Camera flash bleed - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my phone for about 6 months now, and never taken a photo with the flash in a very dark room - until now that is. See attached - it's a photo taken in my house's attic. Do others have this problem? Or is it just me? If my phone is defective, unfortunately I bought the one from Amazon with no warranty: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Compact-...TF8&qid=1461862592&sr=1-4&keywords=z5+compact
Luckily, I have almost no need for taking flash pictures in dark rooms, but it's irritating none the less.

It's common and not only to the z5c, it has been like that in a few of the z phones. Any case you throw on will amplify the problem as well. The camera sucks in almost every situation, but in low light you see obviously it's useless, it's a shame. You could try a new battery back, they're only a couple bucks.

Yeah I have a z1c and I remember this being a huge topic of discussion right after it was released. The z1c was never this bad though. This photo was taken without case.

what colour is your z5c?

Hi, i have exactly the same problem, dark room with flash just blows green shadows on the picture...i rarely take photos with flash, but just want to understand if this is common for all z5c phones, or just to few defect batches only. Otherwise i will ask the seller to do exchange.
Thanks

I have same issue after replacing a broken backdoor.
The cheap backdoor bought on ebay was missing a gasket around the camera lens.
So the light from the led was "running" on the inside on the backdoor.
I have fitted a thin adhesive tape around the led so the light only gets out trough the led opening.

Try pressing the back cover several times before taking a picture.
Its work on my phone, flash bleed gone.
I do this every time i want to take photos with flash
Or you can open the back cover then replace the adhesive with strong adshive (I recommend b7000)
The problem may be due to the back cover glue that has been weakened by overheating issue.

also you should attach thick duct tape beside the flash glass (between flash and camera)

That only happened to me after I replaced the rear cover. It's missing an additional layer

The missing one is the camera gasket that prevent dust and light bleed from the camera flash

[Q] Camera stains

Hello, I have the Z2 for two months and I noticed that maybe 40-50% of the surface of the camera has stains on it.
I've seen on the forum that some of you experience scratches on the camera, which means the oleophobic coating is wearing out, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Does the camera have a factory protective foil on it? I can't really tell. I'll come back with a photo.

Did u put your phone into water? maybe the water stains are there because the cameralens glass has a little leak?
I hope you post a pic soon so we can actually see whats the problem
I did put it in a swimming pool a few times, I'll post a photo as soon as I find another device to take a macro with it.
Erm. I think this normal. Mine also hv that stain problem before. The reason is maybe that water was abit cold.. Dont worry that stain will be removed by itself, if not try put your device with the rice.
Hard to focus macros with an Iphone 6, but those should do the job

This is the antireflection coating.Almost every phone has it and also almost every new phone suffer from that issue.Wipe it out with some gel/toothpaste/water.
I've heard of it, but I didn't think it happens to new phones as well. Will the quality of the photos decrease?
i have exactly the same problem, but your's is worse than mine :/ i'm afraid that removing UAV will effect my pictures quality

I put it in a swimming pool in the winter, maybe that didn't help, and the chlorine in the water as well. I still have a warranty for 20-21 months, so I'm thinking of sending it in to see if it's covered, doesn't seem like something that should happen so fast to me. Does anybody know what's Sony's policy? Do they replace the whole phone? I'm worried of the phone not being waterproof if they open it to replace some parts.

I removed it after my photo become blurry due to scratches on the coating. I believe its better to remove it if there are scratches on it, and photo become blurry. The image quality should be the same on normal use, but a bit worse under bright light

Camera dust

I got some dust particles on the inside of the lens which really annoys me. Due to this the camera does not focus correctly.
I really want to keep the phone waterproof so i am afraid to take it apart to clean it. Anyone experience similar issues or even swapped the backcover? Any recommendations for a backcover that ensures waterproof ability after swapping it?
thanks!

