Front glass crack/scratched .... Never dropped. - Nexus 6P General

I considered that... Had 2 other people look at it too. We all thought it was a crack. You'd have to see it in person. Either way crack or scratch it hasn't been dropped or knocked on anyway. Just wanted all newbies to Google store to know their customer service is top notch when it comes to support after the purchase.

Did you purchase Nexus protect? Just wandering if they are doing this out of warranty or because you bought the extended plan.

So tired of these claims. Maybe you got ghosts in your home?

why are you tired of these claims? the issues are real.
even the carrier i work for released a memo advising us of this and to do a swap .
if it wasn't real there would be no advisory..

I don't remember living in a world where glass has a problem with spontaneous combustion. Phones get cracked or scratched either during the shipping process, or due to user error. They just don't develop scratches by themselves.
It is possible there was a hairline fracture in the glass, and while using it, it may have spread to be more noticeable. However a phone that is in pristine condition when unboxing, stays in said condition until there is user neglect.

so was this a scratch or a crack?

Either you are a troll or just trying to bash the nexus brand or maybe telling the truth. But 99.9% of the time screens just don't "crack" or "shatter" for no reason, if that were the case, how come even the low budget phones don't crack or shatter out of nowhere? But it's just a coincidence this phone shatters?

Your carrier advised you that glass cracks by sitting on the table when nobody is around? If that is what you understood from the memo, I am surprised the carrier still hasn't fired you. Now take your non sense elsewhere.

It is a trend now. Some retards break their screen then start threads to find/convince other people then call the company and say hey I got other people with exact same issue, here cover my phone under warranty.

Apparently the cheap Chinese clones don't suffer from random breaking glass. Nor do the cheap no name phones. Weirdddd

With that attitude, you're only scaring away other people that might wanted to share their experience with defective units otherwise. I don't understand the need to bash.

I'm sure we'll get a 'My phone spontaneously bent' post before too long. On a serious note I wish the mods would create the following threads: 'My phone is defective' and 'I damaged my phone and I blame the manufacturer'.

im sure he didnt mean to say the phone breaks by itself..i think he meant that the screen will crack even with a slightest touch to the screen

people keep complaining of "cheap Chinese crap"... This isn't the case. You are misinformed and need to do some research if you believe this. Yes, it's made in China. With Gorilla Glass 4. I wasn't aware Gorilla Glass' strength changed depending on the country it was assembled in.

If that is indeed the case his phone must have been defective when it left the factory, this post would go in the 'My phone is defective' thread. I have touched my screen with various degrees of pressure and no cracks have appeared, my phone is not defective. Anyhow the long and short is we don't need a new post for every single issue, spontaneous or otherwise.

You should learn to read. the Carrier has put the advisory not me.
They have advised us that some nexus 6p owners have reported that the glass panel has cracked spontaneously.
- Points to Mention to the Customer
- we are aware that a small portion of Huawe Nexus 6p customers may be experiencing this issue
This is on Rogers in Canada
Now move along.. the issue is very real .

Bwahahahahahahaha..... Spontaneously bent. That is hilarious.
In total we've owned 10 smartphones over the last 6.5 years. Never has any glass cracked or shattered except one. Droid 2. Was less than a month old and in my wife's purchase. Something hit the screen and caused a tiny crack in the glass and lcd. Fought like hello get it fixed under manufacturer warranty as I hardly call that abuse but to no avail had to go through insurance.
Point is, these are sensitive expensive electronic devices. Even throwing into your pocket with keys in your pocket can cause some damage to it. It's not the manufacturer's fault. I honestly can't believe how people treat their devices. Some don't even realize what they do can damage it. (like my wife just keeping it in her purse.... With 10 different things that can bang into it.) unfortunately we as a society have higher expectations, but have lower expectations for our own actions.
I'm not saying anyone deliberately caused damage and is trying to milk the system (as some do)... But take a closer look at what you do with your device daily. You don't rub your keys against your TV do you? You don't toss your computer on the counter. Unless you can honestly say you have babies the device in cloth since cell minute 1....stuff happens.

Not sure what happened to my Screen!!!

