[Q] Note 4 on ST - Gear S on ??? - Samsung Gear S

I've just read a huge amount of posts on the Gear S and carrier services.
I use my Note 3 (and just got a Note 4) - on Straight Talk.
I called ST today to ask about a cell plan for the Gear S - long story short, I spoke to 2 guys who 'knew nothing about it'...in fact, the 2nd guy hung up on me. So much for ST.
So I keep hearing about $10.00 plans, etc. - but I can't seem to find one. I know nothing about 'pay as you go' just ST. and customer service the past 2 years I've had them has been miserable for me.
I have a Gear S that I bought unlocked. So, anyone want to clue me in on where to get cell service for this that doesn't cost the equivalent of a full cell phone/data plan?
Thanks, and I appreciate any help, advice, tips, etc. you can give me. Sorry for seeming confused. I am.
thanks,
2lip

The only way to get a cheaper device plan is to go with the big-four using a shared plan. Otherwise, you will have to pay just like another smart phone using voice, SMS and data.

I took my unlocked Gear S to T-mobile, was not a customer with any type of shared plan. I use AT&T on my Note 4 and bought the Gear S from them, then had them unlock it free of charge (took two days and some complaining). I have a grandfathered unlimited AT&T plan and I'm not switching to a shared plan just to add the watch.
at the T-mobile store I signed up for the $15/month 500mb data and unlimited talk/text smartwatch plan. This did require a credit check since it was post-paid, the only caveat I guess. $10 fee for the sim card and activation.
Even better- The rep was fairly sure that with a nano to microsim adapter, I could use this T-mobile plan in any device (phone, tablet, etc...). $15/month is dirt cheap. Can be bumped to 1gb data for another $5 ($20 total). T-mobile doesn't work quite as well as AT&T, but wow that's a sweet deal.
Now, if you have T-mobile service... they'll give you a $10 discount on the smartwatch plan. I think I may cancel my plan after this month, and have a friend who's a T-mobile customer add the line to their account. I'll give them like $80 for the year. Sounds pretty solid.
My other option was a pay-as-you-go H2O nano-sim. I think their cheapest plan is $25/month, but you can do pay-as-you-go plans- something that might be sufficient for the watch.
Those are pretty much the best two options right now, unless someone else has a better idea. There has been some question as to whether the forwarding will always work correctly going between two different carriers. Time will tell on that.

I am with Tmobile, and I love it. I only pay $5 a month for unlimited talk/text and 500mb data on my Gear S. Also, don't know if this is exclusive of Tmobile, but my Gear S be pumping 4G!!!
Oh boy!!

M Gear S says 5G so you lose

Agreed: the T-mo plan is the cheapest out there for the watch. It's $5/month for existing customers, or $15/month for non Tmo customers. The plan is called "wearables plan", and I could not find it on their site, guess you'll have to call them and ask for it.
If interested, it is also possible to add unlimited international calling to the wearables plan. It is usually $10/month, but they are running a promo that makes it only $5/month. It gives you unlimited talk (to landlines) and text to a bunch of countries, and you will be grandfathered into the $5/month deal as long as you remain a customer with them even after it goes back up to 10/month.
Oh, and for Tmo, "plan" does not imply any kind of contract: you can cancel whenever you please, so it's not much of a risk to just try it out and see if it's for you.

[Q] What plan is AT&T Dumb phone plan???

I've just ordered the SGS2 and looking into ATT gophone plan but not sure which one to choose...I keep hearing this $15 ATT Dumb Phone plan but what exactly do you guys mean by that???
Anything by ATT will suck. Try T mobile
the $15 plan is with a 2 year commitment and is called "medianet" I believe. the pay as you go or prepaid service that you originally mentioned does not require commitment and does not come with that $15 option. Check their site for details.

op-the dumb plan only includes messaging/data and does not include voice plans. research which one is better, prepaid or regular service + dumb plan.

