I need a new mainboard. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

basically a power outtage fried my mainboard, my phone has been unusable for MONTHS. I need to fix this somehow..
Why the hell does the skyrocket have mainboards EVERYWHERE for $60, but I have to spend $350 on a god damned broken phone that MIGHT have a working mainboard to fix my note?
Warrenty is already voided. AT&T store basically swapped me a battery that was corroded which screwed a battery pin up. THIS IS NOT WHY MY PHONE WONT TURN ON. It wokred fine aside from not charging until the power outtage.
Where the hell do I buy this mainboard?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I do have one of my own:
How does a power failure cause a phone to break?

A power surge damage the power port or something. The board can only take so much volage be for it fries. I have lost many power cords to bad outlets.

What have you replaced so far? I only remember you replacing the USB board and the antenna wire. I thought that fixed everything.

Just a thought try craigslist it runs around 300 for a unit or less for a dropped one and you can use your old one as future parts. There may be one in your area and you could just meet and pickup.

im not gunna lie I actually bought a brand new note. I spent months looking for a new damn mainboard.
And a power surge that also killed my modem and router also decided to fry my entire phone mainboard. I think the screen is still good, how much can I sell that for?

Power surge or lightning strike?
You can sell a note with a bad board for about $100 - someone with a broken front glass will have to spend $200 to have it replaced by Samsung.

We got hit here last week by lightning ....about 50 feet from the house ...
My house breakers blew ....and my phone was plugged in ....
It freaked out for about 2 minutes....then I pulled the battery and replaced it ...
The phone fired right up ....
I got lucky ....g

I think a transformer blew up. A power surge was definitely involved and I think an uprooted tree also destroyed the powerline for 2 days from a storm powerful enough to rip trees out of the ground

I know this is an old thread, but rather than starting a new one, I decided to up this one, because I have the exact question.
I need to buy a new mainboard. I damaged the connector for the screen, while replacing the screen. I looked everywhere, but they only have other parts, but not the mainboard itself.
Anyone know where to buy the mainboard from?

Bump......g

So, I have spoken to some vendors and suppliers of replacement parts.
Apparently, the mainboard for Note 1 are not for sale. They can't get them even if they wanted.
I would have to go through Samsung directly, but they are going to charge me an arm and a leg.
If your mainboard is damaged, it is best to sell the phone for parts and get a new phone instead.

You have renters or home owners insurance? Do a claim against it, replaced 7 of 7 tvs that blew when lighting hit near my house. Not sure if my rates went up, but damn sure did not have the cash to replace seven flat screens at once.

yeah, but with 7 rooms in the house, you should be able to get away from her trap somewhere!

No damage for me .....I'm not the OP
I bumped this thread in hopes we could find a source for new main boards.
They seem to be tightly held by Samsung and their respective suppliers.
And that sucks ....g

[Q] When to replace?

My 3rd Eris has the dreaded scroll left issue (one dead screen and now two trackballs). I tried the trackball cleaning trick from the "General" thread, no luck (anybody know any other fixes?). Was hoping to hold out for a duel core HTC or a Bionic, but it won't make it and my warranty is up. Question is, do I replace now with a Dinc/Droid X for a year or try to make my little Eris last until I can get a Thunderbolt? BTW, my current area doesn't have LTE, but I'll be moving to Cincinnati in July and they do.
I believe this to be a physical issue where the 2 screws that hold down the Tball/usb port daughterboard become loose allowing for some wiggle.
I fixed my errant Tball by replacing the daughterboard and cleaning the Tball rollers with alcohol.
The replacement was just because I had the spare part. What I noticed though was that the screws were rather loose.
Before fixing, usb cord would wiggle. After tightening, no wiggle and no left tug.
I admit though that my theory does not address why it always pulls left. If its just a matter of loose screws, left, right, up down it should pull in any direction.
But anyway, if there's no warranty and the product is becoming unusable, break it down and see what it's made of. What's there to lose?
(Disclaimer: I void warranties)

Another observation, the 2 usb port daughterboards I have have different serial numbers on the chips and 'doo-hickies'.
Different suppliers? manufacturing dates? Revisions? Fix for known issue?

I might give this a try... doesn't seem like that big of a task and gives me an excuse to see what it's made of lol.
That might void the ability to trade it in before it's completely unusable... they've dropped the price of the Dinc and Droid X since they will be replaced soon. Sign a 1 yr contract and it should me cost little to nothing and I can upgrade next spring to a Quad-Core!

