[Q] Static Noise From Speaker? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Z Ultra and I've noticed an issue with the internal speaker:
When the speaker is utilised (for example, from the screen lock/unlock sound, or touch sound), the speaker emits a soft but audible buzz/static for about 3 - 5 seconds after the sound has played. I can hear this buzz ~40cm from the phone in a quiet room (living room).
Does anyone else have this issue?
UPDATE: I have received a new phone from warranty and it does not have the buzzing that I was experiencing with the previous phone.

This isn't normal at all. It could be a hardware issue, but do a factory reset first and see if that helps. Backup your stuff before you do it (use Sony's backup app) since it'll wipe everything. If the noise is still there, i guess you'll have to use you warranty (i know that sucks).

I have the same issue, will be wiping the phone and installing dogg rom and will let you know if it goes

Thanks for the replies, I will take it into the local Sony store today and see what they say.
Edit: The sony store said they don't handle warranties and got me to call the Sony mobile division instead, who then said it is definitely a fault and I should return the product.

I noticed the same problem today and promptly started freaking out lol.
I turned off Clear Phase and xLoud in the sound settings it got rid of the static. Hope that helps.

I think it's normal and any device have it. (for a 1 sec)

I also heard a buzzing noise for less than a second after notification tone is played, all the time.
Is this normal? Are you sure it is eligible for a replacement? I have also turned off xloud, digital normalizer etc to make sure the buzzing sound still persist!
Just need a second opinion here...

Speakers Get Stuck Playing Loud Noise

Hi guys,
I just followed the instructions on wiping my new G-Tablet device, putting Clockworkmod on it, then I put the latest edition of Vegan lite. It's AWESOME (WAY better than the original!).
Only thing is (and I had this problem when I tried rooting my device once before this after getting it brand new), 1-2 times I've had the speakers just play a loud noise constantly and I have to turn the device off and on.
The second time was early this morning (6am-ish). I had my alarm set for that time and instead of playing the alarm sound I chose, it just constantly played a loud noise that I couldn't stop. Anyone heard of this?

if the sound is a static sssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound that happehearden any audio is supposed to be heard yes, I've seen this. It doesnt always happen but after a while it starts making that noise when audio is supposed to be heard.
I bought 2 off of Woot and 1 had this problem. I read somewhere on these forums that it seems to be a hardware issue that only seems to affect a handful of g tabs. Woot gave me an rma for it and is replacing it.

I had the problem with the stock rom and with TNT lite, it wasn't that big of a deal because a reboot would take care of it, but it bothered me because even with the volume turned all of the way down the static sound was loud. I would just feel rude if it did that on a flight or in class....

[Q] Earpiece and Speaker sound acting weird

Okay so earlier today I was eating lunch and I managed to spill water on my phone. I immediately went and dried it out and then turned it back on. Everything appeared to be working except the sound. I had the Xperia Z1, so I knew you had to wait a little before the sound would return back to normal out the speaker port, so I waited but it still wasn't working. Upon further investigation, I discovered that it would play my ringtone(a song from my SD Card), notification tone and the noise it makes when you adjust the volume using the buttons but it would not play my music through the music player app at all. It also wouldn't play sound out of the earpiece so I could only hear the only person if my phone was on speaker. The speaker is back to it's normal sound now but it still won't play music, things through youtube or pandora and my earpiece still isn't working. Is this a software issue or is it a hardware thing? It's very strange. I'm using XtreStoLite right now and I'm downloading a stock rooted rom and I'm gonna flash it to see if that changes anything, but has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? What would my options be as far as fixing the problem? Thanks in advanced for all your answers, and also, the water damaged sticker is still pearly white so I don't think it's water damaged. I already tried reseting, taking my battery out and factory reseting as well.

Wowza, what a wall of text. Paragraphs please, as that is too hard to read all the way through.
One possibility is moisture or dried crud in the headphone or USB jacks leading the phone to think that a headset is connected. Hardware damage seems a lot less likely.
Or it could be an unrelated and coincidental software issue. Do you have a known good backup that you could try restoring?

(Z5 Compact / E5823) Speaker volume lowering itself

Greetings.
Just bought the Z5C. Phone is awesome, but when I play anything over the speakers (incoming call, music, etc.) the volume is good for about a second, and then it turns very silent.
Anyone experienced this, or knows something about the issue?

Hey! I had this same issue for the first day that I had the phone. It was driving me crazy. What drives me even more crazy is I don't what I did to fix it. I am not entirely sure, but I noticed a difference after pairing the Z5C to a bluetooth speaker for about 30 minutes. When I unpaired and went back to the speakers on the phone they were substantially better. Hope this helps...

