[Q] Update solving corrosion - how detect? - LG G Watch

The LG G Watch have issue with contacts corrosion and LG released a fix for it (the voltage on the contacts should be turned off when the watches are out of charging crandle)
But how I can detect if the patch is applied and if not, how I can apply it? I bought the watches about 2 weeks ago and I see that one contact is darker as others, when I check system update it says that I'm on newest version.
Thanks.

I'd like to know that too.

Hm, I have burned my hand and now I measured the contacts and there is voltage about 1.75V when watches are on the desk, dispay is off.
System reports up to date
Can somebody tell which version of software has in the watches?

Mine is on Software Version 4.4W.1 Build KGW42Q, however I have not checked the voltages...
I'll post my voltage results in a few minutes....
Cheers!

So apparently the update did not took care of the pin corrosion issue after all...
Or is there a newer build?

I too am getting corrosion and I actually received my G Watch on the the week after the update went out to prevent the corrosion.
I didn't have any issues until the watch updated for a 2nd time (the first was when it booted), which was a couple weeks ago.
I'm not too troubled since my Moto 360 should be here tomorrow, but someone needs to address the damage that is being caused and provide something to those affected. I'm sure the black version of the watch doesn't look nearly as bad as the white version (which is the one I have).
If I remember to do so, I'll snap a few photos later on and share them here.

On my white one (see photo above) I don't see any corrosion per se, however I can see the second pin from the top with a different (lighter) color. Is that the kind of problem you are having?
Cheers!

Mind started out like yours, but over the weekend I began to notice a build up of corrosion around the base of the pin. You can see the discoloration on the white pretty easily and this photo was taken after I scraped away much more brown corrosion from the sides of the pin.

Dammit, I didn't notice the corrosion buildup, mine have lots between the pins too!
How did you manage to scrape it off? Toothbrush? Plain water?

Had a sharp thin piece of plastic sitting around. I'd just avoid stuff that is harder or to sharp that it damages the plastic. I really hope the next update re-fixes this issue. Otherwise it'll just keep getting worse over time.

My watches. Already packed and I will return it to Amazon. But what now?

Thanks for the warning, I use this stuff now.

I sent question to the LG and I got this response:
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics.
I do apologize for the trouble on our LG G Watch. Upon checking, the latest software version is the 4.4.W.1 that you already have in your device. Software updates are automatically pushed to the device once it’s connected to the internet via your mobile phone. This confirms that your device is already up-to-date.
For reference, this update was made to disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock. Turning off the current should stop the chemical process that causes corrosion while the metal connectors are in contact with the skin, preventing further residue buildup that causes corrosion.

Ialready returned the device to Amazon and I'm back on Sony SW2 which is stable, display is better visible and globally are more usable. I know that it is dead platform but Android Wear needs some time to grow. Software and hardware too

I purchased my G Watch through the Play Store and when I contacted them about this they immediately said they would send a replacement out. This was great service, but before using it, I'll be waiting to see if there is a fix or workaround.
I think Google is actually the ones in charge of the software updates, and so I don't think LG support would be the best to contact about the issue. The corrosion fix started rolling out late July (HERE is the list of all the updates) , and there has since been one more update in early September. I worry that something went wonky at that point.

Just yesterday I noticed the second top pin is also discolored in mine

My wife's do not have this issue, probably because I sweat more than her.
Did you guys experience any issues charging? If charging is not affected I will probably leave the issue as it is, afraid that scrapping/cleaning it off is going to make it worse.

I've read some nasty stuff about this issue. The worst thing that could happen is that you can't charge it anymore. I got my G Watch yesterday and I hope that my watch doesn't get affected by this problem.

Just use a piece of PostIt to cover the pins!
Very easy to take off and replace lots of times.
Also try to clean the contacts from time to time to avoid corrosion build-up between the pins.
Even with the latest firmware update, still no voltage fix!
Bad LG... BAD!!!
Cheers!

White AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717, possible defect

Discovered a hair line crack today on my White AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717. Took it to a corporate store and the manager told me there isn't anything he can do about it, because it isn't a known, reported issue. Well I am here to be the first. Hopefully this doesn't become a common issue and there is some sort of recourse. Meanwhile I will be posting to let others be aware of this possible defect.

