bump with added question, not an intentional hijack... Who was your insurance? Do you know what replacement device you'll get?
I didn't use the insurance, just called HTC and they scheduled a repair. I paid nothing out of pocket not even to ship it to them.

I got back my same device.

As far as I understand if you use the HTC unlock method you loose your warranty.
http://m.engadget.com/default/article.do?artUrl=http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/03/htc-explains-official-bootloader-unlock-process-asks-you-to-sig/&category=classic&postPage=1
Yes and no, it all depends on the Sprint store. If it is a hardware issue then you may still be repaired under warranty. Any software issues will not be covered under warranty. The few people on here that did need a repair were required to return the phone back to stock and relock the hboot. The problem is the that is what the hboot will show, "Relocked" so any tech will be able to detect that you did unlock the bootloader at one time. Again, it recap, it all depends on your local Sprint store. Some will some will not.
Im wondering if there keeping a log of all users that are registered on the HTC dev. Due to the token and watermark. Because if they are they could tell sprint or asurion that you were rooted tho sprint would know due to the S relocked. Sprint really doesn't care tho most of the techs are on board with root.
Hopefully there is another method to root soon.
I know the C IQ thing was trackin stuff in the past and sprint shut it down wouldn't be something new if HTC snuck something in with the rooting since you have to set a account up on there site to root and the token and watermark and so on.
Anyone confirm yet that if you do drop your phone or it has hardware issues if your TEP still is good?
So what do you folks think?

HTC has setup their bootloader unlock method in a manner where they are able to track the device by serial number.
AlphaRevX, also required serial number for hboot 1.3/1.4 unlock.
Whether or not HTC actually uses the information, transfers the information to Sprint or Assurion, etc., I haven't seen any solid posts or indications one way or another.
HTC has set themselves up in a position where they do have sufficient knowledge to verify whether or not a device was or wasnt unlocked through their method, simply by serial number.
Hope that helps!

I got my digitizer replaced the other day, and the techs at Sprint seem to care less if you're rooted or not. I doubt HTC would transfer the information to Sprint or bull**** Assurion. I know plenty of places around me that don't even check to see if you're rooted or not.
I actually asked a Sprint tech in the mall near me if unlocking my bootloader would void my warranty with Sprint. He told me that TEP still covers your phone but my warranty with HTC may be void.
Hope that helps!

Hey Guys,
Sorry if this has been asked and answered. I am a tmobile monthly 4g customer and I purchased my phone off ebay from another tmobile customer.
My capacitive lights just stopped working yesterday. I know this is probably a good thing! Nonetheless as we brush up against the very end of the first year the phone has been out, I'm wondering where I would go for repairs, service or an exchange.
I don't imagine I'd have any luck with tmobile, but maybe you all have a differing opinion.
Conversely, should I go directly to HTC with the issue and if so, what does HTC typically do, fix it, exchange it, replace it with an alternate model, or tell me to go pound sand?
Finally, I am presently S-Off. Do I need to S-On before taking it to anybody?
Your help would be appreciated!
Dz
HTC would warranty it in, if it still has a warranty. T-Mobile will NOT warranty it. You have to be S-On on a stock ROM and DO NOT mention that it was ever rooted or anything.

For those of you who may not own a DNA yet, at this time Verizon has mixed stock of older DNA's mixed in with those that have been updated to the current, unlockable system version. To save yourself some trouble until the OTA get's cracked, I am going to show you how to identify quick which version is on the device you are purchasing. This may afford you the opportunity to ask the salesperson to check for an older device. Just remember that as soon as you power it on, it's going to be looking to update. I advise you to come right back here and get your phone unlocked and rooted before it won't allow you to postpone the update any longer.
View attachment 1815045
As you can see circled on the box, without even turning on the device, we can see if the device you're buying shipped with the OTA. If you see the 1.15.605.4, you can let them activate that and then get it home, get it set up and get yourself protected before it updates.

