Firmware update offline - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500 model), current Android version 3.1. The tablet works fine, but it has some issues with synchronization.. It doesn't sync to any Google account (I tried 4 different accounts). Whenever I try to download some app from GooglePlay, I get an error (beginning with RPC:S-7:AEC-0). I can't update the firmware, because the tablet can't seem to communicate with the server, and I can not connect the tablet to a PC because it doesn't have the regular USB connector. All I have available is WiFi access and some adapter that allows me to connect a USB stick to the tablet and transfer some files on it.
Before I came here, I searched the web for solutions, and none of them seems to work (clearing cache, removing and re-adding accounts, factory reset).
So, with that in mind, the only solution that I can think of is to try to update the hardware offline, meaning to put the hardware update on an USB stick, transfer it to my tablet and run it locally. Is that possible? If so, please hook me up with a valid firmware for my tablet.

[Q] Phone problem

Hi guys
I have strange problem with my phone - I'm unable to log in to YouTube, MyPhone and MarketPlace. Hard reset was not solving the issue, so I've downloaded new Vodafone UK rom from HTC site. My old one was 1.72, new one is 3.14. With YT it just goes back to log screen, Market and Myphone are giving me "unable to connect" or "download was unsuccessful" message. My internet connection works fine, I can browse sites and even watch movies via build in YT aplication. Tried multiple resets and still the same?
Right, bit more info what I've done. maybe that will throw some light on possible cause of my problem.
I've installed my mobiler and connected phone via Activesync
1st mistake - I did not read what it actually says on screen and unticked all positions on program list (thought this is the list of software that will be installed on my phone)
As you can imagine Activesync started removing all programs from my phone.
2nd mistake - trying to save my phone I quickly disconnected cable.
Some software had been already deleted, including sms patch
then I decided to restore my phone to earlier state using SPB backup
when fnished, I found out, than Sense wouldn't start
So, i decided to do hard reset
after this step I found out, that I was now unable to log into youtube, myphone and marketplace. i can access them from PC level, so I have not forgotten my passwords. Also I can browse internet fine, so it's not my network operator.
Question: is it possible, that SPB somehow damaged rom files?
Thinking that this may be the case I've decided to download fresh rom from HTC site. But after install issue remains

Kies not working

Kies is not working after upgrading to latest OTA. It never worked over USB but workedover over WiFi. Now it says something along "Sim card not inserted". So I cannot put my music in my tablet... Is there any other method to transfer files???
Sent from my SGT10.1 using XDA Premium
IDK if this will help, but you could try using a 3rd party storage system such as dropbox, but it will take longer as you have to upload the files from PC/Computer to dropbox, then download them onto your tab... check what build number you have (setting>about device) as that can also help iidentify you're problem (I had my own problem with Kies, solved by a thread called "Messed up by Android 3.2? Here's a way back." (i am not allowed to post links, sorry just google it))
I had a problem with build P7510UEKGM (or something like that)
Maybe even try the troubleshooting feature on the usb mode of Kies?
Hope I could help
Kies is a program that often fails, I have read numerous posts about people having to reinstall Kies 3/4 times in order to get it working again properly for their device.
Try to reinstall or try to remove your drivers from your pc, install Kies, and it's drivers, when you connect the tab again.

[Q] app data transfer between phones

Hello
I have a rooted Samsung S2 (i9100). I recently purchased an LG G2 phone, and there are a number of apps I want to transfer - including their data - from the Samsung to the LG. However, the latter is not rooted (and I can't root it, because of workplace restrictions), which precludes using Titanium Backup or such. The Samsung is using Android 4.1.2 with a custom ROM and the LG is running Android 4.4.2 with the stock ROM.
I tried using Helium, but it doesn't work on the Samsung for some reason, when I connect my PC to the Helium server running on the Samsung and try to backup apps, I get a virtually empty ZIP file. Complicating the issue, I can't connect the Samsung to the PC using the USB port, as its USB port is malfunctioning (I can charge using it, but the PC doesn't recognize the phone), leaving WiFi as the only option for connection.
So to summarize, I need an app which does the following:
1) Backs up applications including data on a rooted phone.
2) Does not require a USB connection between the source phone and a PC.
3) Allows installation of the app, including data, on a different unrooted phone.
Does anyone know of an app which can do this?
Thanks

[Q] Directory Bind with Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hi there,
After screwing up my Samsung S3 and until I can somehow get it fixed, I am seriously considering purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but really 'only' if I am able to successfully root it and able to run ''Directory-Bind' on it as I do on my S3 now. Could I get a thumbs up here that Directory-Bind is compatible with a Galaxy Note 3 running Android 4.3, or if if it's not compatible, a suitable alternative, as I want to be able to mount an external SD card and run apps/games from that, as I do now with my S3. If Directory-Bind isn't compatible with, can someone please name me a good suitable alternative that is?
As usual, if this question has been answered previously, my apologies.
Thanks in advance.

You need to post in the note 3 forums.
Do you have a s3 i9300? If so why not post whats wrong with it and see if we can get it sorted.

