While multitasking or doing heavy tasks like gaming the music automatically lags a lot because of that the experience is ruined even when the device is locked and unlocked the music jiters quiet a bit i don't why it happens!?!?

Average, the dac is clean but the amp is meh. If you don't have high impedance/low sensitivity headphone then this device should be good enough.

It's ok
Impedance alone doesn't tell much about headphone drivability
Example: my ve-monk has 64Ω and my hifiman he-1000 has 34Ω impedance. So the hifiman should be easier to drive right?
Noope, headphone sensitivity play a huge role on drivability.
Going back to that example but with added sensitivity:
VE Monk 64Ω, 112db/mw (123.94db/v)
Hifiman HE-1000 34Ω,86db/mw (100.69db/v)
For the sake of simplicity, I assume the amp outputing 1 Vrms
The resulting peak spl for VE monk is 124db and the hifiman 100,7db. So the hifiman is way harder to drive (You want at least 110db peak spl)
Now if you want to calculate this by yourself you need to know the amp Vrms rating which can be quite hard to find for mobile device and the impedance + sensitivity on the headphone
milliwatts @ 1 Vrms = 1000/Impedance
db/v @ 1Vrms = db/mw + 10log(milliwatts)
Peak SPL = db/v + 20log(vrms)
Let's use the ve monk as an example with 2vrms amp.
milliwatts @ 1 Vrms = 1000/Impedance = 15.625mw
db/v @ 1Vrms = 112db/mw + 10log(15.625mw) ≈ 124db
Peak SPL = 124 + 20log(2) ≈ 130db
Hope this helps.
EDIT: TLDR: Most iem/earbud are fine for phone as they have low impedance or a bit higher impedance with high sensitivity, for headphone, avoid >150Ohms or <90db sensitivity)

Anyone using external amplifier throught Headphone Out?

as per title..anyone? mean to say PORTABLE.
I've stopped using gs2 to listen to music long time as the volume is too low and also finding harder to drive my headphones to full. Just only yesterday, my iriver broke and in the market for new player. Thinking whether should be better off with just getting Fiio E6.
yes, we do lack line out through usb (very hopeful that it'll be put on ICS) and the only way to connect is through headphone out which is already amplified.
impressions pls. Thanks.

volume is too low???? either your ears or s2 is done!!!!
think it's both. But yes normally I listen to a high level of volume and gs2 is the one of the lowest sounding device (ie through headphone out) i've ever owned. Not made for each other and made worst by owning couple of higher impedance headphones.
i have been using a FiiO E5 from when i had a n900, i think the volume is too low on the s2 aswell, i think you can get them for less than 20quid now, deffo worth it imo
thanks for that. I'm almost set my heart to buy one of these for later to be paired with sansa clip+ or similar. Probably will be cheaper and better than cowon's or sony x's. It's just curious what will be the effect on sound which is already amplified as HO in gs2.
Try Voodoo Louder from the Market for a 6dB increase, or the app in my sig for more than that. I use Brainwavz M3's with this app & find I only need to have volume at around 30% even in noisy environments (public transport, walking around town).
I've not found the S2 volume to be too bad, but I've used both one of the small "pop up" speakers, as well as a full blown amp, and a car headphone in socket - all absolutely fine.
you've tried Equalizer?, is in the market, is very good. regarding your original question, i use mine with logitech LB21, and it's sounds amazing.
Regards.
with Poweramp I think the sound is louder than the music original application, you can find it on the market
yes i use the E6 - it works fine and the quality is good.
Do not use any of the EQ's etc as suggested here to get it louder. The samsung internal amp can only go so loud without distorting - all u are doing with software boosts is dynamically effecting the music you are listening to. Somewhat like the radio does. It makes all of the instruments in the track as loud as each other by compressing the loudest sounds and lifting the volume of the lower ones. If you really want to get a louder performance from your phone use different headphones - that run on less ohms or use an external portable amp like any of Eii's series.
that's a very good explanation. I've also tried with low impedance headphones but still lacks the "punch". My bad as in OP I used the wrong word "loud" instead of "punch".
so what's the effect of E6 on already amplified Headphone out? just to amplify few dbs on all spectrums??
Rockbox on [email protected] and [email protected] with Voodoo [email protected] did improve the overall sound. Also maybe in that time, my ears started to adjust with the sound coming off GS2. Found similar thread here where ppl's had good experience with amplifer. Ordered Fiio E11 and will post impressions arrive.

S3 headset output low volume?

