[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 Dead - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I was using my phone few days back and it got switched off on its own and never came back to life.
I showed it to a service center and they say the phone is dead. There is nothing they can do to repair it and the motherboard will have to be replaced.
Anyone has any suggestions?
I don't believe these guys tried to repair it.
Thanks,

You know, you may be right. Maybe they just looked at it and said this thing is screwed. Or, they took the time to try to do something. Either way. First things first. Can you tell us if the phone shows a charging image when it is plugged in? If so, step two. Does the phone go into download mode? That is, hold down the down on the volume while holding the middle button on the face of the phone, while pressing the power button to turn it on. Dont hold the power button after you see the booting screen.

The LED indicator is not active as well.
It just looks like sitting in a coffin right now.
It has been only 13 months since I bought it.

If a usb jig doesn't work then new motherboard required.

Probably, those guys weren't just fooling you then, you really need a new motherboard.

[Q] Phone will not turn on NEED HELP PLEASE

Hi I just recently bought an HTC HD2 and I got it used. I checked out the phone pretty well and it worked fine when I purchased it. I got home and the battery was dying and eventually died before I got a chance to charge it. So I left it on the charger, the LED light came on and was flashing as if it was charging so I went out for a bit. Once I came back I noticed the LED wasn't on anymore so I tried to start up the phone and the phone wouldn't turn on. I took out the battery and put it back in still nothing. I've even tried using a different battery and still have the same results. I talked to T-mobile and they said to try going into boot mode by powering up holding both volume keys and the power button and I cant get it to start up at all. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong?

When battery is charging the LED does not flash. Normally it just lights in orange. Are you sure that the second battery you used was well charged? Take a tester and measure the voltage on the battery pads - it must show some 3.8 volts. You may check also if your battery is charging on some other phone to confirm that it is healthy before to decide that phone is dead.

just shows what tmo customer support know, , , thats a hard reset they've described, not entering bootloader.
Ok so on my lunch break I went to the t-mobile store and told them my problem, for some reason they were able to get my phone to somewhat charge and start up. So its for sure the battery. I have no idea why the secondary battery I used had no effect on the phone. After work I'm going to go find a new battery and hopefully this will solve the problem. I'll keep you guys posted.

Mysteriously bricked Active

Hi guys,my brother has the active, and today he just found it dead in his pocket. No turn on,no lights, just a small vibration bump when holding the power key.Any clues?
I've changed battery,SEUS won't detect the phone. However,Flashtool detects a SE phone when I'm holding the volume key.
It was never rooted, just stock firmware.
Any clues?Please help

This thread should go in general not development.
Now i would say that if he never modified the phone and if it still have warranty to take it to a sony ericsson service center that would be his best option.
Try taking the battery out for a few minutes, and by a few i mean something like 5 minutes, then try turning it on.

Remember to try to turn it on, while the battery is out... that will help to drain the capacitors for energy.

just kidding i think there's something wrong from factory and if he don't want to take it back for me the next step will be to try and flash generic firm using wotan server.
Because smaller brother's tend to lie, and since this is a waterproof phone, before sending it to get fixed, make sure that the humidity stickers on the inside of the phone and on the battery are still white and not pink/red.

And if in service they notice, that phone was opened before?

What? You dont have to unscrew anything to see them. The one on the phone is just on top of the SD card, and the battery one is visible with the battery inserted, from the gap that the Sim card hole has.
Be cool guys,I've "interrogated" him,and I don't think he done anything.
Stickers are fine, and the phone is just 3 months old.Well,it's going to service on Monday. It's just so strange to die like that.
By the way, yesterday in the evening it started to blink red.I've put it on charger and the led soon became yellow, but hte phone still won't turn on.I've replaced the battery with a fresh 100% one from my X8,and still no effect. The battery from the Active is also fine,my X8 works with it,and it's about 70%.
What happens after the vibration during the power button?