Where is that. A crack is a crack regardless of reports.
If you are within 3O days the store should swap it. After 30 days you need to call warranty...800-801-1101 i think

why dont you just examine the phone in store before you purchase??

Also, do you really need 2 threads for this?
It isnt always there.

Yup. My white 3GS. Some where in India now though. Good riddance. But I do recall something happening with the Nexus One where it would crack near the power button sometimes.
That sucks. But i do recall white iphone 3-3gs having this issue. I hope this doesnt happen to my note.

A crack, of any kind, is considered to be physical damage, and is therefore not a warranty exchangeable issue. Can only be replaced via insurance claim. If by some miracle, you get a store rep to replace it, then kudos to you!

Unless it's a seam split caused by faulty manufactures' materials.. Samsung saw the picture and told me to take it back to place of purchase for a replacement. ** We already know how far that's gonna get me..

The problem with the "Gray Scale" wasn't discovered to be a problem until recently, which this phone has. Also it has reset TWLauncher 4 times, when enabling Wifi via the notification bar, I just chalked it up as crappy programming..

Sometimes these things show up later, that is why they are called "manufactures' defects" and have warranty to cover replacements or repairs.

Sitting on it would have cracked the glass, the chrome or something else no?
Anyways, no haven't sat on it. I carry my phone in my left front pocket, if that might be an issue. I've always carried them there, never happened to any of my black phones..
My bad about the double post, forgot I had posted that question before going to the AT&T store from my phone via Tapatalk..
If a mod would be so kind as to merge the threads, I'd appreciate it, and sorry
I remember the white DS Lite got cracks in the hinge and like people said before the white 3GS and maybe the 3G had some problems with cracks and yellowing. The Note doesn't have a problem since more people would have reported it by now, you probably just got a bit of bad luck.

It's possible. If while flexing the plastic was the weakest part, then sure, it could crack first.
One big thing I have a hard time reading about in this thread, is the focus on just the white models. Ever think that you never saw any micro cracking on a black device be cause the crack itself was black? If it didn't stand out like it would on a white device, you wouldn't even know to look for it.

This is true, although what happens eventually with these cracks is air, moisture, dust, sand, debris gets into the split and eventually into the screen which would be visible regardless of the color of the phone's casing. I guess black material is more flexible.
Another bigger problem is that split may eventually become bigger and worse yet is get caught on something and snap off. I have seen the issue with cracks near the power and volume rockers, from the normal pressure of the user pressing the area which is open and more delicate after long term use... Eventually splitting at two ends and part of the bezel falling off. ** They claim this is physical damage, which in part is true, but only because the quality of the materials was questionable in the first place.
Again, personally I'm not too bothered. But the Samsung Warranty rep mentioned exactly that (above) and if that were to eventually happen, it would not be covered under the warranty and then be considered physical damage.
I then reminded her what a 00mred00 reminded me of..