Like to check with all here, are S3 headset audio output volume consider to be on the low side?
The reason I ask this was, 2 days ago just got my car AUX line in cable replaced the L/R RCA adapter casing cracking and hollow sound immediately or after sometime of playback. The AUX cable are plugged into headset output of a Sony MW600 stereo bluetooth that connected to my S3, iPad2/new iPad.
During the diagnost by the car mechanic, he uses AUX cable directly plugged to an iPhone4, the volume come from it was much higher compare to plugged with S3 headset jack. Both iPhone4 & S3 was at max volume but can say it's around 6~10dB different or 250% volume gain with iPhone4. Never did I reliaze this different as most of the time I was using my stereo bluetooth to feed my car stereo AUX line.
Next thing I'd tried, out of convenience for MP3 playback through my car stereo I've decided to purchase a cheap China made Nano5 MP3/4 player (with camera), the one look like the long & slim old iPod Nano with small screen. Playing it through my TDK BA200 iem the SQ was mediocre and with much lesser bass than S3 or iPad3. But to my suprise, when connecting it to my car stereo, the max sound volume was even higher than eiher S3 and iPad3., not to mentioned the bass are also more punchy than the other 2.
With 2 different results,
1. S3 audio playback through TDK BA200 iem, SQ and bass are super, loud and fuller, but through my car AUX line are otherwisely low bass & volume.
2. MIC MP3 playbakc through TDK BA iem, SQ are mediocre, lower bass & volume, but through my car AUX line SQ are good, loud and good bass.
So now I am confused. Should I considered S3 headset output consider low volume? Or it was because of compatibility or impedance issues? Hope anyone good in audio experiences can explain/advice me on the S3 different audio output behaviour. Many thanks!
Btw, my car was Renault Laguna III 2.0A Turbo with original head unit and 8 Pioneer components speakers.

JJEgan,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, with normal iem Galaxy S3 headset output considered loud.
My problem was when S3 plugged into my car stereo AUX line in it was otherwisely low volume and light bass.
This is comparing S3 with made in China MP3 player, iPhone4 and the built in CD Player.
I'm still puzzling why was S3 behaved that way.
JJEgan,
Alright, by listening to your advice I've found this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722136
Thank you very much!
It really helps to solved all the hassles.
Now I no longer hunger for alternate cheap iPhone4 or iPod to use with my car stereo AUX line in.

Hi, there's a program on play called 'mixget' which can increased the headphone out gain it doesn't need a rooted phone I used it on the s1 and it seems to work on the s3 under the current jellybean. I love headphones.
having the same issue as i described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105091
i found, without changing kernel or flashing a mod, yu can install AC!D Audio Engine from its official site, it has many audio pluging and conf like Dr.Dre Beats and it should power up/clear/bass boost your audio.
Problem
Now, I've got this very weird problem. When I plug the headphones and play a Midi using the default player (only when using the default player), the volume is low even on 15. BUT this doesn't happen when it plays any other filetype (mp3, etc...) . Also, Midis play louder (as they should) when I open them using another file explorer (ex. Es file explorer) with the default player. Does anybody know how to solve that issue? I can't find anything that can help on the net.
Awesome! Thank you!
Im getting my head round it now.
Would this be a good one to start on my i9300, as this is the main reason im looking into it.

P760 - Jack Impedance.

Hello.
I wanna to ask you for something - stock earphones from L9 has got 18 OHm impedance, but if I plug in earphones with 16 OHm impedance will broke my phone/DAC/jack or something other?
I wanna to buy Panasonic HJE120. Will be ok, or not?
Thanks for reply!
It's alright
I hate that not enough people use RMAA or just test these things (unless they're high-end devices). My NuForce NE-700Ms have 16ohms impedance, and they sound fabulous. The source impedance for the L9 has not yet been tested, but they at least seem to be able to drive my IEMs with little/no fuss.
On that note, I'll probably switch to an Optimus G. Source impedance of 1.89ohms places it just above the iPhone 4S (first [tested] smartphone to do that, as far as I know), and overall audio output is impressively low on distortion.
So, I haven't got any problem with 16OHm earphones, yeah?

i use this ones, hope that helps. stock jb rooted...,poweramp profile for headset, tasker turns headphone to max vol because controller at the cable.
beautifuel musik, heasdset!!! in ear, tel extrem good, test in wind and little storm...
If the music stutters in Poweramp when the mobile is in lock state, increase audio buffer one notch. Headset button controller app is also fine for volume setting, however, button long press is reserved by JB in contrary to ICS.
On my various Nokia phones, the volume limiter annihilated any volume differences between 16 and 32 ohm headsets to keep the phone and mainly you healthy. ****ing EU law.

USB-C and AKG K7xx

Hey guys! I'm looking to buy a pair of AKG K7XX and I'm wondering if the phone could drive them. I know it's best with an Amp, buy would the usb-c be able to provide enough power? The headphone's impedance is 62 Ohms
I highly recommend a good amp/dac with 7xx.. Max 2 might be able to drive 7xx in highest volume but not with full potential.. The highest impedance cans I have atm is the 612pro, and Max 2 don't have enough power to drive them..