[Q] Atrix not powering on

My atrix won't power on (dropped in water); I have had it in dried rice, placed in a zip bag, and sun dried....before all that I immediately removed the battery and shook out whatever water i could. I've waited a full day but still no luck; if I remove the battery and plug in to PC with battery removed I get green LED but other than that I get nothing (for example if I switch to wall charger immediately the LED goes out). If at worst case I need a replacement, how difficult would it be to have this done without the AT&T purchase receipt (I'm not an AT&T customer)? I purchased the item on eBay a little over a month ago. I've read in forums to unroot before attempting return but that's not gonna happen (lol). My girlfriend hates that I even got an atrix so she's kinda happy this happened...a little off topic here, but I really love my atrix so can someone please help me out?!

Well, no help cuz no solution is available. Your phone is screwed and if it fell into water, the water seals must be screwed up as well and guarantee is void.
Think about it
Well the green LED comes on when plugged into USB like I said...but other than that nothing...I can't find the OEM charger adapter of all the times to be lost. I guess since other threads were successful in revival I would have hoped I would get lucky. Thank you for your reply.
They will know it's been in water by the sensors. They will also know you didn't buy from them. Best bet is insurance if you have it, but I think you are out of luck.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
i jumped in the river about 2 weeks ago and completely forgot i had my atrix in my pocket. i would say it was about a good 5 mins underwater. Water damage sign appeared on atrix as well as battery. (red dot). i did the rice thing too..but nothing. unless you're insured..which i was..theres nothing you can do. sorry for your loss.
Does anyone have a general idea of how much it would cost to have the board replaced then?

Actually I sat and thought about it and there's the fingerprint and camera to also take into consideration, as well has other functionalities just didn't post. I'm in between studying Windows Server 2008 , watching TV, and just randomly doing other things. Thanks to you all for your help though. I may just try to find an atrix with just a broken screen or just forget about it all together. I've only had the phone for 3 weeks but stuff happens, consider it $500 down the drain .
Disassemble it, take a look at it, remove the corrosion manually. Use a heatgun on the components, but dont overheat it. Afterwards put together and check if battery still has power with a multimeter. Reassemble and plug into wall charger. See what happens

I say this is your best bet. Try this, or get someone with some electronics knowledge to take a look.
It beats just tossing it.
Either that or put it up on ebay and try to recoup some money. someone with a broken screen, or camera might want to buy it for parts.

Any Ideas

So in the beginning of July I dropped my Rezound in some water, and it voided those water sensors on the back, and thought it has been functioning fine, you can notice that there is/was water under the very back of the screen when it is a white screen and it messes up from here to there but has worked alright. So I used my upgrade in March to get this phone and Verizon basically said I can buy a new phone at full price or else I'm screwed and stuck with it. Besides just finding someone on craigslist, ebay, etc.. anyone got any ideas on how I can get a new Rezound on the cheap or anything else 4g from Verizon on the cheap that isn't a turd, or somehow I can get a discount?
Just looking for any input, I'm fine with it now, but it's just annoying, and I'm not sure how long the phone will be operational.

Why do you plug in the charger?
Perhaps a little heat to help drive out the water? Just my guess.

Exactly. Putting it on the dashboard of your car works too, just make sure it's completely covered in rice so it doesn't get too hot. After all, you can bake cookies on your dashboard nowadays.
Oh! I forgot to mention taking the back off, for better airflow. Removing the battery, SIM and SD card don't hurt either, but I don't think the charger will work if you remove the battery. None of my other phones ever have but I've never tried it with my Rezound.

You can check the marketplace here on XDA too. I've seen some rezounds for around $200.
We're only talking about 5V, 1A, which isn't a lot of power. Yes, at high voltage or high current, water and electricity don't mix but I'm sure he's charged it since he dropped it. I've saved devices in exactly this way in the past. Screens are the the hardest part to save, though. The touchscreen on my old iPhone needed to be replaced because the bottom half stopped responding to touches and the camera has a very faint shadow in the screen if you hold it at a certain angle in bright light. Both devices otherwise work perfectly but I hardly use them any more because they've been replaced by my Rezound.

