Hello my dear friends and Samsung users,
How are you doing? I've been happy since the day I switched from Iphone 5 to Samsung S3. But now I need a bit of your help and some advice of a pro.
Look, I got a Samsung SIII GSM loaded with the newest Omega ROM Custom and a Avast! Secure software on background. It's rooted and also ready for being used.
I'm not really happy with the custom ROM though, so I describe below what I'm looking for. Perhaps you can help me:
- I need a lot more performance and speed, I want to push to its limits. Currently it reacts not as fast as I want when I go to unlock screen and unlock it for example. I also want to run apps and important tasks much more faster and effectively. Better than an Iphone 5.
- I don't care about battery usage and drain. It's absolute unimportant, I want more performance instead.
- ROM doesn't matter either, as long as it can help me to perform very satisfying performance.
I use my device a lot, when it comes to gaming, surfing on the internet, camera and chatting with friends using What's app. So you can imagine why I want all that.
I'm not really sure what to do, there are so many ROMs and Apps that can improve performance. I'm not sure, which one is the most recommended though, so I really need your help.
I also use apps such as CPU Tuner, SD-Booster, AutoKiller Memory, CacheMate but isn't that dispensable? I mean, custom ROM do already have these functions included, don't they?
Please help me
So your basically asking which is the best ROM? That is a big no no in these forums please read the rules.

Try overclocking. It helped me.
closed, we don't allow comparison threads. try a few roms and see for yourself
So i just switched to Tmobile and got myself a shinny ATT Note. tried flashing a few roms. CM10.1 Avatar, Jedi, Blackstar, and a few kernels, Phase and Uber, and even a few radios.
so my question? is this phone slow for everyone? it crawls way to often, to the point of instability. lags overall.
thought it be alot better, coming off an EVO, EVO 3D, Galaxy Nexus LTE, this just seems like ive made the wrong choice.
its possible its just mine? if so gotta know so i can dump it!!
Did you do clean installs? My phone is back on a stock debloated att ROM and its doesn't fly but its pretty stable and smooth. I've had some really laggy Roms but I would start with at least a stock based ROM. Then search for a stable jb rom. I was on padawn and beanstalk and a few other Roms that where fairly smooth.

I experience no lag. I came from the HTC inspire and there is no comparison. I test out between 7500 - 8000 using the Carbon ROM, without over clocking my CPU or GPU.

I want to say it could be the way he is flashing or not whipping for a fresh install. Or also could be the Roms he flashed.

did you test all governor/ I/O scheduler combonations. all phones react differently to diff setups. if not using the best setup for your phone you will get an insane amount of lag. but choose right and it will fly. my phone likes fantasy/sio/1728/384
I would not call the galaxy note a rocket ship! Some ROMS start out relatively speedy and then lag over time and require frequent reboots to free up system resources. I have found the debloated stock JB rom to be the best combination of performance and stability. It does what I need it to do, when I need it to do it.
The stock JB kernel is more stable than the phase kernel. I wouldn't bother flashing that if you are on TW based JB. The UBER kernel had great performance on the AOSP and CM based roms, but the ROMs themselves had some stability issues and other fuctionality issues. If I were you, I would do a complete ODIN flash back to stock, then start from there...root, recovery.....etc
Then see if you are still having the same issues.
The Note both fast AND slow...it just depends on what you are comparing it to.
I had my i717 side by side with my i9000 (Galaxy S1) last night...both are running SlimBean...I have JD's UBER kernel on the i717 overclocked to 1.8GHz...stock kernel on the i9000 (1GHz). The i717 was WAY faster than the i9000.
Then I had the i717 beside my brand new, bone stock, still bloated i337M (Galaxy S4)...and the S4 blew the Note out of the water.
Odin is worth the try. i never do dirty installs. always install APKs with no data restores. full wipes of everything but sdcard, been using Goomanager to do most of my flashes with TWRP 2.6.1 , but also doing it manually.
I've had my Note since the beginning of May and I can't say it's a laggy device. My experience has been that the Samsung ROMs are lagier than the AOSP or CM based ROMs but are more stable. On average with a Samsung ROM, I have about 200Mb of free memory where as with the AOSP or CM ROMs I get about 300Mb free.
A super fast ROM I can recommend for you is Carbon. Very fast ROM. Have it also on my Samsung Nexus S and it is really smooth.
Anyways, aside of the performance, the Note has awesome features that you won't find on other phones (or tablets )
Also might want to backup your data from your sd card and format it as well. Ive seen corrupted files on the ext sd card cause rom performance issues.