And she reluctantly agreed.
It's like saying Toyota doesn't have to compensate a user for having faulty breaking system or electrical problems with acceleration on their cars. Because the user crashed and totaled the car, dismissing the user, claiming physical damage.. ofc some people will just take that, others won't and if enough don't accept that as the answer, then the manufacturer will have to address the problem, but only until then.. If they can get away with it..
Honestly I hope this is an isolated problem, only affecting a very few owners. And I just happen to get one of the affected units. Because truthfully I absolutely love the phone and if I were to get a replacement, I would want another white one with the hopes of it not happening again, at least to me
Hope you find a solution. BTW White Note ROCKS!
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
** RESOLVED (sort of, but I couldn't close) details within...
I have to write this to let people know there is a solution and to give credit where credit is due.
So after going to DSC, they couldn't help me because they don't have the Note to exchange. They recommended I go back to the store.
I went to a store about a block away, explained. They told me I would have to go back to the original store and speak directly to the manager, not to waste time with rep. Explain the situation and have her do an exception and do the replacement.
Instead, I went to one last AT&T store, one that happens to be in a more posh neighborhood. Went directly to a manager (Rick, Coral Cables FL Store). Explained everything, told him what DSC, the other store, AT&T warranty support and Samsung Warranty Support all told me to do. He looked at the phone, looked at a display phone. Went to a rep (Yavon, Coral Gables FL Store) and told him to get me a new replacement.
Trouble started for me, when they tried to look up the account, purchase, via the IMEI on their system. It didn't show up. Happen to be another Manager in a suit and tie was there and helped the rep. Issue here is that it was pre-ordered via online Feb. 15th for the Feb. 17th delivery. Fine they found that.
Here's the next problem, the phone was no longer registered on their system because the original phone number was ported out to another carrier. So they had no active account to complete the swap/replacement..
Brand new replacement box was right in front of me within my grasp and almost in my hands. Alas I could not close the deal because of the technicality. But it goes to prove that it can be done, calmly.. Just have to find the right person. Someone mentioned once, you need to find the person that is there to help you get the issue resolved and doesn't take the exchange/replacement personally.
Again, I posted this because I know there are people that have this issue, and I know there will be others that will eventually suffer through this. For you and them to know that there is/are several solutions to a legitimate problem.
When I left the store, I told the manager and rep that I was thankful for them having taken the time to actually try to resolve my problem and really tried hard to look into the issue and find a solution. I understand I personally hit a stump as far as how much AT&T can do for "me". I let them know that in other stores they were not so willing and just brushed me off instantly dismissing me. And further putting blame on me having caused the damage, by pure speculation and assumption on their part that it must have been that I dropped it or somehow caused it by some sort of physical damage. They apologized.
My next step is Samsung Warranty Repair.

[Q] faulty screen? lots of green dots and specs

Something I noticed a few weeks ago...
When I have my screen brightness set on the higher end, I see these green dots.
With the power and screen both on, and when the display is trying to show black, I am finding these green dots and specs.
The size of these dots are tiny, probably a pixel or two at most. They are clustered mostly in the inner 50% of the centre of the screen.I have not counted them but we are talking about a few hundred.
At first I thought it was dust or something under the glass, but noticed that with the screen off, it cannot be seen, and when the screen is white background, it cannot be seen either.
It is more noticeable when watching videos. If you crank up the brightness during a scene at night, let's say, it is almost unbearable.
Does anybody else suffer this?
Faulty pixels, you can get it exchanged.
I used the dead pixel app from Google play, where it flicks through many monotone color screens, one of them being black.
And as explained before, I see the green pixels on the pure black screen.
The strange thing is, the research I have done on dead pixels, hot pixels or stuck pixels tells me a different description to what i am seeing.
I see no problems at all during other color screens of the dead pixel test...only the black.
Do I have a uniquely malfunctioning unit, it are others or there?
If you have some spare time on your hands, could you try searching for dead pixel test in Google play and try it out?
No faulty pixels on mine. I think I've seen only one or two other similar reports.
But no matter if the pixels are dead, hot or stuck, it's hardware fault and I'm sure you can get your tablet replaced without a problem.

Not yet, but I will. It has been a while since the original post, but I think it is getting worse. It has spread to a wider area. I contacted service center in Hong Kong and they told me that it should only take 3 hours to replace the lcd. So I will fly there nervy week and get it fixed.
Better to have it done while still under warranty..
I will report one done.

I sent mine in but they did nothing at the problem. They sent it back within two days claiming there is no problem and that they had updated firmware (which they could not have done since I did it before I sent it in lol...)
I called support again and they in return will call the repairshop asking what they actually did to my tablet. Most likely (if everything turns out ok) I will have to send it in again (which is still is annoying) and hopefully they will notice the problem this time.

Which County are you?
Not to defend Sony in any way, but it can be difficult to spot the problem when the screen brightness is anything below 50%.
I notice my problems in the following scenarios.
1) when I boot up the tablet, first the Sony logo. Here you can see it a bit because the background is black. But it gets a lot worse when moving into the next screen during 'Xperia'. Here the brightness is turned up, making it extremely noticeable.
2) when I am trying to watch a movie outside or in a bright place making my screen reflect, forcing me to turn the brightness up above 70% mark...
3) when I am using my tablet in pitch dark... Even in low brightness setting it can be noticed. Especially bad when the movie scene I am watching is for example night time and thus naturally contains a lot of black on the screen.
Anyway, thanks for your info. Before I submit my tablet, I will make sure the recipient sees and understand the problem and get that person to attach a note to describe it for the repair crew.
Judging by the lack of response to this thread, we seem to have encountered a rare problem.