Sorry, my bad, my post was 'supposed' to be in the Note 3 section, I don't know what happened.
Someone already addressed my S3 problem in another thread( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...3-question-t2690307/post54013380#post54013380 see below) , but I still haven't been able, due to illness, to fix it.

I'm in the UK and rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) well over a year ago, using, the CF Root method from these very forums.
All had been working just fine until about a week ago, when I (stupidly) installed an apk that was 'supposed' to add KitKat features to my stock 4.1.2 ROM. It was from this article "http://androidcritics.com/get-android-4-4-kit-kat-android-devices/" that I installed two of the provided apk's, namely 'Google Home' and 'Google Velvet' (an apk that claimed to add 'Google Now' features to my ICS ROM). Now, I so regret taking the risk of installing those two apk's, as now, as soon as my SGS3 has booted up and detected the 64GB SD Card (running with Directory Bind), I get a message that states 'Unfortunately Google Search has stopped'. When I try to open Google Search, it says unable to load data, and trying to run Google Play now always says 'No Connection, retry?' All was fine before I installed those 2 apk's. Even when I try to download something via the Play Store in Firefox on my PC and try to send that to my SGS3, that now fails too. In-game purchases won't connect either (No Connection, again) I'm really confused, because some apps connect to the Internet via WiFi, such as Dolphin Browser,Yahoo Mail and facebook; but, ANYTHING to do with Google, including GMail seems not to or just plain won't connect, although Google maps does connect.
After this problem started, I immediately, using Odin 3 v1.85, successfully flashed my SGS3 with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar, but that has made absolutely no difference and has fixed nothing. My phone is way past its warranty, so getting it fixed by Samsung is out of the question, and my only (hopeful) solution is to ask you guys for a working fix/solution, please?
I've connected my SGS3 to the latest version of Samsung KIES (via USB) on my PC and KIES states there is a software update for my phone available (it doesn't however mention what the software update is or what for), but it says I may lose data on my phone, and I don't want to lose my data and settings; so, somehow, I'm going to need to make some kind of backup, yes? What would be the best application for backing up my internal SD to my PC, as I unfortunately don't even have space on my PC's HDD to make a backup of that at this time.
My SIII states there are 600 installed applications (of which the vast majority still function just fine, except some that need to connect to the net via WiFi (some will and some now won't)), that I really haven't got the time or energy to reinstall all of them again, so can someone please point me in the direction or post(s), explaining the best way to back up my internal memory and settings (I don't have the HDD space to back up the entire data contents of apps on my external SD card at the moment, so I'm guessing backing up the internal 11GB will save all the relevant data I need). I'm sure backing up like this has been covered in a separate post, so any pointers to those posts would be useful, thanks.
But the most important thing for me at the moment are to get my Google Services and Wi-Fi issues fixed.
One last problem.....When I try to open Applications Manager in Settings, it stays open for about 10 seconds then force-closes. I'm guessing that having the high number of installed apps n games installed is causing this, is it? Because of this, I don't seem to be able to delete the davik cache on things like Google Play, etc.
I've managed to reset (global) App preferences in Applications Manager, but that's as far as I can get in there before it force-closes itself.
I've tried logging on to YouTube, using my regular Google account, but nothing happens.....I don't get it. Would I need to remove my regular Google account from my phone and then fill it in again??
I even reinstalled Google Play (Playstore v4.0.27.apk) and Google Search, but both still don't connect to the Net.
If you have any other questions regarding my problems) or need any more details from me, to help with a solution to these problems, then please go ahead and ask me. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to put is as much detail about my problems as I could.
Many thanks in advance, sincerely, Al."
Briefly, the problem is, I tried installing a couple of APK's on my rooted 4.1.2 Samsung Galaxy S3 that were supposed to install Google Now. They pretty much did that, and it's working, but it has screwed up just about everything else Google-related, including Gmail (just always force-closes), Google Play (won't connect), Now, when I try to log into my Google account on my S3 (with my correct email and password), I always get the message "Couldn't sign in - Can't establish a reliable connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care."
This was never a problem before since I removed my Google account from my S3 and tried to add it again, in order to try to fix the problems with Google Plat and Gmail. Now, Google Plus doesn't work too.
Everything else, all apps n games, including Wi-Fi connection to my router work just fine, except connection to the Play store and trying to update or add apps to my S3 via my PC.
I've been told to download an original stock 4.1.2 ROM in zip format and stick it on my external SD card, but I have yet to find exactly where to find a stock 4.1.2 ROM in zip format in order to put it on my external SD card - any pointers would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I hope this covers everything for a minute.
Cheers, Al

sms not backing up

Hello everyone.
Please, I would need your help to the following issue I have.
I have a pretty old cell phone: Samsung Galaxy GT-S7580. And I want to backup sms messages, but only locally on PC.
Samsung's smart switch does not support this model.
Samsung's Kies does support it. I installed Kies on PC, and I have indeed backuped up on PC: contacts (SIM+device), S-Planner and calling log. The only one that it's missing is sms messages backup.
Although Kies util does have this option of sms backup, when I tap on it, it does not make the backup. I do not know why there is this option there.
Cell's phone Android version is 4.2.2, which cannot be updated (max that can be done).
I have tried also Coolmuster Android Assistant program, but, unfortunately, it does not support specific model.
Can you please help me backup up the sms messages locally?
Thank you for your time!

