Firstly, double check your settings, make sure it hasn't slipped somehow to vibrate.
Then open the sd card slot and check what color your litmus paper is, if white you're ok, if pink then check this thread:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-Ultra/Water-Damaged-xperia-z-ultra/td-p/469253
Report back with what you find.

I haven't put this instrument in any water - but the previous instrument that I DOA'd was put under a stream of water for quite a while and didn't have any water damage.
I think it's about luck.

I'm sorry but I rinse my Ultra underwater every other day, and like me plenty of other Ultra users, and nothing happened to mine.
I even filled the sink and put it inside, or watched a movie in the bathtub and dipped the phone in to check sound output underwater.
So point is, your device has something wrong, or you modified it the wrong way, or you let some of the caps open.
Either way, no reason to throw sh*t at Sony for lying, when they are telling the truth and lots of people can prove it.

Here's a weird problem

The roommate's Photon she gave to her son as a gaming device. So of course I put a boatload of games on it for him. He played it steady for almost 2 weeks straight and almost all of his waking hours. One night I put it on the charger. Screen would not light up. Left it on the charger over night, still nothing the screen doesn't light up at all, but the bottom buttons do. Would that mean the screen is burnt out?

Wellp. Just some basic troubleshooting before id go as far as saying the screen is burnt out. Do the buttons provided any vibration feedback? Does the screen? Do you see a green charging light by the earpiece? Have you pulled the battery? Have you tried pulling the battery, plugging it in, and then putting the battery back in so it charges only?

Yeah, have done that with the battery, numerous times and various ways. The lights on the bottom come on, when the power button is pressed but they do not vibrate. Screen doesn't come on. Seen small red light, seen a white light and have only seen a green light for a moment when it's plugged into computer, but not the wall charger. Oddly enough the computer picked it up and opened it's internal folder.

So, lets get this straight really quick.
[√] Your lights work
[√] Your phone is recognized
[ ] You have Feedback on touch
Well, sounds to me(i dont repair phone hardware very often) that the cable inside the phone that connects the screen to the board, could have been severed/pinched or completely disconnected. I would say shake it gently to listen for rattles, but you will hear a few if the photon has some age to it, thats normal.
If you have the tools, and at this point have not much to lose, then your best bet would be to crack open the phone(not literally of course)
Seeing how it sounds to me the phone is free and clear aside from the screen, this could do more harm then good, the cables inside the phone sever very easily.
Id look up on google to see if maybe you are able to find a toolkit for repairing smart phones, and also a schematic of the phone(not likely to find one unless you work in an authorized mobile repairphone center)

---------- Post added at 08:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:09 AM ----------
Oh one last thing to try before cracking open the phone. When you hit the power button and the lights come on. Try touching your finger along the lower left side of the screen(where the lockscreen slider is) and check for any feedback.

Awesome. Best of luck with the repairs. hopefully all it is is a disconnected cable. Parts aren't to expensive for the Photon, and ebay will be your best friend if you run into anything else. If you need anything else, shoot me a pm or reply here. I tend to roam the forums when im not busy with work, my car, or otherwise.

[Q] In-call screen blackout issue. Help please!

I'm hoping someone has a solution to this very annoying issue I'm having with my Note 2.
It's Verizon - stock - 4.1.2
When I dial a phone number and put the phone to my ear the screen goes black - as it should. But when I move the phone away from my ear the screen doesn't come back on. It stays blacked out and I can't get it to come back on with the home or even the power button.
This means I can't hang up, I can't put the phone on speakerphone mode, I can't use the touchtone pad to navigate through menus. It's made my phone a real pain in the arse.
Anyone have any thoughts on what to do or what's going wrong?:fingers-crossed:
A couple things I'm thinking... Try pulling out your spen when it happens.. Do a battery pull if nothing else.. It might be the proximity censor... Do you have a screen protector on it?

I'll try the s-pen, maybe that will work.
I've got a screen protector, but it's the same one I've had on since I first bought the phone months ago. I've pulled the battery several time, it's the only way to hang up!
I too think it's the proximity censor, which sucks because I don't want to trade in my phone for some refurb that's gone through God knows what.
Good luck...those were the only things I could think of. ..
Take a look to this thread http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...when-making-call-screen-doesnt-turn-back.html maybe it help!

Check your case and your screen protector. and clean the proximity sensor. Know it sounds weird, but have problems before with screen protectors getting oil on them when placed to the ear and the sensor thinking you are still close. Also lighting from cases makes the sensor go fruity. Not a science but worth a check.

THANKS! I used the compressed air method - I blew it through the ear hole and open the back of the phone and blew it through any openings I saw. Now the sensor works perfectly again. :highfive::highfive:

[Q] Software or Hardware problem after rain? Xperia ray

Hello guys,
two days ago I got myself stuck in heavy rain, with my xperia ray in my pocket. Whenn I got home I checked whether there was water in the phone.
Luckily it was just a bit at the bottom of the rear side and everything seemed normal, but when I pushed the home button, the white light changed into yellow, and, for I have CWMrecovery, there was no more blue light at boot. A while later even the home button and volume rocker did not respond anymore (which now is fixed). Has this to do that some water actually got in the phone and ruined the LED notification light, or what could it be?
Thanks in advance
Try cleaning your phone board using IPA..

