Sending HD2 for repair - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my HD2 T-mobile touch screen has stop responding and I called HTC.
They told me I had two options but that they need a credit card on file.
What does this mean are they going to charge me to repair if the warranty dosen't cover it or are they gonna charge me regardless?

I never gave them anything, if they would of tried to charge me I would of gone up there and kicked off a **** storm! if its under warrenty give them nothing,

i would ask them. could be just like anything else, they want assurance. but be explicit that they do not have your okay to charge anything unless discussing it. seems weird, though. i would call back and see if you get the same answer from someone else!

[Q] T-mobile defective phone trade in help????

I was wondering if t-mobile offers some kind of service for people like me who have t-mobile phones that weren't necessarily purchased by the person bringing it in or bought and activated with them...like if I could pay some sort of extra fee for them to accept my defective "hardware locked" phone for a replacement? Lmk, thanks!
Oh and just to make sure whoever's reading this post understands my predicament; I bought a vibrant off someone from CL, rooted and flashed the robotix1.1w/oc rom, decided I didn't like it so I nandroid restored to a previous stock/root backup and while it was rebooting or doing the backup (I can't remember) the phone just hangs on the vibrant/samsung screen and won't turn off unless I pull the battery. Any help would be appreciated, thanks again!
Does recovery mode work on your phone? Vol Up+Vol Down+Power.

Nope. I can't get into downloader or recovery on it. I've tried literally every method, I've even followed yours to a T in the other couple "hardware locked" vibrant threads but to no avail.
I just noticed that when I plug my phone into a computer, both the internal memory drive and the sd card pop up as drives but both are labeled unknown and seem to be corrupted....

That's because you're not able to push the "Mount USB" button.
It doesn't hurt to ask T-Mobile to replace it. It helps if you're paying for the $6/month warranty.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Damn well I don't think I have that warranty option added on my plan...I hope they replace it.
Should I try to sell it, turn it in, or should I just wait, hold on to it and hope someone figures out some sort or fix?
Try and get it replaced before worrying about it.
I've heard plenty of stories about people getting their phones serviced by the carrier even though they were bought on eBay or whatever.

Thanks for the flame..but did you even read my entire OP? I clearly stated I bought the phone off someone from CL and the reason for my post in the first place was to find out if T-mobile would allow me to swap phones if I paid an extra servicing fee or something.
Of course I wouldn't expect to walk into the store, demand a new phone because mine doesn't work and then get one. I just don't have the extra couple hundred dollars to "buy another one and leave it alone" sorry I'm not rich like you.
If you're not gunna help me out, why don't you just NOT REPLY and leave ME alone.
tmobile exchanged a vibrant i bought off cl, i told them that the youtube app was causing the phone to soft reset everytime I accessed the app. Do not, I repeat, Do not tell tmo that you got the phone off cl. tmo sent me a brand new phone two days later. The only concern i have is the fact that your phone had a custom rom on it, if tmo determines that you installed a custom os which voids your warranty, they will charge you $400 for the replacement phone they sent you.
hope this helps

[Q] what do I have to send in for the replacement

My vibrant has recently had random shutdown/freezing problems so I decided to contact tmobile for a replacement. They agreed, but since I am prepaid I have to send in the phone first. I tried to call customer service to find out what I have to send in but the girl was confused, first saying the whole phone with the back cover and battery and then she said just the shell of the device (hardware). So, what DO I have to send it?

if you weren't pre-paid then theyd ship you one and you send it back, but since you are, they're afraid you'll jack BOTH of their phones thats like 1000 dollars almost, and they dont want you jacking that much, so thats why.
I'm pretty sure you will need just to send out the "shell". Battery and Battery door stays with you.

Yea I think your right. Usually when they send a replacement its without the battery and battery door.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
When i got my Replacement, what they sent me was JUST the front part,
You take battery out, SD Card, memory card what ever, everything out and just send it like that, with no back cover on.

