Make sure you have your usb settings in the phone to Kies or to ask when you plug in. If you are running any launcher other then touch wiz, Kies will not recognize the device. So if you are running a different launcher, clear its defaults and go to the touchwiz home and then plug the USB in.
You probably downloaded the Kies for the I9000, it doesnt work on TMO Vibrant. There is no Kies for USA available for that model yet. Someone suggested to download the Kies from the Canadian Samsung site instead. I believe that Kies for USA will be made available when Froyo is released for the Vibrant.
I downloaded Kies for the USA yesterday and my Vibrant connects fine.

Where did you find this? On the Samsung site just now I get this message when looking for Kies on the US site:
Currently, there is no offiical version of Kies Stateside for the SGH-t959 (Vibrant).
I think he used the UK, or Canadian version but when you install it you select USA.
I used the Kies found @ http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as posted by abhiku in a similar thread. Works perfectly on win 7 64
Could you be more specific? That link redirects to http://www.samsung.com/apps/ which doesn't help much.
oh shiii, looks like they pulled the version i dl/d. thankfully, i store installers of this nature on a backup drive. uploaded to sharebee for ya: http://sharebee.com/8cf24208
Thanks, but that didn't solve the MPT USB driver failing.
what exactly is happening? like when you plug it in is it just saying "failed to install device" or is the pc recognizing it for usb mass storage, but nothing else. Some more details would be very helpful.
I have the home screen on TouchWiz
I plug the phone into the USB port
Several drivers install properly
I get the MTP screen on the phone for a few seconds and then it returns to the home screen. A dialog box on the computer says:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
MTP USB Device XFailed
I have tried 3 versions of Kies and 3 different USB drivers
I tried the I9000 version of kies... I could not figure out how to make it work with the Vibrant.
I dont use Outlook... what are the real benefits? I saw it an sync your music? Is there a basic guide/Q&A for Kies somewhere?
I tried to make it work on a rooted phone and it just fails.
First it wanted me to disable USB debugging, and when I did it failed to connect anyway - the software is a piece of rubbish.
Anyway Samsung states in their FAQ that Vibrant is not supported yet
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa..._ID=314807&PROD_ID=560&PG_ID=-1&PROD_SUB_ID=0
the screen on the phone just flases the mtp showing a usb plug
The version of Kies that I successfully connected the Vibrant to is 1.5.1.10074_2.
Windows did all of the driver downloading for me lol. Here is a screenshot of the SGH-T959 connected.

I get the same. This software is junk. And what I saw of the interface makes it look like it was written in the 90s.
From what I am seeing on the international side, it may be that Froyo is installed using it so I was hoping to get things working in anticipation of that. Plus, it has a movie converter so its pretty simple to convert movies to the right format.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 white (my brother) which I can't seem to update via Samsung Kies.
I mean I have a Galaxy S3 red (mine) which I updated via kies and I don't know why I can't update this one.
Anyways, the Galaxy which I'm trying to update is on Android 4.0.4 ICS
When I connect the phone to the pc underneath where it says firmware information it's written: PDA:LE4 / PHONE:LE4 / CSC:LE4 (ORA) but yet no update button. I'm trying to update the phone to the latest version
*i've reinstalled kies several times!
anyone know how to resolve this or even better how to update the S3?

Thanks, Zanah F
Wow that’s an odd issue indeed
Hum that is an odd issue… your right when you plug in your phone Kies should read it go online and then download the update…
Make sure you’re computer is connected to the internet.
Check your USB debugging and switch it to the other setting to see if that can trip it into upgrading.
Reboot the phone and computer (if you have not already done so).
Try a different computer? (this shouldn’t effect it though… I don’t believe Kies is phone specific).
If you connect to Wi-Fi and then search for an update does it say that ones available?
Definitely an odd issue and you got me interested.
If you find out what is causing it then certainly come back and let me know.

Hi all,
I had a US Cellular GS3 and rooted it in july to run CM 10.1.2 stable. It worked like a dream. I just switched over to verizon and I downloaded a tool kit to help me root my device (i got it by googling verizon s4 toolkit and going to the droidviews website) and am following the steps. However, when I get to the download moad and odin loads up, it does't recognize my phone. Therefore, when I try to flash the TAR file in the PDA box, it doesn't get sent to my phone.
Can anyone help me please? I have the newest drivers and I rebooted both my phone and my cpu, and nothing works.
Thanks in advance, I can't handle TouchWiz!
If you're sure you have the Samsung usb drivers,
Use the usb ports in the back of the computer.
Make sure you have the Samsung usb cable that came with your charger.
If those don't work try a different computer.

It worked, thanks man!!
I have a Galaxy S4 that is flashed to Verizon Prepaid (originally U.S Cellular) I am trying to send pictures and files, like songs to and from my computer, but when I plug my phone into the laptop I hear a "bing" but nothing comes up. On previous smarthphones I've had, on the phone it would give me options to use as a disk drive ( where I could upload or download files to my phone) But I am not getting anything. I am new to the Galaxy series so I am not sure if its a setting or if its because its a flashed phone.
Also I was trying to use the Samsung Kies, but (after I installed the program) I'd plug my phone into the laptop but it would say device not supported. I am guessing because it's flashed ( it doesn't recognize it as a Galaxy S4 ) Will the Samsung Kies not work on a Flashed phone?
Thanks
jake
Use android file transfer if you are on a mac. If you're on windows you should just be able to see the sdcard and external card when you plug your phone into the computer.

I see my device under device manager (sansung phone) but nothing pops up on the phone. I remember in past phones when you plugged it into a pc it would ask if you wanted to use as a charger or disk drive ( to share files )
I can send via bluetooth but thats the only way. Other than that I cant see the phone
Do you think its because it's flashed?
I think I get confused cuz I dont know what drivers to look for the original galaxy s4 (sch-r970) or am I supposed to find out what the phone is flashed too?
Or does that not matter??
I also can't get my phone to work through the Kies app. . Thinkn cuz it doesn't see a galaxy s4
NOTE. I'm on windows 8

Should not matter what it's flashed to. Try uninstalling Kies and any other drivers or whatever else you've tried. Then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
Scroll down a few and you'll see k1mu has a link to drivers that some ( including me ) have had better luck with. I have windows 8 as well and had a similar problem as you.
Hopefully that helps you

I see my device on my laptop ( Samsung android ) but nothing pops up on my phone, Shouldn't it ask me what I want to do?
And with Kies it says device not supported. Between it being Windows 8 and a flashed phone I think something is misfiring
What's weird is usually you get something when you plug a device into the USB. I get the "bing" but that's it
I have not a clue about "rooting" Not really sure if I should attempt it lol
Just found this through this site actually .. I think I may have found the issue. Settings on my phone found through "service codes"