WOW, slow down and breathe........................
you make it sound as if you have flashed all this in about a 6 hour time span.
how long have you had the Note?
how much of a chance did you give ROM's to settle in?
your flashing kernals too? right kernel with right ROM?
again, are you giving that a chance to settle?
AOSP ROM's are fast and a lot of options, usually sacrificing stability
Touchwiz is going to give you stability and with Trickster mod, I get NO lag at all. never a reboot either
my phone has never run better than it does on Padawan.
Hey,
I'm very new to rooting flashing and all of this but I learn fast.
Originally came here because I was disappointed with my S3 and how it is working so I googled, knew a thing or two about rooting, rooted almost a week ago then a day after I was flashing my very first rom.
My first rom was S4 revolution v12 I liked it but after a while - not very long while - I have experienced lagging and dull responding just like what I had with my stock rom.
Then I said so what I'll flash another and another. Again, googled best rom and knew that there is no such a thing but my eyes captured Cyanogenmod and I said ok I'll give it a try and I did.
Now I'm running cm11 M3 and the device is speedy, no lagging what so ever, actually experinced multi tasking for my first time - multi tasking with stock rom is a lie - and finally I felt like hey that is what I actually wanted.
Had to do some changes to be honest - not to the rom don't get me wrong I'm not that smart - but I had that android keyboard with the number row I love it. Hated that google launcher and its ugly icons so now I'm using KK launcher and few other things and that's it.
Now to my question. In this little short adventure of mine I have experienced two diffrent roms well, three actually counting the stock rom and the stock rom was awful, S4 revolution v12 was quite good but not that speedy and cm11 that pushed my S3 to its limits. My question is - in terms of speed, performance and no lagging - what was holding the device back and what made it as fast as it now with cm11?
I mean is it the rom itself, maybe the kernel if I even understand the term well, the samsung heavy Touchwiz or maybe the samsung apps? I need to understand because it'll help me choose between roms and kernels and really have what I want.
P.S English in not my native language so if you'll correct me be nice

Since the time Samsung Galaxy series phone were launched, over the years, this has been a problem with Samsung stock ROMs.
The device would be fast without lags for some period of time and then it starts lagging.
I am no expert, but in my experience, its the Bloatware and many unnecessary features that Samsung puts in its ROMs.
This is the reason Samsung ROMs are usually heavy about 1GB
These apps/features hog up the cache memory over time and takes up system memory.
this causes the lags and freezes (well, at least in my case it was always).
As opposed to this, in CM11 or AOSP ROMs in general are bare bones ROMs which are based on pure android.
this is the reason they are light about 200 MB + 150+ MB for gapps.
less bloat, lesser cache used and lesser lags.
Well this is my inference from my experience with Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S3.
Someone can correct me technically if I am wrong.

So if I'm in love with samsung apps I should live with a slow and low performance roms whether they are stock or custom?

That is the problem with sammy roms, there's too much bloat and garbage. But there are some ways you can make it slightly better:
1- You can use a de-bloating app (search XDA) and remove unwanted apps for a better performance. But this is not recommended for new users or those who have less experience.
2- You can root your device and use Titanium Backup to freeze un-needed apps/services. Sometimes freezing an app can give you errors so you can defrost them safely, no worries. The apps are not deleted, but they are just hidden from the system.
3- Use an app like Greenify (Donate version recommended) and make them hibernate. Donate version can even freeze system apps like Google Play etc and this is one of the easiest/safest way to speed up your phone and reduce lag. (Need Xposed module to freeze system apps)
4- Use a custom Rom like Resurrection KK (but some camera issues) for fantastic performance.
5- Learn to forget Samsung apps There are better apps out there.

Hi
Which rom for the LG G2 international version is most fastest, smoothest and most stable at the moment? I am currently running the stock rom that came with the phone and i am finding it a bit laggy and jittery when.opening apps, closing apps, scrolling, gaming etc. I wanted one that runs like a nexus 5 smooth and fast and good performance on games. Please recommend me a rom.
Thankyou in advance!!
I am on stock 4.4.2 and I find it not laggy at all. I did come from a HTC One X however.
XDA frowns on Rom recommendations, so I doubt you will get an answer.

I am not sure if which is best rom posts are allowed.
However to quickly answer your questions I am on jelly bean stock rom rooted and look at my antutu score in signature.
ps - I kid you not that score is definitely visible when using the phone it flies along without any lag others will disagree with this.
As always YMMV.
Best of luck.
We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. The question is subjective everyone has their own needs and usages. SO what's best for yo may not be what's best for someone else. Best advice is to head over to the development section try some out and see which best suits your needs.

