[Q] Taiwan vs UK model. - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know the Taiwan model is slightly bigger, but is there anything else that's different?
Any issues with either model?
Sent from my C6906 using xda app-developers app

I don't think the Taiwan model is bigger. The Chinese model is and it has plastic around the sides instead of aluminum. I've got the Taiwan model and have no issues. Haven't seen a UK model yet.

Uk i think is alike US model
Asian versions have glass as opposed to this weird plastic like material they use on alot of UK xperias

Is yours not the L50T model? Do you have the 3 mic holes and lanyard slot at the bottom of your phone? I've been reading a few threads in the accessories section (screen protectors) and some are saying that their screen protectors aren't fitting their Taiwan Z2 due to it being too long (some said that they needed the longer version from China models).

The L50T, made for China Mobile is slightly bigger.

I do not have the L50T. Taiwan unlocked version is not China Mobile version.

That's right. Taiwan and UK versions are the same. I have a Chinese nillkin case. Its too tall and the holes are wrong.

China has 2 different models, one for China Mobile(use TD LTE), one for China Unicom, the Unicom model is called L50u, it is exactly same as the international modelL50w.
When you order, be more specific, tell the seller you want the one for the China Unicom, they will know.
The L50T dimension is 149x73.3x8.2, L50u and L50w are 146.8x73.3x8.2, longer by2.2mm.

Hi, to avoid a new thread I'd like to ask a few questions:
For europe (italy) use which china version is better? L50u, l50t or l50w?
Does it come with official rom and gapps or I need to unlock it? Had htc one m7 802t and got to many troubles to get gapps.
If it comes with a custom rom, how do I update it?
Do the 3 missing holes worse the phone somehow?
Thanks!

all Z2 versions are about the same, small minor differences with design and board,
the differences arent going to make majour issues
try getting one for your region to avoid sim issues
gapps it comes with by default
updating the stock rom can be updated through OTA or sony PC companion
custom rom updating... it has to be an app or something within the rom its self or you can do it the usual way which is flashing a new version of the rom
also by the way the you cant do much at all without a custom kernel containing recovery, and you cant have that without unlocking the bootloader

Sim lock shouldn't be a problem, might ask the seller first tho!
I was more worried about being stuck with a chinese rom (like the m7 802t) and forced to flash a custom rom.

i think you may be, im not too sure, the good part about most xperia roms are that they have multiple languages and if you get a generic asian device then it wont be sim locked
not sure about mobile net bands
try googleing or perhaps someone with a asian model can help

Check the China 4G Band work in your country too.

Does it come with gapps or have to be rooted? There are no infos on the software :/
It seems it has no 4g, only 3g.

depends on the batch you gets, check in General threads you will see a post [ defect/ issues with batch ] so far the 14w20 is apparently good :3
you have to check personally for the gaps please refer the thread i just suggest, your bootloader should be unlock for rooting else you can't and if will brick your device

gapps = google apps. Chinese rom is unlikely to have google apps installed.

GS2 with ICS

Hey all i work at a place that sells Mobile phones, I JUST sold a SG2 from poland, in a sealed box that had Android 4.0.3! pre installed!
It was NOT a custom ROM, and appears to be original from Samsung as my glaaxy Note has a similar rom
Can you go to settings and check the firmware version?

Only a picture of that sales package can prove your point.

If you sold it in a sealed box, how do you know it's running ICS?
Did the customer bring it back or sth?
I would expect this from Sammy, although it does seem a bit sooner than I'd have expected.
Cool story bro, but pics or it didn't happen. In other words...hang on...got a sneeze coming on...*bulllllllllsssssshhhhhiiittttt*
Ahhh. That's better
this is strange since ICS for SGS2 still under development..
I suspect this is just an error on the part of the OP - nothing malicious, just a plain old mistake.

Firstly, if it was sealed, how do you know it had v4.0.3 on it?
Second, ICS is still under development so wouldn't be on any retail devices.
Third, your either chatting sh1t or you are very mistaken!
As stated..
Pictures or it didn't happen!
Sounds fishy to me.

[Q] Benefits of branded firmware?