If you go prepaid, they have a $50 unlimited voice, text, and data for featurephones. This is called the "$50 Monthly Unlimited Plan" GoPhone plan. Since they don't know your phone is a smartphone if will work with data. Technically smartphones are supposed to buy data separately for $25 more for 500MB (or you can buy less). But you don't have to.
If you are going to regular contract way then you pick the minutes you want, a crappy flip phone, and add the unlimited data package to it.
Or you might be able to get a SIM card for free from online or a store. But don't show them your phone. Then go home and activate the service and add the unlimited featurephone data. Tell them its a featurephone. If you just get the SIM card and no phone, then you might be able to signup without a contract at all. The data option is called "Data Unlimited for Non-Smartphones" for $15. If you want unlimited texting and data then get "Messaging & Data Unlimited for Non-Smartphones" for $30.
You could get unlimted everything (data included) for $50 with their prepaid plan.

Will that $50 unlimited everything work for smartphones like s2?
My plan is to buy a unlocked galaxy s2 from amazon, buy a $50 prepaid plan with some crap phone from ATT, and use that simcard in my unlocked galaxy s2. Will this work? Will I get 3g or 4g speeds for data if i do like this? For example, if I buy a crap phone like Sgh - a107 with $50 package, and use that simcard in galaxy s2, will i be able to use 3g? will 3g be disabled for that sim card, since sgh a107, does not support 3g?
Also, dont we get free phones in prepaid?

Here are the GoPhone plans:

You get HSPDA+ speeds where available.
I don't believe there is unlimited data for the SGS2. You have to purchase a data plan which is $5 for 10 MB or $15 for 100 MB. See link.
I use the $0.10 minute plan and I do 100 MB for $15 each month. You should purchase $100 at a time because the expiration is a year instead of 90 days or less. Data plans can be set to automatically renew each month.
Basically, I pay $20 per month. I use GrooveIP for over Google Voice when I'm on WiFi. I'm not a big talker. I prefer email and texts (unlimited free texts over Google Voice by the way).
We can deceive ATT right? Many people do that. I will buy some dumb phone with a prepaid plan, and use that sim card in my unlocked galaxy s2 .
the whole point of the dumb phone plan is that you get unlimited data for 15 dollars by using the dumbphone media net plan. i guess going pre paid is a decent idea too. but really the benefit is getting unlimited data for 15 bucks.

Does it still exist? I just searched for Media Net on AT&T and lowest I found was $30 unlimited for non-smartphones. Maybe it's buried away in a hard to find place.

In prepaid for $50 we get unlimited everything for non-smartphones. I will deceive ATT ad use it in galaxy s2...
Has anyone actually tested and used the GoPhone plan with an SGS2? I guess in theory it should work but most of us are either on a grandfathered plan or using the Data for non-Smartphone (aka: dumb-phone) plan on a prepaid account.
Edit:
Have you even looked at the GoPhone data plans? They're pretty ridiculous. 500MB is $25.00. Add that to the $50 unlimited voice and messaging and you're already at $75.00. A prepaid plan with less voice but unlimited data is a better value.

Yes, me. I dropped my family plan and switched to a GoPhone plan. First, I ported my number to Google Voice and then went in an AT&T store and got a new SIM and $100 worth of voice and data. FYI, you can prepay up to $500 if you only want to be bothered occasionally.
The GoPhone plans are good if you don't talk on your phone much and don't watch Netflix movies over 3G. With Google Voice and Groove IP, you can make free VOIP calls. With Google Voice, you get unlimited free texts. Good enough for me.
^ why should we not talk much? With $50, everything including data is unlimited ...

500MB of data is $25.00. You're paying $100 for 2GB of data that you can get on a prepaid plan without scamming for $25.00. How in anyway is that a "good deal?" I easily can blow through 500MB in a couple days with moderate use.

Want to get an SG2 but...