Thank you for your answer. The problem is that the program cannot find the device (cell phone). When trying connect, cannot detect it.
It's very strange, because Kies from Samsung does detect it, and also, Windows explorer displays it as device, and with double clicking, I can see phone's contents/data.
You need to install MyPhoneExplorer Client on your phone, which communicates with MyPhoneExplorer on windows.
Everything is described at www.fjsoft.at

Hi!
I think that it's possible that your phone may not be compatible with MyPhoneExplorer. In this case, you could try a different backup app that supports your device.
Thanks again for quick answer. The problem is that phone is completely full and out of space. I cannot install application (lient).
Even if I try to uninstall a util/program from phone, what I have understood and come in inclusion all these years is that when from cell phones (as far as it concerns Play Store and Android), so, when uninstalling, in truth nothing happens. Nothing I mean no truly files of "uninstalling" application is removed. All application files stay on phone, and in truth, the only thing that is being removed is application icon. No space is being gaind with "uninstall".
See if you can do sms backup through google service.
https://guidebooks.google.com/android/getstarted/backupyourmessages
I do not want to use Google or any other cloud backup provider. I want to use hard drive locally PC backup and restore.
I agree that MyPhoneExplorer is not compatible with my phone. Would you have any other application that would help for locally backup/restore?
I checked in a device with android 4.1.2 and everything works fine.
- check what applications you have installed
adb shell pm list packages
- identify them and determine the unnecessary ones
- uninstall, for example:
adb shell pm uninstall com.ivona.tts.voicebeta.fra.fra.celine
Once you free up space, install the old version of the client, start MyPhoneExplorer on your PC, connect via USB to your phone and let MyPhoneExplorer update the client version on your phone to the version appropriate for your phone.
These commands: where should I execute them? On a Linux PC? And when:
a. First have connected PC and phone with USB cable and
b. Then on PC (if Linux) I execute them?
Or somewhere else? Please, if you don't mind, a little more help would appreciate.
On your phone, activate USB debugging.
Download SDK Platform-Tools for your OS
Connect the phone to your PC with a USB cable
Confirm access on the phone
Check in the terminal on the PC the visibility of the phone by adb devices
Execute the remaining commands.
I have found the way to execute adb commands.
Now, there is other problem. Insufficient space for application.
I try apps to uninstall, but no result. 1-1 and try to install, with no result. The 3-rd party apps I have installed are with small size. So, 1 by 1 uninstalling has no result, and I lose time.
2 applications with big size that maybe would be the solution to uninstall, unfortunately are not third party. They are system. These 2 are:
Galaxy Apps
YouTube
If I uninstall them (I have no problem unistalling, I do not use them on old Galaxy), so, if I uninstall them, would it make any s/w damage to phone (maybe no startup later)?
I know that I will use Motorola new phone now, but just in case I need something in old phone some day. So, with these two uninstall, I would be ok or not?
If the system allows you to uninstall system applications, it actually enables you to return to the initial version.
This is also a benefit, because there will be smaller versions.
By far, thing are better.
I made space on Samsung. I installed MyPhoneExplorer on Samsung, Motorola and Windows.
First, I backed up from Samsung contacts + SMS on two files respectively. Then, I run MyPhoneExplorer on Motorola.
I restored contacts on Motorola. It worked fine.
The only problem I have is that SMS cannot be sent to Motorola. When I try to send them (try to restore) on Motorola, on internal storage or in e.g. sent folder for a sent SMS, I get error message: "Messages could not be sent".
Seems like something on Motorola is locked, and stops SMS restore/transferring. Or maybe a setting on Motorola settings or on the application is the solution.
Or maybe I make something wrong to the SMS restore procedure.
Ok. Everything worked perfect.
With SDK platform tools, and "MyPhoneExplorer" and "SMS Backup & Restore" apps, I backed up and restored everything to new Motorola Moto G32.
Your advice was extremely helpful!! Thank you so much!!
In order not open another post, I think that my last problem/question fits to this one.
It's about last backup and restore I want to make from old Samsung to new Motorola. It has to do with Samsung's calendar which is S Planner.
problem is :
a. I want to make the backup not via Google. As above-mentioned for other backups (sms, contact, call log). With a 3rd party app. And not via Kies. Kies will make the backup from Samsung, but it can't be used on Motorola. Have already tried use on Motorola, but Kies is working just on Samsung. So, have you any app to suggest for S Planner backup on old Samsung Android 4.2.2, and, at the same time, be used as a restore app for Motorola?
b. If a. is solved, difficult b. now is that S Planner calendar, as an app, is only for Samsung phones. So, I am trying to find a calendar app alternative to S Planner, to install on Motorola, in order to restore there the calendar backup I will have got from my old Samsung.
Would REALLY appreciate your help!
