Hi.
Just incinerated my previous phone. (literally battery fire...!)
So I've narrowed it down to either the Realme 7 Pro or
the XIaomi redmi note 9 pro
anyone here have any thoughts, experiences, etc?
specs are close, dont really care about the minute photo differences, or the pixel definitions, etc.
more interested in speed, ease of use, ease of rooting, etc.
thank in advance
I owned redmi note 9 pro (max)
Very very speedy
Easy to root, all you need is MAGISK without TWRP. (unless you pretty much a ROM fever so you need TWRP).
Does not require re-install all apps again on every firmware upgrade then root again
Little bit heavy
Glass back but boring color nowadays
occasionally restart or hanged which is unfortunate even with latest firmware
I'm not satisfy my unit have some flaws sleeping all the time without responding to TASKER tasks
However, I prefer give realme 7 pro a try as stereo speaker, little smaller battery than redmi 9 pro but OLED Screen, fast charge although I will avoid to use that but a regular charger to protect my battery Life., Fast charge are bad to battery
Light weight, only plastic back but sexy colors
But, I will only purchase as soon as I can see a true root method to that. I've seen some rooting realme 6 looks-a-like pretty simple steps starting from Unlock bootloader

Anyone else having problems with automatic brightness changes?
Every evening when it gets dark the brightness level goes to the lowest level, which is much to dark to read anything. Every evening I have to adjust the ''automatic'' level to halfway the level-slider, multiple times.
Do you have night mode enabled ?
I have this feature enabled from 9pm to 7am and indeed the auto brightness goes lower than normal value during this time slot .

No eye comfort modus
No Adaptive sleep modus
Only 'dark modus' enabled day and night
The same is happening to me. The brightness of the screen in darker lights is too low. Every time I move the slider to upper brightness but next time I open the screen is lower again.

I tried to wipe the system settings but the problem persists. I hope they can fix this in an update

I might state the obvious, but the sensor is a bit high up on the device and it might be covered by your phone case, u sure it's not just a goof with an off brand cover?
The sensor is not covered. I use an original OnePlus cover.
Strange thing ... Everybody or at least majority of Oneplus Nord 2 owners had complained about automatic brightness . It's true in my case as well but now problem is solved with a 3-d party apk . Velis Auto Brightness from G.Play . Calibrating autobrightness is very accurate but the app remain active in background all the time and I didn't know how this affect battery drain . I read all OnePlus latest phones have this annoying bug and it's pitty none of latest updates solved it , worst here on XDA or OnePlus forum no one offer any solutions to calibrate automatic brightness .
Some smart guys said there is not "automatic brightness" but "adaptive brightness" so we had to learn phone AI how to adjust brightness a few days and then restart the phone . This are childish thoughts of those which are nothing to do else .
So , what do you think about this ? There are solutions to calibrate or fix this issue ?
I noticed that when the phone is on below 15% or lower and the battery saver is on ( for me it's 10%) the phone brightness goes to automatic mode and it becomes even less bright. I think it has to be a certain feature which is connected to battery saving IMO.
I'm using Velis for 3 months as well. This solves the problem. But OnePlus definitely should solve this.
Even latest update v11.3 EU, doesn't solve it. I even did a factory reset. 3 hours work to reset everything back as is was, for nothing...
Look at a possible solution (for me didn't work) :

FYI: I did this a few minutes ago. I think that may be it. Before I did this, the screen brightness did not work at all. I could slide that slider up and down and nothing ever changed on screen brightness, auto or manual. Now it works! On auto and manual!
Hopefully this is the "fix"! But disabling a feature is NOT a fix, it's a workaround. Luckily I don't need that feature

So far the screen brightness has not faded into darkness. Phone is working fine now. This is a workaround that works.

Since A.14 OTA , Adaptive Brightness is better but not entirely satisfying . It seems they solve bugs by little steps ... which is quite annoying !

Minimum level (especially in low light) is a little bit higher , sensitivity is more accurate and transition between levels is also a little bit faster . I'm pretty sure there are some improvements , that's a fact not a feeling .

Let's hope it improves a lot more. My previous devices, Moto g, Moto G5 plus, never had such problem, even on any custom ROM...

