Does anybody ever actually get a refurb that lasts?

A week ago today, I had to go to Verizon because my Eris (the original one I got from Verizon) had a blown speaker. They replaced it on the spot with another Eris, which until last night, was working wonderfully. For whatever reason and out of nowhere, the top 1/3 of the screen stopped working. Everything showed up, but you could not navigate anything with that part of the screen.
This morning, I got there bright and early and they replaced THAT Eris with yet another refurbished one. I've seen so many people go through so many refurbs that are "certified" like new.
Does anybody actually have a refurbished Eris that has lasted a long time, and if not what does a guy have to do to get Verizon to give me a different kind of phone?
I am on my second refurb. I've had this one for about two months. The first refurb lasted two months. So I am keeping my fingers crossed this one will last until the Thunderbolt is available and then I'll upgrade.
Nope. Went through five Storms, two Tours, two eris', one droid, five Droid 2s, and three fasincates. Sounds terrible, but I honestly didn't do anything to any of them. Of course not ALL of these were mine (all but the tour and eris were). Every time it was a screen issue (like the one you mentioned), a speaker blown, a mic broken, call quality shoddy, or external buttons not working.
No. They never last. Granted I've been on my current fascinate since November-ish (hate the thing), I don't expect it to last as the first fasincate I had fried itself along with my SD card..
That's kinda what I figured. My wife has gone through four droids now. I think their "certified" boxes should say "turdified". That, and I noticed the sticker on the inside is green and says void. Hope they don't try to pin that on me at some point!
I've had my current eris since this summer. The one before was replaced right before they started giving droid 2s and now this one won't break

Haha! No kidding! I keep reading about people getting a Droid 2 and I'm wondering how many Eris' I have to go through before somebody throws me a bone! I like my Eris, but would honestly rather have something else now, since I know it's all down hill in refurb hell.
I "lucked" out in late July or early August when my Eris' speaker was blown (it already had the trackball issue, but I was coping with that). I found a local Verizon store that still had a new Eris in stock, and they gave it to me so I didn't have to get a proper refurb. Haven't had any problems with it so far (crossing fingers). I might've seen a hint of the trackball problem just recently, but I think it just popped out to say "hi" to me because it hasn't happened again since.
My first Eris had a trackball issue after a few months. Ever since then I have been using a refurb and it hasn't had any problems at all. This one has been going strong for quite a while now.
My first eris was a little over a year old and they replaced it because of calls not connecting properly. A know issue at the time. My replacement has been just fine and I've had if for about 6 months.
Went through three eris's and this is my second d2. Haven't had any problems with it yet but who knows.

When I jumped on the 2.1 leak, I had my eris replaced with a refurb so I could root. I've had my refurb since root was discovered. It's been awhile and still going strong.

I went through 5 Droid Eris's before Verizon replaced it with a Droid 2, and I had problems getting them to give me that. I had to threaten to buy out my contract and told them if they dared send me another Eris, I was buying out the day it came. They agreed to upgrade me, but then canceled the order as soon as i ordered a battery and charger and got off the phone with them. The second time I was on the phone with them to get them to reinstate the order, I once again told them that I was no longer confident they could send me an Eris that would last and I was very serious about switching to Sprint.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the Eris and wished I still had one (I love the custom rom world of the Eris, kind of funny the Eris got a version of Gingerbread before the Droid 2 has). I just could no longer deal with having to replace the phone every other month and having to set the thing up and customize it to my liking.
Im on my 2nd refurb. My orig eris trackball died. 1st refurb vz gave me the mic didn't even work. Runnin strong on kaosfroyo v39 now on 3rd eris. Being extremely careful when plugging in.

To update, my wife got a Droid 2 with her early upgrade so now I'm using her Droid 1...My son has been playing games on the Eris, which I had unrooted before calling Verizon, thinking they'd MAYBE finally give me a better replacement. They didn't and basically told me to take it to the store if I kept having problems.
My son stayed at his grandmother's house last night and took the phone with him. When he comes home, he tells me it kept going to the htc quietly brilliant screen...a BOOT LOOP on the stock rom. I'm trying to remedy it for him right now.
My first eris was replaced because of trackball issues. The second one was unable to click out of the box and went right back. Eris 3 has been good to me so far.
verizon isn't that great when it comes to spending money on its customers so you can expect the same practice when it comes to the phones. I had a BB World Tour before my eris and it was replaced 3 times before I said enough. I've had my current eris replace once and that was only due to me having lost it, and then finding it again a week after the new one came. I went back to my old and sold the new/replacement to a friend. He's had nothing but problems with the phone but I blame 50% of that on his job
I got my Eris back in June '10 off the CPO list (whiskey related incident with my alias 2, haha) and it's still running strong. I guess I got lucky.