So I noticed that on my Photon screen there were two streaks which can be seen in the picture. One streak is much bigger then the other. I know the picture is pretty bad, did it on purpose so that the mystery smudges could be soon.
The weird part is that when I wipe the screen with the micro fiber cloth the screen looks brand new no smudges but it seems for some reason those two spots keep coming back as the screen gets used. Anyone have any thoughts? I have never spilled anything on the phone and I do not work in an abrasive environment. I have tried screen cleaner as well still no luck.
I wounder if sprint would fix this with TPE as wear and tear? Somehow I doubt they will though.
hmmm, well since i work at a sprint repair center, i'll just give you my personal opinion, if you brought to me, i would say it's either physically cracked or liquid damage of some kind, but i would have someone else confirm it, but, just take it to your local repair center and keep your fingers crossed it's covered if not, hey, a deductible for an insurance claim is still a lot cheaper $600
I had an issue similar to this with my evo 4g. I took it to the sprint store store and they replaced it the screen. They said it was pressure points on the screen. I have a thread posted on the evo 4g forums general section, cause just like you i was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong with. Must people said water damage...but i take good care of phones and never put them near any liquids.
So when u get a chance, search the evo 4g general forum...check out the pics of my screen and see if they're similar.

not sure if i agree so much with the liquid damage (but obviously it's difficult to know because it's a picture). It seems as if it is a pressure point like it was in your pocket. me being a tech i have no access to photon screens at all. so depending on how smart the tech you speak to is, it could go either through TEP or he/she would just swap it out.

Cracked Screen

Looks like I'm the first to post about this in the HOX+ section
Had the phone face down after having recently rejected a call, my dad and I heard a tiny sound but didn't think much of it. Later when I picked it up I was in utter shock to find the screen had cracked. The phone is only 1 month or so old and HAS NEVER EVER been dropped.
I gave AT&T a call knowing I'd get no where...and yes, I got no where. So I called HTC and they were super nice. However, they pretty much told me that while screen defects are possible, it's next to never that it's ruled as such by the technician. I sent it in anyway to see what happens.
I really don't have any other options at the moment to getting it repaired as I could not find a single place that sells HOX+ parts. Some have reported HOX parts being cross compatible, but I'm not going to take the phone apart (and risk damaging it) on a "maybe".
In sum, I'm heartbroken and pissed.
And to rub salt into the wound, I'm having to use my wife's old iPhone 3GS in the meantime :crying:
always sad to hear about the death of a beloved phone :crying: Good luck and please keep us informed.
I'm more sorry to hear that u have to use a sorry a** iPhone for the time being
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I'd cry if I had to use an iPhone. Sorry to hear about your phone. I think the one x and + both share the same dimensions so maybe a one x screen will work but the leds will be white not 100% about compatibility so maybe check with HTC
These phones are actually really easy to tear apart! Don't be scared
Best of luck getting your baby working
Sent from my Viper One X+
I would hope that a technician could tell the difference between a defect and impact damage. If it were dropped, there would be some kind of impact mark somwhere, especially considering how hard Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be to break. Fingers crossed for you.
Don't feel bad. I just sent mine back to HTC as well. All layers of the screen destroyed but surprisingly the phone still worked so I'm looking at a new digitizer and lcd. I miss her

Thanks guys. Still ticked to no end, and the iPhone 3GS certainly doesn't help. Should have never sold all my ex-Android phones (urgh).
Still no word from HTC. I'm basically torn between forking over $200+ for the repairs if they're not going to repair it under warranty and just selling it as is on eBay. I figure I can get $300, then use the money toward a Nexus 4. It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

HTC/Futuretel in Canada quoted me $430 for screen + digitizer. I smashed it a few weeks ago, you can find my thread in the q&a section.
I found a company in Vancouver that will do it for $135 so we'll see how that repair goes.
Good luck to you too.
Sorry to hear about yours as well, hope you get it back all sorted. $400 is a lot just for a screen repair,

My status changed to "In Repair" today. Not sure if that means they're going ahead and repairing it under warranty or that they're looking at and will contact me soon with estimate. Wait and see I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It does not mean that. Mine said the same thing the first day and it was explained to me that it means they are taking it apart to diagnosis the extent of condition. My final cost was 200. They claimed they needed to replace the casing as well... I didn't argue it and paid up. You can dispute the charges though.