Oh , yes I still have Motorola One Vision and automatic brightness is flawless ...
I got my Pixel 6 today and was actually planning to switch from my iPhone 13 Pro. However, the auto brightness seems to bei very very sensitive to me, even If I stay in the same position with same light conditions it changes very hard. Die you think this ist a Bug or is my device defective? Any expierences?
It is using what Google call Adaptive brightness, when this was introduced it was hopeless on my Pixel 2 XL, but as they said, if you keep adjusting the brightness it does tend to learn over time, and after severa days on the Pixel 2 it always seemed spot on, and I've not touched the brightness slider in years!
Now on the Pixel 6 (I'm using the Pro) I find the brightness is all over the place again and I keep needing to adjust it all the time. In a dark room it keeps pushing the brightness back up, so I'm hoping the same is true and after a few days it will learn how I like it.
So give it couple of days is my advice, just keep adjusting it.
I'm more worried about the SOT. I haven't heard anything on Pixel 6, but for Pixel 6 Pro, the SOT can range from 3-4 to 6-7 hours. The spread is just too wide to accept!
Any findings elsewhere? Thanks.
Toms guide has some numbers, with the Google Pixel 6 Pro at 7 hours 53 minutes in their testing, see the chart and tests at https://www.tomsguide.com/uk/news/google-pixel-6-battery-life-tested-we-have-bad-news
I'm not sure how their test script works exactly. If it just loads as many pages as possible a faster phone may churn through more content and so uses more data and power. I.e. is it a real world test or torture test they used?
The phones over 4G appeared to get a couple of hours extra, pointing towards 5G with the Samsung modem perhaps not so well optimised or just not as good at power management as modems from Qualcomm. It could just be a local issue when they tested those devices and 5G signal was not so good or hit a more distant cell. Who knows.

you are exactly right. The only time I have to ajust the brightness is when i get a new pixel for the first few days or after a factory reset. So I belive this is normal behavior. After you have made the ajustments to the way you like it it will learn and do it for you.
I hope this learning this is true because it's driving me mad at the moment. I can be sitting there on the phone and the slightest movement brightens or dims the screen. I'm using the slider but so far not noticed.
Same issue and they are correct with learning. Just heads up, I believe the sensor is in the camera strip so when you use the phone landscape playing games, be sure not to cover it. They should have an option in game mode later to disable adaptive when playing games.
I think I'm going manual.
Hello i have the phone for some time and i am a little bit worried about the sot i get. I mean i have been reading reviews about 7-8 hours of screen time but so far i have not been able to achieve it.
So far the best score i managed was almost 5 hours of screen.
This was achieved with the following settings
Brightness at 100% (extra brightness turned off)
wifi on
4g off
location on for around 3 hours
bluetooth off
Dark mode on
adaptive motion smoothness
adaptive brightness off
I use 2 sims and i have the exynos cpu.
plus it was put on airplane mode for 7 hours during my sleep.
I wish i had a couple of hours more SOT it would make me love the phone a bit more....

With debloat, I can do 6-7h SOT with no gaming.
I do 5h SOT when gaming 5h.
My opinion 5hrs is pretty good. Everyone uses device different so it will vary. But remember, some not all, but will put device on long playing movies just to brag about screen on time. My motto is if the dang thing needs charged, charge it..lol. And some turn off so many things it makes you wonder why they even got a flagship. I have seen post with 10 or 11 hr screen times. In the real world most dont have time to be on their device for that long . Just enjoy it my friend
So I'm thinking of buying the P6, there's a good deal on amazon for 529€.
So ppl who have used it what do u like about it and what not???
The only real annoyances I've encountered are the fingerprint reader occasionally not reading my fingerprint and the connectivity toggle in Android 12. The latter I fixed by rooting and installing Better Internet Tiles from the Play Store. The former? I deal with it for now, but I do think after taking the July update I'll set my fingerprints up again.
I have some issue with multitasking. Sometimes I can't do a gesture to active multitasking. It's happening twice per day. June update din't solved it. It's really anoying.

Most noticable annoyances for me are the slow fingerprint reader, the camera app taking like 5 seconds to switch between photo and video (idk if this happens to other p6s but it made me miss a lot of great shots) and no face unlock.
What's good
- pure Android without bloatware
- very good photos
- Material Me (it is a gimmick but I like it)
- flat screen with deep blacks
What's bad
- charging slow compared to my previous phone (Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra)? Not on par with competition on this criteria
What's neither good neither bad
- fingerprint reader : I don't have any problem, it works as my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra but not as fast as my Galaxy tab S8
- screen brighrness, I have no problem reading it even in sunlight, but I have seen brighter (my Galaxy tab S8)
- battery life. I have 10h SOT, 34h overall. More than enough for one day, but not enough for 2 days
Overall, I like this phone a lot, more than my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra even if it is far cheaper.

Slow charging is probably due to optimized charging being checked. It will slowly charge overnight and will be at 100% just before your alarm is set to go off. At least that's how it's supposed to work. Didn't work on my wife's pixel 6 so we disabled it.

With my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra, I could charge from 0 to 80% in less than 30mn and to 100% in less than 45mn. I am sure there are no Pixel 6 settings that could allow that.
Slow charging? It does 30W USB PD/21W Wireless.. that's roughly 66% in 1h. Sure the Mi Ultra 11 charges at 65W+ but its also a Li-Po battery, while P6 uses the more common Li-Ion. Li-Po batteries have a shorter life-cycle and charging at 65W+ will degrade its life-span even faster.
I plug my phone in for 30mins and I get 30-40% battery which is a more than enough charge to get me through whatever for the day. Though only time I actually ever have needed to plug my phone in to get me through the day is when I play games on it for a while.
The fingerprint reader is slow but it has dramatically improved since release. It was annoyingly slow at launch, now I don't even notice the lag.
Iv'e had some wierd restarts at the start an update fixed the issue and now everything is good