Ok, so I want the SG2, but keeping my current contract with AT&T proves to be difficult. If I upgrade with AT&T the SG2 is $199. If I upgrade through walmart letstalk.com $159, amazon wireless $149, deals2buy.com the SG2 is$99.
Talk about some great deal right? Only problem I have is that my contract would change. As many of you may or may not know, AT&T in their infinite wisdom removed their text tiering plan. It used to be something like $5 for 200 text a month, $15 for 1000 and $20 for unlimited. Because I don't text much, I went with the $5 for 200 text. I also opted into the $30 for unlimited data. I have been grandfathered into these options, but if I get the phone from an outside agency I would have to switch to AT&T's "awesome" $25 for 2gb data plan and be left almost without a text option unless I pay $20 for unlimited which is the only plan they have now. When I say I don't text much, I mean I'm barely breaking 80 a month and that's me really trying.
Now I don't use that much data mostly because of my current location. According to my data usage chart, I'm only using about 500mb a month. While the $25 for 2gb might seem like a good idea, I'd like to know that when I relocate within the next 6 months, that I won't have to worry about going over in data usage. When I'm in an area that has a good 3G connection, I watch a lot of videos when I have downtime and you can shoot past 2gb in no time.
I'm sure a lot of you are saying drop AT&T and what not, but the truth be told, I've never had any problems with them over the last 4 years. I think their rates are reasonable and I love the roll over option. So me leaving them is not an option anytime soon at least not until they royale screw me.
Are you 100% sure reseller's require you to change you data plan if you upgrade through them? If its true, then I would spend the extra money and go to an official AT&T store and buy one. I wouldn't sacrifice my unlimited data for anything.
I agree, do anything you can to keep that Unlimited Data plan.
Man the money you save up front would probably be negated over the course of the contract. If you dont have the money now just wait a spell, the price will come down of course after a while.
You should really look into your calling habits though. If you not using over 2gigs ever then you could save money there. Also with unlimited texts comes the free cell to cell deal. Thats any carriers cell not just att, which makes a huge difference. Everyone's situation is a bit different. att is actually pretty good about working with you on stuff like this. I have had them eat HUGE bills. I hate att for my own reasons, but this is one area where I have to concede their worth. Good luck to you. The phone really is bad ass, best phone I have had to date and I have had my fair share.
You are not forced to change data plan I upgraded to infuse 4g and kept data. I probably gnna get gs2 in a week or so. I do have the unlimited data btw.

Yes they do. Once you add the phone to your cart, you have to pick a calling and data plan. While AT&Ts calling plans haven't changed, their data and texting plans have and the resellers websites options have changed to reflect that.

I don't talk on my cell that often that why I like the rollover minutes thing. As for going over 2gb, it can happen because I travel a lot and when I'm not at my remote location, I go over 2gb easily. I don't think saving $5 is feasible just because I'm not consistently going over 2gb every month. Right now I pay $30 for unlimited. If I do go with the 2gb plan, I'll be charged $10 for each gig I go over. With unlimited, I'm covered no matter what the hell happens.

This is true if you do the upgrade through AT&T and not a reseller. AT&T isn't willing to cut me a deal on the phone simply because they don't have to. While I do understand this and I have the money to get the new phone at the price they are offering, it's always good to save a few bucks everynow and again.

While that might be true, I'm not willing to take that chance. Like I said earlier, you are forced to make a choice for a data plan. If making that choice prevents me from switching back to having unlimited, that would be bad. Saving the money on the phone wont' be worth it in the end.
I just did this on Monday. I was on the old $30 unlimited data and the $5 for 200 text plan.
I got mine at Walmart. The rep had to call AT&T to get it activated. They are able to keep the $30 unlimited data but will require you to upgrade your text plan to get it activated.
However, if you immediately call AT&T (611) and talk to a rep, you CAN get your old $5 for 200 text plan back. It will require the rep to ask their supervisor, but they will do it for you.
Went from old AT&T plan from my iPhone 3GS and still have the unlimited and 200 text messages.
Well it sounds like you've got it all figured out then.with all due respect, I don't understand why you even created this thread when you just countered helpful comments and seemed to have answered your own questions.

I just did if you read my post above...
I went to AT&T store and and them if they can give me $50 credit for getting the phone and i must keep my current features unchanged. The sales rep agreed and i walked out the store within 20 min with a phone. i paid $200 plus tax but he credited my account $50 right there.
When I bought my Infuse and kept my $5/200 texting plan and unlimited data - the GSII was bought outright off-contractr so didn't affect my account at all.
AT&T corporate stores are the way to go! They might not have the extreme hardware deals, but their representatives are FAR more competent and honest in my opinion.
I just did ths last night
I just upgraded to the S2 last night at an Att corporate store. The person who was ringinh me up told me the THE SAME THING. I need to change my data plan $30 unlimited and my $5 text plan. I have the same exact services as you do. She kept trying to put it through the system and it kept giving her errors saying that she could give me the data plan but not the text plan. In the end she was able to get it done and I kept everything that i had.
All i can tell you is to tell the rep to try every configuration to see if it goes through. If i remember right she ended up finding the text plan that would work but it was near to the bottom of her list.
It is 100% possible to keep because I was in the same exact situation.
I as well. : /

