TA backup and Android 7.1.1 - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there possible to make a backup of DRM keys (TA backup) if I have the latest update (7.1.1) ?
Or can I do a downgrade using XperiFirm without losing DRM keys?
Thanks for answer in advance.

I had to downgrade, using Xperifirm. Then used the ivyroot.
P.S. : Downgrading was particularly useful for me because i changed also the customization (witch on Vodafone the firmware is heavily bloated) and being the stock version of the firmware i just used OTA update to get back to the latest version.

And did you lose DRM keys after downgrading using Xperifirm?
Or that process is safe for TA partition?

No, you do not lose the DRM keys. Actualy it is imposible to erase the TA partition without unlocking the bootloader. Xperifirm provides oficial firmwares that the stock (bootloader locked) kernel will allow to flash and boot.

4.1.b.0.587 update on ROOTED ICS ?

HI to all,
Sorry I am a noob here.
I have rooted my live with walkman ICS 4.0 by downgrading then rooting then upgrading it as seen on one of the popular XDA forums.
Currently my version is 4.1.b.0.431 and now I have got the update notification on my phone for version 4.1.b.0.587.
If I do this update then will I lose my root(superuser rights) or not?
Yes, at least if you are updating with SEUS.
Root access is easily regained, e.g. if you have unlocked your bootloader and follow the instructions which comes along with the usage of recoveryARC.img by Team FreeXperia.
SEUS?
ok thanks for ur support. But I have few more questions..
My bootloader is not unlocked and The notification comes in the handset itself
in the application "Update center" and this is according to me OTA update.
Is this same what you call SEUS ??
So if I update not via "sony pc companion" but via this update centre through phone itself then also I lose the superuser rights??
You will have to re-root your phone after update.
It can be done easily following this tutorial: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119
It doesn't have any major changes but fixes some annoying lag on the phone dialer.
It also doesn't have flash player anymore so make sure you backup flash player and install it manually after.
hey thanks for helping me with this.
I already did the same procedure as shown but instead of flashing with 0.587 version I used 0.431.
Now my fone update centre shows 0.587 version available and it can be updated OTA(15.7mb).So my main question is if i now use this update centre to update my version instead of flashtool, will i lose my root access?
Yes, unfortunately. However, regain root access by the many tutorials seen on this board. If not, I am sure there are already people out there who has uploaded pre-rooted .587 images.
In the long run, if you are thinking of digging deeper into modding/hacking/development/whatever, I would advice you to unlock your bootloader if this is not already done. This will also be helpful if you want to make an nandroid backup of all your current content.
There is an official Sony (Ericsson) procedure at http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com, but I recommend you to use the s1tool + testpoint procedure if you want to keep the DRM keys intact. The testpoint differs from the Xperia 2011 models, so you have to search for your specific model. As far as I know, the Arc S (LT18) is excluded to this method.

In not 100% sure what version you are now on but this link is awesome: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
All you have to do is flash with a rootable kernel, root and then flash back to the latest 0.587 kernel and you are rooted to the latest.
There is no need to downgrade the entire software just flash to a rootable kernel.
I hope this makes sense? But follow that link, it worked well for me.
hey thanx dude for all your support !!!!
Now the things are clear !!!
thanks once again !!!!:good:

CMIIW, but we can't flash new kernel on a locked bootloader, can't we?
I tried this method on my 431 ICS and it didn't work. Same as "tany" did, I had to downgrade to GB first to gain root access.
But unfortunately, I just lost my root access after updating to 587 with SEUS.

Now what i think is that we have to follow same steps for rooting (downgrading rooting and then upgrading)
but instead of flashing with 0.431 flash with .587 rom ftf file. this is the only way for a phone with locked bootloader :silly:

Yep, it is the only way. I just regain my root access on 587 ICS by the same method.
And it's safe

I must be honest, I'm not exactly sure what flashing the kernal did and then re-flashing but it allowed me to root my phone.
My phone has a locked boot loader.

Restoring TA partition

Hi all,
I'm quite new to Sony phones so not really sure about this. I would like to ask, can I flash a TA partition that I have backed up on a 4.4.2 firmware on a 4.4.4 firmware? Will my phone brick?
Thanks in advance.

You can restore TA partition on any version so long as your running a stock kernel
(stock based does not count)
You can use flashtool to flash a FTF to get a stock kernel back

[Q] new firmware disable my root?

hey there!!
so i have the SGP521, and i understood that if i want to root it i need to flash older version of the firmware, so as it. - i did it! i installed the 17.1.A.2.69 firmware, and i rooted it sucseccfuly! but now i want to update it's firmware to the latest, and i don't know if it possible, that i will flash a new firmware and keep my device ROOTED. (i'm using Flashtool).
is there a way to only "update" the firmware without wiping the root (and maybe without wiping the user data too..)
thanks!
Tal.
Someone Help?

oh this is for the sgp511 version!!

Having read these three threads, I don't know and it seems the 511 trick works for the 512. Don't know if it will do the 521.
I'd like to know of the lollipop update coming will be rootable or kill root.

I think I will not take the chance and maybe lose my 4g LTE contectivity by installing other version firmware..
But i will wait for the lollipop update too (hope it will not kill the battery, like it does on almost every phone it's installed on)
but thanks very much for the help!!

You can't run a custom kernal with a locked bootloader it must be stock. If you want to relock your bootloader and restore drm keys you need to flash stock kernal. If you want to stay on custom kernal and restore drm functions, have a look in the cross development section for the drm restore mod.
