Ok so, I had the "bright" (stupid) idea to get an unused Z5 Compact online to replace mine which I have dropped about 24 times.
Unfortunately not long after I got the newer one, I dropped it and the screen cracked. Looooong story short, the screen is okay now, but whether it was in the fall or in the stupid shop, it doesn't charge properly.
However, rather than just getting a red blinking light, what I see is: red solid light, then the "Sony XPERIA" screen with white background will appear, but the power light will turn off, and then it will revert to the battery charge screen where the battery is at 0%.
I am nooooot technical so if the probably solution is replacing the charge port I feel like maybe I should just get another phone. Is that the right step now or am I jumping the gun?

Hello,
I was at a concert last night, and took a few pics and videos on my phone..when I put it back in my pocket it became overheated - then the screen went blank. I could feel the heat almost burn my leg. From this the LED flashed a full variety of colours (greens, purple & white) and when pressing the power button nothing happened. It eventually started flashing red as I drove home but refused to come back on. I put it on charge when I got home where it was a very faint white colour LED. I did the manual reset (power&volume down)..nothing.
It's been on charge all night and it was just dead - no light - nothing this morning. I've charged it this morning at work, and there's a white light, sometimes faint, but trying to start it is impossible.
I'm now left phoneless as my spare phone doesn't take the Micro Sim card. I have insurance, but they want a £50 excess - I've contacted Motorola as this seems to be an internal electrical fault, but I was wondering if anyone has any hints or tips as it could be weeks before I have a phone again.
Anyone experienced / managed to sort this themselves?
Laura
Hi Laura, welcome! (I hope BRFC doesn't stand for Bristol Rovers!?)
Are you able to actually turn the phone on at all, ie get any screen to show?
I would imagine that the phone is newish, it's still covered under warranty so it may be worth contacting motorola directly to see if they are able to do anything.
When you plug it into your pc/mac and try and turn it on, does the pc pick up the phone at all?
Yesterday, my phone fell (not very hard, onto a carpeted floor). I picked it up and put it in my pocket without looking.. When I went to check my phone, it was off. I tried to turn it on, but it would only go to the HTC screen, then the screen would go black but the home icons would be lit up. I took the battery out and let it sit for a couple of hours. Tried to put it back in and the phone wouldn't turn on at all. I put it on the charger, it turned red for about 5 seconds, turned off, then repeats. If I try to turn the phone on, the LED light blinks a very dim red for 2 seconds then stops. I can't even hold the volume button and the power button, it just blinks the dim red. As far as I know, it is not rooted. I got it second hand about a year ago after my phone got stolen. I have never had any problems with it other than the camera.. It just stopped working eventually. Help?
Anytime you drop the phone, even if it wasn't a hard hit, it can damage something on the main board, which could be your problem. However, since you say the led is very dim red, that is a sign that the battery itself is damaged and won't charge. I would try to get a cheap battery off ebay to see if that's the problem.
You probably damaged some micro vital componants on your motherboard which is preventing your device to function in a normal way.
must be motherboard, or some other chip
I have a HTC Evo 3D, which has a 1730 MAh Lithium-ion battery. I got it on 12/26/11. I've never had a problem like this persist for more than a minute. I was on Twitter doing regular stuff when my screen shuts off. I went to see if it was a screen timeout but it shut the phone down (which was weird because it had a regular battery charge). So the phone turned on and off again (because I thought it was a screen timeout). So I didn't really care at the time so I went on my computer. I just went to turn it on, forgetting the battery was drained, and it started and turned off again. So I went to charge it 5 minutes later, and the red light didn't come up. I pressed the power button and it didn't turn on. I tried with the volume button down, I took the battery out and put it back in, but nothing seemed to work. This sucks. It's not rooted. I will say it's usual problems, in the case someone out there can connect the problems.
It overheats constantly: in my pocket and it gets stuck between my mattress and a pillow or blanket sometimes at night; and it flashes red and green lights and it feels like the core is hot enough to melt.
Each day the battery life gets worse.
Sometimes it will shut off like it did with 40% battery; but I usually plug it in and it will return to 40% when I turn it on.
Sometimes it doesn't charge at first but I'll try it later and it works (tried it this time).
Sometimes the phone won't charge while it's on because the phone gets a pop-up saying it's using too much power versus what it's taking in.
It can be utterly retarded. It seems like it doesn't even know how much the battery is charged.
I've gotten pop-ups online saying my "Android's battery is drained" "Android system is corrupted" "Android battery/system is damaged". WT*?
I love my phone: it has problems but I love the 3D, the photos it takes, and how fast it is. I hate the screen because it doesn't work in spots. And sometimes if you press in certain spots red or blue will show up instead of the screen's current picture. Overall; a replacement would make the phone astounding again. But, it's been two years, and that means it has no warranty and I have my upgrade (the phone was $300, [got it on a sale for $100]), so it would probably knock off quite a bit of cost on my next phone. It would be a WASTE to get the same phone. I refuse to get iPhone. I want Android. I like my Android. I don't want new Android. I don't want to waste money. Situation complex: advice needed.
sorry to say but it is indeed a hardware problem.. you need to physically repair it!