Complete bull****.
I upgraded @ Best Buy, unlimited data remains.
I don't really text at all so I have no texting plan. I refuse to pay extra for something that costs the network infinitely less the a phone call would have.
You will find that many, if not all representatives will feed you that "Need to Upgrade your plan" line of bull.
It is their JOB! The more people they can trick and fool OFF of their unlimited plans, the more money they can make.
DO NOT EVER BELIEVE THEM!!!
My Best Buy store had some cash register issues when I picked up my SGSII. We had to complete the upgrade over the phone, in store. Can't count the number of times the AT&T guys said I had NO existing Data-Plan. I called Foul, as I've been on the Corporate data plan (for office email) from the beginning.
Now if you try to go the order online / nonhuman route, all bets are off.
I upgraded at Walmart IN STORE and had NO ISSUES keeping my unlimited grandfathered in everything plan. I too have the $30 data and $5 unlimited text plan. I did the SAME THING last year with my captivate but I HAD TO do it in store. Walmarts online LETSTALK would not allow me to keep my current grandfathered in plan and they cancelled my order. So I walked into the Walmart store and got it and kept my grandfathered plan. Just before upgrading to the att SGS2 I called and CONFIRMED that I can and will keep my unlimited plan a.d was assured by the retention department that I would. I called after I left the store with SGS2 in hand and again called att to CONFIRM that my plan is still listed as the Personal unlimited plan (grandfathered plan). The att retention department told me that IF the store gave me ANY ISSUES to just get the phone and call them once it was mine. So stick to your guns in it and don't just give it away.

I see my best bet would be to walk into Walmart and get that deal on the phone since I can't be sure things will work out with the other online resellers. It seems that buy making your voices heard it was possible to keep your plans. I think what I'm going to do first is call AT&T up and ask the question "If I upgrade my phone through a reseller, will you allow me to keep my current plan" and see what there response is. After that I'll argue with them about how I've been a customer for some years and because I'm renewing my contract, that's the least they could do for me. I'll be sure to get the sales reps name and ID number if they have one. Hell, I might even use my phone and let them know that I'm recording this call for quality assurance. That way I'll have some hard evidence that I was promised that I could keep my plan by the sales rep. I haven't had a reason to use my in call voice recorder but this seems like the perfect time.
Thanks for your input all, I'll let you know how things go and what deal I ended up getting.

online ATT purchase of SGSII forces selection of DATA-Plan

Looking for your experiences on pulling this off, and opinions on the differences of the data plans.
So I'm on a corporate discount / account; I will use all of the typical services, voice, internet, and push mail (ms exchange server syncing of email/calender/contacts), and some limited mms/text.
I want to go with another 2yr contract, as I want the 199.99 price (includes 99 rebate until Nov. 4th); I also need/use the ATT phone insurance.
When I go to buy the phone online it won't let me check-out without selecting a "new" data plan.
I currently have unlimited data on my tilt2 for 30.00 per month.
I don't want to pay more than this for data, and I refuse to be charged overage if I ever go over 2gb. That is [email protected]$##.
They do actually offer unlimited data at a higher price, and it is confusing because there are ALOT of different data plan options. I don't really know if there is a real difference between them. Anyone have insight on that?
Some say enterprise unlimited, then the same but for Windows, then the same but with push mail, then some with tethering added (higher price). There are alot more.
Has anybody gone through this, selected a plan and been able to call ATT to get their 30.00 unlimited grandfathered? (or price matched on the new plans?)
I've been with ATT for over a decade, (when they were cingular), and I'm not going to buy this phone if I have to pay more for data.
Other carriers offer it unlimited, some included in the rate/voice plan, and Verizon already has alot more LTE network setup.
I just don't want to buy this phone, and already be committed to a contract and find out I'm screwed.
Thanks for sharing your experience and how you tackled this one (especially if successfull)!
I just did an upgrade using amazon wireless.. ($149.99 for the SGS2)
They also forced you to select data plans without giving me the options for what I currently had. AT&T was great though because once I had the phone activated I called them up and they grandfathered my plan back to how it was in under 5 minutes.
Quite impressed they took care of me that fast.