What are you going to do? Wait for a new method?
I posted in the other thread, but I bought one off Craigslist a couple weeks ago with 2.04 installed. I lost my patience this morning and bought one off Swappa that is already rooted and S-Off'd. I will post mine up and try to get the same money, which I should be able to get.
I shouldn't be out any money and if so, just a little bit. It just takes some time obviously.
Did the same thing wiseguy. Funny thing is I was going to buy the same one from Kenyatta on swappa but I bought one for a bit more as it had a wireless charging pad. He took too long to respond about wether the phone was S-Off or not.

I'm gonna hang in there unless I can score a pre-ota device with a smashed screen or hurt real good. I'm not afraid to swap motherboards if needed.

I have the att HTC one that I bought off contract at best buy around july. I've been considering unlocking the phone to test out T-Mobile. I've been requesting online from att to have the device unlock but it keeps telling me that the device currently can't be unlocked. What gives?

How long have you had service? You need to have ATT service for a minimum 6 months I believe.
I have been with att since 2009. I am still under contract til Oct 2014 but that shouldn't have anything to do with it since the phone was paid in full. I thought it was six months for their gophones? At least that's what I understood from their website.

hey there josé!
i hope you are well. why don't you hop on over to the good folks at http://www.unlockcode247.com/imei/1/26/Unlock-code-for-any-ATampT-TMOBILE-HTC- ? :good:
i have used them a few times. the unlock cost me $3.20 and about 2 hours. a few times they took longer. but it's a comin'
and then you don't have to beg for a solution, when you already paid so much for the phone. :silly:
Okay well here's a quick one to bust some bubbles. I bought my HTC One via Wal-Mart on promotion in April. In June I figured to hell with At&t. With that being said I rooted the phone and got S off. Then found a mod on the Development fourm for the One that let me unlock the international menu. I bought a Net10 SIM Card at Best Buy. Cut the SIM to fit and BOOM!!!!!!!! No need for a UNlock code or any of that. Net10 gave me the apn info and from there I've been able bypass all the usual hassle.

OK I was finally able to unlock the phone. I called Att and told them that I had purchased the phone off contract at best buy and that when I would request the unlock code via their website it wouldn't accept my request. She then tells me that if I had bought it off contract the phone should have been unlocked, which was a lie. So then she starts questioning me asking where I bought it, how much I paid etc. I then told her look I have the receipt if you don't believe me. She says well we are going to need you to fax us the receipt. While she is setting up the claim she asked why I wanted to unlock it. I told her because At&t coverage at my house sucks and I wanted to test out t-mobile since my brother gets excellent coverage on his htc one. So I faxed the receipt and next morning had the unlock code. I tried unlocking the phone only to realize that since I had converted my phone to gpe I had to reconvert back using the leaked ruu and then unlock the phone. I am happy to report that finally I was able to unlock the phone. And then I converted back to gpe. Far way better speeds and coverage on T-Mobile prepaid than on att. Well at least at my home. I'm looking testing the coverage on T-Mobile at work and school before I make my decision on fully changing carriers.

yep, you didnt get lucky, they had no choice but to unlock it if you paid in full
just a tedious process that they made you run through
very simple solution, call ATT and tell them you are going overseas for a month and u want to be able to use ur phone with prepaid sims so u need them to unlock it for you and they will do so with no questions asked

Wow you are one lucky guy. Tried the going overseas line and got nothing. So i went through an online unlocking service. So which carrier did you end up sticking with?
Hi ,
I flashed a hell fire rom on my att htc one. Can i just enter the unlock code or do I need to first restore my phone to what it was before (as it came from AT&T and then enter unlock code ).
OP,
did you ever get the phone unlocked?
I'm in a similar situation as you but have a Moto X and they flat out refused to unlock my phone.
Tried some 3rd party unlockers and the code they gave me did not work.

Normally their policy is after 3 months from the moment you got the phone you can request the unlock code. and also the unlocking really comes out of who you talk to... Some are very easy going other not.

Yea, i saw that its 60 days. is it possible to activate my phone overseas for 60 days? It really does seem like the unlocking is very random and down to whoever you get on the customer support line. I've had no luck and have a 500 dollar paper weight !
me and my brother both bought our AT&T HTC one's in contract.
we both used a third party online unlocker to unlock both our phones.
Costs us each 10$ and within minutes our phones were unlocked.
it's stupid of them to antagonize their clients like that.
just drives people aways.