If you're getting dust under the lens you're obviously not water tight. I have ordered a replacement back and it cracked just picking it up. I don't know how fragile the original is but I'd be very careful while removing it. New seals can be bought for a few bucks.
not sure where this came from - the body is 100% waterproof...maybe "dust" particle is not the correct explanation
maybe is scratch dots from keys in you pocket?
it abit look like dust...
i mixed my pockets by mistake and left few dots maybe u did it lots of times.. ( i know the lens is plastic and not scratch resistance ) so i try to avoid keys in the same pocket

the scratches on the outside of the lens are no problem since the sony coated this and also polishing is working quite well. also i checked this several times with a magnifier.
i have uploaded a picture of the particle that causes the faulty autofocus. at the picture on the right you can see that this is on the inside of the lens.
since the phone is waterproof this is quite clearly a production fault but since i need the phone for my everyday work and life issuing a rma at sony is no option for me.
i was just wondering is someone else experienced anything similar or swapped the backcover and tested waterproof
You can test your waterproofness of your phone to do the pressure test in the service menu.
Go to dialer and dial *#*#service#*#*, go to service test and then pressure sensor. The value indicated on the screen should increase by pressing on your screen when the phone is still waterproof.

How much does yours go up? Mine started at 997 millbar and goes up to 1002 millbar max when I started seeing discoloration from pushing the LCD too hard.

that's fine. Mine is also just a few millibar. try it with the simtray flap open. It won't increase a bit.

Hi
I have had the same kind of dust in my XZ5
I sent it back and they have exchanged with a new device.
Manufacturing issue... It could happen
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
since sony support couldn't offer me an adequate solution for their manufacturing error I decided to find a solution by myself.
primary most important was for me that i do not open the device.
I got rid of the particle by freezing the phone in the freezer for 20min and tapping on the lens. The particle fell off and now somewhere i do not care about )
if someone has a similar issue this might be also an alternative solution
Same problem here. It supprises me the presition in which this product was conceived with programmed obsolescence. Just after guaranty ended I began to notice blurs and dust.
I suppose gaskets became less performant as they get harder and they can't hold pressure changes anymore, like when you take a plane or enter a tunnel in a train.

I have the same translucent gray dust spots on my rear camera, and tapping and bumping with strenght makes them moving around. Of course this is programmed obsolescence.
Moreover they fill phones with glue and adhesives for "water-proofness" purposes... but after 2 years of daily use, noone sane minded would submerge any phone and if you have the need, you can't easily fix anything inside the phone or change battery if you aren't a technician , because you have to use professional tools to melt glue and move parts.
That's the current world of "water-proof", thin smartphones.
Something must change if we don't want to swim in oceans made of electronic rubbish in the near future.

Broken Camera (purple screen)

My rear camera isn't working properly anymore so I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem so if I can confirm the likely culprit. Whenever I use the rear camera the screen is mainly purple and pixelated and I can only just about see the background through it all.
The front (selfie) camera is fine so I'm just thinking about replacing the camera at the back but thought I'd ask around in case anyone knew of any other common problem it could be in case I was barking up the wrong tree.
I tried to upload a picture of what it looked like but couldn't manage it.
I've watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to replace it and I'm happy to have a go but if anyone's got any experience/advice on that too it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

hi,
I had same problem two weeks ago. Suddently the rear camera gone to pink the frontal was good. After the initial panic, I've tried to search internet, on some forums was said to gently push around the rear lens and the camera will show something. Some one says that use this method pushed firmly around the ring and the camera was fixed, some others no.
In my case, pushing around the camera, initially worked for a couple of seconds, then the image was flickering with vertical green lines, noises, and interlaced "grid" grey scan lines like old videogames. then was hardly usable only pushing around the rim for about one minute for take a normal photo. here is the attachments of panic:silly:
I think the camera was damaged by too much overheat that unglued the backplate, and consequentially the use or some hit or light fall may had damaged the flex sensor or the placement lens on the motherboard. In fact in the previous months i had noticed the backplate was moving if poked with fingers on the edges. I mean gently pressed and the back plate was moving. Doing the pressure factory test, it was around 1020,3-1001Millibar on static and changed when pressed on screen or on the back. I had a dbrand skin on the back and due to the heat shrinked and became smaller. I think the overheat was caused by the firmware updates and some app that sucked away the battery in years. Upgrading from Lollipop, twice to MM, to Nougat, in years and then in the last time some flash to MM and then to Nougat again give it the final hit, especially the first time power up after flashing when you have to set everything from scratch.
I sent it in warranty repair, for camera damaged, added the request to swap battery due to duration (because on June the warranty ends ) and to check and fix the IP68 requirements, also noticing very overheat issues.
Now the pressure test is a solid fixed 999,01-999,03Millibar and the feel is more solid in general when handled. If you have luck when Sony repair it, the screen protector on the front if you have applied, won't be touched, only the back.
good luck
So did they just replace the camera module that is plugged in to the top at the back? (obviously apart from battery too).
Your post seems to suggest overheat which caused motherboard damage too.
Unless I've read it wrong you're suggesting swapping the camera will fix the problem.
I know I'd obviously need a new back cover too.