I'm on my refurb since mid november. My warrenty was due to run out at the end of November, but at the begining of nov, my phones sounds died. All of them...... call, external speaker, headset, etc. I called and got a refurb, and it has been working great since then, I haven't even had the silent call bug once. (The old one had it all the time, at least one a day.)
I got a refurb'd eris to replace my LG dare. it lasted 5 months before i had it rooted. it's been 5 months since i rooted it and i haven't had any problems at all
I was an early leaked who got tired of waiting for root. Had a refurb for almost a year with absolutely no issues aside from the dreaded silent bug, never heard of anyone with an Eris that doesn't have the ridiculous silent bug bull****.

[Q] So im thinking of leaving samsung(s3)...

Ive been with samsung for as long as ive been on android. My first smartphone was the s2....and yes i know, AMAZING PHONE, seeing as it was my first phone for android I cudnt fault, it was truly amazing! Then i bought the s3......dont get me wrong, at the beginning it was faster and smoother than my s2 and the screen was beautiful. But that perfect relationship was short lived, as i used my s3 more and more, it began to slow down and freeze constantly. At first I thought it was just something I installed, but it wasnt. To this day, it freezes 7-10 times a day, exiting an app takes ages(8 seconds roughly) and who can forget the random restarts? and it has made me lose all faith in samsung :/ the features their phones offer are unbelievable, but whats the point if i cant even use them properly. So the s4 isnt gonna come close to my wallet, or any other samsung phone for that matter. HTC isnt really someone I want to invest in ( good phones....sloooow as hell updates), even though robert downing Jr nearly convinced me Forget sony brands and lg can piss off (apart from their google phones)..... So now im left with google phones or........well apple (cue the boo's). I love Stock android, used it before and it is amazing!! But to buy a nexus 4 in my country (Ireland) it had to be shipped from the uk and it ended up being around €550 (720 dollars) and NO im not paying that!!
So at the end of the day i have two choices, wait for the nexus 5 and pray for it to be released in ireland for a reasonable price or............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................go for an iphone 5s (it was hard to finally type it)
So what do you guys think?
And I know I could have included motorola ..........but with that price.........they are dead to me (need i mention the phone im talking about)
I feel your pain. Right there myself also. Yesterday mine froze about 20 times. Spent some time with dummy file writer and lagfix and it is better now, but still on probation.
I am thinking about LG G2 (I'm in US), if the audio reviews check out.
I understand you, because I had some freezing issue while I was using XXELLA firmware, so after few weeks I upgraded to XXEMB1 and since that day I don't have any freezing issues, and I am using my phone for more than 5 months.
So I would suggest you to try to download XXEMB firmware because as I heard it's the most freezes safe firmware but if it's will happen anyway, it's means that it's hardware issue not software one.
I also had tis problem right from, regretted buying the phone since 1 year ago.. but i have kept sending my phone back under warranty it took me 4 (!) times until they finally decided to replace my phone with a new one without the failing mmc chip.. i would advice you to keep sending it back because i was thinking the same but on the other hand its a hell of alot of money you would waste.. now im a very happy owner and glad i kept resending it in for repair..

Touchscreen unresponsive

So here is the issue, my LG G5, touchscreen is temperamental, it won't work after turning on the phone, but need to wait a good 10 mins before working....then it will give me a good 5 minutes of time before it work again. Is this another recall issue, that LG and sprint don't want us to know about or is there a fix. I have loved the G family since the G2, but it is sad to say come Friday, it will be replaced with the note 7...but in the meantime would love a working phone...