Wow thanks for the feedback what did you select, the 2gb plan to start with? just to be safe I'll try to mimic exactly what you did.
I was in the exact same boat you are (Tilt2, unlimited data, corporate account). I walked into the AT&T store, told them I wanted the GS2 and that I wanted to keep my plan the same and I walked out about 5 minutes later with my plan intact and my new phone. It was the most painless experience I've ever had with AT&T in probably 8 years of dealing with them.
+1 ^^^^
To OP, the easiest way is to go into AT&T store and upgrade there (yes, you can upgrade your primer account in regular stores). Not only you get cheaper price $199 w/o rebate. You also get to keep your unlimited data plan easily. Unless, of course, your local AT&T store doesn't carry the phone.
Also, the rebate only applies to new customers (for premier account). Not upgrades. So, you're paying $299 for your upgrade.
If you have a premier account, NEVE do it online. You will always get screwed for paying more than retail stores.

You should have a dedicated account manager assigned to your company's account. E-mail him or her and ask for what you want. Not only will it be faster, they usually ship overnight for free and waive other fees. My rep set up a new contract-less account for me on the data for non-Smartphones plan and overnighted me the SIM for my ISGS2. He just did it again last week when I added a UK G-Tab to my account. They also help with account changes and billing issues. It's so much faster and more efficient then dealing with the phone drones. They also service personally liable corporate affiliated accounts.
thanks guys, I had heard that if your on a corp-discount/account that retail stores cannot upgrade you. (unless it is a specified "corporate" store location.) Also I had suspected that some local stores may not have them in stock. So for those two reasons I decided to save some legwork and just order online.
I'll just call a few stores on Monday and see whom can take care of me. At least that way if I run into the wrong guy, and they to screw me around I can just opt to go to another store.

Well I actually pay for my own phone, it is my personal phone and plan. It is not subsidized by my corp. The giant corp I work for just happened to have a discount at ATT when I upgraded the last time. If our company does have an acct. manager I have no idea who that would be or how to contact them.

You don't need to go through a rep unless your company pays for your phone. You are only getting the discount on your personal plan, which is the same thing I get. You can simply call them (611 from your current att phone) and it routes you to the premier people. Once you connect with someone do the upgrade over the phone and you can keep your unlimited data. That is how I did it and they shipped it fedex 2-day. They should be able to wave the upgrade fee and shipping.

I am in almost the same situation as you (my account is tied to my company so I get some FAN discount and I have been with ATT since 2002). Anyway, is your current data plan truly unlimited? If you bought it a few years ago then it is. My advice is for you to go into an actual store. When I tried to do an upgrade over the internet and via phone to business customer service, I was told not only that I would have to update my data plan but also change my voice plan to something more expensive but my plan was so old that it was no longer "current". In order for me to get anything even close to my current voice plan would require me to pay $15 more a month! I spent 45 mins on the phone with 3 different people!
I ultimately went into a local store during my lunch break and 10 mins later I had my SGS2, and I kept my data and voice plan.
The only thing the store said about my corporate plan was small talk about where I worked.