You're absolutely right. An hour later they sent me a quote with the same thing, $200 for the screen and casing. I called them up and asked as to why the casing needed replacing when only the screen was cracked. They escalated it and someone is going to contact me back. I don't have a problem paying to replace the screen (which I hoped to be around $120), but why should I pay an extra $80 for a casing that was in pristine condition.

I have zero hope that any good is gonna come out of this and I don't want to wait another week (was told up to 10 days) for them to review my case only to come back and tell me they won't cover them. Thought about putting the $200 toward a Nexus 4 (or whatever I got from the selling the HOX+ as is), but I really love my HOX+, even if I miss the Nexus experience.

Am sorry to hear about your screen. Don't wanna go off topic but stick to the HOX+. I have the nexus 4 as well and it's a good phone and all but the camera and audio experience is awful. If you use your phone with a headset from time to time or take pics the Nexus 4 is ridiculous, I mean really bad.
Thanks for reassuring me I made the right decision then. Good to know about the camera and audio quality.

Got my phone back yesterday from HTC and was surprised to find out that they actually sent me a brand new one instead of repairing my original one. This actually makes me feel a whole lot better about dropping $200.
I'll give :good: for HTC for their quick turnaround and the nice packaging the phone came in.
All in all, I'm just glad to have my [new] HOX+ back.

[Q] Too many defects on the S6 Edge?

Hi all,
Lately my eyes have been set on the galaxy s6 edge as my next phone, however I am somewhat concerned about all the issues I've been hearing about it. Having a look through the comments and threads, it would seem that there are issues in regards to scratches appearing on screens, dead pixels, the edge not responding correctly, bending issues, etc. Are these issues really that widespread, and would I be better off in just getting a normal S6? Unfortunately, from my experiences, phones are very hard to replace or get fixed in my area, so I really dont want to be stuck with a phone that has issues right out of the box.
I've got the edge and I have zero problems with it.

I've never heard of bending issues on the S6's.
As for my Gold Platinum 64GB S6E, it's perfect. No scratches, no dead pixels, no connection issues (Sprint), no weird battery drains.
Don't be afraid of buying the S6E if that's what you really want. If something is wrong, just exchange it at the store or get your refund.

Well, its nice to hear some stories of where everything is completely fine. Are the defects a widespread problem, or has it just been bloated up to be bigger than what it actually is?
Also, I would love to just be able to exchange it, but from my experience they will just say its your fault and then do nothing about it or pay to get it fixed.
When you go to the store check it our really well in the store and when you get back to your car. Pretty sure you have 14 days. I have 30 days because of my discount on my account. If concerned about it wait a month or two. All new phones when released usually have some quality control and bugs. Also remember that the issues are blown up on here.

Unfortunately we do not have a 14 day return day policy over here (would love to have one though). They usually give it to you in the packaging and once its opened its usually your problem, but I'll try opening it the moment I get it at the store so they know it wasnt my fault - hopefully if it is defected they will exchange it. And yes I did think about waiting a couple of months, but the carrier im on is currently offering an extra 2gb data free per month if you get it soon so I'd rather not wait!
I think I will just get the edge and make sure its not defected before I leave the store!
Dont let 100 people on a forum decide the phone purchase for you. Fantastic phone, any issues will be ironed out soon, IM sure.
If worried, just buy at shop.
So far mine in great condition.

Regarding bending issues- this is why I recommend keeping your Hydraulic Presses and chainsaws in a different pocket from your Phone .

