Was always able to do this on my HTC and LG phones but I can't find it anywhere on the s6e. Anyone have any ideas or does this simply not exist?

You can assign any song and tone to a contact with Ringdroid and where the song starts and finishes also.

Download Go sms pro or other messaging apps. You can set a ring tone or message tone for individuals by going into individual settings. Open up the message of the individual and hit menu button to access the individual settings
I changed my notification ringtone to cheeper or something like that and the phone continues to use sherbet which was the factory setting. Any ideas?

did you set it for the specific application? maybe its a different app tone u need to change.
I found it. There is extra settings within the stock text messaging app that allows you to change the sound. My past phones just use the default notification sound. First samsung... Thanks.

nps. different apps use different notifications. that one is used for gmail alot.
After rooting both our phones to glitched ics a couple weeks ago, we both have the same volume problem with our ringtones. Even when volume is turned up to Max, it is clearly not nearly as loud as it was in stock. I can never hear my phone ring anymore, my notifications are plenty loud, it's just the ringtones that are the issue, and we have tried several, so it's clearly the volume not the tones we are using. I can't help but feel like I am missing something really obvious?

Did you go in and adjust the volumes to where you want and link volumes? Just a thought.

Link volumes? The only volume controls I can find are the ones under settings, and I have it turned all the way up for my ring. Is there somewhere else I can adjust with any of the extra tools in the glitched ics?

Now I see what you mean by link volumes, that was already checked in mine.

Install the free Volume Control app to get a second opinion.
Does anyone know of a good ring tone app that let's you edit your mp3s with affects like fading in and out and messing with the audio? Doesn't matter if it's paid or not. it doesn't have to be a ring tone app, it could be an audio app or anything that would let me cut and edit and save my creation.

i wouldnt know of an app that lets you "make" your own ring tones.. but i know rings extended or any file manager can be used to set a mp3 as a ringtone or notification... if you want to cut songs you can use mp3 ringtone factory
Ringtone maker might be what you're looking for.

Go into your sms app then settings then notifications

Why should someone need to modify the SMS app settings? If you put the overall phone on vibrate, that should be the prevailing condition. Mine not only plays notification sounds when on vibrate-only, it also rings...LOUDLY.