Not being smart but have you actually read any of the threads about it? Easiest thing to try is this:
Take battery/sim/sd card
Plug in usb cord
Hold all three buttons
Put battery back in and as you do take your finger off JUST the power button.
That always worked for me when i could not get anything but the black screen.
2 Questions:
- Do you see anything on the screen? any logos any signs anything?
- Do the buttons light up? even if its for 1 second... do they?
If you respond no to both of those...
your hard bricked.
Which means you need to either
- try a JIG (probably wont work)
or
- New phone

It's the boot loader. The only way to get it working again is with a jtag (not a jig). The average repair shop will charge around $50, but they may not be able to fix the hardware lock still. I'm in the same boat and trying to find out how much Samsung will charge for the repair if they determine it's out of warranty for some reason (e.g. they find out there were any modifications done).
Send to tmo not samsung. Its cheaper
Edit
Actually its free besides shipping and handling

Tmo's only an option if you're a Tmo customer. Samsung also pays for the shipping if it's under warranty.

Samsung most certainly does not pay for shipping and handling.
I replaced my phone through tmobile and samsung charged me $11
for standard shipping.

Then it appears to be selective because they provided me with a prepaid UPS Returns Label to use to send them my phone.

[Q] Replacement through Sprint; will root cause issues?

Yesterday, the vibration motor on my phone stopped working, so I went to Sprint, who ordered me a replacement through the HTC warranty.
I used the HTC Unlock method, therefore, my warranty is void. Is Sprint going to check this when I come in for the exchange? Or will it just be an even swap with no questions?
Thank you!
They will just swap it. I have had them swap my phone after I unlocked it no questions asked. I even left it rooted custom rom and all. Now if it was bricked that might be a different story. They might check then but not for a motor issue.

Actually, yes. He said that since the phone came out less than a year ago, they don't open any of them there. My friend actually came with me because his 3VO has a broken speaker. They told him that he has to go to the corporate location, as that is the only place that will actually open the phone without voiding the warranty, and if they can't fix it, they have to replace it.
He told me the vibration issue can't be fixed, and they have to order a replacement model.
i just put a stock rom on my phone and took it in and im not sure if they knew or not but i got a new phone
Sprint doesn't seem to care most of the techs are rooted. If it was bricked then yes they would be looking at you funny and you might have to pay a fee or your warranty is no good.

[HELP] DNA bricked after new OTA update from HTC!

So I received the update last night and then let it update over night while I slept. I woke up and my phone was off, I tried to turn it on and it would just go to a white screen and turn off again.
The same day, I took it to the Verizon store and they "tried" all they can think of to fix the issue but no dice. Unfortunately my USB port doesn't work properly (I use wireless charging to charge it). My warranty is out, I really don't know what to do. Help me!!!
What was the status of your phone prior to the update such as whether its stock, rooted, unlocked, custom recovery, ROM, etc.
For now charge it so it will be ready to be troubleshooted.
Without the usb port working, not much we can do to help. Your phone will not charge while off unless plugged in. (Someone correct me if I am wrong, I don't think wireless charge works unless booted into a Rom).
Have you tried contacting HTC support? Even though it is out of warranty, they should be able to help troubleshoot.

Sorry for the late reply. The phone was completely stock. I've never done any software changes to it. I contacted HTC and they said that I have to pay for shipping and repairs, but if the phone is non repairable, I still have to pay for getting it shipped back to me as is. Dafuq!?

Have you tried calling a local repair shop like youbreakifix? If HTC says it needs Tue USB port repaired, there may not he a way around fixing it. I know my local shop was a fraction of the cost for HTC to repair my DNA (it had a bad power button and shattered screen) HTC quoted $300 because it was also s-off. The local shop was only $50 for the labor and then I provide the parts.
I was hoping HTC might know of a way to use the wireless charge with the phone being dead, but looks like you need a new USB port to manually charge your dead phone.

If you talk to a jtag service, they can force power to the board and run the ruu. That ruu will not wipe data either.