There WILL be lemons in all man made products. It is the nature of a forum where we come to generally moan and groan about what we buy. If you take it seriously or to heart you would never leave your house.
I am a complete certifiable tech junkie. I didn't need to go buy the SS6Edge. I still have a new IPhone 6, Sony Xperia Z2 and the Ultra. Not to mention a few others during the past year like the nexus 5. There have been stories about all of these devices, forums are full of negatives.
I have no doubt there will be S6 Edge lemons, there has to be in a production this size. Point is 99.5% will be fine. A tiny percentage will drive their owners to distraction, for me this came in the guise of an Asus Transformer some years ago. Considering the gear I purchase in a year though I really cant moan and you should buy what you desire with confidence. Buy from a decent retailer with a known reputation who will refund or replace IF a problem is found, now that is a genuine concern more so that what we buy but from where we buy it.
Such gear is not cheap. I am sincerely questioning my own sanity this evening after realising I have paid out 1100€ on a mobile phone, THAT worries me. :silly:
If you are of a nervous disposition keep well away from these forums or consider some facts. There have been sales of the iPhone 6 in the millions world wide and the bendgate silliness has proven to be just that, silly.
Please don't flame me if you are one of the genuine unfotunates to have bought a lemon BUT that is what they are, an exception to the rule.
Kind regards, Ryland
i have the edge i gold all seems good here little bit slack home button but i like a bit movement lol just to think i bet there has been a few million sold all ready of the s6 edge and about 2% of people are having problems which is not very many when ypu think about it

Many people have the problem but don't even notice it. There are random people on Youtube who have the pink screen problem and they don't see it. Ignorance is bliss.
There's no way the problem is 2%.

so lets say they sold one million for instance 2% is 20.000 units no way is there 20,000 people in that thread lol
and it seems to be affecting the black version and not the white or gold so that so it does sound plauseable that there 2% of over all sales of the handset not just on the colour could be a bit more than the 2% of the black handset sales could be closer to 10% as it is affecting black version and seems a bigger seller

May I respectfully ask how and where you arrive at the number 2%?
Hey for those who have purchased a faulty mobile its not a joke, not at all BUT seeing as the unit was released in America on the 10th? in some European countries on the 17th I would suggest it would be absolutely impossible to arrive at any accurate figures regarding faulty devices.
There is wide spread shortage in Europe as Samsung Europe just cant get the stock to ship out to the stores.
I would like to know how you researched this figure of 2%? The importer in this country is in such disarray due to demand they don't even know yet accurate figures for sales especially returns.
Before I am accused of being some sort of Samsung fanboy I have only returned to Samsung after my last purchase of the Note 3, now how long ago was that? I went Sony also Apple. All three have threads on this very site full of scare stories and some genuine horrors.
May I suggest you don't use unsubstantiated guess work to support some theory that as yet cannot possibly be quantified or known.

Ryland

I was quoting the 2% estimate from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60203785&postcount=12
For the record, I don't believe it's 2%. Scratches is probably 30% and pink screen is probably 50%, but many won't notice it.
We have a poll for scratches, should start one for pink screen as well, and that's an issue with regular S6 too.

Great phone, shaky durability, not a customer friendly company

Figured i'd post this bit of a review/rant for anyone in the market for this phone.
I recently had an unfortunate accident with my 6p where a small glass pepper grinder fell on the device from a little over a foot high. This very innocent event caused a barely visible crack, but rendered the lcd/digitizer completely inoperable (would not power on).
The phone performance and features are great, but unless you surround this great looking phone with an otterbox and an extended warranty, it just feels(an obviously is) too fragile. I've read numerous posts regarding this , unfortunately after the fact.
i contacted Huawei support but unfortunately they do not have any type of repair program. I find this kind of ridiculous since most if not all other manufacturers do have a repair program. i understand they shouldn't be responsible for accidental damage, but to not support your customers only a month or two after purchasing your high end products just doesn't make sense.
Hopefully this helps someone and doesn't sound too whiney.
This is why Nexus Protect is a thing.
yeah, i should have done it, but i've never been the type to damage my phones. Always a first i guess.
Are you saying that there is no way to get your phone repaired? Or that Huawei won't do it?

I would not trust anyone to repair this phone other than Huawei, and they won't do it. The youtube videos on disassembly look to hairy or else i would do it myself.
You don't sound whiney at all.
Huawei should have a repair program.
All phone manufacturers should have one.
I have Nexus Protect *AND* still kept insurance in place on my phone.

