
In about 6 month when next cm version releases and a new phone releases, guess what? This phone will get the "updates" faster than that new phone. And repeating this year after year until everyone is poor.

Devs are working hard to build it, but there seems to be issues building it from source and flashing it. Some Quincyatt users tried to flash it when a dev build it, but failed to flash. Be patient . You might have to wait until February or earlier, because other devs that make roms for other phones are already building Lollipop 5.0.2, which is major fixes,

What kind of proof do we have that we aren't waiting on a ghost?
There is no proof. The original Note is a very aged device now, but very reliable. As reliable as the talent of the developers that exist on XDA. You only have a few choices.
Trust and be patient
Develop yourself
Buy another device.
Don't be so quick to throw the first option away. Sorry, I haven't looked at your stats, but I have been here a while with several devices. One thing I have learned, this device won't die.
Good things come to those who wait. They said the Note wouldn't get JB. They said it wouldn't run KK.

Was using a Note 3 for a while. Awesome device, but because of the locked bootloder and the fact that safestrap is no longer supported, I just went back to the Note. I'll settle for a slower device as long as I have the flexibility to customize it. I have a hard time understanding why OEMs force consumers into using their ROMs.
P.S. - It's Motorola

That's all fine and dandy, I just wish these mystery developers, could at least Identify themselves and make a note (no pun intended) that they do in fact have intention on porting 5.0 to the note, and are in fact at some stage of development (no eta required). I prefer to have this than to having someone, who isn't claiming to be one of these "undercover developers", tell me "yeah someone is probably working on it, and it's probably going to be out in February." for all I know you may be getting your information from talking to a horses butt hole (no flame intended). Even a link to an non-credible noob from some backwater internet forum saying he's in the beginning development stages would be better than "yeah someone is probably working on it, and it's probably going to be out in February."

Really? I've been running Kit Kat on both of my notes since release! At release there was some bugs, but I'd say sounds like you haven't tried too many distros of it lol! Any newer CM11 runs pretty damn good. And Liquid runs well! I personally found BrokenOS to be practically flawless and I'm running the newest release of Spirit ROM right now and damn its killer! So I'd love to know how you can say Kit Kat is hardly running? LMAO!