So... First of all, I'm not asking for the best ROM.
At the moment, I'm using ArchiDroid v2.5.2 on my i9300, and it's fast, but... Random reboots, and the camera quality it's not the same as in the 4.3 ROM's.
What I want is a ROM with no random reboots, with the best camera quality and of course, as fast as AOSP or even faster
So... Which ROMs (and kernel) do you guys recommend?
I'm tired of switching between 4.4.x ROMs, all of them have bugs. The Note2 ports are laggy (even though everybody is saying that these ROMs are smooth as butter) and AOSP have the problems that I've mentioned before.
Help me, please
Best/Recommend Roms/kernels threads are not allowed on XDA, try them yourself and decide.
If I were to recommend you I would say ArchiDroid or NeatRom

Abort the Samsung laggy and almost useless world, choose AOSP roms.
I can propose you the only AOSP rom tried: CyanogenMod 11.
Download the latest M release (more stable than nightlies).
Note that there are some minor bugs, a 4.4 "perfect" system for S3 actually doesn't exist.
Then... the better kernel is BOEFFLA, useless to say [emoji6]
Download the related app (the latest BOEFFLA Config-v2 apk), choose zzmove or pegasusqplus as governor, while as scheduler choose sio.
To boost your phone, have fun with all the kernel parameters, CyanogenMod is considered the better rom, all other AOSP roms are based on CM source code, useless to change os.

A wildly sweeping and inaccurate statement if ever there was one.
There are some exceptional stock based ROMS out there, with very good performance, good battery life and stock features that you don't get in AOSP which many people like to have (also from what i've seen, the stock Camera app gives better pictures too)

I tried Android Revolution HD: at first was moving better than stock rom, but when I began to use hardly my device... too many lags and terrible slowdowns.
Caused mainly by the unremovable TouchWiz.
Using another launcher, the heavy TouchWiz works ever, for different reasons than the simple use of launcher.
You can remove all the bloatware, make lots of optimizations... but TouchWiz will "eat" your RAM (only 1 GB on I9300 and lots of its variants) and never you'll be able to quietly use so many apps as in AOSP roms.
On CyanogenMod, Trebuchet can be completely replaced by other launchers, unthinkable thing on a Samsung rom.

You tried one other stock based ROM and made your conclusion from that alone?
Each to their own, but I've used enough versions of CM on enough devices over the years to know the pros and cons, and personally on the S3 I can get a most satisfactory level of performance and battery life from a stock derived ROM whilst not losing any of the additional functions.

Totally agree with the first thing, then you told a bull****, you based your "fictitious reason" on a my partial citation at your leisure.
To prevent misconceptions and "abuse" of what I said in the topic, @hundred_miles_high forget to explain that according to me, the stock roms "compatibility" is limited only to Samsung devices.
With BubbleUPnP and similar (you should know them), stock roms become completely useless... or you need the 2-way call recording? [emoji6]
OP dislikes (as everyone) forced reboots, and need a good camera quality. If the suggested rom is poorer in any other term respect to AOSP systems, it doesn't matter.
Is this your reasoning?
With CyanogenMod 11, the terrible 10.2 camera experience was aborted.
Stability is guaranteed, also if the releases are snapshots, more than 6 months of developing.

Why would a Samsung ROM be compatible with anything other than a Samsung phone? This is after all the SAMSUNG S3 forum isn't it, thought it would be pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain the context it was used in.
I don't understand your ramblings about BubbleUPNP but Bubble and Sempervid links work fine on my stock derived ROM - I use them regularly with youtube/tubemate , streaming web content and media on my other devices to play direct to my TV (or xbox or nexus 7 for that matter) through my S3.
Ran out of interest with rest of your post due to your rudeness, but maybe you should check the CM11 M9 thread in regard to complaints of poor sound quality in the camera app...........

Yes, I was a bit hard in my answer, because you hurted me with your presumption and falsity to report properly my citation.
"This is after all the Samsung S3 forum"
With this stupid aforism you have damned lots of users who run a different rom.
I propose you to browse with brain (I dubt you know how use it, almost in this context) any S3 support forum, and see how many people use, speak and receive support about CyanogenMod, SlimKat, PacRom, etc.
And you are the first user who compare, even consider better a stock rom than AOSP... in terms of performance.
I hope you are joking.
"Ran out (...) Samsung devices"
You won't recognize the mistake (if not intentional) when you reported partially my famouscited my famous citation.
The truth is that you braved me since replying my first post: this is a topic where OP required "suggestions" (do you know this term?) from each user, not debates, nor topic wars.
Reread the topic, reflect about and get out, you told enough.
