Headphone port not working - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I used the phone in the pool earlier. (Pics and vids were great!) allowed it to fully dry before using the headphone port. It just doesn't work anymore. Could my headphone port be broken? Or should I put it in rice?

get a piece of kitchen roll coil it up so it fits in the jack and dry it off also use some compressed air if you have it. I had the same problem and this fixes it every time

Does it can't work after you put it into pool?
It is possible it happens due to software problem.

Putting it in rice did the trick! It works fine after putting it into the pool. Probably some water didn't get dried up inside the headphone port.

I know this sounds strange, but run it under more water. I'm currently on holiday and been using it in water loads, almost every time I get in the pool, my headphones stop working. I thought maybe it would be crap in the pool water or something so switched it off, ran clean tap water directly into the port, blew the excess out and voila! Worked again. Not sure why but it's happened 3 times now and it's been spot on after a CLEAN water rinse and quick dry.

[Q] Charging without a cable?

Strange happens to me last time with my mobile.
I had to work in rainy day so i putted my phone in a packet
and found that my mobile started to be wet, pulled out and saw a few drops
in USB area, when came home to charge the mobile phone, plugged in the cable
and by mistake i pulled out the cable but the sign in the notifications showed that the phone still charges. that when the strange begins.
Day after, i tried to connect the mobile to PC and no recognition, but it's charges the phone.
when pulling out, still writen that the phone is still in the charger.
what can be wrong?
Dried drying it out?
if you have a hot water cuboard, put it in there in a container with some raw rice, this should draw any moisture out?
It was a little touching there, it's dry from the same day...

anyone have an idea? it's can be fixed?
it sounds like one of the connections in usb port has been damaged by water.
you may need to replace the usb port.
Water in the USB port.dry it out and if that doesnt work then its been damaged when you plugged it in when it was wet possible causing a short circuit.Service centre.

Phone keeps charging after plugin off the charger

so before 2 days my phone was perfectly fine
and now when i charge my phone, it's charging normaly.
and when i plug off the charger from the phone, my phone keeps charging itself.
and i feel like it's draining my battery faster.
is there any solution for it?
Got the same problem since the same day.
Phone rarely able to connect to the PC. Battery indicator keeps blinking (in samsung rom) or showing as if it is charged (in CM9). Phone can't be turn off. Usb keeps disconnecting, making me afraid if something goes wrong when I flash anything with odin PC.
I use speedmod kernel (apollo, actually) and the battery doesn't drain. But still it acts as if it is charged when I turn off the phone.

Had the same problem last summer, I think it's a common fault on the i9100.
Some have been able to fix it by cleaning the usb port, or by gently bending the little piece in there.
That didn't work for me though, had to send it in for repair. They switched the motherboard and usb port.
so my only way to fix it is by sending the phone to repair ?

So you can try cleaning the port on the phone first. Try first with a dry clean toothbrush. If that doesn't work, take out the battery and try cleaning the port with a q-tip and a (little!) bit of isopropyl alcohol. Then let it dry before putting the battery back in. If THAT doesn't work, then you'll need to get the port replaced. You could do it yourself, (I've heard the part costs around $15) or your last option is to send it in for repair.
I wouldn't recommend bending or otherwise moving the little wafer inside the port, however.
I notice that it will continue for a few %, maybe 2-3. It's because the battery gets warn when charging and still continues to until it has cooled down enough. But I don't notice any difference in drain time on mine.

Um... The port you plug the charger or usb cable into? Really the only port on the phone? And clean it the way I already described?

Replacing I717 USB Charging Port and Flex Cable Ribbon

Does anyone have any experience with removing a damaged charging port/flex cable? I made a thread about a week ago saying that mine was messed up and one of the wire strip on the charging slot was broken, but and didn't allow it to connect to my computer for file transfer. I talked to ATT and they said the store couldn't do anything and that I would need to call in. I don't want to take the risk of a huge charge, and found a single order part here www.etradesupply.com/oem-samsung-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-charging-port-flex-cable-ribbon.html
It is cheap, and I have e removed the back of my Note before, and removed most of this piece except for the ribbon, and which I have no idea how to. Are there any resources out there to help me with this? I don't want to mess up a new part trying to install this one.
(PS how do I start a new thread on the desktop site? I couldn't find anywhere to do it and SwiftKey isn't faster than using a real keyboard on my PC lol. I am obviously new)

Youtube is your friend. Watch the video and see the steps it takes. If you feel it's too much then try searching on your local Craigslist for a shop that may be able to fix it.

Has anyone tried replacing just the digitizer on our phones? My friend's LCD is fine, it's just the glass that is cracked.
On my old HTC HD2 the digitizer was glued to the LCD, so swapping it out was pretty tough. I'm wondering if it's the same for this phone.
So it didn't charge also?