Hi there ,First of all..when u got to know that phone is wet..you should immediately disconnect the battery to avoid internal short circuiting..I suppose its hardware..If its software u can see if SEUS fixes your problem but before operating phone you have make sure its not damaged by water..
If u havent done that water might permanently damage the circuitry inside your phone..
Clean your phone with IPA isopropyl alcohol, which might fix the issue..
The Rain water after getting dried up might leave salt traces on the board which may conduct (even when water is dried out) causing damage to the board so use IPA to clean it off by disassembling your phone..
You can google Ray disassembly, or have a professional do it for you..
If your phone was completely submerged your battery might not be working fine anymore..check your battery once..
It can be dangerous operating with a faulty battery..it might melt or even worse explode so make sure your battery is good..
Water can be a serious threat for electronics..so i dont guarantee that your led will work anymore but still its worth a shot ..:good:
Clean the board to see if everything else is working fine..but you may have to give up on that led..good luck
Hope i helped
regards..

Many thanks!
I already figured it had nothing to do with software, because several apps even confirmed that vibration and haptic feedback should work fine on the phone.
I did disconnect the battery and saw that only the lower side of the rear side (opposite to the LEDNOTLIGHT) was a little wet.
Apart from the problems I mentioned earlier I am 100% sure nothing else was damaged by the water, or as you stated, the left-over salt.
I'm definitely gonna try the IPA, thank you very much!
I'll keep you up-to-date
Glad i helped you..

How do you recommend cleaning the board? Drip the IPA on it and wait for it to dry, or what´s the best way?
Does this IPA work for the vibration and haptic feedback too? since those are practically located next to eachother

You have to physically disassemble the phone first, then use a microfiber cloth, dip it in ipa and clean the board .. stillI dont think your phone got wet enough for water to get in so much..
Still google for videos on disassebly..here is one

If it's not caused by water damage as you said, could having it put away in the bathroom with a hot shower on have caused it? Maybe because something caused the H. feedback to stop working and the LEDNOTlight to freak out?
Moisture from hot shower may cause damage but not sure....
To be simplelease keep your away from water..unless u have a Xperia Z or ZR or V or whatever.....

Unfortunately your IPA did not work. All I got was a short white light i.o a yellow light, but it turned into yellow immediately. I guess there's no other option to buy a new phone? I'm gonna pay more than my phone costed. It's over an year old and water damage of course isn't covered by the waranty

Well, the white and blue light are back, but the haptic feedback unfortunately not, and somehow the LEDlight doesn't flash anymore when a whatsapp message comes in, but that might just be me not paying attention..
Any idea how to deal with the vibration not working?
The vibration is made with a small motor with an off - centre weight on it, I have changed them before on my old Nokia ,I think most newer phones use the same type.

Alright, what happened 'til now is that LED notif is back, unthough the yellow light still somes pops up instead of the white light. Vibration neither working, but nothing else seems to be not working properly. If anyone knows how to fix the two things I mentioned above, tell me

[Q] power button working as volume up, can't lock & unlock

Dears
Really I need your help my mobile Xperia Z dropped down in the rainy water and I search it for 10 min and then I call it to know where is it, I find it ringing umder water an I know that's under water when I saw the mobile light, I pickup it from the water and it's fully working at this time, then I thought to close it and wash it by clean water and then this make it not working, finally I go to sony and they said that the water come inside the mobile into headphones and SIM ports and the indicator color come pink and this is not under guarantee, so I come back and dry it by the hot air from the hair dryer and now all functions work perfectly except big problem that the power button it's not work for switch on the mobile and I can only switch on the mobile in case that connect the mobile with the charger, I can't lock my screen and also I can't unlocked the screen when it's locked automatically.
I try everything
1 install new and latest software
2 hard reset with power button + volume up, one vibration and three vibrations
3 resets factory from inside the mobilr and erase all data from internal memory
Please advice for your Solution
Also u can mail me on [email protected]
Damn I thought the Xperia Z was waterproof. Must be because the rainy water is really wet.

XZU goes crazy very often now

Its getting more and more often. My XZU screen goes crazy randomly. Crazy means.....like multiple presses on the phone are happening at the same time and apps are starting without pressing, even the homescreen goes crazy and goes into edit mode and the crazy ness is so crazy that I cannot even turn off the phone because the moment I hold down the power button and it shows the power off window, it immediately goes off. I cannot go to the apps I want because random ads are all going off at the same time. This whackyness normally goes away when I reboot the phone....however, I discovered today that after rebooting the symptoms came back immediately. I had to reboot twice more in order to get the phone back working properly.

you could change the sensitivity of the screen.
There is a file that you can edit.
navigate to system/usr/idc "max1187x_touchscreen_0"
If you edit this in a notepad app or root explorer... then find the code:
touch.filter.level = 2
and change it to 4 or maybe 6.. to make it more sensitive..
- or 1 to make it less sensative

I also have this problem. It's mostly because there is water (even very small amount, like sweaty fingers) on the screen. Just wipe the screen and make it dry.
Also for some people(like me) the problem only happens on a certain area of the screen. That area of the original film on the screen is damaged, and water on that part of the film just won't go off. You can try washing you phone with tap water, and you can see that water will stay on the defective part of the screen forming a small water pool, and clean and dry(maybe some water bead) on the rest part of the screen.
I've sent back my phone to sony for repair. Hopefully they can replace the original film. If not I guess I'll go for another screen protector.

Yeah, that's the oleophobic coat coming off in certain areas. Mine's come off in the lower left corner, but that doesn't bother me since i can't see it unless i hold a flashlight over it.

how I wish I came to XDA earlier.. I just googled "oleophobic coating" and found out that I can repair that myself, at very low cost(about the same as the shipping cost to send it for repair...)
Well at least if sony sent it back unrepaired I can still do it myself. Just one month without my precious won't kill me (thinking positively!)