Im from Sweden.
Yeah well I thought I was pretty clear on my instructions regarding how to notice the problem but you might be right. Mine isnt visible much when in use (apart from dark background with 100% brightness) and in dark enviroments.
Right now Im waiting for Sony Xperia support to call me telling me what the next step is. They wanted me to take a picture of them problem however its good to get a good print (picture is easy but printing it is harder ).
I have seen another thread regarding this at Sony Talk forum but that might be you aswell?

UPDATE
I flew into HK last night and went straight to Xperia care centre this morning.
I did not need to mention anything, I showed him the green dots (he called them dead pixels) and took it in immediately.
Judging by his reaction (his English was not very good) it was not the first time he had seen this on the Z2 tablet, and seemed to ask no further.
I showed receipt from purchase, he gave me a form to sign, and I was told to come back in 4 hours.
I came back after 4 hours, and everything was perfect.
I wasn't sure at the time, but it involves replacing the whole front display unit. The LCD screen and outer glass seem to be one piece, because everything was changed.
just a pain that the screen protector was gone with the old screen, so I needed to go and buy new, and that they had to factory reset... one click root and Titanium backup will come in handy...
All in all, my first ever Sony repair experience was professional, efficient and stress free.

Glad to hear that everything turned out ok for you. I have sent mine back and it will soon be at the repair shop (i can track the package). Hopefully they will be able to spot the problem this time otherwise I will be mad.. ;(.
I will update the thread with the result!
Let us know how it goes! I have the same issue, but being here in the United States it will be difficult to send it back to an HK service center....
I have the same problem, im about to call xperia support cause, i need this fix this, i get my tablet to do my homeworks and projects, but mine is around all the lcd i hope they can replace mine

I just happened to have a business trip to Hk coming up so I didn't need to send it in, but when I initially discovered the problem and called Sony Hk, they told me that sending it by registered mail or FedEx was an option.
The Chap on the phone told me to start an email correspondence with support team, who would then provide me with step by step instruction on how to send my tablet in.
For me at the time it was not an option, only because the receipt/proof of purchase was left in my office along with the box in Hk...
Since my tablet was repaired in 3 hours or so, if things go smoothly you might get your tablet back within the week (although it sucks that you have to pay courier 2-way)
Just wanted to say that the 2nd time I sent it for service they replaced the screen and now it looks ok!
I had to write a detailed description of the problem and I also added a printed picture which showed the dots, aswell as a link to an uploaded img. I guess that made them realize.
Lets hope it can stay like this now...
I just wanted to share about mine xperia z2 tablet.I had the same pixel problem, bought the tablet in abay Germany, got it to local service canter in Latvia. They got in touch with Sony and I got complete SWAP. For now it looks ok, I am usingthe new tablet for 2 weeks, lets see what will happen.

Took mine in today for screen and constant reboots got a text saying it would be completed within five days but not what they were going to do so fingers crossed

LG G5 GPS FIX [ All Varients All software models] [Non-root needed]

so i cannot post pictures because im a new member.
Step 1: watch any LG G5 teardown video and seperate the glass screen with mobo out of the metal casing.
step 2: on the right side of mobo under the black circle fabric (below the fabric DO NOT REMOVE FABRIC JUST LOOK UNDER IN) YOU WILL SEE 3 little button nubs.
each nub has a little bent peice of metal facing upwards. Each one needs to be pushed up a little more. the problem was they are not hitting the ribbon connection to give them power on the back casing.
you can see an image of it here imgur. com /G76xf8N remove spaces please.