BOOT LOOP

My V10 went into a bootloop back in November and I was fortunate enough to get it replaced days before the 1 warranty expired. Yesterday, my wife's V10 also suffered the same failure. Unfortunately, no insurance and Verizon still insists that they don't know anything about the hardware fault that's causing these phones to bootloop. I can cough up my failure to just bad luck, but both phones failing for the same thing has nothing to do with luck.
If anyone knows of a class action suit being filed against LG, I would be interested in signing up.
Last LG product I'll ever purchase.
lawsuit
I'd be surprised if there wasn't one. The same thing happened to my G4.
I'm pretty sure there is one...Google it
I've seen the articles of an active lawsuit against them, but there's no information on how to join. Usually, the attorneys will get companies to release the information of customers who may have been affected so that they can be contacted to join or opt out. Either way, I will send them an email and see if I get a response..
My phone just got the bootloop yesterday and I was able to get Verizon to agree to send a replacement for me even though I am well out of warranty. The person I spoke with on chat said she researched it and said it was a known issue so they could cover it. So my replacement phone comes tomorrow. Now I am just trying to get it to boot long enough for me to back up whatever I can.

You faired far better than me. They told me they didn't know anything about the issue (however they knew about it back in November when my phone died a few days before it's one year anniversary) when I called about my wife's phone suffering the same fate.
I did call LG and they are definitely aware of the issue as they extended the warranty of the phone by an additional 6 months.
Verizon should still address this issue with its customers rather than brush it off as just another defective device out if warranty.
I think there is one right now.. Not sure how to find it.. I notice most of the people experiencing bootloop ignored fixing the overheating, which almost all of them do out the box.. Mine did and I stopped the overheating right away simply by enabling developer option and turning off all window animations.. Don't know what that is but since them my v10 stays cold to the touch for basic daily use.. Even when watching videos.. I haven't tried gaming but I plan to.. You might want to do it to the one you just fixed.. By default it's on " x1."

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. My wife isn't a very heavy user, so don't know how the phone overheated that much to cause the hardware issue.
Received notification that LG repaired the phone by replacing the main board. They determined the fault to be "phone not charging". What a crock of ****. That was not even a problem.
Meanwhile, I'm 2 days in still waiting for a response to my email from the firm that is already suing them.

I bought my V10 day 1 (10/30/'15) and it bootlooped like a week ago. Sent it in and just got the email saying it wasn't charging through the port. Right... 20 months in and they're still replacing boards "under warranty" though so I'm not mad lol

Nice to know it wasn't just me they used that excuse with, guess they don't want the real reason of shoddy hardware being a liability in court.
My V10 replacement from Nov 2016 now exhibits WiFi disconnection issues. Wife's V10 has no such problems. Hopefully I can get to November before the phone totally faults out again.
I was looking forward to the Pixel 2 but I heard it's going to be a LG manufactured phone. Ugh, that's sad news as I won't even consider it.
Agreed, I definitely won't be one of the early buyers for a pixel 2. Bought a Note 4 off ebay, gonna roll with that and my newly repaired V10 as a backup until one of these manufacturers makes a modern phone with all the features I want. V20 would've been it but I'm not about to have one of those bootloop on me as well.. See what the V30 brings I guess
Just a little update from getting my main board replaced. Got it back yesterday after missing FedEx the day before and the sim no longer worked, but they left my glass screen protector on which I wasn't expecting. It had been updated from 25A (I was holding out for mm root..) to 28A. Everything seems to work but it is no longer going to be my dd. If something happens to my note I'll activate it but it's on zerolemon-mp3 player duty for now. Still love the idea of the V10...
Thanks for the update. They had removed the screen protector on my phone when I got it back. But so far phone is running ok. It did shut down on its own from getting too hot a couple of days ago. I was taking pictures and leaving the photo camera on when it did it.

Bye V10 I wish I could say it was a good run

My VZW V10 was great for 2.5 years. Then it just stopped. Nothing I did could bring it back. It would get to the LG boot screen but no further (and only after a battery pull). It was a great and underrated phone.
I enjoyed it immensely in spite of several missteps by LG. The audio DAC and camera were absolutely outstanding. Everything else, less so. I have it rooted and debloated, but it is just my back up phone at this point.
I managed to get a Note 8 and I have it rooted. I do not foresee buying another LG phone ever again.
I'm afraid of that. Sometimes mine won't wake up. Never had any other trouble. Rooted and debloated and I love the camera, but I'm always afraid it's gonna die on me. Did you have the same symptoms?

No, never had any issue with the phone, oitside of not being able to root it after the OTA. Last thing I did on it was receive a call on BT, an hour later picked it up and it is as dead.
What's really scary is about 3 weeks ago my new G7 thinq did the same thing. Recovery brought it back though.
