Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Petition - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Friends ask you to support the petition
Contents of the petition
Dear Xiaomi, lay out the kernel source with HAL drivers, if you are not going to support this device in updates (I'm talking about android nougat), we feel that we are all from, all already received in nougat, and we are always waiting for you .. I think this statement will help us!
Do not be indifferent to battle
https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/xiaomirn4

Guys we should try to do something,
We can not stay without the good support of a fairly robust device.
Even if you are not the owner of a given device, I sincerely ask you to vote.

what difference with it ( https://goo.gl/55rv81 )?
I think we should join and gathering peoples.

i have always wonder... does this online petitions actually works for something? Like if i were Xiaomi i wouldn't care if 500 persons sign a petition when i have sold millions of phones already.

It won't, but if the numbers are large enough normally companies will review whatever it is the petition is asking and either compromise (unlikely) or just give an explanation on why is it taking so long.
These are companies too, they have policies not for the public eye so we can't really get what we want all the time.

Signed it, takes about 10 seconds and better than doing nothing or just moaning on forums where Xiaomi won't be looking anyway.

Operation #MotoBBB

Operation #MotoBBB:
I really don't know how useful making a new petition at Change.org is going to do, given that OP MOSH didn't lead us anywhere. But I feel that this + the BBB complaint rally may take us somewhere. Because, for each new BBB complaint, Motorola receives a brand new complaint, a brand new email to reply to and each email they ignore, the more their ratings and ranking and reputation will be affected at BBB.
So, here is the new petition @Change.org:
https://www.change.org/petitions/mo...s-unlock-the-bootloaders?share_id=ZhoxoqVsuz&
The aim of the petition is to get an apology from Motorola and Verizon, get all our Bootloaders unlocked AND get all the devices released within 18 months of the ICS release date to be updated to ICS.
The aim of the BBB complaint is to submit a personal, one on one complaint to Motorola. The way this works is that Motorola will get an email detailing the complaint and they should respond to it within a month, else it will count negatively on their ratings at BBB. An XDA member named iBolski already did this and he got a very detailed response. So this seems to be effective.
Secondly, I and several other users at the Droid X2 forums have also filed a complaint. Though we didn't get a response yet, I feel that Motorola is taking its time as it wants to respond correctly. So, I feel that this is adding pressure to them. Nevertheless, the fact that they MUST respond, otherwise face consequences definitely means that if a sizeable number of people complain, they will be under severe pressure.
So far 9,279 people signed the OP MOSH petition. I can't imagine how much pressure this will cause if each person who signed that petition also filed a BBB complaint. So many BBB complaints in such a short time would firstly be a record and secondly will be a huge pressure on Motorola who HAVE to respond to each and everyone of them, else face consequences.
Therefore, I URGE you to file a BBB complaint, even if you Don't sign the petition. But please do sign the petition once you file a complaint since that way I will know how many of you guys filed a BBB complaint!
Attached is a template letter for filing for the BBB complaint AND instructions on how to do so!
May we prevail! Please do submit this thread as a news tip! The more people know about this, the stronger we get! If you want to follow my ongoing struggle with Motorola, go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547632
Instructions to File BBB Complaint + Template Complaint
God speed!
P.S: Moderators, upon consulting with a few xda members I felt that this is NOT spamming as I am soliciting the help of members across several forums. Hence, please do not ban or in other ways punish me. If this is spam, kindly let me know, since I have done this for the first time and moreover, as can clearly be seen from the post I am bringing forth a genuine concern that needs me to post this across all Motorola android phone forums! Thank you for understanding.

I don't understand why you're so complacent with a locked bootloader. Why do you drink the kool-aid like the rest of the sheeple ?

I'd like to thank this and the previous post, but I ran out of thanks for today! What the!? How am I limited to thank people? In real life I thank as much and as often as I can, so XDA you can learn a thing or two!

PROTIP: The Better Business Bureau RARELY does ANYTHING about a company that pays their BBB dues. And you can bet your bippy that both Google and Motorola Mobility pay their BBB dues.
Who actually checks the rankings of the bbb!? They're just a self promoting business themselves, with no real power to pressure any business to make any changes. If you want to affect a business don't buy it's products.