Yup, I actually had the 15-20 dollar unlimited internet for years-dump phone (on the old version of the tilt 2, the 8525(?)), when I upgraded to the tilt 2 at release, I had to bite the bullet and go with the $30 plan, but it is unlimited.
Looks like I'm going to hit a store on my lunch break Monday.
Thanks all for your input.
Same here - no problems keeping unlimited data on my plan, going from Tilt2 to Infuse (GS2 was an off-contract outright purchase.)
The one caveat above, someone mentioned special "corporate" stores.
What this means is - you must go to an AT&T-owned store. NOT a "mall kiosk" type reseller, or BEst Buy Mobile, or anything like that - the store must be owned and operated by AT&T Corporate.
In general, you should always go to corp stores - the staff are FAR better trained in every store I've ever been to than the phone staff or "mall kiosk" type staff, which are undertrained at best and dishonest at worst. (Such as frequently telling you outright lies about a device you want but they don't carry, in order to push you to something they have in stock and make a sale.)
I also ordered from Amazon Wireless. They do not have any option to keep your old data plan. Paying a flat $149.99 is the greatest deal when buying a phone. No rebates or exorbitant tax because you're paying the full tax price of the phone and "activation fees."
But since you have to call ATT anyways to activate, you can easily argue to grandfather your unlimited data back in. Just make sure to call them beforehand to ensure you keep it before purchasing and have them put a note on your account when you activate to keep it.
At first they told me that I'm switching to a 4G data plan so I'll lose unlimited. Then I argued if I'm switching to 4G that I might as well just go to Verizon and get real 4G. Then the suddenly they call up supervisors and immediately let you keep your unlimited plan. It sad that you have to put them under the gun to keep your unlimited data, but that's just how it is.

Well I actually pay for my own phone, it is my personal phone and plan. It is not subsidized by my corp. The giant corp I work for just happened to have a discount at ATT when I upgraded the last time. If our company does have an acct. manager I have no idea who that would be or how to contact them.

Your company should have a dedicated Premier page that has contact info. You can probably find the link on your company's intranet/extranet or from HR. If you have a personal account using your work discount you're still part of Premier.
I have a corporate premier plan linked to my employer, but its not a business phone, in fact my employer uses Verizon for business phones. But, I get a 27% service discount at att. I had the unlimited data. I was going to buy through Amazon, or Walmart online as they are both cheaper than in store, but figured I would hit the store first. The store I went into was a Spring store, not att corporate, but an authorized reseller. They would not match the price, and said if I bought online there might be a separate ETF for the data they make you choose, and that customer service nor the stores are allowed to put back unlimited. As others have reported that is not true, but its also not guaranteed. I use 6GB a month, so I didn't want to risk it. They gave me a $30 discount, so I paid $170 (no rebate) and let me keep my unlimited data. Although, they did say they needed to change the data plan to a 4G plan, but it was just system coding, the price and unlimited would stay. When I put my SIM back in my captivate, the data wont work, so I think the plans are different, but my bill still shows $30 unlimited.

$50 is, in my opinion, not worth the high risk of losing unlimited data.
If you do it in an AT&T store, there is no *****ing, there's no arguing, no threatening to switch providers - seems like anyone who has upgraded in-person in-store didn't even have to ask - we were TOLD we'd be keeping unlimited data.

That's how I felt too ... it wasn't worth the risk or potential hassle to save that money. Because in the event I could not get the unlimited data back it would mean either a lot over overage, or drastic changes to my phone use habits to keep it under 2GB.

I went to Costco and they made a point to keep my unlimited data. The guy even showed me on his screen. They had the phone for like $30 off.

To each his own I guess. If I went to the ATT store my total would've been $270 after taxes for the $199 price. That's almost double what I've paid.
So spending an extra $120 to be "hassle-free" over calling ATT to keep my unlimited. It's up to you which makes more sense.

Buying OGS2 online. How to Keep my unlimited plan?

Hey,
My friend's on a grandfathered iPhone 3G unlimited data plan. He's upgrading to a OGS2, he went to our corporate store but they removed the OGS2, only offering the skyrocket. They still have the S2 on the online store however. How can he go about keeping the unlimited plan when he does the upgrade?
Edit: Sorry wrong form. If anyone can move to General, that would be awesome.
You could try ordering over the phone or if you dont mind taking a drive, you could try a different AT&T store, probably one outside an LTE service area, as those seem to still carry the original SGSII.
Sent from my SGS II.
I have heard Best Buy will let you keep the unlimited data. You can also buy through the att website, without having to choose new data plan. When you choose the phone, it just lets you skip the data part if you don't want to switch. I know Walmart, Amazon and most other 3rd parties make you select one of the new plans. People say if you call and complain enough they will put back the unlimited data, but there is no guarantee.
Best buy will also price match, and let you return without the restocking fee. But that might be in store only, don't know about online with Best Buy.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
Walmart allows you to keep your existing plan as well unless the sales associate is an idiot and messes something up.
Att online may mess up the transfer also from an iPhone your best bet is to go into an Att store. Its at the stores discretion if they will stop carrying the gs2. My store is in an lte footprint and we have no.intentions of removing the gs2 instead we will be leveraging it over it's bigger brother.

