I am currently running jellybeans ver21 on android 4.1.2. Can I just use odin and upgrade the MJ9 firmware then wipe and load new roms using the newest firmware or do I have to go back to stock first?

From what I read (because I have the MJ9), having 4.1.2 with MJ9 can either cause messy problems with some apps and sms/mms/calls/data/etc. or works perfectly fine (usually when you flash a custom ROM).
I haven't done it myself but you're more than welcome to do a complete backup of everything on your phone and flash MJ9.
Best of luck to you.

I went from 4.1.2 and Beans 22. I flashed mj9 with Odin, booted immediately in to recovery and then flashed Alliance 26. It's working perfectly.

Hey there. I'm having trouble upgrading from Android 2.3.7 to 4.3. I want to use CyanogenMod 10.2 and at least according to the gapps download page you need 4.3 to use it. On the stock firmware my Wi-fi doesn't work and it won't let me update Android without being connected to it. In CM7, the WiFi works but I don't see an option to upgrade Android. Is there some way I can upgrade Android without being connected to Wifi, or some way from CM7?
Thanks.

I upgraded mine to 4.3 with supernexus 3 v.1. It's working fine. I did a clean install of 4.1.2 with ATT stock rom through Odin and then flashed Supernexus

Thanks - can you tell me where to find a 4.1.2 stock rom? Or do I have to upgrade Odin Lite to do it?
Also, as a complete and utter noob, I'm just kind of confused as to what the difference is between flashing firmware through Odin versus using Clockwork Mod to install a ROM from SD card? Thanks.

after flashing some of the new 4.3 TW roms i currently have MJ9. if i wanted to go back to MC3 to run older roms do i have to odin back to stock or is there an MC3 zip i can just flash? or even just odin an MC3 file? or is it ok to use MJ9 with any rom? so far i havent noticed any weird happenings using MJ9 on a 4.4 rom
Are you referring to just the Modem/Radios?
Yes

You can download the MC3 modem .zip from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108510
Just flash through recovery like normal. You may or may not need to flash depending on what Rom you go back to, as far as I know the modem isn't version specific.
Had a note 3 but just switched back to my note 2. I am a super noob, but read for a little bit and had originally rooted and unlocked my note 2.
Now that I am using this phone again should I update the software to stock 4.3?
...and if yes how should I do it? can I keep root? can I just odin MJ9 or ND3?
Here are the current phone specs:
4.1.2
baseband version: I605VRAMC3
Kernel version: 3.0.31
rooted and bootloader unlocked (i think I used casual)
crm recovery 6.0.3.0
OTA updates fail because of the custom recovery, but I still have to defer verizon asking to update software once a day...which is way annoying.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Please don't take any OTA updates. You could lock your phone for life.
@theomms
It’s good that you didn’t successfully take the 4.3 stock OTA from Verizon, because it would have locked your bootloader and there's currently no method to unlock it. If you just want to stay on rooted stock 4.1.2, there are ways to stop the OTA notification. A Google search for sdm+stop+OTA+schi605 should give you some help to stop the OTA prompts. I am still on 4.1.2 running Beanstown106's JellyBeans ROM build 22 and I am really happy with it. You can still grab build 22 for 4.1.2 from the link to older downloads on the Alliance ROM's post #1 (Beanstown106 provides a link to his Android File Host where he has all of the older JellyBeans ROM builds. Build 22 was the last one he did for 4.1.2).
If you think you’d prefer to update to rooted 4.3 stock, then that link that Deeked gave you will let you do that and keep an unlocked bootloader. You’ll probably want to update your recovery to a newer version first. The install instructions tell you to ODIN flash the MJ9 firmware, then use your recovery to install the rooted MJ9 stock ROM. I’ve read where people recommend that before installing the ROM, you should go into recovery and wipe data, the dalvik cache, cache, format the system… and then finally install the stock rooted 4.3 ROM from your external SD card. Also, there’s a build prop edit that you’ll need to do to avoid problems with random reboots on stock rooted 4.3 MJ9 — see this post from Beanstown106 where he talks about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49737536&highlight=ro+tima=0#post49737536

I am running alliance rom MJ9, safestrap 4.3 bootloader. I am still on 4.3, can I update to ND7 alliance rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/development/rom-alliancerom-build-27-t2896823) without having to take the OTA to 4.4.2? like can I use my current safestrap and everything(MJ9) and upgrade my rom only to ND7(4.4.2)? I want to be able to run 4.4.2 but still reset my phone back to 4.3 rom after I am ready to get rid of it/sell it, I don't want to UPDATE my PHONE to 4.3 I want to put a ROM on 4.4.2
If you have a locked bootloader and are using Safestrap you cannot flash Alliance build 27 and up. It is because to use safe strap the way it is being used on the Verizon note 2, the rom has to flash over the stock rom, instead of using a rom slot and it is using the stock kernel.
The kernel in the rom you want to flash have to be the same as the stock kernel you are running now or it will not work for you. The kernel in Alliance build 27 and up is incompatible.