Did you receive the part from that supplier? Was it the correct part? I ask because I need the same part for my Note. (Samsung told me that is not a part covered under warranty)

Just to follow up on my own post. I ordered the part, it arrived quickly, and it was DOA Waiting to hear from customer service now.
Be careful doing this I found the new part had the wrong antenna and my reception was gone afterward. Ended up replacing my phone because of that.

its took you that long to get the replacement port?
just replaced mine as well with the ebay one from ezletroniks(or something like that). $15 shipped, arrived in less than a week from California to Wisconsin.
Took around 10 minutes to replace. Charging up fine again which makes me very happy.
So it seems apparent that this is not a singular occurrence by any means, which is a little disheartening. But I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm currently on my 3rd charge port.
Fortunately, there's an awesome place a few miles away (I would trust the tech there with my life...he's fixed everything I've thrown at him thus far) that has been able to replace the part for me each time - but every damn time, it works perfect for about 2 weeks and then it goes back to the way it was before, which is always the same symptom: phone doesn't charge (or stay connected to the PC) unless I push the phone UP from back, and simultaneously push the end of the cable DOWN. And even then, sitting perfectly still, I get a sporadic connection.
Needless to say, the 2 extra OEM batteries/chargers (that you can charge just the battery with) and ADB over WiFi have become my best friends
So I'm wondering: (a) has anyone else had this problem multiple times like I have? And (B) has anyone else experienced the same thing as far as the "manual" method I have to use to keep it charging? I'm trying to, as much as possible, rule out the possibility that there's something else wrong with it
Replaced mine
Got the part, took about 15 minutes to replace. Hardest part was prying the bezel off the phone.
After replacing, putting it back together and making sure everything worked, I put the old port under a 30X loop to look at it.
on the board side, where the pins exit the plug, and go to the circuit boar, if you flex the port, I could see the pins LIFTING
off the pins on the board at the solder connection. If I had a micro solder iron & steady hand it would be a simple fix, but
since it took a 30X loop just to see it, and I don't have a micro iron, it was easier to spend less than 15 bucks, and 20 minutes
time to replace the thing :victory:

That's actually exactly what the repair shop told me was wrong with it...although I couldn't recall exactly until you said this. I'm pretty sure he's just re-soldered if each time, and never actually replaced the board.
So to a non-hardware person...is that problem due to faulty manufacturing/poor quality parts on the Samsung end? Or does that just end up happening to all devices with a MicroUSB connection as they get used?

I have a couple of guesses. One picture showed the connector was loose. It looks to me that the case tabs aren't soldered in. The other thing is I have one cable where the metal part sticks so far out that the plastic never touches the phone. It like sticking a screwdriver in the socket because you can wiggle the socket up and down. I now use a cable the plastic part touches the phone and doesn't wiggle the socket very easily. Wiggling any wire will eventually break it because of metal fatigue.

USB Port Loose/Clogged?

Hey guys, quick question or two:
Is it normal for the USB plug not to be plugged completely in? As in, I can see some metal still exposed when I plug in the USB cable. If I put the slightest pressure on the plug downwards (while phone is face-up), charging ceases.
Any effective (and safe) way of cleaning up the USB port? I wonder if cleaning it last time with a toothbrush might've bent the lip inside the port a bit, so that the connection is a bit more fussy...
Thanks! Rock on DNA fans. :good:
The usb cord isn't suppose to hang out. It should have a tight fit.
Thanks for the reply.
I wonder if missing the USB cover is making looks deceiving. There's about a 2mm gap seen between the body of my phone and the USB plug on the underside. Also, it's actually when I lift the plug a bit with the phone facing up that it stops charging. Though that detail doesn't matter I'm sure, poor contact is poor contact.

I can't take it anymore... I use the usb port too much so I ripped off the cover... Besides, the rubber ring is already coming off the flap as expected... Magnetic charging sucks and even then i use the usb to transfer... Can't do that with the magnet charging connection...

The more I used it the more it pulled the rubber away from the flap making it harder to close. I knew this would happen and why waterproofing is a nice ide, but not ideal at least in this execution... I've never had to worry about water getting to my devices because I'm that careful with them so It's not really an issue for me. #knockonwood

I lost my ZU's USB rubber seal after 6 months. Got it replaced under warranty.
Now I charge my phone just once a day and transfer files over Wi-Fi (or just before/after I charge my phone) to avoid opening/closing the USB port a lot.
I also keep the rubber seal area clean with nano cleaner. Its been 6 months since I got replacement and the seal looks fine. You have to take care of it. I have never clicked any underwater photos thou. But its easier to clean the phone directly under the tap. :good:

This is a good option and if you think you need to use the USB cable to transfer stuff and it is the only way, you could use one of the many transfer and sync programs that use WiFi to send files (es file explorer does a fine job and even wireless adb would do the trick).

Second this. I wouldn't need to use microUSB unless I need to ADB
I have a magnet charging adapter and a cradle... 3 problems with this though... 1. The magnet sucks (tried to go for the strongest one) and if you touch it slightly it stops charging.
2. The magnet must be attached one way only no flipping it.
3. I have an over head holder and the magnet options will not work because of this or the previous reasons I mentioned above. I gladly take any other suggestions though.
Oh and wireless transfer s are painfully @#&$ing slow... I've either been taking the sd card out or using an extra sd card for later transfer. Why is this an issue? I transfer THAT much video content more than once throughout the day... (no... It's not porn...)