Samsung Exynos Movement(POLL ADDED)

By now you guys may have heard of the latest news regarding Samsung's unwillingness to release documentation about their Exynos chip based devices. Codeworkx and Entropy have been trying for quite some time now but Samsung has responded in a somewhat optimistic fashion. The story is in the portal if you haven't seen it yet.
I'm posting this here so we can get as many people as possible to contact Samsung via all the social media avenues we have(twitter,Facebook, google+, etc). Lets tell them what we want and the possibility that we may go with another manufacturer for our next device(I.e LG Nexus device, hopefully open source).

I'll get the next nexus and wash my hands of this sordid galaxy business.
If it's LG, so be it. Samsung makes great hardware but I feel like they string us along on the support front.

As am I, but Samsung needs to start giving it up. And look at how much emphasis they've placed on the whole emmc brickbug issue. They have great design and hardware elements, but if there are less devs to support the continuity and customization of these Samsung devices, then it makes all the more sense for me to jump ship. I don't like the other manufacturers, but if they are more supportive of developers in terms of code release, etc. then that's where i'll be heading. Or I might just buy a Nexus device. Samsung needs to stop being so darn stingy.

Samsung doesn't NEED to do anything... them providing anything more than the product itself (and warranty support) is going above and beyond.

Agree with this. People are becoming more tech savvy each day, and even my dad wants ICS/JB on his phone. He is 50, but he readed on the net about the update, saw some videos and know he is looking to buy a new phone shipped with ICS that will receive the update to JB. I told him that he should buy a phone with good dev support in case he decides to root and flash rom (had to explain what that was, but he got it pretty fast). He agreed

So true. One of my co-workers was a staunch Blackberry fan; when his phone tanked and he went back to our telecoms provider (the S3 had just been released), he convinced them to upgrade him to an S3 instead of replacing the dead BB with another one. Now he's complaining about the JB update taking so long, etc. , and he can't wait for his warranty to run out so he can root... lol
Even my friends who mostly go for iPhones where I am (so many of them it's ridiculous) are on average more tech savvy than I usually think, but the people with Android phones more often want to learn about rooting and roming and they come to me for that and I always lead them here. So it isn't just the tech geeks now.

thats the thing... they don't NEED to do anything but provide the hardware and warranty. it doesn't matter to them, as a large corporation, if people mod the phones or not. people will still buy the hardware.
the relatively few of us that want the full support are nowhere near the amount of people that just don't care... which is exactly why (it makes me feel dirty saying it) apple can get away with phones that are nothing more than functioning paperweights compared to what we do with out phones. the masses dictate the sales, not us as a small group (in comparison).
samsung will just come out with a better version of TW to try and get people to not want full support, thats a better business model for them when you think about their users as a whole.
it's business 101, do whats best for the masses, not the few.

I would say its "Marketing 101", and the term you might be looking for is Niche Market.

Make Xiaomi aware of how many people wants the kernel source

I started a thread on the horrible MIUI forums to make XIaomi aware of how important it is for all of us that they release the kernel source. Bump it and come with input if you want to help:

Good luck you will need it. They almost never post it and when they do it is broken or incomplete. That's why developers won't buy their devices.

CM is slowly becoming the os for developing countries. Most roms no longer even use their source for anything.
Also you have to remember you get what you pay for. And every one plus device has had issues. Then add in the fact that they do things that upset people like their sexist ad campaign.
Yes a few roms for it. That comes from people buying the device and brining it up. The main developers for the roms never own them themselves.
You have to remember. Developers don't really care about the price of the device. If it is worth it they will pay for it. I can't blame them. I have paid full price for every device I have ever owned and they were always 700+. Takes a bit of saving. But if it's worth it then it's not a big deal.

In many countries import taxes make a $700 phone cost over $2000, and I heard from a dev in brazil that they can't even import cellphones at all which is why apple had to build a factory to make iphones there or else they couldn't access that market, and is a big one

Thanks for the support, and what's the main difference between a bounty and petition? (On XDA at least?) How will it do us better?

Okay, a bounty involves donations, which does seem more attractive to Samsung, but I'm not sure how to set up donation links, secure payment, etc.... If someone does and makes a thread, that'll be cool too.