HELP?! Dead Evo LTE

Ok so I got in my car one day, checked my phone.. about 50% charge. I plugged it in to the car charger by habit. The screen turned off, so i thought it was just the display timer. But when I realized my settings are for it NOT to turn off while charging I pressed the power button...no response. In fact, there was no charging light! So ive tried different chargers, usb, everything even holding the power button down for 10secs-2 minutes and no response! This is the first time I've actually had a phone without insurance or sprint's replacement thingy (yes now ive learned my lesson). I cant send it in to HTC because my screen cracked (1st lesson) which voids the warranty. Ive just opened it and replaced the battery thinking that's the problem but apparently not.
Now that my rant is over, does anyone have an idea, solution and/or fix for this? and I've attached pics of some concerning dark spots on the connections. Is that normal or could the charger have burned up the connection(s). Do i need a new phone or can just the port/connections be replaced? I am LOST without my phone lol

my phone does same, 100% battery. next thing i know it won't turn on (power on) no matter how long i hold power button.
not even showing charge light, believe it's hard bricked.
send in to be fixed for $60, not sure if it can be .
Plug it into its wall charger and leave it alone for 6-8 hours. Its happened to others before.
That may fix it. some think its a super deep sleep or something.

Hi,
Have you tried holding down volume up+volume down+power at the same time for a while? That usually resets the phone and you can get back into recovery. Worth a shot. I hope you get it fixed brother.

Stock Desire X will not power up

Hey all,
Phone is completely stock never got into flashing roms or anything. Had to ring up my provider to turn on my internet access. They asked me to restart my phone. I held the power button down menu came up, I selected power off phone. From then I have been unable to power it back on.
When left on charge overnight charging LED is orange never turns green.
Tried holding down power button for 10 secs,30 secs nothing.
Tried holding down volume button + power button, nothing.
Tried pressing the button inside the phone when cover off, took out battery basically tried everything possible.
Figuring it might be the battery since when I checked it with a Volt meter the battery was reading 2.9 volts where it should be 3.8v.
Took out my battery from my Incredible S and flipped it since the polarities are different, phone did not respond. I bought a new battery for it anyway just to make sure but they sent me the wrong one that also has the polarity in reverse so flipped it and nothing either. This battery is 3.7v instead of 3.8v but in any case this should probably not make any difference.
The phone just refuses to power on with no signs of malfunction before that.
Anybody have any ideas?

Bummer and it is still under warranty but the problem is I am in Australia at the moment (bought in Europe) Would send to relatives but can't find invoice.
So I am out of luck. I spoke with HTC technical support they were absolutely useless, knew less than me. Last time I ever buy a HTC. Incredible S speaker died about 2 months after warranty. Now this with the Desire X, I guess spending $300+ on a phone gets you about 12 months use and you can throw away, great....
Is there anyway to flash new firmware onto the phone even without being able to power it up? When I connect the phone to PC nothing happens nothing it recognized on PC that anything is plugged in.

Maim board not for sale for phones normally...what iam doing is,check warranty first coz this fault covered by warranty even if u dont have receipt service centres have to fix it. If out of warranty look for broken phone online swap main board carefully. Not difficult..
Yeah for 150 euro not worth the money rather buy an LG. I will try and get it fixed under warranty but I know in Czech if you don't have receipt they don't talk to you. Would have thought they would have the serial number in database along with date of purchase.

My Moto Z died.

i had my phone in my pocket, pulled it out and did some browsing. i changed my zooper widget, clicked the power button to put it to sleep and put it in my pocket. i pulled it out about 5 seconds after i put it in my pocket and the phone is completely dead. doesn´t respond to power button or any of the button combos i have tried (power + vol down / power + vol up) and doesn´t get detected on my pc or in fastboot. i was very gentle with the phone when putting it in my pocket and while pulling it out. i have no idea why this might have happened and it looks brand new on the outside. i was running AOKP and i have had no issues what so ever before. and charging shows no sign of life either, is it a software or hardware problem? and is it fixable in any way? since i live in northern sweden there is no shops or people that do repairs for this phone.

That means your battery died and you're gonna have a hard time connecting it. But it will connect eventually. Connect it to your PC and press the vol down+power button for 2 minutes. If it doesn't pop up then keep trying until it detects it. And when it does.. run the blank flash file and leave the phone in bootloader for atleast 10 minutes it more for the battery to charge, before flashing any rom.

I work with a phone shop, yes when we send the phones to the service center they will find out if you unlocked the bootloader in official way, even if its bricked. Only on a few dev devices or unsecured/cracked bootloader they won't find out.
thanks for the answers! but i still don't understand why it got bricked... it was functioning perfectly and just straight out of no where just dies? i have read that this has happened on other motorola phones. is it my fault that the phone broke? or is it due to some kind of failure of the phone / motorola?

I today got the phone back from the repair shop. It Said on the website that i would have to pay IF the warranty was void and that they would send me an email so that we could agree on a Price before they repair the phone. But they Never sent me an email and i did not get a Bill with the phone, so i think i got it for free. It says on the note that they changed out the motherboard.
