First time in XDA Developers. Pro-ful name enough to solve my problem.
I bought my GS3 from a guy and its touchscreen and the touch buttons on the bottom weren't working. After I put it to full-charge, it started working (but the bottom touch buttons still didn't work). However, that day I was playing Plague Inc. (seriously), and suddenly it just got stuck there. I felt it heating so much but I turned it off and on. Then the screen just didn't work. I tried firmware upgrade by Kies, Odin download mode with firmware upgrade (both 4.3 which didn't work and 4.4.2 which worked but did nothing to the screen).
Now, some of you will say that it's a hardware defect, but I strongly disagree. Are there any workarounds? I tried the battery stuff, taking out those stickers in the phone and putting them to their places. To no avail, unfortunately.
I also believe it's rooted, but I didn't do it myself.
Take it back to the guy, it's broken.

I'm using an HD2 on T-Mobile, still running the stock Windows. (haven't gotten around to slapping android on yet)
A.) ... was at work today, took the phone out of my pocket, and I couldn't get the screen to go on. The hardware buttons on the bottom would go on, and I could feel it vibrating and booting up when I powered it on, but after hard resetting(removing the battery, I mean) the screen still wouldn't go on.
.....so I go home with it powered on still, pull it out of my pocket and BAM! the screen goes on and it looks normal... but....
1.) Now the bottom 5 hardware buttons won't go off when I lock the phone. Sometimes they're dim, sometimes they're bright as if I'm using it. sometimes they flicker on and off.
2.) the screen won't brighten beyond 20%. It adjusts 10-20% fine, but sliding it from 20%-100% does nothing.
3.)In addition, whenever I hook it up to a PC to charge/transfer files, I SOMETIMES get the "This Device would work faster in USB 2.0" message. that I never got before these issues. This is confirmed by slow transfer speeds when this happens(400-600kb/s instead of the normal 3-5mb/s). This leads me to believe it could be something internal in the phone...
Worth taking to T-Mobile? Not sure what they can do for free, I bought it used about a month ago.
I Tried a factory reset recently, didn't do anything to help these problems.
I tried running it on another battery, same issues.
Think putting android on it could help any?
XDA Devs is the best around for this type of thing, so I figure there's someone on here who could give some advice. I love the phone, but these problems are awful! Thanks so much!
try re-flashing the stock ROM first (factory reset might be not enough), then if the symptoms reappear I'd think of warranty repair
Hi folks
Just inherited a very worn out one year old Xperia X10 from my son. Been trying to resurrect it.
About 2 or 3 months ago the touchscreen started to become non-responsive occasionally. Admittedly, I didn't look at it for him at the time. Then he dropped it down the loo (think - hope! - there was only water in it at the time). We dried it out in the hotpress and it worked ok but still with intermittent touchscreen not working.
He got a Blackberry from Santa, so a couple of weeks ago I inherited the Xperia. The screen was cracked in several places and totally non-responsive. Rather than chuck it in the bin, I thought I'd try and fix it up. So I bought a new screen on ebay and the other night I dismantled it and fitted the new screen. Touchscreen is still totally non-responsive. There was a slight rust on the perforated metal plate at the back of the screen which I carefully cleaned with WD40. All the connections and circuits look ok. I've updated it successfully on both PC Companion and SEUS.. I've also tried flashing using instructions from this forum but cannot get it right (most flashtool symbols greyed out). I have a feeling that it's a simple problem but just can't get there. The screen display is fine, I can get the camera and the keyboard up using the buttons. But damned if I can get the touchscreen to work. I feel the problem harks back to when the screen was intermittent - it still worked after the water/screenbreak, but not that well.
Anybody got any ideas or should I bin it? (Can't seem to get any worthwhile advice on the WWW - happened upon this forum while searching and thought - "This is my MAN". (One suggestion I saw on the web was to try a new battery - can't see how this would make a difference, present battery working fine. Also, I wondered if the proximity sensor could be on all the time?)
I can leave my phone plugged in and charging and quickly check a text message and reply, and my phone will be fine. But if I try to use my phone any more than that, the display gets strange artifacts (it's different every time, ranging from a dark grid overlayed on top of the image to the screen filled with different colors on each pixel) and sometimes the speaker emits a constant loud high pitched noise, even if it's on silent. I noticed one of the times that the sleep button worked, but using the touch screen and the capacitive buttons is impossible and I have to yank out the battery every time it happens. I'm running a recent CM10.1 nightly and default kernel, and I've experienced this problem independent of which nightly or kernel I'm using for the past few weeks (I have had no problems in the recovery menu). It even crashed one time upon boot up when I tried to unlock the phone immediately. Another minor problem is that my home screens got screwed up one of the times it crashed. It seems like a hardware failure to me. I'm wondering if anyone has seen this problem or has any ideas that might help. Thanks.
It certainly sounds like a hardware issue to me. I have not seen anything similar reported on these forums. Is the phone currently stock, or custom firmware? The best test to see if the problem is firmware or hardware related is to flash a fresh stock firmware using Odin3. If the problem goes away, then it is obviously a firmware issue.
If it is a hardware problem, you may have trouble flashing a fresh stock firmware, or may not be able to at all. Or if you are able to flash a new stock firmware, but the problem does not go away, then it is probably hardware.
I have a Galaxy S3 that I have been running CM 10.2 on for quite some time. Today I dropped the phone and cracked the screen. The phone still worked perfectly in every way despite the cracked screen. I used it for a few hours after without any issues. I took it to someone today to replace the screen assembly. When I got the phone back it turns on and the screen looks fine but it hangs on the samsung screen for 3-5 minutes before booting in to anything (booting the rom, recovery mode, download mode etc. all take 3-5 minutes to start) when the phone finally boots the touch screen does not work at all. All buttons work fine, including the bottom buttons (back and settings) for touch but no where else does the screen respond to touch.
So far I've tried:
- wiping cache
- factory reset
- re-installed CM 10.2 rom
- Took the back off the phone and checked all the connections, unclipped and clipped back in to be sure they were connected ok.
- Completely removed battery and all sim/sd cards for an hour
At this point I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a hardware issue (maybe they guy screwed something up when replacing the screen) or the digitizer/screen he used is faulty? I know this doesn't neccessarily mean anything but when I got it back the new screen still had the protective film etc. on it so I'm almost positive the screen assembly the guy used was at least new.
And I don't really understand where the 3-5 minute boot issue could come from? I wouldn't think it would be related to the screen/digitizer but I suppose anything is possible. What could explain this?
Is there any way this could be a software issue or any other troubleshooting I can attempt?