Signed. Doubtful, but hopeful. I don't know the rules around it but I feel like setting up a community bounty and seeing who would be willing to chip in might be a bit more effective. I feel like the Snap Note 8 community is pretty sizable to sum up enough of a bounty to attract some capable hackers to put some time in.
Signed I'm sure it won't matter but at least we tried right? Hopefully someone can eventually bust this thing wide open would be a nice phone to do whatever we want on it. MAN why did I go back to the AT&T route instead of international unlocked?
Signed.
Later than sooner, i wont say it's impossible, but for sure damn near. It's about forums and private site's, (US) who will make it possible. I've been programming for a little over 20 years although a different kind, CNC programming. Ive taken apart many phones including the note 8. Making a custom removable back cover is easy but when it comes down to analyzing every part in the phones. G-code was my first programming language to ever learn but 20 years later ive come to understand many languages. I'm just one part of a large group of people, each with a different set of skills. If anyone know's how to read a blueprint or schematics, or have a knowledge of how qualcomm bootloaders work in general on the note 8 specifically. sorry if this not the right place to post, ive been aware of the forum for long, signed up when the s8 came out. I want to contribute, just never have thought saying thing here as i havnt seen anything about custom modifications so the physical parts.
Signed still haven't lost faith

So to be clear, a petition shows a desire by the community to change something. Even if you got 10,000 signatures. Thats a small small slice of the pie for Samsung.
Bounties are to give individuals that may have the know how to achieve a goal, some incentive to do so via monetary compensation. I highly doubt a company like samsung or any large publicly traded company would even acknowledge a bounty and Im sure there are some legal rules against doing so. Not to mention they stand to make more money from NOT unlocking the bootloader and compromising knox than they stand to make from a bounty on xda..
If this bootloader is to ever be unlocked it will be by a team of code breakers as it took a team of coders to create this bootloader I'm sure. The bounty has to be a lot higher. Maybe there's a way of hard wiring through the eeprom and recoding the bootloader. I knew someone who did that to recode the mileage on a new odometer without going to the car dealer but I guess that's rookie stuff compared to this.
only a bounty on XDA would even make it ever so slightly possible; some talented folks have tried since day 1 without success..
petition to Samsung? now THATS funny!
They could care less about any sort of petition to make their devices less secure..
Signed,
I hope that the snapdragon variant does get an unlocked bootloader, but I would be extremely surprised if that ever happened. It is all completely under control of the US carriers as they are the driving force that causes the bootloader to remain locked. I originally had a Canadian SM-N950W and after being annoyed by how I couldn't do what I want with my own hardware that I shelled out a pretty penny for, I recently bought a SM-N950F from Amazon and sold the W. I think that's probably everyone's best way to go. Voting with your wallet is the only way to solve such problems. Although, since there is a large majority of users who have the snapdragon models who don't care to root, I don't see it making a huge difference in the long run.

Wallet is only way to vote unfortunately. Why would they ever unlock this when the note 4 is still locked? Eol phone and they don't unlock it, reason being then you wouldn't buy the new model. This will never happen, I'm sorry.
Note 8 killed my Samsung loyalty. All previous tv's phone etc. Never again.

Mate 10 Pro or HTC U11+

This phone or HTC U11+? My concerns are great point and shoot camera, LTE connectivity (T-Mobile), and ROM development. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated, thanks all!
Dude, really?
I mean, I'm not trying to flame you for your question, but for clarification, imagine i say this?
What's better, a Ford Fiesta or a Ford Mustang? (Even though in my example both are the same parent company)
Do some research and come back and make me proud!

Fair, dumping my HTC U11+ and moved to this. Just more going on and I'm enjoying the buttery smooth Rom and connectivity. Then again, a Mustang in the wrong hands.......

I have BLA-L09, European single sim, with yours have you been able to get VoLTE? I might rebrand to gain this feature as I missed it with the U11+.
And I'll ask a follow up question, would you take this over a Pixel 2 XL?

I imagine all phones are stalking us. Huawei has the current spying rep against it but again, all do this, just to what degrees.

A rep is something you have earned. Huawei hasn't earned anything as that's unfounded; how convenient! When you factor in Huawei's current might and abilities in contrast to the US counterparts (and I'm not talking Apple (because, as we all know, Samsung is Korean, but I'm thinking more like Qualcomm, at&t, etc (each in its respective covered fields)

Yes, they're all doing it, and it's not gonna go away, but i don't see Huawei losing battle after antitrust violation battle in EU, of course, because Stateside, they're each other's buddies (u.s. government and Google)...
Now that would make concrete evidence against Huawei, too bad THEY DON'T HAVE ANY

All fair points, I'm now wondering if it's worth paying to rebrand to the US Mate 10 Pro to gain VoLTE. Hmmmm....