Evening chaps,
Got my Galaxy S3 from Phones4u last week so the phone was unbranded. Now the question I have is what benefits would I get if I flashed the O2 branded firmware on it instead?
Normally I would just wipe it and put a custom ROM on and never touch branded firmware, but with the S3 the software seems to be spot on.
What's everybody's view on this?
IMO there are no benefit to a Branded Fw just more bloat to slow the phone down

I was thinking the same, but I was wondering if they messed with the radios etc to make it work better with their network. Might give it a go and see what extras I can get.
the only benefit is that u can give that phone to yo girl ... who dsnt mess up the beast with root and stuff

O2 bookmarks O2 Arena Wallpaper otherwise zero .
Wait for updates from O2 when and if they update the firmware .
They dont mess with radio >> Modems can be flashed individually on stock rom from the modem thread .
O2 rolling out Fast Dormancy in the south of UK FD on off app now available on the market .
Google fast dormancy .

(Nearly) all radios are linked in a thread in the General section of the forum.
You can always backup your radio before going to full-stock and flash your radio anew. Radio is a different Processor/SoC than the phone itself so the Radio firmware can be completely different to your phone's.
Altough you should get a backup of the network's FastDormancy settings to make sure they are properly configured in the final version.

My gf likes the firmware original, because she wants to tinker around and flash it all by herself
But you seem to imply that flashing a non-original firmware always includes Root, which is certainly not true for the Samsung-original firmwares without carrier-branding.

Eurpean ATRIX tegra and roms

Hello all xda dev,
i would buy an atrix (version 1) with tegra2 chipset. It's the european model , my question is
- does the atrix european version is the same as atrix 4g ?
- Can i use the ICSROM 1.4 on the atrix european version ?
thanks

Because Motorola killed the phone. You will be stuck with stock Gingerbread roms or unoficial custom roms without hardware acceleration.
The phone has nice specs, it's a damn shame tho.
the atrix actual price is 220 euros and a new cm10 roms seems to have HW accel too with JB

They still have a lot of bugs and it's uncertain if devs can fix it.
Don't get me wrong, I love my phone, but I wouldn't recomend it, at least not till the devs make a 100% stable rom with decent battery life and HWA working. This would never happen with Samsung.
^^^^^^
Not correct. This would happen with any manufacturer, eve Samsung, all except Nexus devices. Do yourself a favour and buy a Nexus, that way you will have an updated software always.

There is ONLY ONE version of Atrix in existance. It might be called different in different regions, but it is still the same device.
Yes, you can install that ROM on an euro-Atrix, just like on any other Atrix.

unless you get the updated version of the atrix (like me). then you wont be able to install any custom rom because you can not unlock the bootloader.

Well yeah, I meant there are no hardware limitations based on a specific geographic region. Locked BL is a software limitation, and also has nothing to do with the device being american or european or whatever.

thats true, but if he is going to buy a new phone he will most likely get one with a locked bootloader.

[Question] Why do we have different firmware for each country?

Hi guys I'm just curious why samsung is doing this? We know that we can flash using other countries rom using odin and it works fine. Why do they need to release official update by each country if we can use any countries rom?

Just to let you know that as long as the Rom/Firmware is for the the I9300 then you can flash it to your device no matter what country it is for.
So for example if the official firmware was for Poland and your device was in the UK then you can flash it.
Hope this clears things up for you.

So that each country has a reason to withhold your warranty if you're found to run a firmware version they don't associate themselves with. I mean, when I had my Gnex, I ran a british firmware on a nordic phone, with a US modem and all worked superbly.
On this GS3, I've run everything from Russian to Egyptian and my phone has never once failed me.

But still, for example, they can have 1 official rom to all unbranded I9300 instead of releasing one by one for each country... This will be less stressful for them and for us (always waiting for an official release for our country)
I wonder what is really their reason...
" Why do we have different firmware for each country?"
Because your phone / provider relationship is country specific (I use an SGS3 i9300 on a T-Mobile UK contract for example) providers (try to) ensure phone / provider / country specific set-ups.
They justify this on the grounds of providing tailored maintenance and support based on known and controlled configurations.
....it works for the masses....not for us more troublesome and independent minded users in the XDA and other communities

Help with china Note 2

Hello everyone.
I just received a phone from a relative in china. It is a Note 2 GT-N7100 version. I am new to modding phones with roms and know nothing about rooting and such. I only want to install this phone back to my local canadian roms (Rogers or telus). Also, this china phone doesnt have any google apps, not even play store. So I want to install the phone back to north american version and get rid of all those chinese apps that comes pre-installed. thanks
Flashing most roms in this forum will solve problems.