Very strange, but it looks like it was indeed a software issue after all. For some reason changing the screen out while having CM 10.2 installed did not play well together. I did a full wipe and went back to stock rom and touch is working now. I may try a new install of CM again to see what happens. Odd

Strange issue.. never had it ever, m flashing CM from more than a year.. Try to do a new flash downloading new files..
Hi all,
so i have an issue with my p9000. There is a "dead" zone on my screen, it's about 1.5cm wide and covers the screen from left to right.
This part of the screen stopped working a few days ago, it's not responding to touch. Rest of the phone is fine, everything works as it should.
Can this be because of some wrong settings in screen size in rom or any other settings, or is the screen most likely dead ?
Seems like there is a faulty batch
I got that problem too.
Mine is on Eragon ROM and part of the screen is unresponsive in applications other than the Nova Luancer.
My device has the same issue. Try to zap repeatedly the dead part of the screen with a piezoelectric tool, such as a mosquito bite relief device or a lighter. Works form me, but it's only a temporary solution. The issue comes out again from time to time.
So it looks like a device issue then. Was hoping for software error.
i have the same problem. It is not software error unfortunately. Looks like a faulty batch to me too.
I use Eragon and was dealing with the same issue. Then suddenly it disappeared. After flashing an update it came back and then it disappeared again. Since then everything is fine
Ok, now this problem is permanent. I talked with Banggood and will send it back to the service.
So I've sent one email to elephone support department. They were offering me a 15$ discount. Was very surprised. Anyhow during further conversation they have agreed to fix the device. I will send it as soon as I get another device I can use daily.