[Q] Hardware problems - Screen malfunction

Hey guys,
Terrible tragedy here, had this phone for just a couple months and the audio jack started going wonky. Audio would cut out of one channel unless I spun the wire exactly the right way. Got tired of this, so I ordered a new jack for a few bucks and waited for it to come from China. When it finally did, I pulled my phone apart carefully following this guide:
dozuki-guide-pdfs.s3.amazonaws.com/durapowerglobal/guide_4_en.pdf
Not my first rodeo here, so it was pretty simple to take to apart, snap in the new jack, and put it all back together. Turned it on, and sound works, volume rocker, haptic buttons light up, vibrates, indicator light, all that good stuff. But the screen won't come on! Step 3 of that guide (the image is a little hard to see) has a black outline around the screen flex cable. Reseated that thing some 50 times already crossing fingers and praying to gods I don't believe in. Still nothing. I swear I was more careful with this repair than I've ever been with anything in the past, didn't crack anything, twist, bend, break anything, didn't go crossing wires or doing it while the phone was on. I can't see any reason why the screen won't turn on :crying: And the pricetag on a new screen is just about what the phone is! That, and of course there's no guarantee that a new screen would solve the problem if the issue happened to be on the board side of the connector.
Any advice? I'm grabbing at straws here and really don't want to have to drop money on another one just a few months after I bought it. Help greatly appreciated!
I am not sure what you can do, but since you had a legit issue with the phone that you didn't cause by doing something you shouldn't have, why didn't you get it exchanged under warranty?

Interesting... that thought never even crossed my mind. I guess my presumption was that a problem like that could be deemed damage to the phone if they insisted I had a wire plugged in and bent it or something to that effect. I guess I'm just so used to warranties not ever fixing anything that I forgot they existed. My natural reaction has become: something's broken? I'll have to fix it.
Though, I guess I could put it back together and bring it to a Verizon store and say the screen turned off and won't turn back on. Playing dumb may be a viable option.

My mistake, I didn't mean to cite fraud on this board. I'm simply frustrated with something that doesn't make sense to me and looking for a viable option that doesn't involve a $700 price tag. If I dropped it or got it wet I'd pay the bill, no problem. That I can clearly say is my fault and I messed up. I'm just astounded as someone who builds and repairs laptops, has fixed countless cell phones, ipods, etc. that simply unplugging a wire and plugging it back in would make the screen completely stop working with no signs of life. I just can't make sense of WHY it happened. If I could, I could blame myself and accept the bill for it and call it a lesson learned. But I haven't learned anything, other than that 99% of the time when I carefully replace parts everything will work fine, and 1% of the time - the time when the replacement bill is over 200% the original bill - something will strangely go wrong without any reasonable explanation.

Samsung doesn't charge an insane amount to fix the screen. Not anywhere close to 700.
The end of the day, the screen worked fine, you took the phone apart, screen now doesn't work, your fault. You did something. Everyone makes mistakes. You have a lesson to learn here, you just don't like it. Your lesson should be to have it replaced with a refurbed unit through Verizon not fix it yourself while under warranty unless they deem your issue not covered by warranty.
Warranties are interesting things. They sometimes cover things they shouldn't and don't cover things they should. Laptop warranties cover the AC port. I've sent laptops off for customers in the past where they obviously broke the AC port by putting extreme force against the AC cord. MFG still covered it. Not every company is out to get you.
I've only had to do it once with my Rezound. Got the refurb in a few days and sent my original one back. Was simple. I also didn't pay a dime.

[Q] DNA won't charge/turn on

Hey guys,
I'm new to the DNA forum and I've searched through a few threads about this but I haven't been able to find much help. Here we go: so as the title states the phone won't turn on and when I put it on the charger no LED's turn on to resemble a charge at all. I've tried the power button for 20 seconds, nothing happens, I've tried the power button, volume down, and even power, volume up and down. None of these seem to give life to the phone.
This is actually my friend's old phone and he got a replacement for it already I'm just trying to see if I can get it working again. So really I have a free DNA to diagnose because Verizon doesn't want it back.
Phone wasn't rooted before it died, pure stock.
Anybody have a suggestion or path you think I should take?
Thanks ahead of time,

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you need to ask your friend for the complete story. What happened prior to the phone being bricked? Was there water damage or any other damage. Have you tried other charging cables that are known to be working and looked to make sure the pins inside the charge port have not been broken?
Sounds bricked to me. If it is bricked only way to get it working is to jtag it and send it out. It will be cheaper than paying for a new dna and if you really want it, it would run you a lot less in terms of money for a jtag repair.