Can confirm this worked for me, here's an album if y'all want different angles on the phone
Confirmed as working for me too. I've done this mod on 3 phones already, all are a success. LG is horrible... Releasing phones with such blatant defects.
It will stop working after few days, cuz those are volume pins, has nothing to do with gps
If thats the real fix and the battery touches it, I'm almost certain that replacing batteries is causing this. It explains why many are reporting the issue coming back overtime when warranty replacing. My replacement is already getting worse GPS signal
Actually, makes sense these buttons are related to the volume buttons... There are multiple leads on the board connecting to the back of the case directly though, making me think that LG chose to use the "metal backing" as a GPS antenna. I've straightened multiple leads on the board which come in direct contact with the case itself and other elements just in case, but I have a feeling this will be an issue that plagues us G5 users until a hardware revision is done by LG...
Time to shop for another phone. What a bad investment this was...

wanna hear my story ? Bought S7 01.04.2016, 04.04.2016 was 1st time on warranty service cuz water in front cam, 2nd time 12.06 broke again same problem, last week 3rd time on warranty SAME PROBLEM, now I bought lg g5 with ****ed up GPS , VERY VERY nice.... looks like I'll give a shot to HTC 10 :/
if those 3 pins are gps antena and I dont think so, I'll just solder something to the backplace

Horrible how us early adopters get rimmed...
To be honest, I think those three leads do nothing but placebo after looking at the board... But notice all the leads across the board which connect to the case itself. I think those would be a better spot for GPS and phone antennas... Wish someone had a technical diagram for us.
As for the HTC 10, I've heard good things... Just not sure I'll be able to sell this phone to buy one.
Signal still holding strong today... Getting massive signal with no drops.
Is this problem still present in current versions? Or was it fixed? I can't believe LG still sells this phone with GPS not working? I get a G5 the next days, how can I check if mine has this issue too?
How ? I don' know dude, maybe, but just MAYBE you could install gps status and check it.........
I just read the "fix" and I just realized that this fix is total garbage. It can't work.
"each nub has a little bent peice of metal facing upwards. Each one needs to be pushed up a little more. the problem was they are not hitting the ribbon connection to give them power on the back casing. "
Everyone with normal reasoning can totally realize, that this "mod" will eventually fail again, really really soon, mostly after a few days, and you can read that btw already by lots of people, for example here:
https://m.reddit.com/r/lgg5/comments/4u8m9p/how_to_fix_your_gps_fixed_in_10_minutes/
Metal tends to change after some time or temperature / pressure, and it will fail again.
Why did no one develop a clever, simple and working mod so far? Why not just soldering a bit of liquid silver on the three contacts, with a bit of metal plate on top to make it 1-2mm higher? Or just even more simple: Do it on the backplate contacts.

To me, personally, I don't mind being a little bit critical, but with this response I think you are to direct and judgemental towards the topic starter. Topic starter has given his best to share his practice. And I agree with you this one will probably not last, but let's keep it friendly.

your answer is total garbage. ever seen a car that scraped on the ground because the shock absorbers failed due to temperature and high pressure just by existing?
unless you bend them over and over the method will most likely last for many years. you dont have a lot of forces acting on it.
if you make a fixed connection like soldering, the small dynamic forces would eventually weaken the material and it would break after some time. think before insulting somebody's idea
i don't think those are GPS antenna contacts.. as i used to observe that gps antennas usually have 1 or 2 contacts.. never 3! but they could do..
don't know if you read my topic about same issue and another "fix"..
at the moment we have 2 confirmed informations:
1) if you isolate detachable module pin connector you'll get no gps at all
2) gps will work good until you'll detach and reattach battery couple times.
this could explain why LG released this terminal which definitively passes any factory test! ...holy real day-use tests!

You can read, right?
1. look at the link. lots of people already claimed the """mod""" lasted about 2-5 days, then the problem came back.
2. what are you talking about!? Those contacts between the board and the backplate are based up on pressure. The mod just says "try to bend them upwards a bit". THIS MEANS IT WILL TOTALLY GO IN ITS BASE POSITION AGAIN REALLY SOON. It can't work.
3. back to, if you can read. Where did I say soldering it? Right, no where. I said put some layers of conducting anything on the backplates contacts to grow its height.
Not enough forces acting on them? Seriously? So to your logic, this means this problem wouldn't occur in the first place. Pressing with your fingers on the cover at that very place mostly is enough to push them back every time a little bit., also because they're at the very edge of the cover.