I have been an avid iPhone user for over 3 years and just made the switch about a month ago. I too had the unlimited data plan.
Purchased my SGS2 from Best Buy and the representative called to activate and made sure to tell them to keep the unlimited data. All you need to do is order the phone, and when you receive it simply contact ATT's customer service line or when you have it activated be sure to tell the person not to change your plan.
If you do happen to lose it due to someone's mistake, just call the customer service line back and a manager/supervisor can reinstate the grandfathered plan. Hope this helps.
I bought mine at Walmart, and they only had the 2GB option in their system. They said it wasn't a problem, I could just call AT&T and they'd take care of it. And they did. So even if you lose it, you can get it back.
i kept my unlimited iphone plan when i upgraded through walmart...
one thing is at&t keeps bugging me with text saying "AT&T Free Msg: Did you know an eligible data plan us required for your 4G Smartphone? Pls Call 611 to select a plan and establish you 4G data connection today" is anyone else getting this? Its annoying, they send it weekly almost
Btw I have the regular s2 not the lte

Question about prepaid service, and SIM cards

Hello,
My contract just ended on my i777 and it's brand new
I want to get the BEST possible prepaid service that would work
in Southern California. I dont need a lot of minutes, at all... Just GOOD FAST
DATA
Any recommendations? I was thinking to just go to walmart on my lunch break and pick up the cheapest prepaid phone that comes with a SIM card. Stupid ATT wants me to sign another 2 year contract with them for shoddy as capped service. I told them they better start treating me right towards the end of my contract, but NOOOOOOOOOO... the service provider is always right Stupid capped data text message was the last straw... I have "Unlimited" and I never went past 2gb... the ONE time I use netflix, I got the text
LOL... Thanks!
I gave quite a fair warning to ATT towards the end of my contract too... My account is a business account for SONY and I even mentioned that I will contact the administration department regarding their ****ty service and no one cares ...sooooooo, they shut my service off because I am not going to pay a 90 dollar month to month capped service fee that doesnt even work in my area.. (At home I get about half mb MAX DL speed).. when I go to work (about 5 miles away) I get 4 MB... One mile away from that, Id be lucky to get 200kb lol. Its just shoddy as service and its time I start sticking it to the MAN Lol

If your contract is up, and you still have "unlimited" data...stick with that. You're not gonna find anything better by going prepaid.
Its not unlimited dude... unlimited is unlimited. Id understand if you advertise unlimited service within reason, but thats not what I was sold about 5 years ago with my original Iphone.. Im on a gradfathered plan that doesnt mean anything. Its code slang for "These people are stupid and old since they have been with us for so long so lets rape them some more"
I dont even need a lot of data... just enough to get by... MAX is about 4 GB in a BUSY ASS MONTH LOL, (traveling etc...which is NEVER really)

Clearly. That's why I put the word in quotes. What I'm telling you is, even though it's crappy, you're not going to get any better service by going prepaid. In fact, it'll be worse. From what I can tell, you can't even get HSPA+ data on a prepaid plan...only 3G. Maybe even only EDGE, I'm not sure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

In the US, you're only going to get prepaid through AT&T or T-Mobile. Our phones can only use Edge on T-Mo.
Keep the service (for now) until you find something better. As stated in the earlier posts by other, there is no better plan that what you got ATM.
I am on a 2GB plan with AT&T and I still feel that I am getting throttled. Your "unlimited" plan will let you go up to 5GB for $25 before they throttled you, that better than mine at 2GB for $30.

