Try turning it on from the boot loader and see if that helps.
Do a soft reset while holding down the power button, once in boot loader mode press the Calender button.
BTW confirming you do have service, right!

Ive tried an irish o2 card and it works great, ive tried doing the soft reset and pressed the calendar button, but what do i do then as it comes up with a gsm list and when you select one it does it and comes back to the list. Hope im not sounding too thick.

It sounds like your Radio band got changed some how, so see it you can change it back from the boatloader.
To enter the bootloader hold the power button and soft reset. Once you're in bootloader mode press the Calendar button. HTH

I cannot access the phone part of my Hermes. I tried backing the radio back to 1.48 and nothing. I have recently upgraded the radio to 1.50. But like I said I tried to go back. Everything else works fine and boots fine. I tried doing the Unlock Sim and CID patch and then tried to flash the radio again and still nothing. I have an IMEI number. The funny thing is I can read the services for the phone ,"Call Barring", etc.. I get a letter up at the top for the band which is a "G" but my antenna has a exclamation mark beside it. Please help!!
It worked OK with 1.50?
Odd. Did the flash back to 1.48 complete successfully?
Did the SIM/CID unlock complete successfully?
If it were me, I would try reflashing the radio. Be sure you have HardSPL.
If that didn't work, I would hard reset and completely reflash the OS and Radio - but that should not be necessary.

If the flash radio ROM alone will not work, Try doing a flash for an OS+Radio ROM together, there are a number of those available in the forum (the T-Mobile 3.60 is the latest).

The following thread has saved my Hermes several times. I've bricked it more than once through trying to create my own bastard sons of other people's cooked ROMs.
What I do is I keep a copy of HERMIMG.nbh from the ORIGINAL ROM that came on my phone PERMANENTLY on my MicroSD card and fix it using this method every time I knacker the phone.

I recently got an ATT 8525 and I'm trying to use it with my T-Mobile (US) SIM. I was able to successfully unlock the SIM and CID with an util/rom I found on this site (I think the post was from Pof). And I also re-flashed the phone with the latest ROM available.
But after about 5-10mins of usage the signal dies and when I reboot it says No GSM. Looks like the Radio ROM gets corrupted. I tried just re-flashing the Radio ROM and that doesn't help either. It works for short while and again the signal dies.
And also, I'm unable to install any of the generic ROMs (Fantastic Mobiz, PVET 40005) Although I'm connected to Active Sync when I run the Step 1 (ROMUpdateUtility_NV_G3.exe), I get a ERROR [222] : DEVICE NOT RESPONDING. And when I run the step 2 directly (update_rom.bat) I get an cannot update itsutils.dll maybe in use error.
As you can tell I've been messing with phone a lot for a couple of days with no luck and my frustration level is kinda high
As of now here’s where I stand. I re-flashed the phone (Image: 3.62, Radio 1.50) and it’s on the “Tap the screen to set up your windows based mobile device” screen. I plan on leaving it on this screen until I can a good solution.
I would like to get rid of the ATT ROM and install one of those hybrid generic ROM that is not Carrier specific. Any help will be much appreciated. Share your ideas, I’m very experimental

ok ur going all over the map here.. did u hardspl first? also pvet 40005 isnt a hermes rom.. um try hardspl first THEN flash to a new rom maybe once you successfully do that then try a new 3.62 rom.. i run austinsync buts its naked..just like i like my women. ha. but if ur looking for a full blown try fun_key's rom or blinkys.. these arent carrier dependent

Okay first appologize my ignorance. What is a HardSPL? I did a search on this forum and I found Hard-SPL-V7.zip. Is this a good version to use? Also when I run the exe, All options are grayed out except for "Force Using SSPL" and "Is it Hard-SPL". What do I select.

Hardspl v7 is the latest version out there, its the one for you to use so that you're safe from future mishaps.
I also have an 8525 on T-mobile... so no worries.

Here's what I did...
1. Installed the Hard SPL version 6
2. Installed the latest ATT ROM (ver 3.62 radio: 1.54) I had to do this because the radio on the phone was corrupt (says "no GSM" on the start screen) and couldn't install just the radio rom. kept giving connection errors.
3. Installed Schap's WM6 Pro 3.57 hoping this would get ride of the ATT ROM and my intial problem (no GSM) will go away.
Everything was fine for like 15 mins, then my phone just froze. I reboot the phone and sure enough the radio ROM was gone (no gsm). ;(
Running out of ideas.
1. Could this problem be because I'm using a TMobile SIM on a ATT's radio ROM?
2. Is the radio ROM specific to the phone type and provider(ATT, TMO..)? Is there a generic WM 6 radio rom? If yes, where can I find the latest version?
3. Any bright ideas?