Bubbels inside screen in every corner

Recently I found some weird little air bubbles in the corners off my Nexus 9. I don't have any screen protector so that isn't it. It has never repared or replaced before, it's still original.
The air bubbles show up on the left side in both corners and are around 2mm big. In the corners on the right side are also starting to show some bubbles but they are hard to see. I took some pictures, to show you.

O, I never let the device fall so that not the case also.
It's almost 2 years old now and still has some warranty on it.

Photo URL and Google replaced some parts
Hi,
New update about the weird little bubbles in the edge of my screen.
I send my Nexus back to the shop and one week later I was called that they replaced some parts and that the problem was solved. I didn't know what parts where replaced but definitely the screen, back cover and the volume buttons have been replaced. It looks brand new and maybe it is another Nexus.
Here are some old photos because the old URL is broke .

Let me know of the URL works now ow and of you have more questions, please let me know.

Did you contact HTC directly, or did you contact Google, or did you just send your N9 back to the place you bought it from?
I bought my N9 from Amazon in Dec. 2014, so I'm not sure who to contact, and I'm not even sure I've got a 2 year warranty.

I brought it back to the place where I bought it and got it returned in 8 days.
I have 2 bubbles at top left corner and 1 at top right corner. Can't fix
All you need to fix it is bring to repair. I think it's look like glue or plastic just heat and melt down.
PS: same problem and in my country had no store accept to fix it. I think they don't have screen to replace it
Got it too - a bubble in top right corner slowly growing. Do not have either google or htc representative nearby, what am I supposed to do?
Did anyone get anywhere with this? My Nexus 9 has the same issue.
I contacted Google but as my N9 is over 2yo, they won't help me. All they would do is put me through to HTC.
I spoke with HTC and they kept implying I mistreated it or got it wet (I didn't!) Their only solution was to send it in for inspection. That's going to cost $AUD49.50 if I don't proceed with the repair.
I'm disappointed. With several cases like this, I'd say it's some kind of manufacturing defect.

I have it too. Guess I'm just going to have to live with it. I replaced the screen on my n7 (2013), it was fairly easy (for my first time doing something like that). This one looks a little harder, and more expensive. If it gets too bad I'm going to break down and do it. Not too many good tablets out there right now. This one isn't bad with custom ROM on it. Not great, but not bad.

This is an old thread but my Nexus 9 has started developing bubbles over the last couple of months, and in the last couple of weeks I've gone from one to three in the top RH corner (just above the battery symbol) and another small one a bit over to the left. Has anyone tried any fixes like applying heat/pressure or anything? I've just gotten to the point where I'm relatively happy with its performance and still can't find a worthy replacement, so I'd like to keep it going for as long as possible.
I got mine repaired, it was still under warranty. But is came back after a year or so.... Never tried to fix it again after that.
same here, 2 bubbles growing...
I just ignore it as it didnt effect the display...
Update:
I found out that the bubbles will move from time to time.
Im assuming that there a bubble trap between digitizer and lcd...

seems i am late to the party ... mine was in the tip right corner and now its moved an inch left ...and i see 2 new ones on the edge ... a manufacturing defect ... seems the corners of the nexus screen by design are such that its sucking in air and the glue closes in from behind forming a bubble ... and further stress on the screen (like tucking the nexus 9 in between clothes for instance while travelling) seem to trigger this movement which in air in between the screen and digitizer bonding ...

There's no solution to fix it other than replacing the LCD panel....
I have a couple of the Nexus 9 tablets and almost all of them have what looks like bubbles around the screen. However these are not bubbles. The optically clear adhesive that the manufacturer used on these tablets shrinks over time. What you're seeing is actually vacuum pockets. There is no air in these "bubbles" at all. Although disturbing, they are just cosmetic and should not affect the operation of the tablet.

Help replacing busted LG G5 surface mount capacitors (GPS ant.)