That is the way it works with all of these type of programs. I'm not sure what you think is BS. There is no other way for Google to ensure that you are buying NP after you have already damaged your device and thus taking advantage of the program.
Phone insurance in 2016 is like computer back-up to me. People that aren't backing up your data off-site in 2016, I have no sympathy for you when your hard drive crashes. Same with phones IMO. If you don't have some sort of protection it's really your own fault at that point. Accidents happen, why would you not spend <=10 bucks a month to protect a ~500 dollar device?
I stopped wasting money on insurance years ago, the manufacturers warranty is it. I just "save" the price of s new device on my savings in the event my phone is lost or stolen. Better than RMA. Horrid customer service etc

I cracked my own screen a week ago and Huawei is replacing the phone for free at no cost. Several others have had the same issue with the same resolution, so your experience is not indicative for everyone. Unfortunately it just depends on the person you get and how willing they are to help you out.

If Huawei won't repair your phone and you won't repair it yourself, and you won't let anyone but Huawei do it then aren't you fairly screwed? You haven't given yourself any options. Does anyone besides Huawei repair these right now?
I dropped my phone from my jeans front pocket down on a ceramic tile floor. Not a scratch - nothing. Everything works. I have a Spigen case and a Intelliarmor screen protector. I'm thinking that whether you damage your device or not is really based on bad luck.

You don't need to add it if you never remove insurance from the line.
I have kept TEC on my line for years.
Every time you add a device it covers the device.
I have never explicitly added a device. I have just never removed it from my line.
I have gotten replacement devices for phones I have purchased from private parties with no issues.
Not to add insult to injury but this is from ifixit...
With enough heat, the panel is easily pried and peeled off, exposing four screws Including one covered with a tamper evident seal. If this is your first visit to iFixit, check out our*Repair Manifesto*to see what we think about things like that.

I'd assume if the tamper resistant seal is broken future warranty work might be questioned. If not, why bother with a tamper resistant seal in the first place?

Worth Ave Group is equally good...and, I can get my device repaired at a CPR-Cell Phone Repair shop that's located within 2 miles of my home (as well as a half dozen other locations within a 30 mile radius)...if my phone breaks, I can get it fixed on my timetable, where I want and never need to mail it off...at worst, my downtime will be 1/2 a day.

Johnny Cash and Me: "I Won't Back Down"

I'm going to hold on as long as I can. If the unlikely were to happen, and I can get Nougat, it will be until my normal phone rotation. I don't fly, don't have kids at home, and my phone is always with me and not unattended, so don't feel like I'm putting anyone or myself at risk. I just don't like any of the options at this time. Everyone here knows it's a great phone and nothing compares right now. Just a darn shame.
I thought the same. Then the email came through. "Your phone has been recalled. Someone is coming Thursday evening between 6 and 9 to pick it up. Have the phone ready. The end".

You must be joking - unless of course you initiated a return. If someone came to my door out of the blue asking for my $800+ phone, I would fall down laughing.
I did not initiate a return, no.
No joke I'm afraid. I didn't even schedule a pick up either. They told me, with out me contacting them.
Sure, if someone came out or the blue and you didn't know who they were. Of course not!
But this isn't some random dude. I bought my phone from Samsung direct. Technically they haven't charged me yet either. So I don't plan on getting a £730 bill for and end of life phone this close to Christmas no matter how much I love it.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Well that is just outrageous! It is something of a loophole that you haven't been charged for it yet. Also I think you're in the UK and consumer laws might differ from US. Think that's a very odd way for them to handle it.
is there a test that we could make for verify if our Note 7 is safe or not? I think samsung it has surrended after the double fool, but could it be possible that all our note 7 are defective? I think no, not all, and that samsung can't continue to find a solution, but we? We surrender? I do not want to.
The test i thinked is to use a navigator app for at least 1 hour on morning under sun.
In that conditions usually the phone that I use become very very very hot.
What do you think?

Until the exact cause of the failure is known, it can't be tested for. You're assuming heat is the cause. This is probably true, but not proven, and even if it is true, there could be secondary conditions necessary to cause the battery failure.

That is an extreme measure. But at least UK is taking it seriously.