Is it my battery? Or is something else?
Hi everyone, this is my first post on XDA.
My S3 had a broken screen, so I wanted to get it fixed. The repair shops quoted quite a hefty price for the repair (even though it was just the glass that was, not the digitiser) so I bought a kit to repair it myself. The repair went smoothly, and I didn't need to do anything to the actual LCD display. However, when the repair was finished, the phone would not turn on. I assumed it had a flat battery (it was on 5% when I started the repair) so I plugged the phone in. The phone's LED lit in an orange colour, that i've never seen before. So I left it for 1 hour, then I came back. The phone still had an orange LED lit. The phone would not turn on. I kept the plug in and took the battery out and the phone vibrated. Then I plugged the phone back in and a red LED lit. I've left it like that for 2 hours, and the phone would still not turn on. I plugged it back into my PC and the LED lit green. The phone would still not turn on but the PC showed "GT-I9300" as a Media Device in the File Explorer but it didn't have anything on it. The phone now displays a green LED whenever I plug it into any normal charger. When I unplug it, the power button makes the phone vibrate when I press it.
Please could you help me? I need a phone.

Red led is charging, green led is charged. Orange led.. Never known it to use orange so i assume its a fault.
It does seem like the phone is booted up and running yet the screen shows nothing. Possibly halted in post?. Have you double checked your work for loose connections etc?. What are the chances of the replacement being faulty?.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
I didn't actually remove or do anything to the LCD, so it can't be lose connections etc.
I left it overnight on the green LED and it still isn't turning on, plugged in or not.
I'm going to call Samsung to see if they can fix anything or if I need a replacement phone (its about 3 years old so not under warranty though)
It isn't turned on, I tried calling the phone and it went straight to voicemail. And I get no startup sounds, nothing.

Samsung will charge if it's out of warranty.
So what exactly did you do if you didnt disassemble it?
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
Going to send it off to Samsung. I literally removed the screen's glass and placed a new one on.
Can you do that without damaging the digitiser? I would have thought they'd be "married" in some way or other ie glue.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
About two years ago I ran in the rain, and the digitizer malfunctioned(and possibly other things?) It still worked, but it would cut off randomly unless I attached a battery or charger via usb.
Fast forward to today, the telescreen I bought as a replacement broke, so I've been using my old one until I get a new one.
But, now it won't turn on at all. The battery seems like it exploded slightly, as it has bulged. I have removed it.
The same symptoms apply, whether the battery is attached or not. The LED shines red when attached to a charger. If a press and hold the power button for 5 seconds or so, the vibrators buzzes like it normally does when it powers on, but while the screen turns on it remains black, when the Sony and Android logo should have appeared.
It's a Sony Xperia C5.
