GT-I9300 IMEI problems - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was just surfing the net and my s3 started flickering and shut down. After that I tried to turn it on but it was in an infinite start (bootloop) on the samsung logo. Went to recovery mode (stock, phone was never rooted) and saw that there was an efs problem (was saying failed to mount efs) so I cleared the cache and factory resetted the phone. After lots of searching found this https://youtu.be/xJMJLdzHaAY
Flashed it with odin ( I think it is an efs file) burt hthe big problem is that when the phone booted up I cannot make calls. So the imei lost. (It is 499****....). I will be very happy if someone helps me!

Have you done it as on youtube was? Did you flash /efs from I9100? And what is your soft version? The newest avaible?
If I remember well, stock with modem MG4 was repartioning /efs and then any try to back to previous modem version were finished bricked /efs.
What can you do right now then? Your situation is so complicated, try to flash fully the newest stock avaible, maybe it will help but I don't think so. The last think afterwards which may help you is repartioning, but it also may not help.
When u have never rooted so I can bet u have no /efs backup, so thats why its so complicated

It happened so unexpectedly. Dont know even why. It just shuted down and thats it.

@marti2003 If you have your original IMEI then you can fix it using z3x box after rooting your device

I have it under the battery but dont have a z3x box. But I will just give the phone to a repair shop (not samsung).

The device is already rooted but I rooted it after the efs problems

@marti2003 Good :good: but you have to give them your original IMEI

Have it under the battery

Flashing custom ROM kills EFS

I have problem with flashing, bought sgs2 today, wanted to make flash custom rom, phone is rooted with Doomlord exploit and there is cf root kernel flashed for cwm access (flashed via odin mobile), no simlock
When I flash any custom rom, phone apk keeps crashing, there is no cellular network and no IMEI in About the Phone section. I have tried restoring IMEI with EFS pro but after reboot its the same problem. I have EFS backup and nandroid backup.
What is wrong, I have two other phones, sgs2 and note, I didn't have those problems before, what is wrong this time? Any help will be great for me, I would appreciate ideas.
Is your phone plugged in to the wall charger or a USB port.
I used a custom ROM that would not allow me to reboot plugged in. Same problems as you.
When I reboot unplugged, service returns.

I'm aware of this problem, happend to me before, but unplugging doesn't help in that case. When I delete nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 it helps instantly but returns after reboot.
I have nv_data.bak in this folder and its some old file, like 2010 old, should I deleted it or something?
solved with wipe, which gave me random IMEI then restored right one with EFS Pro (thanks a lot for Dev Team of that app)
I keep reading about people loosing their ime after a flash but never bothered to remember if the flash was via CWM or Odin.
This might already have been investigated and I've missed it but it would be nice to know if anyone has lost their ime using Odin or if it's only through CWM.
This looks like it's happening more and more so it would be good to find out the cause.

This happened me yesterday, glad you managed to fix it, I didn't have a backup but thankfully there is a market app called GSII-repair and it can restore imei without a backup, hope this helps someone

Struggling to fix ukn IMEI & Baseband on 4.2 Slim

So I just flashed slim and the kb5 modem and now the imei is dead and my sim can't be recognized.
I actually didn't know Samsung were infamous for imei issues so I didn't research this beforehand. Anyway I have an efs folder, but when I copied that folder to / and fixed permissions nothing changed.

Remind me to never try Sammy again, now I can't get into recovery and phone is not booting. Only DL mode is accessible.

If you can get to Download mode, your device should be fine.
Restore back to stock (your IMEI should be back), and then continue from there.
The Heimdall one-click did not work for me. It complained about partitions.
The "All in One" toolbox (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509) contains a PIT and TAR file. This is the partition layout (I think) and stock OS that can be restored via Odin.

Thanks, but I managed to restore it with Odin later that day. Now I have IMEI in CM10.1, sadly I cannot get the MIC to work(so people can't hear me in calls). I googled this issue and have tried turning on/off mute to no avail.
Also I only have this issue when flashing Slim+cyan core(not sure which is the issue, i'm too scared to try either).

Do a clean wipe and reinstall your ROM and it should fix the mic issue if it doesn't then try another ROM. If that doesn't fix it reflash stock in Odin and see if it works on stock if it doesn't that its a he isue

Thanks but I solved the IMEI issues a few times(certain rom+kernel combos break it). As for the MIC it is actually doa, which the seller failed to mention to me.

Need help with mobile data.

I was using tw 4.1.2 and wanted to try the unofficial cm11 4.4. It said to use latest cwm witch I did. I formatted system, cache, data reset. Then I formatted the tombstone and firmware and then bam no mobile data. I think I did something wrong. I did not mean to format the tombstone and the firmware but mobile data will not work anymore. Please help I have a Verizon note 2 i605. I flashed back to stock backup but no mobile data.
I've been at this for a while, so your question surprises me. I have to ask, what's a "tombstone"?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
Reflash your phone with the stock restore Odin file and don't touch the tombstone partition next time.
I did flash back stock with odin every thing works great on tw. I reroot flash latest cwm 6.0.4.3 did a factory data reset, flash unofficial cm11 11/26, flash 4.4 gapps and reboot. Data is still broke. No way to set apn or change to cdma/lte. Cm10.2 works fine.

You have now probably bricked your device you should never repartition or nand erase unless you know exactly what you are doing and I mean exactly! I am sorry to say I think your phone is not recoverable! Someone put me straight if I am wrong..
I read somewhere on xda that try to repartition by doing a nand erase. It still goes in download mode. I once bricked it before by flashing a corrupt rom wasn't downloaded completely. But it didn't give get pit for mapping error. Is it possible that pit file is missing? I flashed 4.3 from 4.1.2 it shouldn't give this error. Wht do you think is the possible cause?
