My hometown has terrible Tmo reception and only Edge data speeds. Is there a way to force the phone to register ATT when Tmo is weak? And is it possible to register with data other than ATT Edge, I know LTE is available there. Tmo has free roaming to ATT but is the speed restricted on the device or at the tower? Can a custom APN workaround the speed problem?
As far as I know, you only get 100mb of roaming data. That's all I got anyways, I have unlimited everything as well.
To answer your question, I have no idea.

I have an s 740 and I have had it for several months.
All is well with T-mobile except when I go to Lancaster County, PA.
How do I set my phone up to raom when there is an AT&T network signal?
It will not switch automatically. When I try and switch the network manually, it will not let me save the settings for AT&T.
I checked with T-Moble and I do not pay anything extra for any roaming. I am on the unlimited loyalty plan and also have unlimited data.
I do not care about the 3g AT&T has either since it is an s 740.
At this point I use a prepaid Net10 phone which gives me a full signal.
Thanks
I'm going to switch to Tmo monthly 4G plan...
I know I9300 has no 4G but I would like to know whether it will be working?
Is it gonna automatically change to H+ or HSPA+ (something like that) or recieve no signals at all?
Thanks a lot.
It will move to HSPA when you do so if selected in settings. Most operators allow 4g users to switch back to 3g or 2g networks. Internet speed will be according to 3g coverage. But you should confirm that by calling the customer service.

it's obvious it will explode
sorry but this is a very boring morning... xD
NOOOOO! DON'T DO IT THE WORLD WILL END!!!..
Nah just kidding your speed will drop down to H+ nothing more.

Are you talking T-Mobile USA or in Europe? If you mean T-Mobile USA, you will only get EDGE (2G) data service.

u just wont get the LTE speeds, but it should work
I just got a i777 and unlocked it to tmobile service. I read that its possible to have H+ service on it at all times rather than being stuck on E network. I sometimes get H+ service in certain areas of the city but its usually for a few minutes. I have rooted my phone with Odin. Where would I go from there to get the service to work? I would look around for threads but I wouldn't even know where to start looking, sorry and thanks!
basically unless you live in a new TMobile 1900mhz spectrum city, then you are SOL.
if you are NOT in the new TMobile spectrum, then you will never get better than edge. PERIOD.
A search would have found the answer. T-Mobile and AT$T use different radio frequencies for their higher speed connections. Except as pointed out, unless you are in one of their newer 1900mhz areas you will be stuck at EDGE connections on T-Mobile until they get better coverage. This is the price you pay for using a phone specific to a certain carrier on another carrier's network.
I am thinking of switching to Straightalk $45 unlimited everything plan for my Vibrant (unlocked and rooted). I am wondering if anyone here is using Straightalk on Vibrant. I hear people talking about
‘Straight talk Tmobile sim’ and
‘Straighttalk AT&T sim’.
This might be a dumb questions but What is the difference between the two? Do I have to request a ‘Straight talk Tmobile sim’ in order for it to work with my Vibrant. Will I get 3G speeds and not edge? I also hear that MMS don’t work but I m not too concerned with those since I don’t use many.
I would love to hear from any straighttalk users on Vibrant!!
Thanks
Straight talk is an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator). They use different carriers. You need to specify which carrier sim you need per your device in order to get 3g data speeds.

So I need to tell them I need Tmobile compatible sim for me to get 3g on my vibrant?
You can get either t-mobile or at&t sim. They both will get 3g on vibrant. Vibrant has att 3g combatiable bands. Go with the compant that provides better coverage in your area.

Thanks. Its good to know that Vibrant gets 3g on either ST ATT & ST Tmobile sim.
I would double check that AT&T is using bands for 3g service that are compatible with vibrant. I know that the AT&T captivate doesnt work on T-Mobile 3g service.
What you don't know could fill a book.
I recently bought an unlocked Atrix 4g off ebay to use on my tmobile plan. Everything went smooth except that I'm having issues with slow internet. I've looked all over for a solution(youtube, google, xda forums, etc.) All I've been able to come up with was that until late 2012 this phone wasn't even able to connect to tmobile except on 2g, and a bunch of useless(to me) instructions on how to change my APN.
At this point the phone tells me I'm on 3g, and I consistently have 3-5 bars. My old sidekick had 4g in 90% of the area and 3g everywhere else, so I know for a fact that there is coverage. However when I do a speed test I get an average of 25-50Kbps download and upload, occasionally I get 170Kbps. I've called tmobile and verified that there is EDGE network support in my area(apparently also HSPDA but no HSPA+). I just installed GSM Singal Monitoring app from the play store which is also telling me I'm on EDGE network type.
I've tried every combination of APN settings I can find on the internet including cingular settings and have come up with nothing. This data transfer rates don't drop, and don't get better. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure it's not the phone, I can get 18Mbps at work on the wifi(running tests, downloads I've seen up to 4MB/s or 32Mbps). Also if there's anything I need to do on the phone to get internet speeds which requires root, I've already rooted the phone. The only thing I've installed since the root is CWM.
I have used both the Atrix 4G and Atrix HD on T-Mobile. The 4G does not have the radio frequencies needed for 4G / LTE data service from T-Mobile, but the HD does. In fact the HD is a perfect match for T-Mobile frequencies. You can check out the detailed specs for these phones on GSMARENA.

I also am on TMOUS, the best I've gotten is 5.3 Download 2.7upload on edge.
Im not sure why but I cannot use 3g.Not for a lack of trying though.(tried many apn settings, and even playing with the Dev radio settings)
I want to set the facts straight. The only T-Mobile frequencies that are compatible with the bands on our 'specific' devices are for 2G, Recently T-Mobile has refarmed their towers to support unlocked AT&T devices like ours, specifically they refarmed the towers in 'certain' areas to broadcast and receive 1900 mhz waves that our device's can use for 3G and so called "4G" If you only get 2G that's because there are no nearby towers functioning on the 1900 mhz frequencies.

I would like to add that I own an Atrix 4G on T-Mobile (in Chicago), and I get Edge, 3G AND HSPA+ signals. OP was correct in that the phone wasn't able to connect to the other bands except on 2G until about december 2012 (they expanded in order to entice iPhone users to switch providers).
But currently the MB860 (Atrix 4G) *does* work on HSPA+ (which is often called 4G, even though it is not true 4G LTE), which is still much faster than 3G.
post or send be a copy of your apn settings.I'm in Houston and they've reformed their towers here.