I was trying different things on my phone and decided to factory reset it. After it rebooted the same problem is back. Low volume for second, then super quiet. I tried replicating the same process I thought somehow fixed the issue before and it didn't help. I've tried messing with all the audio settings, toggles here and there but nothing seems to fix it. I wonder what this might be and why the phone all of a sudden started working like it should last time. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, I had the same problem with lower sound from speakers after 30 seconds. After disabling "STAMINA" the speakers are very loud. And if you put "Audio settings" to "standby aktive" you could even activate "STAMINA" without speaker loudness problems
Yeah happened to me yesterday as I was listening to the Radio app while on a walk. Went from relatively loud to super low quiet. I thought maybe I pocket bumped the volume or something.
Same problem. In my case, I noticed audio almost stops from one of the speakers (sometimes the top one, sometimes the bottom one, wich indicates it may not be a hardware issue). Happens on games, music, videos, or calls with the speaker on. Seems to be random.
searching for this problem (this is also happening to me (mostly top speaker while i playing and mostly games
is only one speaker(top) for me not 2 speakers
(maybe the heat? if im not the only one is hardware or software? ) it was at 5.1.1 so updated to 6.0 still the same.. maybe speaker wont working well while heated? tried to shake the device thought maybe something loose connection inside

Crackling noise from speakers

I've noticed a strange high pitch cracking noise from the speaker, not far from when you get a phone call or text near a speaker but only for a second and only on playback from Facebook videos playing via chrome and in the same part of the video. Has anyone else noticed this it's not a massive problem but I'm thinking of RMA.
Update: RMA'd the device for other reasons (headphones broke after 2 weeks) but it still persists with the other device so I'm not sure why this is happening
Wait. You RMA'd because of broken headphones, and they gave you a new phone. You sure about that? Also how the hell does warranty include broken headphones?

Yeah well kinda, faulty headphones after 15 days so I was in the 30 day replacement period and Carphone Warehouse (LG V30 exclusive) didn't have them in stock in store so couldn't just swap them so they took my phone away and sent me a new unit the next day
I just started have this same issue. It seems to only happen when the phone rings or text. Strange!!!
Same here. It makes nasty annoying popping sounds when my alarm goes off. Except I think it may be the audio files themselves as i did some searching and someone with the exact problem posted that. Testing youtube on max volume and no popping noises. Phew.
If it is happening near a speaker it is called spagnola

Galaxy S9 Plus Sound Problem

Hey everyone, I have the T-Mobile version of the galaxy s9 plus. The past few days I've come across something really weird... sometimes while im watching a video or listening to music or playing a game, basically everything that involves sound, there is a weird static, crackling noise. At first when it happened I though my headphones were screwed because they are kinda old, but afterwards realized that its the phone in general because both speakers make the same noise. I tried bunch of things in the audio settings to see if maybe dolby atmos was the issue or whatever but nothing fixed it. It is really really annoying because it happens frequently and it sucks while im listening to music at work or watching netflix or anything like that. Just wondering if any of you guys have any fixes or have seen that issue or experienced it. Thanks in advance.

I am also having sound issues. Mine, however, are bit different: sound coming from headphones is distorted, muffled as if it was coming from inside of a box. No matter the sound source (Spotify, YouTube, mp3 on the phone).
Interestingly enough, after I restart the phone, sound is back to normal... For 20 seconds <,<
Speakers are fine though.
Mine is on PHN firmware

I'm also having issues with sound on my S9+, Exynos version. I've hade mine for a few days and discovered the first evening that there was some annoying static noise when I played some videos I had shot with the camera. I immediately called Samsung support and the advice I got there was to reset the camera app and shut down the phone for about 2 minutes and then restart it. That seemed a while to have solved the problem until I tonight discovered that the sound came and went from some other video clips I had shot tonight. I have now made a factory reset of the phone and will see if that was sufficient or not . Besides this I haven't experienced any other issues. What I however fear is causing this is Dolby Atmos , but I may be wrong of course. In worst case I'll have to return the phone if this problem continues.

Wow... well please follow up here if resetting the phone fixes the issue, so I can try it too. I also realized the past few days that I have a wi-fi issue so the phone just doesn't stop with the problems Whenever im on Wi-Fi and I go on any social media app like facebook twitter youtube etc my wi-fi cuts off showing there is no internet... and I know its not a problem on my end because I have many people connected and they are all using the wi-fi fine...
I had the exact same problem with mine, but it only started happening after putting an ad card in., when I took the sd card out, it fixed itself and I haven't had a problem since, so try that. If it works it works, if not it was worth a try
This issue sounds like a rising case for a recall. Send it back to the service center.
have a similar issue but mine is a little different, when i only play music it works fine, but the minute i start a game for example words with friends 2 the crackling noise starts. If i minimize the game the sound is gone.
Currently having the same peoblem with mine. Any tips on how to troubleshoot?
Same issue on my Verizon s9+
I have the exact same problem on my Verizon Galaxy S9 Plus. But it only happens with Dolby Atmos on. The crackling sound and static goes completely away and never happens when I have Dolby Atmos off.
Did anyone have and solutions for this as I'm having a similar issue with the Note9 and have had the issue on two handsets.
I've got a weird issue with the sound on my s9+. Every now and then the sound will dip as if a notification has arrived, except it hasn't. Does it in all apps.

Wow. That's too bad. Hopefully you're much happier. I added the warranty to this one so I'm hoping they will exchange it.