Try letting it charge a full 24hrs and then see if it powers on. If that doesn't work then consider jtag

Not sure if I'll go the JTAG route or not. Like I said the phone has been replaced already it just sucks I can't take advantage of the phone. I have it sitting on the charger now, going to see if it'll work after a long period of time. There's no water damage, Verizon has checked it already.
If I would JTAG it...what would come of that. I'm not 100% familiar with JTAG, I just did a small amount of googling about it. Looks like a diagnostic procedure?

Its like a low level format that will restore to factory configuration.
It will get the phone working for a smaller coast than purchasing a new one. So you would still be taking advantage of getting a new phone. If you purchase the phone through Verizon with an upgrade you will be spending around 250$ where as opposed to getting it jtaged I believe you will only be paying 65$ (not sure about price) if you go through mobile tech.

The upgrade cost is only $99 nowadays. I just got mine Monday from Fry's Electronics for $99.99. If they didn't have it, I was going to order it from wireless [dot] amazon [dot] com for $99.99.
Interesting...I may have to go that route, I'm considering taking it apart and getting a voltage reading off the charging port. That'll at least tell me if the port is working correctly. If I go down that path I'll keep you all updated.

They must have dropped price since I got it. It was the same on Amazon and verizon when I get my dna

I took the back off only to find out I don't have screwdrivers small enough to take it all apart. Also couldn't get a correct reading from anywhere. Back to the drawing board for now...

Did you try a wireless charging pad? That might work who knows

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you need to ask your friend for the complete story. What happened prior to the phone being bricked? Was there water damage or any other damage. Have you tried other charging cables that are known to be working and looked to make sure the pins inside the charge port have not been broken?

Happened to me too on the 2.04 shipped. Totally unrooted n it just went black and never woke up. Set it down, picked it up. That's it.

Greetings, I purchased a Droid DNA on craigslist and thought I had a great deal, the phone turned on, then turned off and never would take a charge again. After contacting verizon and having them tell me to return the device to the"retailer" I purchased the device from, I contacted HTC directly. HTC provided me with an amazing customer service expirence, it was weird and erie how good the service was. They gave me a ticket number number and an address to ship the device to, they didnt care where I purchased it. They day it arrived they fixed it and sent it back with a new motherboard less than 24 hours after delivery conformation. The device works perfectly.
I guess what I am getting at is if you can put the phone back together and make it look like you didnt take it apart, call HTC and create a repair order. All these devices come with at least a 1 year warranty.
I hope you get your device working regardless.
Yeah HTC support is by far the best support I have ever experienced. I felt the same way. My charger was bugging out and I called they got all my info and just said they would send a new one for free and to throw the other one out. They called me today and I missed the call but they didn't leave any message. Wondering if I should call them back or not, but oh well.

Little late on my update but I did get the phone apart and back together. I didn't see anything that stuck out, no water damage, etc.
I would contact HTC and try to get a replacement, however Verizon realized they never got the device back and well...they want it. So there goes my fun...
Thanks for all the input

same problem
I had the exact same issue (no charging no screen but capacitive touch buttons flashed) and had been playing with it trying to get my month old gold brick at this point, to rise like the Phoenix when it caught the light at just the right angle and the screen looked weird. Took a flashlight to it and the LCD is damaged but there is NO damage to the case/frame/digitizer. Been dealing with HTC for a week an probably will have to repair it myself. But heads up to anyone else with the same issue check the screen...
I am having the same problem. Any home based solutions so that i dont need to take it to either Verizon store or post it to JTAG?
Thank You

Although it may not appear to be charging let it sit for the night as it may be. Then take it off in the morning and hold the power button for 30 seconds and see if it boots. Some dna phones have issues when they die. My battery has died 4 times on me and when I plug it in the led light blinks for 2 mins and then it stays lit and charges so, just let it sit over night and try in the morning.
Report back when you have done the following.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did that whole night. The green light dint even blink for a single second. And pressing the power button does nothing. I tried plugging it into computer, computer dint even detect it. (on mac, windows 7 and linux). I tried to boot it into the bootloader mode, still no progress.
Thank You