I was able to flash just the radio ROM - version 1.51. But again after a few hours the Radio got currupted. I also tried to follow the instruction ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems#problem5 ) to use the mtty.exe utility, but I don't get a USB prompt. I get Cmd prompt and if I still enter the password, it says invalid password. please help!!!
And how do I do the USB monitor capture? I could post more details that way. I'm using my girl friend's old razr now and it's painful!
I have used my t-mobile sim on AT&T rom's and other roms with no problem. I would try going back to a factory rom and then changing back to a cooked rom just to confirm its all a clean install. also, try downgrading your radio to a 1.47 or 1.48 (those have been proved pretty reliable across many cell providers).

Thanks Galaxys. I just installed the 1.47 radio. I have fully signal and the 'E', but I can't receive or make calls.
It almost looks like my TMO SIM is not compatible with the 8525. It always works for the first few minutes after an install and then stops working.
I'm very certain the phone is in good condition.
Should I try an older radio version.. like a 1.24 or something ?
Can I install just the tmobile radio rom?
I'm also going to install TNT 2.0 pro so I have the exact same set up as you and see if that makes a difference.

Sounds like your doing everything right, because your flashed rom, radio, and Edge network are all functional. Since only the GSM calls don't work, I would go back to Tmobile and get a a new Sim card installed (they should do this for nothing & test it while at the store).
Also, if U got this device on ebay your IMEI could be blocked. see this thread:

I was trying to istall the UK Tmo ROM you suggested and it stops always at 11%. I've had this problem with other ROMs as well (12%) but after a few tries the installatons goes past it, but real slow. Any ideas?

I don't think the IMEI is blocked. Or maybe it is, how do I find out? I don't have any of the symptons listed on the link you sent (don't hear the beeps or anything).
I originally had a T-Mobile wing. The LCD screen cracked (don't know how). And ofcourse TMo won't replace it.

I got 8525 from my company. It's almost new. Only used for a day on an AT&T SIM. This phone is free, and so I really don't have much to lose... so all out experimenting
Tried insalling from the micro card, even that stops while installing GSM. pissed!!! Why would the darn Radio not update???
this may sound stupid but if all else fails, why not...
my mda use to have signal then it would just disappear as well after 15 min or less..
turns out the sim card wasnt pressed in properly.. so i just put a piece of paper on top of the sim card to make it thicker and get the battery to press it down harder. and it solved all my problems...

See this post here for a possible reason (and technical explanation/theory) for your device stalling during radio update. The fix suggestions at the bottom of the page may help you - in particular :
Try cooling the device down a bit before flashing as the PIC chip (where your radio ROM is held) may flash more reliably/easier when cool. Don't ask why - that's from it's datasheet ;-)
The paper on the SIM card is a good idea too to rule out dodgy SIM connection - Great idea r0mmel
My hermes with latest radio rom 1.54.30 is unable to run my new network sim card ..But Hermes of my friend can run it..He has 1.16 radio rom..So is it safe for me to downgrade to 1.16 directly from 1.54.30?

1.16 should have an older version and the 108 doesn't allow to overwrite
him with an older version.

every radio which has radio bootloader 108 is safe..
read on wiki to exactly know it there you should find a table with
radios and related bootloader.
If I rememember well every 1.38 and up are all 108.

Can anybody help me get 1.16 radio rom on my herm300??i tried 1.47.30
but it keeps on searching for signals for almost an infinite time...I am very much confused as i dont know what is the problem with my hermes..
Have you checked the "Band" Setting in Start -> Settings -> Phone to make sure that is set to "Auto" "Auto"?

yes sir it is on auto ...but i dont have any 3g or wcdma in my country ..only gsm
Hrrrm... that seems kinda of strange... It may be that there is a fault in your unit - as if your GSM network uses any of the GSM bands listed on the phone, it should pick something up.
Has it worked before? Is there some kind of IMEI lock on your account?