I think you have those prices reversed. The unlimited plan has traditionally been $30, and the 2GB plan is now $25.
Prepaid service
Hey im a few months late in this thread but ive been weighing my off contract cell service options and looks like you could use some help...you actually have a few much much better choices out there that will save money and still keep you off contract...
ok, i currently use H20 wireless right now and it is $60 a month with 2 gigs of data...they just started to downgrade data speeds with this plan from 4g to 3g after 500mb of useage. They stared this about 1 month ago :/
And unfortuneately they completely cut off the data after 2 gigs
The great thing about H20 however is that it is more or less an ATT sim card with an H20 logo...100% exact same coverage...Also you dont need to unlock your AT&T phone to use with H20 =)
Now your second and perhaps best option that i have found is to go with Straight talk...
they offer prepaid service that uses att´s, t mobile´s, and verizon´s service coverage depending on the plan you choose (just like h20 it is 100% the same coverage you would get with those companies).
The plans cost $45 a month for unlimited Talk Text & data and they do not cut off your data and apparently dont throttle either! They are selling Sims now on their website...(you would want to get the ATT compatible sim for your i777
you could cut your bill in half and stay off contract...id go with straight talk for sure...good luck!

But if you read straight talk's agreement look at the data section. They basically tell you what is ok to use data for and what is not, and that if you excessively use it and go over the average you can have your account canceled. I read through it and I think it even said no streaming of media of any kind(or maybe it was just video)

That is correct, all prepaid services essentially may cut off your data completely at any time for any reason... it's in the contract...ridiculous hu?. However since the original poster says he almost never goes over his limit of 2GB, he shouldn't have any trouble at all. Also these companies send you numerous warnings before they cut you off (in my experiences- which i've had simple mobile and H20).
One thing that will set them off is tethering...more specifically when you are already past 2gb and are continuing to tether. Also I spoke to a rep he told me that it is unlimited and isn't throttled...but as we both know they do have the power to do as they want. As far a media streaming, they more so discourage it rather than forbid it...never have had a warning message for streaming content (netflix skype etc)
If you want to be off contract and do it cheap then straight talk will be the cheapest with the most data...there is no comparison
Are they, StraighTalk & H20, offering HSPA+ or even LTE in some area or just 3G and EDGE?
If they truly offer unlimited as they advertise, then it is a great deal.
Somehow, I keep thinking "it's too good to be true" and I don't want to be trapped into some kinds of fine print.

I do not believe they handle LTE but they do Edge, 3g and HSPA+ but it depends on your area as to what you can get. I have ST on my i777 and I get all 3. HSPA+ is preferred but in my area 3g is more what I get unless I am very near a tower. My town is restricted by there not being enough towers around but when I am near a better one I get H+ all day long.
Thanks for the confirmation, chris.
Still not really sure what unlimited means for Straight Talk as no one else really knows. I do know they will cancel you for using to much data. I have read that the most data is 2 gb a month,2000 to 5000 each for messaging and talk. I dont use to much data and never will use the other minutes up so this is a great deal for me. Under 48.00 a month. Beats almost the 80 I was paying. I do get H+ but I think thats only for data. Pretty sure 3g for everything else. Never had any problems with ATT. Just paying to much money!!! 15.00 for an ATT Sim and 330.00 for my GS2 priceless!!!!

Unlimited means that it is unlimited until ofcourse they decide you are using too much or too fast, which surely they have guidelins, but we will never know.
...the best approach to teathering would be to teather via an application
...It costs $30 with AT&T to utilize the teathering feature so obviously straight talk (running on AT&Ts network in this case) doesnt want customers using this feature.
...my Atrix (not yet rooted) cant utilize teathering with my H20 service (also uses AT&T´s network) because i get the "sorry you havent paid for tethering service bla bla bla)
...a good app to use would be pdanet... it will look as if you are just using a normal app (carriers have ways to detect if you are infact teathering).
-you can sideload pdanet with an excellent program called the sideload wonder machine ...just serch it in google
...If you use the AT&T´s stock teathering feature on your phone they will know you are teathering.
...i will try and call tomorrow and try to get some kindof breakdown of why they cap and shut off data...and in some cases accounts :/
hope this helps

For the best prepaid service Page plus might be good a good choice since it operates on verizon's network... Here in Florida verizon is by far the best without question. Although since it's a cdma network obviously you would have to sell your phone and get a verizon or something that has been flashed to verizon....
The plan isnt half bad either...
$55 unlimited talk text/picture messages
However they only give you 1gb of data but in your case it sounds like it may be sufficient for ya.
You can activate any verizon phone on Page plus except for the 4g phones... I haven't yet tried an iphone 4s but I will look into it.