Thanks for the response! I know they should be driven with an amp/dac but if they still sound at least decent, thanks quite ok . And i saw that your headphones are double the impedance, I was hoping the USB-C could provide decent power

I even have to use my yamaha mt220 at the highest volume with max 2 which is also kinda very low impedance around 37ohms.
But usually those marketed impedance values often makes no sense in real life.. As an example, 612pro is harder to drive than sennheiser 6xx series and beyerdynamic dt150, dt770/990/880(250ohm versions)
I also auditioned 7xx few years ago and it is far more drivable than 612 or 6xx series.. May be it it might needs around same power as q701.. Could be very close.. As as predicted earlier I still think Max 2 might be able to drive 7xx in highest volume, may be not in full potential.
Or you can simply get a good portable amp/dac like fiio E17K and use it with usb otg with max 2

Higher volume then 75?

Is there a way to increase the output i feel that 75 is ok but sometimes i would like to listen louder. I fell that my HTC 10 was louder.

I just had impression that with this QuadDac it should blow my ears out.
?!? I don't think I've had mine over 35.... and I've lost some of my hearing.

QuadDAC is not about loudness, it's about quality and fidelity of sound. It won't blow your eardrums with MP3s
It's not 75. Android has 16 grades of sound volume in stock, it's 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 .... 15, 16.
16 being loudest. If every 15 is divided in 5 it's give us 75= 15*5
So that's why V20 has only 75 grades, it's not that there's some magic extra 25 to 100, for they don't exist in Android. But you may get like 34% of loudness or 68% which you can't have in another Android phones, for they have 5% steps only

What app you use to listen to music? Is your phone H930?
Should you be listening to music at this level? I've only ever gone up to 40 and my earphones aren't even high impedance. Listening at 75 for any extended amount of time doesn't seem safe?
Thats the thing it's not that loud it's ok but not something that my ears are bleeding. I have HTC 10 with and that one i think i used to use for about 70% of it's volume, but with LG i feel i need more. It's ok now, but i was expecting more.
Could this be because mine is EU variant? I remember there where some discussion on Iphone that EU caps the output.

Possibly. If it's an EU rule to limit volume then they would have had to do that.

Good explanation. But it's entirely possible 75 is the highest value, that LG decided to have a 75-step progression. (maybe that's what you were saying, I'm not sure.) Yes, stock Android is 16 grades, but in my custom ROM, I can have 100 steps if I want -- or 30 steps -- or 15. The highest number is still the highest number and equals the same value.
10 dollar bills = $10
1000 pennies = $10
Having 1000 of something is not more valuable (or louder) than 10 of something else. It depends on the scale.
It's like in comedy mockumentory "This is Spinal Tap", where Nigel says something like "These speakers go to 11. The others go to 10." 11 wasn't some magic number -- the "11" speakers were just as loud as the speakers that went to "10". (Which is why it was funny -- he was so stupid he thought speakers with an "11" were "louder" than speakers that only went to "10".) But because it's a higher number, the placebo effect was there. You would have to have an audio meter to see which speakers were had more amped volume.
as with all android phones... the only answer always goes back to Viper4Android. This is a guaranty fix. however we will then have to discuss root vs non-root as it surely requires it. 1 of my 2 deal killers when considering the VZ v30 but I was able to live with the stock volume from the V30. (although my search for a high impedance earbud continues). Incidentally, there are earbuds that are louder than others but louder doesn't mean better.

If louder is what you are after you need to use a pair of HPs that trigger the high impedience mode. Unfortunately low impedience HPs don't have as much loudness in comparison. I think that they are trying to prevent blowing out low impedience HPs sort of like an auto gain. Pretty cool feature i think but if your heart is in low impedience HPs you may not be happy.
I have a pair of Aeons and they sound quiet and anemic. My Sony Z7s sound 10x better punchier and louder.

Then he will have another player that boosts audio. He already has VLC that does that.
I think he wants to know why VLC is louder or he wants stock LG player to also do that.

I honestly advise buying soundmagic e50c or e80c , both are studio style headphones with reference style signature ie they sound like the music was intended to be heard . They are also high Impedance and the lgv30 absolutely loves them , seriously, buy them from amazon and if you are not impressed you can send them back but I almost guarantee That you won’t send them back , I didn’t lol
Seriously for 50 pounds , you will be amazed , I’ve had loads of headphones , earbuds etc and loads of audio sources from hifis to dacs and different phones etc but I am loving the sound of these earphones with the lgv30