Actually my unit easily reads a few simcards but not of my network...i dont know if my imei is blocked or what but it cant be blocked as there is nnot much technology here in pakistan and i havent stolen hermes as well....but my friend has radio 1.16 and my sim card works good on his hermes...
If your phone works fine with a sim card of a different network, then it is probably a network related issue and you might have to contact your phone company to fix it.

but if i leave it for a night my hermes is able to get the signals but when i place a call or two then the gsm part of the phone seems to be non responding ...i wanted to try out 1.16 once before i complain my operator

It's possible that your radio ROM 1.54 has damaged the radio hardware in which case changing ROM is unlikely to make any difference.

No i dont think so,had the same problem before upgrading to 1.54..just want to give 1.16 a last try..Anybody guide me how to degrade to such an old version of a radio rom

Have you followed others advice here and tried flavours from 1.38 upwards (although at the moment I wouldn't recommend trying 1.54!)...
a) Try cleaning the SIM contacts in your phone with a little alcohol and some cotton wool buds (poor contact with the sim card can cause your phone to think it has "no signal" or "No SIM" - suffered that one myself once)
b) Try your friends SIM in your phone and see if it works (as you've already said your SIM works in his phone) - if his sim works in your phone - but yours continues not to work then you may have a blocked phone or SIM and will need to speak to your provider for advice (and to either have the sim unlocked or the phone unlocked etc)
c) Try a hard reset with no sim inserted (after backing up your data) and try the SIM again.
d) Radio updates rarely (if ever) fix SIM issues - Certainly a dodgy rollback to 1.16 is unlikely to fix anything.
ok trying 1.38.00.10. but it doesnt have option for 2.10 olipro..what should i select ?it says u should chose sspl?
The contact of the simcard with phone is perfect,as i can access my sim contacts as well as sim messages and the sim menu is there as well.
NO His sim doesn't work on my phone.
The only option is to degrade to 1.16 and see if that helps.So how should i continue with my quest?
I bought my 8525 off of ebay... the OS was upgraded too Windows Mobile 6 and it had the HTC Tytn 2 theme on it.. I insert my simcard and everything works well.. then some one calls me.. and the phone freezes.. now I am extremely new to the whole Windows Mobile game.. so I googled and did a hard reset on it.. after it finished restarting.. I notice that it is not reading the sim any more.. always says NO Service.. then I clicked on Start and then Phone.. nothing happened.. so I let it sit there.. tried the phone option again after half an hr or so and this time it went to the Phone option but.. it says something around the lines of can not check the status of sim emergency calls only.. If I go to network and select find network it says Cannot register on Selected Network Choose another network or disconnect your data connection and try again.. while no data connections nor Wifi is running.. Then I go to Band and if I try to Select the GSM 850/1900 and HSDPA 850/1900 it says Warning unable to change GSM/UMTS band Please try again later.. under device Info and next to IMEI I see blank space.. and try to select it says.. Then I found this site and read and read and read.. afterwards I went to Start.. Settings.. System and then Device Info.. Under there I see the following:
Rom Version: 3.30.2.1
Rom Date: 04/17/07
Radio Version: NONE
Protocol Version: NONE
ExtROM version: 2.11.255.102
So I figured maybe the radio part of the flash has gone bad.. so I downloaded the cingular update Flash.. it started and after 11% it frooze.. and came back with the ERROR: 262 then I had to do the mtty1[1].42.exe version to restore the phone back from Boot Mode.. then I tried a few other Flashes and all stick around 11%.. Then I tried just radio and they dont even go past 0%.. Can some one please help me
PS Sim is fine.. it works great with another phone.. also tried another working sim on the TYTN same issue

Tried installing the latest rom flash from Cingulars 8525 support site and it freezes up after 11%.. just like stated in my post of this thread.. and gives an error 262

After letting the phone sit there for a few hrs.. I can now see the phone menu.. when I click on it.. it shows me the dialer and says ONLY EMERGENCY CALLS CAN BE MADE WITHOUT A PIN...
I was able to downgrade to windows mobile 5 using the guide here http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
the radio still shows as NONE and so does the protocol..
So I tried flashing just the radio and that just like always does not move past 0% and then comes back with error 262..

Boot IN OS= Yes everything works apart from the Radio Part (device info says Radio=None, Protocol=None and IMEI= (Blank)
NO GSM= No just NONE

There are some posts somewhere in the Hermes forums about radio problems like yours, have a look at all the stickies in the 4 subforums for Hermes.
thanks for the tip.. I have read quite a bit on this forum since the past few days.. Most errors are NO GSM errors.. and some NONE.. the NONE ones I have yet to see a solution for.. but I could be missing something