Hello everybody,
As many others, I have experienced problems with GPS reception on my LG G5. Unfortunately, while trying to fit a spring to make a better contact between the motherboard and the aluminum chassis, I busted the capacitors at the far left of the motherboard.
Since I'm a new user, I cannot yet post pictures, but I'll try and give you a description:
Both are SMC capacitors, oriented perpendicularly to one another next to a screw hole at the far top left part of the motherboard.
The one closest to the screw hole seems related to LTE/4G reception and managed to resolder it, but the other one is lost.
Could someone direct me to the correct capacitor values so I can replace them? I have two motherboards that could be used as parts donors (S4 mini and LG G4), but I'd rather not make any blind substitutions based only on appearance.
Any help will be much appreciated!
As soon as I get image link privileges, I will post a much more descriptive pict.
You're sure it's a capacitor? I saw some reworking videos, going by size can work.
I think they are capacitors

For what I've seen, black SMC components tend to be resistors, while beige ones tend to be capacitors.
The picts available online are not of sufficient resolution to tell if both components have the same value.
Here's an idea! Could you or someone else upload a more detailed pict on this thread? That way I can be more certain and make a better educated guess.
TIA.
Is it the two caps that sit side-by-side which are connected to the contact pad for the bottom module?

I'll try to make a description as accurate as possible:
Place the phone screen down. After removing the aluminium back cover, you'll see an inverted-L shaped motherboard. The screen connector should be at your left, and the battery connector to your right.
If you keep moving up, there is a screw hole next to a silver spongy pad. Then, at the top you will see two capacitors at the edge of the motherboard.
Topmost is vertical, while the one below and slightly to the right is horizontal.
There are also two pairs of unused soldering contacts.

Apologies for my lousy ascii art. It really sucks not being able to upload a pict.
Anyway! Here, "U" and "C" represent the capacitors, while the "°" thingies represent the soldering pads.
I wouldn't just go by size. I'd get a multimeter with capacitance reading and check another board for the in-circuit capacitance (and resistance). Compare those with the capacitance and resistance across the pads to determine what values should be there...

It's a good idea. However, said components are lost :/
most of the time, if you physically tear components off like that, it tears the solder pads off with it...

I don't know if this helps, but when trying to fix the common GPS issues I broke the contact on the bottom side of the motherboard and figured out that that came from the resistor (or capacitor) marked in your image as "1", I soldered a copper wire from the top side of that resistor and made contact to the antena on the chassis and that worked great. If that was a capacitor I think it won't work.

capacitor 1 = 135 pF
capacitor 2= 50 pF ? (i check it one way, its 47 pF, then i flip the polarity and its 62 pF)
These are in-circuit numbers. You will have to test your pads to determine if any capacitance is throwing my numbers off. Also, my test leads broke, so I had to use regular test leads that are longer, so there may be some variance there too, but it shouldnt be more than a few pF off
This is the best picture i could take with my phone (g5). both capacitors do look the same size physically, but its hard to tell. they're incredibly small, good luck. https://imgur.com/YvMjrQA

Ah!!! This is a great headstart! I will start looking for similar component values in the donor motherboards while still mounted. It is a bit odd you got different capacitance values depending upon polarity. They look ceramic-made, so polarity shouldn't be an issue.
Will report back ASAP with hopefully positive results.
Many many thanks!

i wouldnt think about it too much. pF is an incredibly small capacitance measurement. Im surprised my basic tenma meter even showed steady values.
I think I found the original components
Apologies for not getting back sooner. Work :/

I also managed to take a pict from the place where they are missing on the motherboard:
(Image rotated to the same angle from the pict by @resinis)
Using my original picture as a reference and if my observations are correct, component #1 is for GPS, while #2 is for LTE/UMTS/etc.
Apparently, solder pads are intact. Now I will need a microscope and micro tweezers to properly manipulate both components in place.
It's also quite a relief now being able to post pictures!
Success!!! And final thoughts
Well, after some time I can happily announce the repairs were complete and the phone is back in service.
I couldn't determine the values for each capacitor, so I had a 50/50 chance of getting them right so I went ahead and installed them.
4G reception is back to normal, while GPS is so-so-ish, but at least not erratic anymore.
Why did LG go with such a lousy arrangement for the inverted-F GPS antenna? A simple spring would have been great to make ground contact with the phone backplane.
While I like this phone in general, I am not happy at LG. After pretty bad battery experiences with the G4, and now the GPS issue with the G5, I think my next device might be a Xiaomi or something else. We shall see.
Many many thanks to everyone on here that helped me complete this quest!