Back glass adhesive

i had the screen replaced on my s9+ because of the black crushing, the problem is solved now, however, there is another issue
the back glass doesn't seem to be glued perfectly to the phone
can i simply heat the glue with a hairdryer and press it together? or will that damage my device?
thanks!

Whats not perfectly and can you post a pic? Wouldn`t mess with it myself, i assume you have warranty so let the repair centre fix it.
I'd leave it as is and try and get them to sort it out. They are ruthless when it comes to repairs. They refused to repair my wifes S7 because the battery had expanded and cracked and popped the back off. Apparently according to them there was "signs of unauthorised entry" and they refused to replace it based on that, as well as there being water ingress (they have little stickers inside the phone that change colour when water comes into contact. Which they tell me was the reason for the battery expanding.
It got dropped in the bath, once, for a matter of seconds. I might be mistaken, but they're meant to be water resistant up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes?
they refused to replace the screen, which was damaged (we didnt damage it it just refused to come on despite the rest of the phone working) and they told us that user caused impact has caused it, they wanted £240. I told them to send it back and I'd repair it myself. They sent it back with a new battery "for safety reasons" and then a new back. Which popped off in a matter of seconds. So after all that they solved nothing and saved me money.
thank you for your replies, but i've managed to fix it
i didn't want to bring it again to the repair shop, because it's far away from my home
what i did was i put the phone on a piece of cloth, screen down
then i took a hairdryer and started to heat up the back glass
after it had become too hot to touch, i folded the cloth over the phone and pressed it with my hands
i did this two times and now it's perfectly sealed without any gaps between the glass and the frame

You know that hot glass breaks very easy, so you had luck.
But now your phone may have compromised water resistance.
So samsung does replace the screen under warranty for black crush issues? By fixed, you mean when you watch a dark video with low brightness, the blacks won't become pixelated anymore? Please reply because i might want to send it back to them too.

Yeah, i don't think that's the case, i put my phone in a bowl filled with water and no bubbles were coming out, so i'm positive the water resistance is still there

I had to replace my screen as well because i'd dropped my device and it shattered completely. When i got it back from the repair center i noticed that the battery cover wasn't pressed to the frame all the way. I gave it back to them saying that there was dust trapped underneath the cover (i thought they would refuse my request if i had told them the real reason ) so my camera wouldn't take clear photos. In the end they replaced both of the back cameras and the battery cover looool :laugh: now it's all glued together as it should be

Why is the camera flash discoloring my pictures?

There was some dust under the lens of my Z5C so I got that cleaned about a month ago. Today I tried taking a picture/video with the flash on, and the image got completely discolored. I tried it using the stock camera app and other camera apps as well, so I don't think it's a software issue. What could be causing this? Thanks.
Here's an example:

unfortunately i think u are experiencing same than me, i had same problem with my flash, and also my battery time was becoming lower...
finally i felt in ma hand something different in a back corner but cant see what it was
with time my battery came worst and worst, my pics too and it became visible tha my back plate was slowly opening
now its totally clear, its almost gone bc the battery inflated, wich moved the back cover (around 2mm opened on the bottom left corner) and make the flash reflect on the lense
aloso now my phone shuts down around 60% battery
hope its understandable, english is a bit hard for me

Thanks! I think you're right because when I press the back cover down, the picture is normal even with the flash on. I'll replace the battery and hopefully that will fix it.
I have broken back cover. There was no problem with camera on beginning. After back cover stick out even 1 mm led light start to illuminate by reflection to the camera and bright the dust on lens and under it. Simplest solution is to get new back cover adhesive.
